Old restaurant with aunties as waiter but surprisingly they can talk English even with simple words but we can understand her instructions If you don’t like tempura that mix with the sauce, you should go with set menu, yes it mode expensive but you can get more tempura in original taste, the set came with soup and special pickles with shrimp on it. But if you with your friends or family you can try every kind of tempura with sauce (tendon) or without sauce. And we came on Monday at 6 pm there no queuing.

This is from the recommendation list from google top list of Asakusa. We came here after shopping at the kitchen street. Basically it’s only straight street back and passed the Tsukuba express station and felt like back into edo-time zone with cobblestone pavement. It’s also very close to sensoji temple. When we were inside there was only one table so we could sit comfortably It was close to 6 pm. We ordered one prawn kisu fish and fried seafood pancake and another two prawns with fried seafood pancake. I loved sesame oil fried tempura. Had similar dish from Nara trip but never met the same flavor again. Although a lot of stores claim it used goma or sesame oil but maybe personal reasons I couldn’t taste it. Anyway I have a high expectation of this store. And the flavor didn’t fail me. I loved it has strong soy sauce or store secret sauce? I could taste there were some small shrimps inside the pancakes. They were not crispy type but on the soggy side which I really didn’t mind. The matcha that came with the tempura bowl was fantastic. Full of matcha flavor. I also liked the building which had the edo period charm.

Finally dined here to mark my 12th JP year. This was one of the queues and tourist traps of Asakusa which I’ve tried to avoid. It sure took me long and I now understand why this place still attracts old timers. Its has a charm and the food is incredible generous for the value. The soup was beautifully light, clean and warmed the soul. The rice was overwhelming with prawns, big and small, even the salad . Sure it isn’t light poofy and fancy like the modern day tendons, yet it’s equally delightful, and perfectly balance in taste. Definitely warrants re-visits.

We managed to get a table before the lunch crowd but service was non-existent when it was time to place our order. The tendon came lukewarm and soggy and it was an expensive lunch which was not worth the time and stomach space. Its extremely overrated and a tourist trap.

Google
"Average but good for the money" It's not your typical Japanese tempura that you expected but the flavor is the same. The only thing that can not improve is the tempura is a bit soaky with sauce but overall good. The waiting time is +/- 30 mins at lunch.

Their homemade sauce is their signature dish, and I go for it every time I’m in the area.

I have enjoyed fish tempura with green tea. The sign on the street is in Japanese, easily translated with Google Lens. They have an English menu if you need it.

Not worth the wait or price. Despite being a historic tempura restaurant, the food was disappointing. The tendon was overly greasy and soggy, lacking the crispy texture you'd expect from good tempura. The sauce was mediocre at best. Waited 30 minutes in line for underwhelming food. There are better tempura options elsewhere.

Yelp
Quaint little restaurant that specializes in tempura dishes located near Senso-ji temple. Very efficient customer service. The prawn tempura was so good though I'm not fond of the raw tuna with miso I ordered.

Yelp
Small shop outside of the temple so you'll likely need to wait in a queue. We went around lunch time and we didn't have to wait that long at around ~20 mins. This shop surprised me by being much larger than expected since they have an upstairs portion. They have an English menu in addition to a Japanese menu so it's easy to order. The menu is also fairly simple with Tempura sets and Tendon-Style Tempura. We did Set A and Set B of the Tendon Style Tempura. The sets come with rice, soup, pickles, and the tempura. TBH it's not the best tempura I've had. It's more on the heavy and greasy side so although I did finish it was getting hard to eat near the end. The sets come with a mixture of prawns, fish, and vegetables. The batter is tasty and they include a sauce they apply on the tempura/rice before serving. It's a bit pricey in my opinion averaging about $27 per set and they don't allow you to share so each person has to order their own item and they only allow cash payments.

Yelp
There is an English menu online! We ordered the tempura, obviously - specifically Tendon 1. It came with a side of preserved veggies and a pot of green tea. We also got a bowl of soy-soaked rice with one each of prawn, kisu fish, and mixed tempura. It was pretty damn good. Note that this is the greasy style that is heavy and is supposed to be consumed with rice. There are apparently two styles of tempura. Later, we do hit up Tempura Tsunahachi in Shinjuku if you're into the airy type of tempura (also severely overpriced). From my research, it seemed that most restaurants, high end or casual, now serve the airy type of tempura. This could explain why the line in front of Daikokuya is so long! We got there at a pretty lucky time so only waited for around 15-30m, otherwise I'd dock a star for the wait!

Yelp
Wow! I love it! Ordered two prawns and one mixed tempura. The amount was just perfect for one perfect. Tempura are soggy but the sauce they put in the rice and tempura intervened perfectly. If you're from the states you would know what I meant when it's usual to think tempura is crispy and crunchy. Nope, not this place but it's better then any tempura I ever had.

Yelp
My shiatsu masseuse in HNL recommended this place and said that they use an oil which wouldn't cause stomach upset. The tempura set was so satisfying that my husband and I returned the next day for a second time. We went before the dinner crowd and after the lunch crowd. The clear soup was tasty, tempura was jumbo, wait staff was quick and efficient. Would highly recommend this establishment. Bring cash since no credit card accepted. There was no signs in English so you will have to notate the picture and find it on the corner near the Temple.

Yelp
Had some fantastic tempura here. We ordered both the tendon and the tempura, and we weren't starving particularly so finishing was actually a little difficult. The portions are generous, especially the tendon with rice. I think either is great to fill you up. I liked the tendon bowl flavors more but the tempura set was better in terms of textures. The prawns are huge and delicious. Service is fast and very kind, they have English menus available too. It feels slightly traditional but not as much as some other places in the area, but that's fine with me. The price was reasonable too but I wish they had smaller sets for a little less. Great place!

Yelp
This isn't everyone's cup of tea, but if you like thickly battered, limited crunch tempura, then you'll like this tendon-style tempura. The batter is definitely flavorful and when paired with the fresh large prawn and slightly sweet soy sauce glistened rice, a tasty combo. You can't help but feel a little heavy after eating this style of cooking, but the hot green tea helps with digestion. I recommend either getting their special which comes with prawn, fish cake and a piece of vegetable or going for the four prawn dish. The line may look long, but it moves quickly. There are two floors of seating.

Yelp
A good tempura should be crunchy...this is soggy and greasy. Don't believe the 5 star reviews. A tourist trap for sure

Yelp
Short wait when we arrived for lunch. Was seated upstairs and had to take shoes off since we had to sit on the tatami mats. Service fast. Not a fan of Ebi Tendon but tried it since this restaurant was recommended in guidebooks. It was ok. I prefer my tempura crispy but bec of the sauce it made it soggy. Long line outside restaurant once we were done eating.

Yelp
Tempura cooked in sesame oil is their specialty. The batter is soft and falls off easily.

Yelp
I ordered from another Thai place in the neighborhood and my sister did pick up from Corthaiyou. We did a taste test of the same dishes and WOW did corthaiyou win with flying colors. And it won over most Thai places I have ever been. PLEASE PLEASE start delivering ASAP!

Yelp
I was wandering around Asakusa when I noticed a line wrapped around the corner for this place. A local told me that this was a famous tempura place. I was seated quickly upstairs in the tatami mat only area. The hostesses and waitresses are all very kind and gracious. I was given an English menu which was very helpful. Note that if you are looking for a sign in English on the outside, you will not find one. I ordered a special that included a variety of seafood ten-don, appetizer of crab meat and pickled vedge, and clear soup. Food was good but took some time to arrive (45 min). As I write this, the patrons at the table across from mine are nodding off waiting for their food to arrive. This is definitely not a place to come in a rush. The pickled items were all very delicious, especially the appetizer which had radish pickled in a wasabi vinegar. The ten-don was slightly soggy but had good flavor. Overall the experience was fun and a taste of the traditional.
