Most coffee shops are open before 7:30 AM. Quite a few are up and running by 6:30 AM. But 5:30 AM? Well your caffeine choices are mostly limited to Starbucks, Denny's and doughnut shops that sell coffee unfortunately. Thankfully The Daily Grind is also an option!
You can find them on the corner of De La Vina and Mission. Their second location is along the same street a mile away, be sure to set your GPS correctly. There's a decent amount of spots available in the parking lot. Plenty of seating inside and out as well. The decor is interesting, with several vintage license plates and bicycles along the walls and ceilings.
They serve espressos, iced blended coffees, non-fat smoothies, juices, and a few non-caffeinated beverages. Coffee refills are $1.45, same day only. Beans are also available for purchase. Breakfast starts at 6:30 AM. The food menu consists of burritos, bagels, sandwiches, salads, and avocado toast.
The lox bagel is highly customizable; they have over a dozen bagels to choose from. For a coffee shop to offer that much variety, that's pretty impressive to me. I don't even think Panera carries that many options. You can also get ciabatta, croissant, sourdough, and wheat bread instead of a bagel. Cream cheese, tomato slices, onion, avocado and capers are included. Ingredients can be removed or moved to the side if you prefer. Some ingredients could be more fresh, the slices of avocado had some browning already. Overall everything went well together. The everything bagel was flavorful, and the salmon was delicately salty and buttery. My vanilla latte was smooth and creamy.
Good place to go for early-risers!
