"D&Department, a youthful shop housed in a 13th-century Bukkoji temple, focuses on designer housewares, kitchen goods, and foods. Conceivedby Kenmei Nagaoka, a professor at Kyoto University of Art and Design, and his students, the store sells products such assturdy tea mugs and glass tokkuri (Japanese sake sets), and highlights specialty, small-batch food producers whom they’ve met in person. The result is a special range of sesame seed oils, additive-free pickles, and heirloom misos and soys. D&Departmentwill occasionally include imported products that adhere to the founders'ethos, such asdurable Freitag bags from Switzerland, which are made from recycled truck tarps."

Always drop by this curated gift shop / concept store while in town. Got my tea for friends and my father bought a pair of ember earrings for mom. I wished i have more $$ so i can get the meditation bowl.

D&Department is a unique concept store housed in a repurposed temple. The beautifully curated space offers a mix of local crafts, design pieces, and more. While we didn’t end up buying anything, it’s worth visiting for the aesthetics and the experience alone. I just started my polarstep account, for more tips www.polarsteps.com/sarahvanours Also more travel on insta: corneliawillemien

At first i was confuse, i couldn’t find the shop. So its inside the temple, there were sign as well. Again, now i’ve become a d&d fan. Great place for Kyoto souvenirs. Everything here was so well curated. Authentic and local. Browsing for chopsticks throughout Kyoto for five days and finally find a preferred chopsticks here. Wish i could carry all the glassware home. The staff was also friendly and helpful on giving recommendations.

D&Department Kyoto occupies an nice space within the temple complex and consists of a shop area and a dining area which serves a variety of sweets and simple meals. The food is quite decent but the pricing can be a little bit costly compared to other eateries in the area.

Such a lovely shop inside the temple. We had a great time looking at all the variety of goodies, and even got myself a Jojo Geta. Thank you to the friendly male staff for assisting us (: Will definitely visit again~

The vibe of this store is very nice. It’s inside a temple. Just drop by if you are around!
