The Best Beaches in Antigua—And Where to Stay Nearby
"A favorite among locals and repeat visitors, Darkwood Bay is about a 25-minute drive from St. John and a little less developed than other popular beaches. Still, the beachfront offers convenient umbrella and chair rentals, along with a few water sports equipment rentals. Get ready to spend a day (or two) gazing out at the glassy water (on a clear day, you can see neighboring Montserrat) or make a lingering lunch stop at Darkwood Beach Bar and Restaurant. Owned by Antiguan locals, the outpost has been serving their popular lobster salad and pina coladas to hungry beachgoers since 1981."
"Pull Up to a Roadside Beach Worth a Visit I generally have a thing against beaches next to the road. Usually, they're unfortunate victims to automotive pollution: obnoxious noises, exhaust fumes, and sneaky greases seeping into everything. Darkwood Beach is different. Sure, it's right on the road on the southwest coast of Antigua , but somehow it escapes the usual woes of roadside sands. Maybe it's because the road is fairly quiet. Or maybe it's the persistent onshore trade winds. Or maybe it's because people care enough to keep the beach clean. Regardless, what you, the traveler, get is a great beach with good swimming and snorkeling, plus a beach bar serving rum and traditional West Indian eats —complete with white plastic chairs in the sand."
Amazing beach, but go across the road for food!
Darkwood Beach is stunning—the nicest sand we’ve found in the Caribbean.
Pro Tip: Buy your drinks from Louanne at the end of the beach they are half the price of the restaurant.
Note: Snorkeling is non-existent (no fish).
WiFi/Food: Connection is extremely poor at the beach, even in the Darkwood restaurant itself but Aunty Cavell’s across the road has excellent WiFi and even better food. Highly recommend her place over the beachfront options!

Yet another great beach in Antigua! Easy parking, either on the road or on a dedicated lot towards the hilly end.
The saline pond on the other side of the road keeps interesting birds around, while rocky formations in the water host small colourful fish and other marine creatures.
The obvious distinguishing component of this beach is the floating inflatable park. We didn't get to play in it, but it does look fun, and I'm sure it's a blast for kids.

Nice beach in the typical Antiguain style, slightly marred by the threat of an inflatable park, though this didn't seem to be in operation when we visited. Fairly easy on road parking by the beach, not to busy on a weekday, though still fairly crowded so if you want a quiet beach better alternatives are available. Large inland wetland bird habit is over the road from the beach.

Of the few beaches I explored in Antigua this has to be my favorite. Beautiful beach, beautiful sand and breathtaking view of the sunset. Across the street there’s also Aunt Cavell’s which has food that is out of this world. Can’t recommend this beach enough.

Great beach for waves. A couple of beach bars on the beach with toilets. Good rum punch. Not so good for snorkeling as the water is not the most clear with no real reef.
Lovely sunsets here with Montserrat in the background.
