Visiting Budapest: 3 - 4 Day Suggested Itinerary (Updated 2025)

"A no-frills, recently refurbished Art Deco bath (opened in 1930) popular with locals, offering massages, a diving pool, and a sauna at a lower price point." - Matthew Kepnes

6 of the hottest thermal baths in Budapest, Hungary that locals can’t get enough of - SilverKris

"A genuine local choice in the ninth district next to the Zwack Unicum Factory, this no-frills bath has proletarian charm—surrounded by residential blocks it feels like a communal backyard where regulars gather and English is rarely heard. The indoor pool is typically busy even on weekday mornings with older Hungarian patrons, and small extra charges apply for outdoor pools that are kept at a comfortable 36–38°C, making it pleasant year-round." - SilverKris

Speaking of Hungary, it’s famous for its thermal baths! But many places can be quite expensive. This bath, however, was very reasonably priced. There seem to be tickets for both indoor and outdoor areas, or for indoor only. This time, we went indoors and paid 2,400 Ft (about 1,200 JPY) per person. After entering, we received a wristband with a chip, which you use for accessing gates and lockers. The essentials are a swimsuit, sandals, and a towel. You can rent them, but the rental fees are much higher than the entrance fee, so I wouldn’t recommend it. The lockers and showers are unisex. When changing into your swimsuit, there’s a unisex fitting room for that. The indoor baths included pools marked as 20°C (cold), 35°C, and 38°C, plus a sauna. In reality, the pool labeled 35°C felt closer to 38°C, and the 38°C pool felt around 41°C. Even for Japanese people used to hot baths, it’s perfectly warm and comfortable. As a travel memory, I’d say it’s excellent value for the experience

We enjoyed our morning here and definitely recommend it if you are looking to relax. Here is some information to help you plan your trip here. Things to bring: swimsuit, towel, credit card if you want to buy something from the little cafe there, flipflops, a little bag to carry things in and your phone with the QR codes on if you bought your tickets online. Some people bring a hat, reading material, sunscreen (for sun lounging after going in the pools, sunglasses, water bottle. We bought our tickets online at the site linked on this page as the official website. The price was 2900HUF per person. On the website it indicated that the inside pools (excluding the cold pool) were closed for renovation. This did not deter us. The tickets are emailed to you. Note that there is a message that says not to use Microsoft email addresses. Upon arrival we went up the stairs and found the ticket counter. She smiled and scanned the QR codes we received. We were then given a "watch" each. See photos. No deposit was asked for. To enter the changing area you need to go up the stairs. Here you use your "watch" to scan an electric turnstile. You enter. Also there is a friendly woman worker here who will assist you if you don't understand the technology (like me!)😅 You turn right and enter an area with lockers. Interestingly it is for everyone regardless of your sex. I found a room titled a "cabin". I used this room to change into my swimsuit. I then went and found a locker. You use your "watch" to lock your locker. There are pictures and some English here to help you along but we did have to intuit a bit too. And it worked like magic. There are washrooms here, a shower area. You leave the changing area the same way you came. You go back down the stairs. The sauna was inside and it was open for use. We used the two outside pools. One was 36C and the other was 38C. There is an outdoor shower there as well. The atmosphere was very relaxing. There are sunbeds inside and outside. In view of both pools you will find an area to hang your bag and/or towel if you choose to bring anything with you. We left everything locked in the locker. The outdoor pools, the changing room upstairs, and the washrooms were very clean and in very good shape. You can use the spinner to help remove excess water from your bathing suit. There are small bags for you to place your wet suit in. After you leave the changing area you place your watch in a slot by the turnstile. This allows you to leave. Please don't worry if you don't remember all this. Everyone was friendly and helpful. There are a lot of signs that were in English as well as Hungarian.

I dare say: the better bath in Budapest for the discerning afficionado. I am quite the bath lover, and I also tried Veli Bej, Rudas, Lukacs and Szechenyi. Still have a few more to try, but so far Dandar comes on top EASY. OK you're not bathing in a XVIth century cave, but you get the best steam room (by far), the best cold plunge (by far also) and the best relaxation area, all right next to each other, so you can do the magic combo of hot/cold/rest/repeat. No other bath house comes close. - the steam room is the best. Powerful, super clean, comfortable, multi level seats to chose the temperature, a hose of cold water, an ice dispenser right outside, showers just in front. 5 stars. It is also right next to the cold plunge and the relaxation area, no need to walk 10 min like in some others. - there is a cold plunge (Veli Ben doesn't have any!!?) and it is at 15°C. I'd love colder, but it still beats all others baths significantly. Rudas didn't have anything under 20, Lukacs was 17. - the relaxation area is right in front, and it has enough lounge chairs (an issue in other bath houses) - the thermal pools are airy, clean. There are 2 (38° and 35°) and a cold pool (20°) next to it. Again, layout is sensible. It is missing hotter pools, that's unfortunate. - the price is the lowest of all, and by far!!! Twice cheaper than the next cheapest one, 10 times cheaper than Disneyland Szechenyi. It's not everyday that the cheapest option is also the best. - there is no time limit (like the ridiculous 3h in Veli Bej for example). - it is not overcrowded like most others. All of this makes for the best bathing experience in Budapest. Of course, if you are the average tourist, sure you'll get a better views at Rudas, more bling at Szechenyi, or more fancy decor at Veli Bej. But if you come for bathing, look no further. Although I would say that compared to the rest of the bathing world, Budapest disappoints as a whole, and doesn't come anywhere close to what a good Jjim Jill Bang delivers.

The baths are small but nice, with a relaxing atmosphere. However, the staff was extremely rude and made the experience unpleasant. Our ticket was from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. We left the pool at 6:40 as asked, but there were only three showers, so of course everyone had to wait. While I was drying my hair around 6:55, two staff members kept repeating “we’re closing, please go” in a very rude way, even though it was clear we were hurrying. It was only 7:05 PM, but their tone was unacceptable, really insisting. I asked their names: Levante Fejes and Levante Roszusza. The place is nice, but the staff really needs to learn how to treat customers with respect.

It's not an extravagant bath house. But! Very affordable. The MOST affordable (as far as I know) in Budapest. Multiple pools of multiple temperatures, both indoors and outdoors. Saunas as well. The staff is very sweet and friendly and helpful. Do bring towels and flip-flops for your own convenience. PS: If you think you'll mostly find old people because it's a bit old and secluded, you'd be wrong! Plenty of young folk visit.

Visited during middle day. Very easy to get around, staff very helpful and friendly. Not too many people. We stayed around 3-4 hours. Indoor, outdoor. For us 10 from 10.

Have a good soak although the temperatures was a bit low for me (38degC) even in the warmest pool. I opt for both the indoor and out door pools, which cost me ft 3400 in total. Also filled up my bottle with the thermal drinking water on my way out. Recommended!

I only give this place 3 stars because it's the cheapest of the five baths I've been to (Rudas, Lukacs, Szechenyi and Gellert) the other four. It's Ok, but to be honest I would rather pay a bit more for better facilities. The Wellness Centre is poor in comparison to Rudas and there is no swimming pool. The three indoor baths have temperature of 20C, 35C and 38C, whilst the two outdoor baths have temperatures of 36C and 38C. I prefer hotter and colder eg. Gellert I recorded 44C and 13.5C. If you pay the additional amount of 700 huf on top of the 2700 huf, you get to use the steam room (circa 44C) and Sauna (circa 44C) the cold pool there I recorded at only 17C, I wanted colder. It's really popular with local Hungarian people, not many tourists here. But whilst I enjoyed my visit, I rank it last of the five. My No1 based on both price and facilities is Rudas, no contest !!!
