Danny's is our go-to when we're in the mood for an AYCE salad bar in our neck of the woods. Danny's is known for their soup and salad bar. Alone it costs $14.99. Or for $4.99 you can add it to any meal. Being the forever cheap'o that I am, I almost always order a cheese quesadilla for $10.99 and add the salad bar, for a total of $15.98. That way it feels like I paid 99-cents for the cheese quesadilla on top of the salad bar. :-D
I love an excellent salad bar, and Danny's is pretty good. But I'm docking a star for a few suggested areas of improvement:
** One mark of an excellent salad bar that Danny's is missing is eggs. For $14.99, adding some chopped eggs or hard-boiled eggs seems like a reasonable ask, especially since egg prices are starting to level out again.
** A fantastic salad bar usually has more than one cheese option, too. Danny's usually just has shredded mozzarella. A crumbly blue and/or feta would be great.
** Black and/or green olives are missing from the line-up too, also a staple of a top-notch salad bar.
** And all of the soups are typically meat-based--even the vegetable soups. As a vegetarian I have yet to have any of Danny's soups. The salad bar usually include five or six soups. It would be nice if on occasion one of them was vegetarian, like if the vegetable soup or cheddar broccoli soup was made with vegetable broth instead of chicken broth for a change.
(Or, hear me out, make your famous chicken wing soup base with vegetable broth instead of chicken broth, and use cauliflower instead of chicken for a vegetarian version of your famous soup! Doesn't hurt to ask, haha.)
None of these seem like too tall of an order, as the only reason I mention it is other great salad bars I am familiar with include these options, and sometimes many more. So I'm just throwing it out there.
But by and large, my husband and I are usually pretty happy when we land at Danny's for a salad bar dinner. The restaurant has that friendly local-Cheers sort of vibe, parking is easy, and prices are reasonable. So we'll be back to Danny's again when we're in the mood to mow-down on some endless greens.
