Essential dining when in Porto. I thought I knew what good food tasted like until I ate here. I thought I knew how to cook until I ate here. Chef's selection and skills coupled with the expert service from her husband are unrivalled. We were left speechless by the dinner. Michelin where are you?

This was hands down the best dinner we had during our trip to Portugal. The owner set the tone right away by explaining the highlights of the menu in-depth and providing recommendations based on their specialties. All of the petiscos are homemade, thoughtful, and delicious. The highlights for us were the pumpkin bread with the port wine reduction sauce, the tripe, the sardines, and the chicken and cornbread sausage with chickpeas and a fried egg. Dessert consisted of chocolate cake and “Duoro” egg cake with lemon ice cream, both with excellent port wine pairings. We also took 2 “damas” almond pastries to go and they were fantastic. They aren’t serving breakfast currently, otherwise we would have come back the very next morning. The couple who runs this restaurant are so nice and are clearly very passionate about serving up high quality Portugese food. 10/10 experience.

I had an absolutely exquisite dining experience at this restaurant in Porto. I tried every recommended dish, and each one was a masterpiece. The hosts, Álvaro and Lucia, made us feel like we were guests in their home, giving us their undivided attention and making the entire evening unforgettable. I’m leaving Porto with a big smile, knowing I had the privilege of dining at one of the most heartfelt and welcoming restaurants I’ve ever visited. Truly a gem!

I visited twice during my short stay in Porto. Worth it both times. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. Beautiful little intimate space. Recommend making a reservation for evenings. Cash only. I would go back again if I visit Porto another time.

Lovely little restaurant with typical Portuguese food. The owners love to chat and are so helpful when choosing your dishes. We highly recommend trying the tripa.

I was very impressed with this tiny restaurant. I went for lunch. The host is a very sympathetic guy who is very knowledgeable about the food, takes his time to advise you and he is a true gentleman. You can clearly tell that the owners (couple) have passion for their job. The woman who cooks everything was also very kind. I wish I could have come back to try the other options from the menu (especially the desserts) but unfortunately I am heading home!

Really amazing culinary experience. The combination of the rustic bread with the with the even more rustic bread, especially the pumpkin one really made this experience special. The orange juice and hot chocolate were also extremely delicious. And the server was always very kind and helpful in any language. Loved this place and would come back many times again.

The owner is so friendly and pays attention to every details. Even just giving us tissue he removed the first one so we knew it is 100% clean. He had his way to arrange plates so we could have the best dining experience on a small table. Love that He explained every dishes, especially when he talked about the recipes his wife created, it is a place full of love. ❤️ The most important thing of course is that all the food we had was amazing! The pumpkin bread was impressive, we bought an entire roll to go. We will definitely come back to try more things especially the desserts. Thanks for the great food and service. :)

Yelp
When traveling, you often risk a bad meal in the hopes of finding a good one. And every once in a while, you find not a good meal, but an exceptional experience. Tonight was that night, and this was the place. Reservations are absolutely required unless you, like we, are lucky enough to be one of the first people walking in when they first open. There are but three tables, each deuces, reserved for walk-ins. And bring cash, because they do not have a credit card option. You have the requirements, now the part you've waited for. The meal. I could begin with only the food, but it would serve to be unfair. The owners, a husband and wife, don't just make the food and serve it. They coddle it. Alvero, the husband, greeted us with a vibrance only an owner possesses. He cheerfully greeted us and sat us. He quickly ascertained our intentions and accomodated our desires. He brought the menus and, in extraordinary detail and with a depth of knowledge rately found in the restaurant business. It is a passion, not just a job. And it is clearly not only his passion, because when you taste the food, well, you'll understand. The passion is a family affair. We began the evening with a glass of young wine, which is green, which my partner enjoyed tremendously. Our food commenced with three types of bread (pumpkin, carrot, and and I think chestnut) and a cheese and sausage board. While we tried to only sample the bread, we couldn't stop eating it, along with the homemade jams. The board was good, well balanced, and the flavors of the meats and cheeses complimented each other well. Each came with a remarkable description of the origin, components, and anticipated flavors, all quite accurate. Our main course was based on the chef's grandmothers' recipe. Pork specially prepared and served on crustini, with salad, all prepared with love to perfection. We finished with two desserts, which we intended to sample. Instead, we finished both. They were that good! One was the homemade chocolate cake with a fudge sauce, the other an amazing pastry filled with homemade jam, I think. All I know is it was remarkable! Sitting next to other tourists who were as excited to share the time made the experience even better. This is a highly recommended place to go when visiting Porto. But remember to make reservations if you want to be sure to get a seat.

Yelp
Hands down one our favorite stop for breakfast. This place is small, 3 tables for two, 1 table for 4 and 1 for one. When we stopped during the week, we got in no problem. When we came on Saturday, we waited in line for the place to open. We were seated immediately and the owner recognized us from earlier in the week. The traditional Portuguese tasting experience for breakfast including coffee with milk, scrambled eggs and two different toasts. I got it both times because it was amazing. While everyone in Porto has been kind, this owner must be the nicest person I have ever met. Very gracious, very apologetic for his English though we thought it was great, and he felt very grateful we came back a 2nd time. We joked we would see him tomorrow. He said they are closed tomorrow and will be for the next month. His wife is having surgery and will need time to recover. So glad we were able to stop in here and wishing the family luck over their next month closed. Adding this to my list should I find myself back here.

Yelp
DON'T BE FOOLED September 2023 CHECK ON THE OTHER 1 REVIEWS. YOU WILL SEE A COMMON TREND. This place looked promising on the pictures. From what I researched it is a family business. We arrived at around 11 AM so we weren't sure if they were still serving breakfat therefore I stepped into the place to ask about this when I received a big hand by the guy attending the tables accompanied with a "señor pare/espere" or something like that in a very rude and loud way. I immediately turned around and walked out of the place. We decided to go next door. It's very unfortunate to have someone that have ZERO customer service skills be the person representing the restaurant. Visitors/clients/human beings are not supposed to be treated that way. It was definitely very uncomfortable for everyone in there. Just because of this I would not recommend the place. There are way better options in Porto. You don't need this idiot story in your vacation. Eu imediatamente me virei e saí do lugar. Service: 1/5

Yelp
Oh my oh my. if you don't visit this restaurant then you're missing out. Each dishes we ordered was a total hit. Everything on the menu was made with perfection!!! It has been a month since I been to the restaurant, but I still can't forget or get over how great it was.... You can see how passionate the boss is with everything he does including the chef (his wife). Honestly, you can order anything and it will be amazing.

Yelp
I LOVE this place. I was here for a week in Porto and stopped here twice. I probably would have went another time. But they are closed Sunday. The man that owns this place is the nicest man in the whole world. He made you feel welcome. Explained everything. And the food was delicious and came out quickly. Was very reasonably priced.

Yelp
Fantastic service! We were served by the owner who is multilingual. We initially thought it was a tourist trap even though there are 4.8 stars according to google reviews. However that is not the case! The owner is super passionate about the foods and was able to describe them to us with detail. His wife was making some of the dishes and we thought it was incredibly cute how he would gush about her cooking. Local business with very flavorful food and experience. We were surprised that all of the food we ordered totaled to only 56€. Very affordable compared to NY but it might be on the higher side given the portions compared to other local shops. Very yummy experience and would love to visit again.

Yelp
A must-go breakfast or lunch spot. Had the Portuguese breakfast which was so good and cheap, decided to comeback again another day for lunch which was also delicious. The service as well was exceptional, so kind and hospitable. 11/10

Yelp
Delicious food. Unbelievably kind owners. Excellent service. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Porto.

Yelp
Our best meal in Porto! Better than some Michelin Star restaurants I have dined at. The atmosphere is very nice, and being run by a husband and wife, it is also warm and inviting. With the most nuanced flavors and a balance of fresh veggies, flavorful meat, and crispy bread, it was the best food we had during our week. Our only regret was that we found it on our last day because we definitely would have returned. The Broa bread and spread was delicious. This place deserves an award!

Yelp
Great food and great service! We had the tripes Dama and chicken gizzard Dama and the pumpkin bread. Amazing for lunch! Flavours were really good, and definitely not touristy. Find this gem!

Yelp
Best breakfast in Porto. So good that I spent my two mornings in Porto in the establishment. There is a breakfast set that includes scrambled eggs, rustic bread toast with jam, a choice of specialty toast (chestnut, pumpkin, carrot) with jam, fresh OJ, and coffee, for 8.20 euros. The bread is so good I wish I could have it everyday. And the jams! We couldnt leave Porto without taking a few with us. Also tried the flame grilled linguica, which is cooked table-side, and was served with strawberry pepper jam- sweet and savoury perfection. The owner speaks English and is extremely personable and sweet. He manages the establishment with his wife, who was so nice. She noticed my interest in the jams and let me sample all of them, even ones that they didn't already have open. This couple is a true emblem of hospitality.

Yelp
This is a small restaurant run by a husband and wife pair. The wife cooks authentic and rustic Portuguese dishes, while the husband serves the patrons. While the food was absolutely delicious (the hand squeezed orange juice was like nectar, and the pumpkin bread was one of the best things ever), what really stands out at this restaurant is the service. The husband is just so passionate about his wife's food, and he explains in great detail all the items on the menu. They pour a lot of love into their restaurant, and it is really reflected in the food and the experience.

Yelp
Super yummy Portuguese breakfast, the eggs are soft and flavorful, sardines and mushroom toast are also yummy. OJ is sweet and fresh. The waiter is very helpful and attentive, highly recommend and would love to come back for lunch

Chris P.

Yelp
We came for lunch and had the tuna petiscos sandwich, the breads (pumpkin, carrot and chestnut) and the mixed board between 2 people. They all came with local jams as well. The service was brilliant and the waiter was super nice, talked us through the whole menu! It was really well priced as well. Super lunch, would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast and had the scrambled eggs and freshly baked Portuguese breads. The breads are served with local jams like Port jam and are the perfect way to begin the day. Service was great too!

Giselle M.

Yelp
Best pork sandwich! Apparently the pigs only eat grass and you can taste the difference. Marmalades are perfection! They make their marmalades to join perfectly with their bread. I had to take their Port jelly home. Plus, great service! Was so happy with finding this on trip advisor.

Courtney T.

Yelp
It's been almost a year since we ate there but I still remember it well. This was our best meal in our 7 nights of Portugal. The pork sandwich was amazing as was the pumpkin bread. The rest of my family enjoyed all of their food as well. My kids thought the drinking chocolate was wonderful. The owners were so kind and we had excellent service. We hope to make it back since we are all still talking about it a year later.

Yelp
I love this place! I wish it was in Portland because I'd go everyday. The owner is very sweet, the wine is plentiful, the sweets are to die for (!), the cafe pingados are superb, and the salad is my most favorite (if you like vegetables and you're traveling in Portugal you know my pain). Go here for breakfast and then Casa Guedes for lunch;).
