I've used the Dakota hotels extensively over the last 15 years or so, they were always brilliant. However this time was a little different. The hotel itself was brilliant as usual, the staff were excellent, friendly and very accommodating, but even for all that, this visit left a bitter taste.
We always upgrade to at least an executive room, as these always provided a little bit more, larger beds, more space, a seating area and a complimentary mini bar.
However this time, it's wasn't as much of a mini bar, but rather a meanie bar! The bar is usually well stocked with a selection of drinks and snacks. This time there were only 2 beers, 3 soft drinks and two bottles of water. The snacks were "fruit snacks" and spiced peanuts. Pretty poor, considering my wife doesn't drink beer! We spoke to reception, as we assumed that the bar hadn't been stocked, who informed us that this was part of the cost cutting going on! They kindly swapped out the beers for wine.
Cocktails in Jack's bar and breakfast in the restaurant were both excellent.
