I booked a room with one king bed for a two-night stay. However, upon check-in, the hotel staff informed me that the room arranged had two single beds pushed together. I immediately pointed out that my reservation clearly indicated a king bed, and the staff confirmed this after checking the booking record. They assured me that they would change the room to one with a proper king bed.
To my surprise, when I entered the new room, it was still two single beds pushed together. It was quite clear that the hotel staff had simply made a superficial switch—replacing the room with another of the same setup, likely hoping I wouldn’t notice. They didn’t even mention that it was still a twin setup, as if I wouldn’t find out. I find it hard to understand how a five-star hotel could operate with such a mindset—resorting to deception and hoping guests wouldn’t speak up.
I brought this up again with the hotel, but received no compensation or meaningful apology—only a vague response that they would “strengthen staff training.” What’s more, shortly after I raised my complaint, I overheard another guest reporting the exact same issue to the front desk.
Additionally, the cleanliness of the room left much to be desired. There was a clearly visible layer of dust on the counter next to the sink area—not just minor specks, but a noticeable sheet of dust in a highly visible spot. While I understand that not every five-star hotel maintains a perfect five-star standard at all times, this level of neglect was disappointing and suggested a lack of attention to basic room upkeep.
Everything stated above is a factual and objective account of my experience. I share this to remind future travelers to think twice before choosing which hotel to stay in Singapore. There are many other excellent, well-priced hotels in Singapore that offer much better service.
