I tried Damas Penang, an Arabic restaurant, and overall had a pleasant dining experience with a mix of strong highlights and one small downside.
The mushroom soup was excellent—rich, warm, and full of flavor. I also really enjoyed the fattoush salad; it was fresh, well seasoned, and nicely balanced. For the main course, the server recommended a kebab with tomato sauce, and it turned out to be a good choice. The kebab was flavorful and well prepared, and the sauce complemented it nicely.
For dessert, I ordered Arieka, a traditional Yemeni dessert made with molawah bread, cream, milk, honey, cheese, and nuts. While I appreciated trying something traditional and authentic, this dessert just wasn’t to my personal taste. The combination of flavors and textures didn’t work for me, though others who enjoy richer or more traditional desserts might like it.
Overall, Damas Penang is a solid spot for Arabic food, especially if you’re looking for tasty soups, fresh salads, and well-prepared kebabs. I’d definitely return for the savory dishes and simply skip dessert next time.
