This beautiful, boutique hotel is one of my top recommendations for a stay in Chefchaouen. It is absolutely stunning - every nook stylishly curated, every turn, artistically enhanced, with such fine attention to detail. The grounds, whilst diminutive are similarly gorgeous, ditto the pool area. The elevated position bestows the benefit of fantastic views, yet you’re just steps away from passage to the old town. |I opted for the Sahara Suite, a 3rd floor room encompassing a sitting area and bedroom, with windows and decorative balconies overlooking the pool to one side, the incredible blue city to the other. Staff were wonderful throughout, with the exception of one guy, who I found to be curt and offhand, particularly in relation to my enquiry about which restaurants serve alcohol. Like most hotels and eateries in town, Dar Echchaouen isn’t licensed, though some hotels, including another I stayed at whilst in Chefchaouen (Dar Jasmine), do allow you to bring your own. |Mr Grumpy didn’t make this offer, but advised me of 2 restaurants (Triana and Oum Rabie) which are licensed. Had the offer of bringing my own been an option here, I would most definitely have dined in-house. |You can purchase alcohol from Oum Rabie, which doubles up as an off-licence.|Breakfast was a self service, cold buffet. Perfectly ok, but no offer of cooked dishes, and no table service of hot drinks. Rather disappointingly, the hot water (for making tea) was a flask, its contents lukewarm. No use at all for a good English cuppa!!|To sum up - the odd fail.... but overall, a fantastic stay, aesthetically stunning.
