Very nice stay in this traditional house! The host was very kind and available (and could fluently speek in English), the room was very clean and cozy, good located in the Medina, amazing terrace with view on the city's roofs, great breakfast included in the price. Pity that there was no hot water in our private room (that why the 4 stars and not 5 for the review). We found out only at the end of our stay that we should have wait many minutes for the hot water and that - in case - there were other shared toilets closed to the hall.

We decided to take an overnight trip from Hammamet to Kairouan and were fascinated by the idea of staying overnight in a B&B right in the centre of the old medina. We hade a bit of trouble finding our way with our car - the streets in the medina were definitely not built for cars, but after calling the hostess she turned up and escorted us to their private garage, which they evacuated for us to use! The house is on three floors plus a wonderful roof terrasse with 360 degrees view of the roofs of Kairouan. All guest rooms are on the ground floor and opening up to a lovely atrium with plants and furniture for the afternoon get-together. We stayed in the Suite des filles (the girls' suite), which has a private bathroom/WC en suite and two impressive beds with lace curtains and an ample supply of blanket covers in various designs and materials.||After a quiet night's sleep we entered the first floor breakfast room, where the hostess had laid out a nice breakfast Tunisian/continental style ++ (it turned out we were the only guests in the house that day). Having fortified ourselves on local bread and pastries, we ventured into the labyrinth of the medina and we were fortunate enough to find a local gentleman who took us on an free and improvised tour of the various mosques and other sights. After about one hour we thanked him with a 20 TD tip, which he obviously thought was more than generous...||Plus remarks: The house is a veritable museum, with lots of old furniture, carpets and historical mementos. Central and peaceful location. The hostess speaks French and English.||Minus points: We were not given a house key, and we had to persuade the hostess to allow us to stay out till 22:30! Some of the light fixtures were not functioning, and the bathroom could use a makeover.||ALERT: If you are arriving by car, make sure you contact the hostess in advance and arrange to be met at their garage (three minutes walk from the house)! Otherwise you might spend a lot of time trying to find the place, if you don't get stuck in a narrow cul-de-sac...

We spent 2 nights in the Suite Zakia in April 2019 and everything was prefect and even more! ||The suite was stunning in the old traditional Tunisian style. The bed linens were fresh and clean and everything was there for a good night sleep. The suite was spacious enough and decorated with old style furniture. It was absolutely clean. ||The rest of the house is worth a visit in itself and spectacular. ||Breakfast was served on the rooftop terrace and everything was made fresh and delicious (especially the oranges, the best I've ever had). The lady even went to the market each morning to bring back fresh bread, croissants and donuts. There was definitely enough food for everyone and some more that we took for our day's walk around the city. ||The lady in charge, Madame Feten, is extremely friendly and welcoming and went beyond what we could expect from a guest house host. She even cooked a traditional Tunisian couscous when my kids told her they liked Tunisian food. Added bonus: she can speak English and French as well as Arabic. ||The location of the house couldn't be better: right in the heart of the old medina, a very short walk from the souk/market and the Great Mosque of Kairouan which you can actually see from the roof. Easy to find, parking space available too.||Only one word: PERFECT

This is a lovely B&B in a beautifully maintained historic house in the heart of the medina in Kairouan. The hosts are incredibly accommodating and welcoming, and made us feel right at home. The home-cooked dinner was splendid, as was breakfast.||||The common areas are full of traditional things, the blue and white courtyard is absolutely lovely and must be a refreshing place in summer.||||Our room was spacious and had high ceilings - making it impossible for the little gas heater to have any effect. I slept under a pile of heavy blankets, wore a jacket and scarf through dinner and breakfast, and froze while using the shared bathroom. This simply isn't a place to stay in winter.||||Given the level of discomfort in the cold, I found the price (100 Eur for two people) to be quite steep, especially compared to other traditional houses we stayed at in Tunisia.

Really enjoyed the stay. We booked very late for the same night so was very thankful that they could check us in late and provided tea and cookie after we arrived. The next day’s breakfast was great. And the terrace was amazing and the decorations throughout the house are well thought.

Great visit and we loved the place. BUT do know what you are getting into! If you are looking for an authentic, older home in the center of the Medina, with a friendly, personal (English speaking) manager and a lovely terrace and traditional breakfast, this is the place for you. But if are looking for a luxury property with room service and a spa, this is definitely not for you. The house is quirky and old, which is why it is a unique place to stay.

If you are looking for a real traditional Tunisian accomodation, a block away from the Great Mosque, this should be the place where you stay. A family-run hotel with a hospitality level that is almost hard to believe, the place is clean, spatious and simply wonderful. The bedrooms are beautiful and traditionally furbished, and there is a rooftop terrace with a vista over the whole of the city.||||Mr and Mrs Allani cooked dinner for us one night and it was a real banquet. At the end they joined us to chat and listen to Chaabi music and we all ended up dancing and having a great time.||||Our bathroom was shared but it was no problem since it was low season and the hotel was empty.
