蛋佬 Dan Lao Scrambled Egg Rice

Danlao - Prices ranges from 5.50-7.50. I ordered their signature chicken cutlet bowl. The chicken was fried nicely, with the chicken meat still being juicy and the batter hot and crispy. The batter was slightly thick but still manageable in my opinion. I would definitely order the chicken cutler again. Portion was decent as well. Scrambled eggs were fluffy and well seasoned. The rice however was a let down. The rice was slightly undercooked and lacked of flavour. If it is not paired with the scrambled egg, the rice is a no go.

My husband has been eating at this stall for a while, so I finally decided to give it a try. The two men working today were absolutely hilarious! I’m not much of a carbs person, so I asked for less rice. The chef’s antics were priceless — he first scooped a tiny portion, I asked for a bit more, then it somehow became too much and he had to reduce it again. By the last bit, I didn’t dare complain, and he just said, “Why not, I’ll give you 5 grains?” Hahaha. We shared the luncheon meat and prawn. Luncheon meat is my husband’s all-time favorite, while prawn was new for us. Between the two, the luncheon meat definitely stole the show. The egg also had a nice touch of sweetness. It’s classic comfort food — tasty and satisfying, but yes, a little oily. A true love-hate relationship!

I’ve had egg rice and chicken katsu in Japan and can say Danlao is in a similar level. With affordable and generous portions, Danlao will be my recommendations for all who go to Maxwell food center. The dish is made fresh upon order – the chef fries the egg and prepared the chicken katsu in the frying machine so that it’s fresh as soon as you order it. Then, the rice is plated and drizzled with sweet sauce followed by the egg and another layer of sauce and the chicken on top. The chicken itself had an extremely satisfying and crispy crust that was enjoyable every bite. The egg was slightly runny but soft and fluffy. Everything complimented each other well! The only thing I wish was for more sauce or umami flavor from the sauce.

$6.50 for fried chicken cutlet and luscious scrambled eggs and rice. Can add chilli. Great tasty protein meal! What else can you ask for!

This dish surprised me. The chicken was perfectly fried—crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and well-seasoned without being overpowering. What really tied it all together was the scrambled egg base: soft, creamy, and flavourful, almost like a comforting blanket over the rice. It is simple hawker fare, but done with real care. You can tell the team puts effort into every plate. I left full and satisfied—and honestly, a little impressed. Will definitely be back. Sometimes, all it takes is a good bowl of chicken rice to turn the day around.

Came to try danlao because I'm huge lover of scrambled eggs and heard good reviews. Overall i had a good experience and the bowl of egg rice was truly good. I tried two types, one with prawns and one with the big cubes of luncheon meat. Both were really good, with the luncheon meat being chunky, giving the bowl good texture. The prawns were generous in portion too and eggs are wet and tasty. Service was really quick too, i may have waited only 2 mins before both my orders were ready which was really impressive. Only complaint is the service was really 'short' and there was some attitude from the uncle. Not sure if that's how he usually communicates but it could be off putting for some. I took some time to adjust as well. I will be back to try the others though, hope there will be more options available soon!

Egg was extremely creamy and done right on the spot upon ordering! Fried chicken was delicious and was not the usual, had a fermented NanRu taste to it as well! I didn’t get spring onions in my dish but had a generous amount of sauce poured over the egg and rice, making it a wonderful combination.

Had the chicken cutlet rice but didn’t enjoy it much since there was more flour coating than chicken, and it wasn’t very crispy. The luncheon meat rice was flavorful and tasty, although it was a little oily.
