"Swimming in Salty Tidal Pools Like a smaller scale Bondi Icebergs , there are a handful of whitewashed cement enclosures along the False Bay waterfront that are used as public swimming pools. Even in winter, locals plunge into the icy Atlantic water to start their day. The nicest pool is the pool at Dalebrook, located just before you enter Kalk Bay to your left. It tends to be quieter, has an outdoor shower, a little bit of a sandy beach area, and small bathroom/changing facility."

✅ What people love • Safety & Amenities “Safe environment for families and children… Lifeguards & Beach patrol security is very visible” Concrete pool with hand‑rails, steps & nearby changing rooms • Cleanliness & Maintenance Regular eco‑friendly cleaning (steam pressure, chalk paint) since early 2000s Described as “very clean” and “neat and well looked after” • Scenic charm Stunning ocean‑and‑mountains panoramas provide a surreal experience “Make sure you turn around and look up at the mountains…” • Great for families Shallow areas for kids, plus natural rock pools with marine life at low tide Accessible via subway under the train line; ample parking nearby ⸻ ⚠️ Things to watch out for • Crowding Space is limited; during sunny spells midday gets busy: “gets full very quickly on sunny days… can get quite packed.” • Cold water Ocean water stays chilly (~16 °C / 61 °F), though most swimmers acclimatize quickly • Facilities timing Some note restrooms close early (~5 pm), while temporary solutions aren’t always upkept ⸻ 🎯 Insider Tips • Best time to visit – Early morning visits help avoid crowds and ensure uninterrupted sunlight • Bring aqua‑socks – Glacier‑cold water and rocky seabed mean water shoes make the experience more comfortable • Coffee nearby – After your dip, swing by Dalebrook Café (or the deli/café opposite) for a warming drink ⸻ 🏖 Final Verdict Dalebrook Tidal Pool is a well-maintained, beautiful, and safe spot, ideal for families or anyone chasing a scenic ocean dip. Yes, the water is cold and it can get busy on sunny days—but if you go early, arrive prepared, and embrace the vibe, it’s an unforgettable Cape Town experience.

Weather was a bit overcast but it was quite humid. The pool is great as there is a hand rail and steps. Water was quite nice and cold. It's a bit small for space so it can get quite packed

My first tidal pool ever - couldn’t have had it any better way. I love cold immersion (trained by my mentor friend Wim Hof), and enjoyed the 16 C / 61 F. Beautiful water, waves splashing on the rocks and stone structure and a calm environment. Tranquil and highly recommended!

One year on and enjoyed it again. We visited twice on our holiday Visit 1 was high tide and warm water and visit 2 was low tide and cold water Clean, neat and great fun Was great to find young and old taking a dip at 06H00

Secluded and personal tidal pool off the busy main road with spectacular views. There is a designated parking location but it gets pretty full over weekends. The shark foundation is right opposite the tidal pool entrance for an exciting and educational tour.

Perfect way to start your morning in Cape Town. Follow it up with a coffee right opposite at Dalebrook Cafe (a Chardonnay deli cafe). A must do while in Cape Town to say you really were here!
