In full transparency, Dakota Edinburgh was not my first choice. It wasn't even on my radar. I went to Queensferry on my sabbatical to write and to spend a bit of time getting to see if the magic that I sensed whenever I saw pictures of Scotland was real. My plan was to stay in South Queensferry close to the Firth of Fourth. Because they didn't have occupancy for my full stay, I landed at Dakota Edinburgh. Little did I know, that is where the magic would begin for me. I was greeted by such warmth by Chloe Manderson who was both curious and delighted that I would be there for so long, She took great care to make sure that I felt welcomed and knew about all of the amenities of the hotel which included an amazing restaurant. More about that in a bit. From there I was embraced by the entire staff at reception who seemed to truly be just waiting for me to need something so that they could help. Chloe Eyles who made sure I had a cozy place to hunker down and write for hours. Brooke, Sam, Ruth, and Nicole who looked for me in my favorite writing spaces and kept me hydrated with my favorite writing fuel of water and wine. Since I was attempting (mostly successfully) to spend a certain amount of time a week writing, many of my meals were at the hotel and I was fully on board for that! The food at the hotel restaurant was delicious and the staff to include Callum, Emma, Couper and Yakov who learned my seating preferences and always made sure I had a lovely little corner to sit at and never made me feel rushed or lonely as I meandered through my meals. Kirstin Wisdom and Nathan were like my breakfast besties and fussed over me making sure I ate on the regular and that I knew how to find some kind of daily activity to keep my creative juices flowing. The way Jack and Susan's eyes would light up when I came to the desk to get a table warmed my heart and made me feel so cared for. There was also Craig who kindly shuttled me to the post office and was just so kind and friendly. Also a shout out to the housekeeping crew, especially Jacqui and Zoe who were so respectful of my personal things in the room while at the same time, not just cleaning and freshening up the space but making it feel like they were so happy I was there. On top of all of the impeccable service, the hotel is so lovely with a warm vibe and well arranged space. Its wildly convenient to the airport, Edinburgh and the lovely South Queensferry. Finally, As a single woman, traveling alone I never had one moment where I felt unsafe in this village. Not only did I know the hotel staff kept an eye out for me, the location itself is very walkable to include nighttime hours. I highly recommend without any hesitation. I eagerly look forward to my next visit.
