One of my favorite diners in Long Beach or the whole South Bay area. It’s very similar to George’s close by in that it is a traditional retro diner modeled after the 1950s. I am working through a list of all diners in LA County and next up on my list was Dale’s. I was excited to try it because it’s the sort of place that I love to visit and looking from the outside I knew that I would enjoy what was on the menu. They don’t have a dedicated parking lot however street parking is extremely easy to find in this part of town so we were able to find a free space right out front. Our server was extremely polite and checked in on us often and everything that we ordered came out very fast. They have a large menu filled with all sorts of great options so it’s the sort of place that would be easy to visit multiple times and be able to get something new each time. Pricing is also very fair, which is probably one of my favorite parts of any diner. For this visit, we started off with a Cinnamon Roll, and I honestly was not a fan of it. It was very dry and tasted more like a muffin than a traditional cinnamon roll. I am pretty sure they bought it in a large batch and was not homemade so I would not recommend ordering it. For my meal I chose the Hamburger Steak and Eggs and thought it was great. The patty had a lot of great seasoning on it, and the eggs were cooked perfectly and the portion size was very generous. Overall I really enjoyed it although I was not a fan of the Cinnamon Roll. I would highly recommend to any fan of diners or to anyone in the Long Beach area searching for a great casual meal.

First time for my wife and me. We loved it! Excellent service by the young lady this morning. Love the 50's throwback vibe, which included very comfortable booth benches! Our breakfast dishes were delicious and we look forward to tasting and testing the rest of their menu!

Fun decor. We had a grilled cheese sandwich, nothing special, yellow cheese and white bread and the corn beef hash, large portion not a lot of flavor. Service was great! Cute area.

UPDATED: Yo! EXPENSIVE JOINT with 20% tip auto added to bill, with no heads up. Extra 20% plus 10%+ tax rate in LB, just makes it not worth it. Plus 50cents for a side of Ranch. Add cheese to a hot dog for $3.50…. The hot dogs are $14. Ok service. Prices are way higher that last time I ate here. Otherwise, Decent food. Today is the last time I will eat here though. Food was impressive. The French Dip was just right. Kids menu was affordable.

I'm a photographer and the Dale's Diner people were so kind and accommodating when I asked to take 15 minutes of engagement photos inside! It's a darling little gem with a full on jukebox (which a sweet older waiter thoughtfully turned on so we could have the colors in our photos), retro booths, and a cozy neighborly atmosphere. If I were local, I would totally come for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Old-fashioned charm in a big city 💛

Google
I was absolutely positively charmed by this place. Dals is a retro 50s themed diners with good old-fashioned American food. Given recent dietary restrictions, this place offered a nice set of breakfast substitutions. I had the chicken fried steak with egg whites and an onion and tomato scramble. All of it was delicious! A notable standout was the biscuits and gravy. We could not stop raving about them. My partner had the bf burrito; she claims it one of the best bf burritos she’s ever had. Overall, I’d return. Also, I like their propensity to purchase American items such as the Splenda, Tabasco, and ketchup. Keep up the good work crew!

Every municipality needs a clean but very-slightly-ratty retro Americana diner. This is the one for the Long Beach airport area. You can sit at the Formica counter with its boomerang-pattern top and order any number of greasy spoon standards... and while things like "very-slightly-ratty" and "greasy spoon" sound bad, these are actually positives in a good diner experience. If it's too spotlessly maintained, it's a fast food gimmick. Dale's is certainly not gimmicky. It knows what it wants to be and leans right into it without shame. I had "The Works"--chili, cheese, and onion over hash browns--and while the sodium and fat knocked a week off my life that's _exactly_ how it's supposed to be. Tasty meaty chili, crispy thin hash-brown potatoes, vibrant onions and cheddar. True comfort food.

Yelp
Old school diner with lots of good foods. This is my go to for pastrami sandwiches and patty melts. This place always serves big sandwiches with lots of meats. Their fries and chili is always good too. If you are with a group, I suggest one get fries and one get chili as sides so you guys can share chili fries! :) The team members are also very friendly and attentive. Inside is also pretty small so you gotta plan ahead and not come during rush hour. Parking can also a bit challenging but there are plenty of you come during off hours.

Yelp
9/5/24 Can't decide? Go to Dale's!!!! So freaking good we did & it totally hit the spot Hubby said he wasn't famished so it's my choice. I wanted somewhere that's close by, not loud (or screaming & running rug rats everywhere (hahaha), with unassumingly good food & not too trendy .... This place has all the check boxes. It's our go to classic diner (next to The Village Grill in Claremont). No muss, no fuss. When we got here, it's practically empty with just couple of patrons dining. 50's music coming through the speakers-didn't mind it at all. I was just telling Hubby that I want to experience sitting at the counter to order a good cup of coffee & a slice of warm apple or cherry pie. Today is not the day to sit at the counter (lol). I ordered a burger (medium rare, & Hubby ordered a pastrami sandwich & for me a regular burger on a bun, grilled onions, pickles, lettuce tomato. My combo is accompanied by fries. So happy they still serve Coca Cola products-like I said, classic! Not long after my salad arrived, nothing special but the balsamic vinaigrette was amazing fresh & tangy-just the way I like it, even the croutons were tasty. Right on time, our order was up. Oh my Gosh!! The fries, the fries-- both Hubby & I immensely enjoyed the crispy outer layer, piping hot. These were the perfect fries! He ate all of his before he started on his pastrami. I almost finished mine but had to spot coz I only got to eat barely half of my burger. The beef patty was juicy, tender & bursting with flavor. All the veggies were fresh & the onions were grilled as requested. It was just so tasty & delicious! Hubby really loved his pastrami & he appreciated the soft bread it was served in. I tasted it & It was on point! A tad salty for my taste but I am glad he enjoyed it. He loves pastrami & he says it's better than The Hat (prior to this, he said so far The Hat is top fog on the pastrami front). Those fries, we would probably come back just for the fries hahaha. Our server, Karrie was very friendly, attentive & checked on us many times to ensure our dining experience was enjoyable. Great choice!

Yelp
I was a first timer at dales Decided to finally give this place a try. they have a great amount of private parking up close (they do share it with other businesses) As soon as I walked in it was extremely busy but a waitress came up and told us a booth just opened and she would clean it right away for us. She wasn't kidding. she was extremely fast but she was really thorough with cleaning the booth and the table. Breakfast is served until 2 pm I believe on the weekend, so we had to get some of their loaded country potatoes/ hash browns, and then ordered lunch items. (Bacon cheeseburger and a French dip) The only two things I didn't like were the potato salad, I did have to send that back. They were really nice about it and took it off my bill. And since we ordered two sandwiches with fries and onion rings I don't think they should have charged us for a side of ranch. I think one side of dipping sauce should come with your meal. (Only two downsides) The banana split was out of this world. They had all the classic diner food and dessert. After we ordered the banana split one of the waitresses came to double check if anyone has peanut allergies. So it's always great when staff takes this serious. Everyone in here was extremely friendly, they have very large portions and they also offered a military discount. I would 1000 percent be back

Yelp
I love the vibe of this restaurant, it's like traveling back to the 50s. The waiter was also very friendly. There is plenty of seating available inside. Honestly, I came here because I just finished watching The Menu and was craving a burger. I was about to order a Dale's Combo, but it was a hamburger. I wanted a cheeseburger so I ordered one with grilled onions, tomato, and fries. It took only 5 minutes for my food to arrive. The fries are steak cut so they are a bit thick. The fries came out hot. This was a very satisfying classic burger. There is a lot of lettuce and it provides a nice crunch. The onions blended in seamlessly with the burger. Everything just works. It was pretty sizeable too - was full before even finishing my fries. The only piece of criticism I have is that the burger drips a ton.

Joshua ..

Yelp
I've been coming here for years but haven't been in a couple months, service was great and so was the food, I would've given 5 stars but just like everywhere else this place has become expensive, the burgers don't come with fries anymore so there's an extra charge, extra charge for onions and jalapeños, two Omelettes, 1 cheeseburger and fries, 3 cokes and an extra side of toast $83

Alicia L.

Yelp
This is a cute diner so I wanted to stop by and try it out. I got the chili cheese fries for $13.95 and the size for the price was NOT it. The taste wasn't up to par either. Chili cheese fries are my favorite and these were disappointing. The Cajun burger was pretty good in taste but... $14.95 for ONE burger, no sides included, is a bit much. $4.25 to add some fries? No thanks. All in all I would probably give this under a 3 but rounding up.

Rosa E.

Yelp
Food was delicious! The strawberry shortcake was amazing!!! The service was great and quick! The place is a little older but it fits the vibe of a diner and it was cute. The parking is a little tight.

Donna B.

Yelp
I drive by this diner all the time. Tonight we decided to go for dinner. I will say that the service was absolutely amazing. Everyone that served our table was very friendly and welcomed us as first timers. I had the Turkey burger. All burgers are served a La cart. A side of French fries is priced less than $3. My daughter had the French toast. We both had hot chocolate ( which was really good). We will definitely be going back. Parking- I parked on the street in front of the diner. For a Friday night I was surprised that parking was available.

Jhenevieve C.

Yelp
Favorite place for lunch and milkshakes. Prices are slightly above average diner food but the portions and quality make it worth it. Milkshakes are handmade and they even give you some extra in the metal cup. The servers are attentive and service isn't bad at all. Depending on the timing, it can either be dead quiet or busy during a rush. But I love coming here with family and enjoying the 50s diner vibe.

Brittany S.

Yelp
Cute 50s style diner Friendly staff Classic food Good portions Good simple diner Great for family Fun decor

Daniel V.

Yelp
Came here for the first time with my kids. Love the experience and service was great. We all order current type of burgers and they were all great. The union rings and fried zucchini are ok, we can tell the oil used to friend them was a bit old and you can taste it, however we did come at the end of the day and that could be the reason. Nevertheless, the food, service and experience was great. I will be coming back in the future.

Dale P.

Yelp
I took my mother to have evening rations at Dale's Diner the evening of Friday the eighth of August. There was some waiting before orders were taken. Once orders were taken service was quicker. There was only one all gender washroom. I'm glad the washroom had paper towels so I could shut the faucet off and open the door with the paper towel for sanitary purposes. That said only one washroom for one person is really not adequate facilities if someone really has to "go" bad. I had the Friday burger combo special. Salad was very good. Burger was quite good. French Fries were fair. Chocolate milkshake was excellent. My mother thought that the bread for her sliders was too doughy. No single fault warrants deducting a full point. However the fault I mentioned together result in a deduction of one point. If I gave a letter grade to this establishment like I would in school if I was a teacher Dales Diner would earn a strong "B" maybe even a "B+".

Chris S.

Yelp
Had the pleasure of trying Dales Diner a few days ago. I live close by and decided why not try a new diner spot today. Inside the diner transports you back in time, with nostalgic decorations encapsulating an ideal American diner from the past. The workers are friendly and make conversation. I was in the mood for some breakfast so I grabbed chocolate chip pancakes with egg and sausage. The egg and sausage were average, but still good. The chocolate chip pancakes were really good and filling. For the price I did find it to be a bit high considering the egg and sausage portion and quality, however it's still a solid diner spot.

Machele M.

Yelp
We visited this place while attending a game at the Veterans Stadium. Parking can be tricky, but it is well worth the stop. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Great pricing that won't break the bank. I had a Tuna Salad Sandwich and fries. If you don't stop here, you don't know what you're missing.

Carrie J.

Yelp
Nice place, good service, good food, good coffee, good ambiance. Super busy! But they are fast.. we were seated right away . The staff were friendly and welcoming. Nice homemade type of breakfast.. really good pancakes. 8 out of 10

Chris P.

Yelp
We have been to Dales quite a few times, and every time we have received great service! Most recently our waitress was Amaris, she was friendly and very helpful! Very nice staff work here and it's a very pleasant place to eat. We recommend!! The breakfasts, cheeseburgers and shakes are very good. This is a very nice, casual and friendly place.

Yelp
"Sunday, Monday, hungry days. Tuesday, Wednesday, hungry days. Thursday, Friday, hungry days. Saturday, let's eat, okay? Breakfast, all day for you." - parody of theme to "Happy Days" Dale's Diner is a 50's themed diner, complete with jukebox & milkshakes. Unlike Ruby's Diner, which is more an imposter theme park diner, Dale's Diner is the real deal. A diner which feels lived in, because it is. I attended an event at Dale's, almost a decade ago, but haven't been back, since. After visiting Stein Fillers, I was originally planning to hit up Village Road Pizzeria, but some greasy spoon action sounded more enticing (and better bang for the buck) than a few slices & a pint. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=9y_V79y0J8PeHB1_IXsILg&userid=xsT4KZTu_KnOVavtuXn4RA Perusing Dale's assortment of omelette's, named after popular 50's cars, instead, I found my appetite set on chicken-fried steak & eggs. Chicken-fried steak & eggs- https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=dnV-2-hvb3iH8x6YRuYDlA&userid=xsT4KZTu_KnOVavtuXn4RA A big, battered & fried steak, smothered under a mountain of country gravy. Complete w/ 2 eggs, toast & my choice of side - Southwestern hashbrowns. Tummy stuffing! Portions aren't skimped, here. Everything was good & just as expected. The highlight were the Southwestern hashbrowns. The reason I didn't choose an omelette, the SW hashbrowns had bell peppers, onions & other accoutrement that I would've had in an omelette. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=_-00PhYKv4oHkftciP9gUQ&userid=xsT4KZTu_KnOVavtuXn4RA Service was excellent. The young women were friendly & quick with service. Seating is via booths & bar seating. Parking lanes are on Norse Way, with lots behind some of the businesses. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=K9NW0Ux4N-8gLBr5Cxk4Zg&userid=xsT4KZTu_KnOVavtuXn4RA Dale's Diner is a throwback of Americana, and a fine option to choose when searching for meal. I left full & satisfied. Nothing fancy, and that's fine by me.

Yelp
Clean, quaint diner with easy, free parking.. Staff friendly, knowledgeable of menu, efficient with Delilah the one server on Sunday at 6pm and a man who served and cleaned up juggling business smoothly. Decor is nostalgic with old time signs, booths, tables, counter service. Menu offers full range of breakfast all day, soup, salad, hot / cold sandwiches, range of burgers including vegetarian, pies, shakes, malts, floats, ice creams for all tastes and all are large portions. We were party of 8 from seniors, parents and children. Everyone enjoyed tuna melts, cheeseburgers, club sandwich, mac cheese, hot dogs, fries, onion rings, ice cream, milk shakes, Coke, strawberry lemonade had pieces of sweet fruit. Everything was fresh - meats, lettuce, tomatoes, bread / buns lightly toasted, relish, condiments all clean and fresh tasting. Even the Coke was icy cold and bubbling fresh. Delilah, the one server on a busy Sunday evening did well greeting customers, taking orders, serving food quickly and managing a dozen tables within an hour. We look forward to returning regularly, Thank you, Delilah and helper!

Yelp
I was out in socal for a trip and was craving a local diner and after some search I found Dales. They have a nice old school 50s retro vibe to it. As far as parking the street is pretty big but I had to park down near the Jack in the box. The inside is super retro and I loved their decor it takes you back in time. The waiters were super nice and kept checking in on us. I got a coffee with a Bacon N eggs combo. The coffee was delicious. I also got a side of chili cheese fries with their home made chili. It's yummy but the portions are huge. The sweet potato fries were to die for. I only took a star off because the place wasn't that busy but they still took a longer than normal wait. I'd definitely be back next time I'm in down. I didn't try the burger but I seen one and it looked amazing.

Makayla R.

Yelp
Cute diner with reasonable pricing. Diner itself is really pretty and gives old vibes. Service was quick. Pancakes were okay, 8/10!

Darlene M.

Yelp
Friendly service and consistently good food. I have been going to Dale's for over 20 years and I have never been disappointed.

Brandon F.

Yelp
I have seen this place as I have passed by it many times. We deco to give it a try. We had to wait for a table. After being seated it took a few minutes to get someone to serve us. The food was great just how I thought it will be like an old school diner. The ambience fits well for the restaurant. I recommend this if you like comfort food. The shake was also great.

Jairo V.

Yelp
Second time here, second time getting the Country fried steak and eggs breakfast. So good! My son loved the classic feeling of the environment. And they nicely offered coffee to go.

Diana M.

Yelp
A good diner with a nice diner breakfast. Oldies but goodies atmosphere. Service was good.

Mason A.

Yelp
I really love the food, it tasted amazing. The service was very nice. The ambiance looked very traditional and fancy.

Diego P.

Yelp
Banana pancakes were really good! Great staff, decor and ambiance. Nice spot for a quick breakfast or lunch!

Rangie T.

Yelp
A classic diner feel with a variety of breakfast items, burgers, Dale's famous chili, and dinner options but not served until 3:00pm. My wife and I came for breakfast and I was craving steak and eggs but their only choice is a small 7oz sirloin. For the price I can get a larger portion elsewhere. My wife ordered pork chops and eggs. Pork chops were a bit on the thin side. I got the meat lover's omelette which had a name for it but I forgot. It was a decent sized portion. The food tasted well. The service was excellent. Well attended to and my coffee was always hot and topped off. I'd like to come and try their burgers next time.

Laura O.

Yelp
This place is sooooo good! Really nice service, really cute 50s style diner. They are fast and the food is soooo good, I get their ham and eggs and I've tried their pancakes and waffles and both are BOMB! Food tastes really fresh too. Definitely gonna be a favorite breakfast spot for me.

Robert P.

Yelp
The ambiance is what you should expect in an olde time diner--when you're "lost in the the 50's." The service was exceptional: we were not the only patrons, but we were treated like we were. They even adjusted the air conditioning and the sound system! Of course we came for the food. It was delicious ( tuna melt with zucchini fries; also the Salisbury steak and mashed potatoes). We will be back!

Jessica P.

Yelp
This place had friendly and attentive service but the food was okay. It was probably my fault ordering the tuna melt because it's usually a hit or mess depending on the restaurant. I wouldn't order it again because it was lacking something. I added red onions which in my opinion helped it a lot. The fries were probably my favorite because of how fresh and crisp they were. I would come back to try something else from the menu that also comes with a side of fries.

Ruben T.

Yelp
It was a good diner food was good and the vibe was relaxed nothing crazy worth a visit to see the decor and take a picture

Jay L.

Yelp
Winter was our waitress Her attention to detail was on point Ordered breakfast and lunch Chorizo and eggs Cheeseburger and French fries They were absolutely delicious The decorations and signage in Dale's Diner Are cool and retro

Connie B.

Yelp
Great burgers and great service from Kat! Thank you! Bacon Best Burgers in Long Beach!

Paul D.

Yelp
I had the Bacon Cheeseburger with double patties. The bestest greatest burger I have ever had!

Joyce B.

Yelp
The place has that nostalgic ambiance of a 50's diner. Love the comfort food, friendly service & their menu has quite a variety of entree Americana to choose from, whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner! I've been coming here for over twenty years & have never been disappointed!

Jerome H.

Yelp
It's been a long time since our last visit to Dale's. I can only tell you I now recall how tasty their burgers taste are. Both food and service were excellent. It was a delightful experience! Please, make the time to visit this restaurant. Your visit should be most enjoyable.

Jaydee D.

Yelp
Dale's Diner definitely has a classic 1950s diner vibe! Maybe a good place for a late date night with milk shakes and hot french fries, but I digress. We did not order that whatsoever. My sister Jennifer recommended it to my mom so why not? The most impressive part of my meal was the cinnamon buns served hot and fresh from the oven. Lots of cinnamon and butter to it! And NOT all too sweet. It had a bit of glaze on top, just the way I like it. I ordered the corned beef hash with 2 scrambled eggs and extra crispy hash browns. All were delicious but why do they always serve it with less corned beef? It happens not only to this diner but other places which hopefully someone recommends a better breakfast joint for me. For $16.99, which I think was mighty steep, and I really thought the cinnamon bun (extra 2.99) was a part of that price- it doesn't. Sad face. Proportions were just right for someone not super hungry. My mom seemed to enjoy her meal. However, I wasn't pleased with my dad's (forgot which kind) omelette. It was flat , not fluffy with cheddar cheese on top, and I can taste a bit of the bacon. All I heard from them was, "the sourdough is good." They tried the gavina coffee both decaf and regular and disappointed thAt it was not hot. The server did not check up on us to see if we needed anything else and luckily the busboy who was an older gentleman knew exactly whAt you need, and offered my parents fresh hot cup of coffee and without asking he even provided them spoons. I take away a point or 2 when I have never tried a place before, and when the service is mediocre. The booths can probably fit 4 people comfortably. Not sure If I would return?! Maybe just order a cinnamon bun to go.

Kameron S.

Yelp
This place is my favorite go to breakfast restaurant! The staff here is consistent and the chef's never disappoint. As a kid I would demolish the Oreo pancakes, but as an adult I love their omelettes because they are so filling and the perfect size. The inside decor has maintained the old timey diner vibe for so many years! 10/10 love dales diner

Kris H.

Yelp
Great service. Everyone is super friendly. The food has good flavor and quality. Coffee is not too strong and not too weak, just right. Very enjoyable atmosphere. Great for people watching

Deanne R.

Yelp
Excellent customer friendly service, food is always good. We like to come for breakfast and lunch.

Wendy B J.

Yelp
Friendly staff and good food! Love the 50's decor. Tin signs and seating that resembles cars from the 50's.

Jay M.

Yelp
When we are in town, we always look forward to enjoying a meal at Dale's Diner. Dale's has a fun retro vibe, food is always delicious, and service usually Outstanding...until today. We stopped in just before noon and the Friday lunch crowd had yet to arrive. Three servers were on duty, we were seated immediately, our orders placed, and our two tasty meals arrived in no time. What could go wrong? Well...we waited and waited for coffee refills, even to the point of my hubby holding up his coffee cup at shoulder level. Never did get those second cups of coffee. So, time to pay our bill...we waited...and waited..no check arrived. Hubby had his wallet out, in hand. I watched as the servers cleared several tables, (there were a number of available tables), serve plates, replace salt shakers, walk by our booth a number of times without making eye contact. I finally called out to one of the servers as she walked by us, saying we were waiting for our bill. No apology for our wait, though she had walked by us at least 5 separate times. And that was just her. Two other servers ignored us as well. Is this the "being invisible" once you're considered to be a "Senior"?? Again, we aren't "regulars" in that we live in the area full time, but we do have a home nearby, and when in town, always stop in at Dale's Diner for a favorite meal. Unfortunately, today was the worst service we've ever had at Dale's.

Janet M.

Yelp
Excellent quick service! Portions are perfect and fresh ingredients. Love the patty and eggs, not too salty. I would recommend .

Charlyann M.

Yelp
My dad is a regular here. He comes mainly for the jukebox. I used to come here regularly. But, the spray they use to clean the tables smelled so strong, my burger tasted like soap! There booths are also very tight. Too close to the tables. I appreciate the style and the music, but that is about it.

Dena R.

Yelp
Dales diner is such a cute and fun place to eat! It looks like a diner straight out of the 1950's from the retro decor to the servers cute uniforms. They even have a jukebox that plays great 1950's music. The girls working there are super friendly and attentive. The food is delicious (the Patty Melt or The Caddy omelette are my favs!) and they give large portions. You can't leave without getting a milkshake or malt they are yummy! Highly recommend Dale's Diner the next time you want delicious food, a fun atmosphere, and great customer service!

Gen F.

Yelp
Came for brunch with my parents and in laws. Everything was delicious and everyone was a huge fan of the french toast! Service was very friendly. We will definitely be back.
