I plotted my course leaving San Diego heading to Paso Robles and this place hit at the perfect spot just before closing and it didn’t disappoint. I had a pastrami sandwich with fries and they had one huge slice of chocolate cake that I just couldn’t leave behind. I really wish I had gotten there a little earlier so I could have sampled some other tasty treats. I will be stopping in on my next trip south.

Google
Fantastic Jewish deli in our little town. Chicken noodle soup a classic and flavored with fresh dill. Ordered 1/2 roasted chicken dinner. All very well seasoned and tender. Slice of the best German Chocolate Cake I've had in a long time.

Google
This is just what you expect from a deli. The food is very good and the service is great. I had the French toast, which was delicious. The only issue I had was dirty utensils.

Google
Mmmmmm I had the most delicious German chocolate cake!!! Better than cheesecake factory!!! We also tried their incredible Churro Waffle and ice cream

Google
This diner has an extensive menu. It serves breakfast all day. Our sandwiches and dinners were delicious. The staff was super friendly. The restaurant is nice and clean. We'll definitely be back.

Google
I was thrilled to find this place because I was deli starved. It is not the best deli I've been to, but I enjoyed the pastrami rueben. Pastrami was not as tender as I would have preferred, but I was jonesing so bad for deli food, I was happy. The fried pickles are certainly worth a try. I'll be going back to this place.

On a recent getaway from Phoenix, my wife and I had some spare time and discovered this delightful diner. We decided to give it a try for dinner and were really glad we did. The place has a classic diner ambiance, and the staff were incredibly welcoming. It's clearly a favorite among the locals, which we took as a great sign. The meals were excellent; I had the Shepherd's Pie, which I thoroughly enjoyed, while my wife had a salmon-topped salad with what she claimed were the best sweet potato fries she's ever tasted. I'd definitely recommend this diner for a meal, and I find myself wishing we lived closer so we could become regulars.

Yelp
As a fellow customer of Danny's Deli, I have to disagree with this Ignacio A's recent review. I've been dining here regularly, and my experience has been nothing like what is described. The staff has always been welcoming and attentive. I've never had an issue with being greeted or assisted, and I've seen the employees go out of their way to accommodate guests. Like any restaurant, there may be occasional busy moments, but to claim they are consistently inattentive or smug seems unfair. Cleanliness has never been a problem in my visits. The restaurant, including the restrooms, has always appeared well-maintained. If there was an issue on a particular visit, it would have been more productive to bring it up with management instead of making a sweeping statement about the conditions. The food? Always great. Of course, there may be slight variations--just like in any restaurant--but I've never experienced major inconsistencies. The flavors are excellent, and the quality of ingredients is apparent. As for the servers, they are professional and friendly. Sure, everyone has different personalities, but I've never encountered condescending or poor service. It's disappointing to see such a negative review that doesn't reflect the experience of so many regular customers especially when these men and women work so hard for us every day. To the staff at Danny's Deli: Don't be discouraged by this. Many of us appreciate the hard work you put in every day, and we will continue to support this great local spot! Keep up the great work Sincerely, A Loyal Customer

Yelp
BEST IN VENTURA! Food, People, Service, Hours, VETERAN friendly! 4 years of dining, seamless ownership change ( new owner Ray is an on hands owner operator) that maintains the dining experience that a previous decade established. My favorites are Meatloaf Platter, Hot Turkey Platter, Hot Pastrami, Shepherds Pie Honestly I have had so many of their choices and not even 1 miss. Danny's is an auto default when I wonder what to eat!

Yelp
Friends had recommended trying Danny's deli if we were in Ventura at lunchtime. Good recommendation! Able to get a spot in their parking lot right behind the restaurant. No problem getting a table at noon on a Thursday. I ordered the farmers omelette ($17) with potatoes on the side and a bagel for my bread. The omelette was loaded with ham and lots of cheese. Quite tasty but the highlight of the lunch was the potatoes. DELISH!!! My wife got the turkey wrap ($17) with the side of housemaid potato chips. The wrap was good. The chips were nothing to write home about.

Yelp
Danny's is a classic American deli with brakfast specials, every imaginable omelet, pancakes, belgian waffles, plus a full lunch menu. One of the few places in Ventura open at 7 am, it has its own parking lot, and lots of regulars. My favorite omelet, the chile and cheese, comes with perfect hash browns and sourdough toast. They also offer cookies, cakes, and pies displayed at the counter. Service in friendly.

Yelp
Best Pastrami Ruben in Ventura! Danny's Deli has a large menu covering breakfast, lunch and dinner. This is the type of place where everything is homemade and the regulars have their designated tables. It's way more than a Jewish deli because their bakery muffins, cakes and pies are always fresh and you can order for the holidays. The chicken noodle soup is as good as my homemade and they rotate their soup options. If you're looking for homemade without the effort, Danny's will treat you right!!

Yelp
Only one word indescribable it's just so nice and lovely the staff is so nice I just love it every time I come

Yelp
Delicious! The staff were friendly and helpful. The service was quick! It's a diner like setting. Nothing fancy, but nothing falling apart or in disrepair. Plenty of parking in their lot or the street. The chicken avocado club was delicious. Their fries are some of my favorite fries! The fried pickles were delicious as well, the breading was just a little thick. I've also had their chicken noodle and matzo ball soup which is delicious and so comforting. One of my go tos for comfort food. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Visited for the first time today. I honestly had no idea what to get. Thankfully our server was so kind and very knowledgeable. She recommended a veggie scramble that was just the right amount of spicy and delicious. The cafe itself is so cute with the palm trees sitting right as you stare out the window as well. Highly recommend!

Yelp
GETTING HERE: Located on the corner of Telegraph Road and North Dunning Street. It's next door to St. Bonaventure High School and you can access parking on the side street or in their lot. REVIEW: Yay for local businesses! Yay (also) for busy local restaurants on the weekend. I've been here many times over the years, and I am so thankful they made it through to the other side of shutdown and c0vid. On this most recent visit, my guest and I were quickly greeted and seated towards the back of the restaurant. Super busy staff, super busy with customers. :) We were able to place our orders and I ordered (what I thought) was an Italian Salami and my guest ordered the Reuben. Our food was delivered quite quickly, considering how busy they were. My guest devoured her Reuben; absolutely loved it. My sandwich was OK, but in hindsight they have 2 different Italian sandwiches. I inadvertently was delivered the sub, which has baloney. I didn't realize it until I was about 1/2 done. It's OK, but I was craving the salami. :) Really do recommend heading to Danny's. Great food. Prompt service. Nice homey feel inside. Thank you Danny's!

Yelp
I pre-ordered a quart of chopped liver for a hanukkah party I was having in Oxnard - from Danny's Deli/Diner in Ventura, on Dec. 28, 2024. I ordered on tuesday to pick up on Saturday. Went to pick up on Saturday. As many as 6 workers were milling about behind the counter. When one finally acknowledged my presence (at my insistence), I said "I'm here to pick up my order", (and then again, a lot of multiple workers milling around) before being told "we won't be making chopped liver until NEXT YEAR! BUT, feel free to check back after 11 am, maybe we'll have some". ?!?! Of course I asked for the Manager but was told the manager was out and would be back shortly. So an hour or so later, I called to there and asked to speak with Manager to see what could be done - the manager was now "out until 1 or 2" (my party started at 1). The girl I spoke to was LESS THAN apologetic nor did she offer a solution. (They could clearly have made chopped liver in 2 hours. ) If they were NOT going to fulfill my order - why didn't they call? They had the phone number on the order. That left me having to call 5 party attendees to get someone to pick up chopped liver in WESTLAKE VILLAGE - the closest other deli that makes it.

Yelp
Dannys, not Dennys, is a tiny deli restaurant with booths and middle chair areas. The middle chair areas were available, but the experience is significantly worse than if you would have the option of the booths. However, the booths take more time waiting for as there is a large line. Upon entering, there is a classy ambiance like IHOP and Dennys. The population is of elderly. The menu was massive, and they are known for Reubens and pastrami sandwiches as these are the most popular. However, I ordered their popular Reuben and had better tasting and better quality sanwhiches in Las Vegas. The sandwiches also tasted better at Greenbergs with more sweet sauce flavoring and savory salty meats. The size of the sandwich was small for 17$, so value is not the greatest. The star of the show is the French dip. This underrated sandwiche was not highlighted, and it was a 9/10 in flavor and quantity. It had an amazing taste to it with the au jus sauce. My Reuben, which was popular and highlighted, was a 7.5/10. Although decent, it was not a great value and was salty without much sweetness to it. I ordered a fruit side, and it was okay. Ambiance is peaceful but uncomfortable because we don't want to wait for a table to eat at the comfortable booths. The chairs were scrunched in the middle with hard pads and poor support for your back. The table is also narrow and placed horribly in the restaurant. It was crowded when entering, which may or may not be good. If crowded, people like it. But it also leaves you with the crappy seats. The price, service, and value overall was okay in 2023 as compared to others l, but could have been better with a better ambiance and better value. The food, especially that French dip, was the highlight.

Yelp
If you couldn't tell from the photos, I've been here a few times already, and I've been very pleased every time and have come out very full and sadly missed dessert. It's got a classic deli/diner. Feel when you walk in service is always been very friendly and quick. There's cases on the left side filled with desserts, cookies, cakes, pies, as well as their deli items. They make fresh bagels and breads. The food is always good portions for good prices and pretty darn tasty multiple soup was a classic, the latkes (potato pancakes) were ok, but we're really takes the cake (other than their cakes) are there deli meats. Great Rubens, corned beef, and pastrami sandwiches. The fries are deliciously crispy, too. If somehow you have room for dessert, you still got a lot of options.

Yelp
Excellent! Old school but delish... Service was extremely friendly and quick. Driving up to Solvang and found this gem! Got a NY style pastrami deli sandwich on rye piled with meat. Pastrami was so lean and delicious, and the bread was soft and true traditional tasting rye with crusty edges! Wow wonderful! Also tried the grandma's matzoh ball soup one of the best I've had in a long, long time! Tantalize your taste buds & your soul. Traditional, tasty light, lots of noodles, vegetables, and a huge, huge matzo ball! Don't miss this diamond in the rough! Can't wait to come back. Bravo!

Yelp
You know a restaurant is really DELICIOUS if it's consistently busy (sometimes packed). You also know it's REALLY affordable if it's filled with older people. You know that f the atmosphere is noisy and jovial that people eating there are HAPPY! Service here is exceptional! You get seated fast, waited on fast and treated like family. All staff here have been amazing every time. The menu here is phenomenal! And everything is so tasty and so good! I love it! Love it! Delicious!

Yelp
Danny's is a favorite destination for us. It's an old fashioned deli with great food and reasonable prices. I want to add that the service is always stellar! As a vegetarian, I like the fact that they have a "Meatless Menu" with great choices. They also have wonderful baked goods... my favorite is the Dutch apple pie (with ice cream). It's a large serving that easily serves two diners. They have the most amazing rye bread that can be purchased to take home. I grew up on rye bread, and this is one of the best I've tried. Danny's is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner... give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I've had a lot of pastrami sandwiches- this is by far the best! Served on the best rye bread also. Now I don't need to drive to Brent's anymore.

Yelp
My family and I eat here every Sunday for dinner. Food is great and the service is great too! Kathleen is so wonderful and kind. She really goes above and beyond.

Yelp
We haven't been here in a while. Wow! It was always good, but they've actually managed even better somehow. Wife and I shared a Denver omelet. We forgot to tell our waitress we wanted it "soft". Another waitress was coming by, we asked for our waitress and she offered to help herself. "I got it", and this team service was evident as we watched them work. Excellent service, Excellent food, and Top notch Wait staff. We'll be back more frequently!! Denver omelet was perfection. Potatoes - ditto. Even the bagel was somehow special. Great Coffee as well. Perfect breakfast visit.

Ashley M.

Yelp
Great food and friendly service - went there twice while visiting the area for family.

Yelp
Years later and this is STILL my comfort food hot spot. They have it all under one roof. My server is always nice, prompt and super accommodating in fulfilling my comfort food fantasies. Recently had a chocolate chip pancake, potato latkes, potato knish with gravy, Ruben sandwich, German chocolate cake and as usual, matzo ball soup. It was all piping hot and STELLAR! I try matzo ball soup every city I go and Danny's CANNOT be beat. It's so similar to my grandmothers: savory chicken broth, carrots, onions, celery, dill, parsley, noodles, perfectly dense (huge) matzo balls and whole chicken (not cut up breast pieces--bleh!). Eye roll for how ridiculously GOOD IT IS. It can get busy, especially at lunch time and weekends so plan accordingly. If you haven't tried this place yet, add it to the list. It's DELICATESSEN HEAVEN!
google avatar

Aimee L.

Yelp
A trip to Danny's is a must when I visit Mom. In keeping with a lean soup regimen, we opted for the far more reasonable bowl of matzo ball soup vs the enormous chicken in a pot. Tempted by the mention of gravy and curious, we ordered a knish which I've never had before. The soup was great. The salty matzo ball complemented the sweetness of the carrots and the mellow character of the broth. It was just the right size. The knish was okay. The outer pastry was very doughy and bland but the mashed potatoes were salty and oddly dry. The gravy helped a bit but I wouldn't order again. Service is awesome as it always is.

Yelp
Food was amazing!!! We stopped by since it was on our way and I wanted chili. The portions are great and the prices are very reasonable, plus the taste of the food was amazing. The staff were super duper nice, and i felt cared for. The bathrooms were very clean and smelled really good. We even got an apple desert with ice cream and it was delicious. 10/10 recommend

Yelp
Love their turkey sandwich dinner. Went yesterday afternoon with friends and they enjoyed their dinner as did I. Our waitress was amazing and kept my coffee cup full. Food was hot and delicious.

Havana B.

Yelp
Came on a Friday during rush hour and we had a big group. The servers put together tables so we could all fit together...so nice!!!! The servers take your order in a power stance, they're so cool, ugh! This food was so bomb. I'll be back. Mark my words.

Yelp
Service is great, food is great, and it is a welcoming *diner style restaurant. It reminds me of Norm's in L.A. We ordered three salads and a pastrami on rye. The salads were very fresh and plentiful, full of ingredients and generous. The only thing is that the side salad a mix greens house salad had the largest amount of dressing on the side. It was about 1/2 cup of creamy balsamic, more than enough, so we dipped our bagel chips with the dressing. Also, my pastrami sandwich was on the smaller size, then usual, it needed more sliced pastrami. But, the most ridiculous or absurd is the fact with the check-in *offer. I included a pic of this. Upon checking in, you will receive a, now get this, a high five (free) from the owner?? What? I don't know if the owner doesn't like Yelp or its users or is just joking around. Anyway this business has new owners and they need to get rid of this, again, ridiculous offer.

Yelp
My first time dining in at Danny's Deli today and it was a pleasurable experience. I have previously gotten take out latkes from here, as they are the only Jewish deli in the area, but had never had an opportunity to dine in. The latkes are delicious, by the way! My parents came up from Northridge to have lunch with me today and Danny's Deli seemed like a good casual place for us to go. Being from Northridge, we are used to the excellence that is Brent's Deli. Danny's did not disappoint! My dad ordered the pastrami reuben, my mother the philly cheesesteak, and myself the chicken avocado sandwich. All were very tasty and generous portions - we all took half of our sandwich home. The waitress was very friendly. The prices are reasonable as well. I look forward to coming back and trying some of the breakfast items. Overall, it was a very nice meal and we all agreed we would be back. My only minor complaints would be that I ordered a piece of dutch apple pie, which we shared - the apples and crumble were delicious but the crust on the bottom was unfortunately soggy and not very good. The other thing was the menu had some sticky residue which got on my hands - they may need to wipe those down a bit more often.

Yelp
Long standing deli in Ventura. Famous for their pastrami sandwiches. Tried their turkey club for the first time. Excellent! The bread was toasted just the way I like it- a little burnt around the edges. The avocado was delicious and the bacon extra crunchy. Plenty of turkey in this sandwich. Nicely plated. The potato salad was light and creamy. The service was very good. The server would check in periodically and refill my drink.

Yelp
Such good home cooked food. You can't really go wrong with anything on the menu. Even as delivery, the food holds up well. Definitely recommend this local gem.
google avatar

Nick H.

Yelp
Can't recommend this place enough, not only are their dishes all well cooked and tasty, they are also fairly priced, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the staff are all pleasant as can be. Highly recommend their Ruben and fries. Their pies are also delicious. Parking can be a little sparse but there is a lot of curbside parking just past the restaurant next to the homes on the street. This was my second time here, my first was actually picking up food for myself and my wife while she was in labor at the hospital up the road. We took my daughter back 11 months later and she had a great time. She really liked having bites of my chicken noodle soup.

Yelp
Moving back to Ventura County a few years ago has made me discover locals spots that I never knew about when I was a teenager. One of those spots is Danny's Deli and Grill. This local spot is awesome! The menu is large and diverse and the staff treats you like family. For me, this is my go to spot for deli sandwiches. You can go wrong with any of them. Last visit I had the Reuben sandwich with Pastrami. Super delicious! The pastrami was tender and flavorful and went perfect with the rye bread, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and 1000 island. I gobbled that up like in two seconds. On the side I had their homemade potato chips which was a perfect compliment to the Reuben sandwich. If you ever get the chips, make sure to get ranch to dip it in. So good! My wife got the Eggplant marinara dish and she loved it. She's the healthy one in the family and loves that the menu has a good selection of health conscious dishes. My son got the cheeseburger and fries and of course love it. He's pretty much Wimpy from Popeyes now. They make a great burger here. And of course I have to mention about the desserts. My wife got the Cheesecake with strawberries while my son and I shared a Chocolate chip Cheesecake. They were perfect! Cheesecake Factory makes some good cheesecakes for the masses, but sometimes you want that homemade taste. And here, they nailed it with their cheesecakes. Overall you can't go wrong coming here. I think they have the best deli sandwiches in Ventura County and for me, will return time and time again. If you haven't been here, definitely check it out at least one time. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Both stars are for the food server. Been coming here for years. Went in today with two friends that were new to Danny's. I ordered whitefish salad - they were out. I ordered creamed herring. A big gob of sour cream and onions with four 1 inch pieces of herring so, I paid $13 for herring flavored sour cream. Too often new owners destroy successful restaurants by cutting corners. I hope they will remember why Danny's is a staple and return to giving customers a rightful portion for the cost.

Yelp
Chicken noodle soup hands down for when you are feeling under the weather! Service was quick I placed order to go. Pick up was on time and quick.

Yelp
I'm from out of town, visiting my best friend on his birthday. "What kind of food would you like?" he texts me. "Comfort food," I reply in my text. "How about Danny's?" he asks, sending me a link to the website. I checked the website as well as the Yelp site. Many of the reviews mention the corned beef and cabbage. When we are there, I question the waitress. "What's better: the meatloaf or the corned beef and cabbage?" "We sell more of the meatloaf," she replies. I order the meatloaf. My son orders the corned beef hash. He is disappointed in the size of his serving of the corned beef. My best friend orders the reuben sandwich with pastrami. He enjoys his sandwich. My two pieces of meatloaf are soaking in gravy and tender and delicious, served with garlic mashed potatoes and fresh mixed vegetables. It is satisfying. See my pictures of the place. There are ample spaces in the parking lot. The seating is spread out with booths and tables. There's even a pay phone outside if you forget your cell phone at home.

Yelp
Great food, good service! Something on menu for everyone! Portions large enough for seconds at home

Yelp
Folksy & friendly neighborhood Deli & Grill. A favorite is matzo ball soup yet the sandwiches! They are customizable in size, contents, and bread. These are among my favorite things here.
google avatar

Joshua W.

Yelp
Danny's has gone downhill since new owner took over. It is really a shame. Except for a couple of great servers, the service is pretty awful. One waitress spent ten minutes talking to a couple (not about order but just shooting the shit) while she could see others including myself were waiting to order. Then, she got order all wrong , imagine that. It wasn't even that busy
google avatar

Anthony C.

Yelp
There's a reason Danny's deli has been around so long! It's an absolute staple in Ventura. The food is always good, breakfast, lunch, dinner. Get it all. The blackened chicken pasta has recently been one of my favorites for dinner.
google avatar

Dina C.

Yelp
Great food and service. The French dip and tuna melt are personal favorites! Pickles are great. My son loves the pancakes and my husband loves the Rueben.

Leigh C.

Yelp
We are new to town and so glad we found Danny's driving around one day. Made it in yesterday afternoon for a Pastrami sandwich. The sandwich was great and the coffee was good., but what made this place for me was Kathleen! When she found out we were first timers, she rolled out the welcome mat. She explained the menu and all that they baked goods they make in-house and even wrote down the soup menu for us to take home. With so many good looking things on the menu (very reasonably priced) and such a welcoming staff, we will be back, probably many times. Thank you so much Kathleen.

Yelp
This week is week 4 of the Biscuits & Gravy Sunday Challenge. We order to go, at different Ventura restaurants, before the football games begin. Then we YELP them as we eat the biscuits & gravy. We ordered 3 biscuits & gravy for $6.95. First of all, Danny's Deli gives you more gravy than the other restaurants. Hubby appreciates the bits of sausage in the gravy. The biscuits and gravy were very good. They are a solid B - no question about it. Did I mention that I am a high school teacher?? LOL. That is why I give grades instead of stars. I thought that the gravy needed something -- a little more salt and pepper. I thought that the dish was fine or good. Hubby thought the gravy was worthy of a B+. He felt the biscuits were a little doughy. I also ordered 2 rugelach @ .75 cents each. May I suggest putting them in your microwave for 13 seconds?? They are yummy. I'm grateful that I only ordered 2, as I might have eaten more of these today. In the past, I have ordered the bagel chips and challah bread from the deli. I also LOVE their BBQ chicken salad. I haven't ordered that since Covid. I really need to come back. Their is limited parking as they now have outdoor seating. In my opinion, it is worth the walk to eat here.

Luis C.

Yelp
Amazing pies love the food. Perfection with a great atmosphere! Drinks were awesome too definitely would go back.

Tessa C.

Yelp
Kathleen was an amazing server! Fodd was over the top delicious! Had eggplant marinara, daughter had chicken fried steak and son had Patty Melt. We loved it! My daughter is a picky eater and tried to finish everything! Thank you for out last meal in town to taste so delicious! Oops, took home delicious brownies and huge cookies! Go and enjoy one of the best.places!

Yelp
Still amazing as always. Came here after a long day to grab some dinner and some warm comforting beef shepherds pie. Kimberly A, is the best! She checked on me every few minutes to see if everything was okay and made sure my meal arrived on time. She has the sweetest voice and the most caring demeanor. I had a right day and she immediately perked me up. We need more Kimberlys in a world of Karens. Will definitely be back again and again!

Keisha T.

Yelp
First time eating here and the food was amazing! Best breakfast place we've been to so far and the service was fast. Workers are nice and the overall vibe was great. Will be coming back soon!

Yelp
Love Danny's. Old school deli. Just good solid food and service for a reasonable price. It's on our list for regular dining.

F D.

Yelp
Terrible experience. Food, service and management. Will not be returning. So many better places to spend your money in Ventura.

J C.

Yelp
Kyndle, our waitress, was excellent. She recommended the Bulgogi sliders for happy hour, and they were fantastic. They also have liver and onions, and a few things that most other restaurants don't serve. They have bagel rings and giant cookies. Decent prices for great food. Also, Kyndle looks like Karen Carpenter!
google avatar

Walton S.

Yelp
Stopped at Danny's for dinner with my family around 630pm on a Saturday and it was pretty packed. I like the menu because there are a lot of options. The food was delicious and the employees were very friendly. Will definitely be back for breakfast soon.

Yelp
When in Ventura... Do as the locals do. Old Skool style diner in a sleepy(ish) town. Food is solid, service is friendly. Be patient and you won't be disappointed.
