Dal Moro Gallery Hotel, a Design Boutique Hotel Santa Maria degli Angeli, Italy

"Dal Moro Gallery Hotel, one of Umbria's first design hotels, features a roof garden with views of the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, the church where St. Francis found his religious vocation. This modern hotel features great facilities, spacious interiors and contemporary décor. Just step into the lobby to admire the artwork of Rossella Vasta, an internationally renowned artist. Use the Dal Moro's free Wi-Fi or the internet point while you are here. Enjoy a relaxing swim in Dal Moro Gallery Hotel's pool or just sit out on one of the two lovely terraces. Find out about Umbrian culture and art in the hotel's little library. Rooms feature artistic photographs and some have their own hydromassage showers. In the evening you can relax in Dal Moro Gallery's wine bar, accompanied by live piano music. Choose from over 100 different regional and international wines and a large selection of grappa. The restaurant's Umbrian cuisine has been noted in important food guides and uses locally produced organic ingredients. Assisi is a 10-minute drive from Dal Moro Gallery and the hotel is centrally located for visiting Santa Maria degli Angeli's museums, monuments and restaurants. Buses run into Assisi from close by." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

It's a nice gallery hotel. It's bigger than it looks from the outside. The room arrangements or the building layout is confusing esp for the elderly. We were lucky to have a room that has a balcony that's facing the street. They serve good food! Plenty of restaurants nearby if you want to eat out. The Basilica de Santa Maria degli Angeli is a 3- minute walk.

Traveling in a tour group of Rome and Assisi, we stayed for 4 nights at the Assisi Dal Moro Gallery Hotel in mid-October 2025. Based on our stay, our opinion is that the hotel is a sub-standard, a “2 star” hotel. There was no A/C (we were told that they had “winterized” the HVAC, so it was impossible to have A/C), and opening the windows for ventilation allowed street noise and pigeons - yes pigeons - in; there was pigeon poop on the inside ledge. Our room was small (even by European standards), and hallway noise was common. The room carpet was stained, with a slightly larger than tablet-sized TV, and an acrylic desk chair. When we complained to the front desk about the TV size, we were told that all the room TVs were the same size. We knew this was not true, as we had spoken with several other guests. The bathroom was cramped with very limited counter space. It had no facial tissues, and the very small shower had mold in several areas - see photos. Breakfast was limited in food and beverages. Dinner was mediocre with a few exceptions. The front desk manager was cold and brash. There was, however, a young man at the desk who was always very helpful. The hotel was far below what it showed/stated on its public website - e.g., photos vs. reality, no live piano music in the lobby.

Beautiful hotel in an excellent location. Rooms spotless and cleaners did a fab job. Dinners great, however breakfast left a lot to be desired. Head server and pony tailed young lady were extremely rude when we dared ask for hot coffee or water. We were told if everyone came down at the same time water and coffee would be hot, despite breakfast listed as 8.00 -9.00am. These 2 members of staff made breakfast a real challenge for our group and prevented a 5 star review.

This is a fabulous family run hotel a little way away from Assisi. The restaurant is very good. All the team are wonderful people who go out of their way to help. The hotel is in the main (mostly pedestrian) street of Santa Maria degli Angeli - surrounded by restaurants/bars and a stone’s throw from the Basilica. A great base to visit the region by car, but you can use trains and buses as well.

Having stayed in this hotel on a number of occasions I can honestly say you won't get better than this. The staff are super friendly and helpful with nothing too much for them. The whole atmosphere of the place is both very positive and friendly, whilst the accommodation and food cannot be beaten. Many thanks, especially to Francesca, Elisa and the hospitality team, to Erwin and his colleagues in the dining room, and of course to the housekeeping staff. All of them work extremely hard to make a stay there both welcoming comfortable.

The rooms are failrly standard and clean with no drawer space. Comfortable lounge area and spacious dining room. The staff were friendly and helpful and dealt with room problems quickly. I got the impression that they didn't cater much for UK tourists. Getting a cup of tea was hard and the 'tea pots' were used for hot milk. The breakfast was a standard cold buffet, and the evening meal was of a traditional Italian style of 4 or 5 small courses. There was no choice of meals so if you have special dietary requirements, it would be better to raise them on arrival. Check also if there are 'free' bottles of water/wine on the table that they are free. Some rooms had to be accessed via stairs so if you have walking problems just raise it with them. A good base to stay.

This seemed to be a tiny town and was a midway stop for us on the way from Rome to Florence. Our room was a little bit of a challenge to get to - you'd ride an elevator up one floor, then have to drag your bag up a few stairs, then down several hallways. The rooms were very basic, but somewhat dated. There were restaurants nearby that were good, so that was a plus. The breakfast buffet had a lot of options. It was a quiet area.

A very enjoyable time at the Dal Moro. We had a lovely room with balcony. The rooms are friendly, the bathroom modern and pleasant. The staff is very friendly and helpful. One highlight of the hotel is the restaurant with an excellent selection of Umbrian wines and with very friendly and attentive service. Parking is available free of charge in a large parking are under the hotel. The location is right in the centre of Santa Maria degli Angeli, a delightful town with an impressive church. There are ample other restaurants around the hotel. Disrtance to Assisi is only 5km by car. In all a very pleasant hotel. Thank you to all of the staff!
