10 Japanese cafés to visit in Singapore - SilverKris

"This unassuming Rangoon Road café offers Japanese‑Western fusion with a focus on sustainability and nutritious eating; the menu includes veggie‑friendly bowls, brunch bites like chilli soft shell crab with brioche, pasta, rice and fresh cut bowls, a variety of teas and cooling cold silky soy puddings." - Syahirah Mazlan & Joy Fang

Walked in by chance for lunch as I was waiting for my queue number to be up at a cafe nearby, and I had a very pleasant and surprising experience! Ordered a chirashi bowl and the tamago sando and both were really yummy and well balanced! For one, I was surprised by the amount of sashimi provided - it was fairly generous and more than I expected for the price. I also like the attention to detail; the rice was flavoured and moist which is something that I don't take for granted. A lot of places where I've had chirashi focus a lot on the sashimi but not the rice, leaving the rice dry and cold. But it was not the case here. Tamago sando was also really delicious - tamago was well done and pieces of the sando were toasted (again, cannot be taken for granted) and cut to a very convenient size where you can just put into your mouth. Environment was cool and not too noisy. Pleasant experience and look forward to being back!

Quite empty on a weekday lunch. Came at 12pm and we were the 2nd table. Had to order the raw dons as they all look very good. Ordered the spicy barachirashi don ($20) and salmon oyako don ($20) and a side of white truffle fried ($12). The dons were delicious! Very fresh and serving size of quite a lot for females. Salmon slices were very thick and the barachirashi had generous amounts of tako, salmon and maguro. The truffle fries were thick cut fries which were a little dry and hard… would have preferred shoe string fries. However, they didn’t serve any water… and the drinks were a little exp so we didn’t order any. Will be back to try the other dons! Very bear Farrer Park MRT. Within walking distance!

repeat visit! 5th time here. the sakura ebi pasta always hits the spot. tried their curry fries and sashimi bowl today too and both were solid. enjoyed their cold brew though it was slightly sweet; was perfect after letting the ice melt a bit sad that they’re closing down :( thanks for all the good food!!!!!

We visited Daizu on 13th May 8pm and left the place having a poor experience. I was served Salmon Caviar Chirashi lacking ingredients stated. After informing the cashier, she defended saying that the tako is there and mixed into the rice. I had to push aside the ingredients to show that it is missing. About the missing tamago, she called out about menu change for this item and I should have ordered Tamago Chirashi if I wanted tamago or add on as a side. She later said she had just started a few weeks and did not know the menu well. She provided the refund option immediately but that was not what I was calling out. Halfway through the chirashi, I was given a portion of Tako and was told the kitchen had to “make fresh” because they ran out. I advised the cashier not to defend herself and the kitchen staff and to escalate this matter to her supervisor because I see 3 lapses, namely, she does not know the menu well, I was not advised about menu changes at the point of order, kitchen staff changed the dish according ingredients at time of preparation instead of upholding standards. I have a few recommendations for the Daizu to consider: 1. Close early for Tuesday night as I was the 2nd table served there. Moreover, the lean team is not providing expected service and product. 2. It is a supervisory lapse to put a incompetent staff to run the floor alone. A staff that knows the menu and inform the customer of menu changes at the point of order is basic courtesy. 3. Please update the physical and digital menu so that it reflects the expected product. The cashier said the menu has changed for some time. There is a silver lining. The Shiitake Frito was served season well, not oily and crispy, meeting expectations. I hope to return again during the day and try out the Salmon Caviar Chirashi that is seasoned and served in the way that reflects the taste and quality of Daizu as well as receive expected service. We had written in to provide our comment on 14 May and did not hear back till date. Photo for reference 1. Food ordered 2. A portion of tako served half way through 3. Physical menu that needs updating 4. shiitake that was well seasoned

The cafe serves a really good iced latte and is a great spot to relax and catch up over drinks. They also offer a nice variety of bakes and Japanese food options, definitely planning to come back to try them out.

Quiet place without crowd on a weekday. I could sit with my dog at the outdoor sitting. Ambience is very relaxing. We ordered 1. Fish and chips 2. The onsen duck udon 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 3. XL Bara chirashi don. The raw salmon tasted slightly fishy and they added some sweet sauce which without it would taste so much better. The amount of raw fish is generous so I would order it without the sauce the next time 4. Truffle friea 5. Cappucino Total damage: $90 for 3 pax. A great place to eat and chat with friends.

Japanese-themed cafes is increasingly popular in the island and this one did not hold back on that - from name, all the way to the menu. The osaka fries is a fun play on takoyaki, featuring tonkotsu sauce and bonito flakes (they kindly separated the latter per our request). Meanwhile, the philly cheesesteak roll is a bit of a letdown. The filling lacked flavour, and the cheese sauce is like some bland nacho cheese and lacking that anticipated cheesiness. The fried gyozas brought it back up and was quite tasty. Their coffee is quite nice as well.
