10 Best Ski Lodges & Resorts to Stay at Around the World - AFAR

"A sprawling, family-oriented Alpine resort with a new wing stacked with wellness offerings and spacious Family Suites featuring knotty wood paneling and large terraces to accommodate groups and gear. Located at the base of a reliable ski area about an hour from Salzburg, the property includes an expansive family wellness zone with more than a dozen pools—including a three-story waterslide and dedicated kids’ area—and a tranquil adults-only spa with infrared saunas, fragrant steam rooms and multiple thermal baths that look out over the surrounding Alps." - Adam H. DAS EDELWEISS - Salzburg Mountain Resort (Grossarl, Salzburg) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"A rare find that blooms in a rugged, pristine alpine valley — the comparison to the flower is an apt one. Three generations in and going strong, Das Edelweiss Salzburg Mountain Resort is a testament to the Hetteger family’s past mastery. They’ve of course perfected the ski-in, ski-out idiom (including their own ski depot, replete with the latest and greatest), and the après scene is arguably just as opulent. There isn’t a room in the place without a postcard view, and even the most modest of them doesn’t skimp on natural wood and floor-to-ceiling windows for the full effect. For best results, grab a front-row seat to a snowcap sunset in their infinity pool." - Tablet Hotels

AMAZING! If you are looking for a place to enjoy mountains, good food and amazing kids entertainment, search no further. Hotel room was cosy, warm, elegant. Restaurant offer fabulous. The breakfast was beautiful and one of the best we have experienced. The half board offer is wonderful and you have many choices on the day off. And the best, the kids club - it made me want to be a child again. Open from 9am -9pm. All ages have all day activities - crafts, playrooms, movie nights. Our daughter did not want to leave. And while she was having fun, we could do yoga, enjoy the spa or grown up pool or go shopping or hiking. We can only recommend Das Edelweiss. Family owned and run and you can feel the personal touches everywhere.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at the hotel! First of all, the location and views are amazing, combined with lots of facilities for families creates the atmosphere for a real vacation, the pools, rooms and in general hotel design is on a very high level. Second, the food and services, the staff is always welcoming and willing to help and the international kitchen is absolutely fantastic for people who are not in favor of Austrian food. Lastly, the Mercedes experience is an absolute must, we really enjoyed this unique experience. I highly recommend the hotel, we will come back for sure.

Wonderful luxury hotel with a lot of activities and playing areas and pools for the children. |We were 3 families with young children and they especially enjoyed the water slides, also great for a rainy day. |I especially enjoyed swimming every morning early in the sports pool.|Excellent service and amazing breakfast . |Rooms were beautifully designed and comfortable as the whole hotel. |Lovely views of the mountains. |Some of the adults and one child had an amazing experience on an organised e bike tour, by the hotel ,for a few hours.|Definitely recommend this amazing hotel.

This hotel truly lives up to its 5-star reputation across the board. Below are a few key pointers.||Highlights:| • The property is expansive, I genuinely lost track of how many swimming pools there were.| • The food is excellent. The sushi menu, while a bit overpriced, is of outstanding quality and beautifully presented.| • The view from the 4th-floor pool was absolutely stunning.| • The spa is generously sized and thoughtfully designed.| • The hotel strikes a perfect balance between family-friendly and adults-only spaces, ensuring each guest type enjoys their stay without interference.| • The concierge team was incredibly helpful, curating a fantastic itinerary of day trips complete with insightful, local-style guidance. This really made our holiday.| • The rooms are spacious, elegantly designed, and well-equipped. The welcome treats of champagne, fruit, and a chocolate platter were a lovely touch.| • Robes and towels were plentiful and available wherever needed.| • The family spa was reasonably size and our children loved it. It’s quite rare to find such a good one in these sorts of hotels. | • The wine selection is excellent and fairly priced.| • The interior design is beautiful and detailed. They clearly invested in quality rather than cutting corners, and it shows.||Areas for Improvement:| • The large sliding doors in our suite offered incredible views, but unfortunately lacked adequate soundproofing. Traffic noise from the valley was noticeable.| • The room lacked blackout curtains, making it bright as soon as the sun rose.| • The main bar feels out of step with the rest of the hotel’s elegant aesthetic. Its large, backlit shelving resembled something from Ikea and dominated the space. A custom-designed, statement bar would significantly improve the public area.| • Several features in the older kids’ playroom, such as the PlayStation and air hockey table, were broken. Given the cost of our suite, I expected these facilities to be better maintained, especially when travelling with an 11-year-old where working tech makes a big difference.| • More drink and water stations near the pools would be a welcome addition. You become rather thirsty without them.| • The cheese board was excellent and well-curated, but a few additional accompaniments would have made it even better.||In summary, this is a great hotel with only a few minor areas that, if addressed, could push the experience from excellent to exceptional.

We had a pleasant stay at this resort. Outdoor pool area is lovely with gorgeous views and our child really enjoyed the water slides. Pool service was excellent. But over all the experience is a bit lacking and overpriced. 800 euro / night will get you a room with a view to a parking garage roof. Hotel hallways look like hospital with very basic decor. Food was good, but nothing memorable. Lobby is huge, but not cozy. Design is a bit all over the place. Smoking in the wellness areas should be forbidden, especially by the family pool. We had to leave twice because some guy was smoking a cigar (which also takes a while). In summary: don’t regret visiting, will not be coming back.

Feels like being on a cruise ship - beautiful family run hotel. It’s hard to get a sense of the hotel from its website, it feels more like a luxury cruise ship than a hillside hotel. The spa and pools are beautifully done with deck chairs looking onto the valley. For a summer hotel there is limited space outside, and therefore gets extremely crowded outside, but in winter there is a great amount of indoor hang out space. This is a very family hotel, so if you’re looking for a quite romantic stay I would avoid it: there were kids absolutely everywhere, but on that note the hotel is amazing for kids. There is an unbelievable kids club with everything you could dream of having, including an indoor waterpark with water slides. |Rooms are beautifully done, but you need to pay attention to which floor and side, as each are very different - would recommend the higher floors and avoid first floor looking onto the laundry rooms. |Beware when dining, you can be misled to believe food is included only to receive a fairly large additional bill at the end. |Unfortunately you can’t use the cold plunge pool and outdoor hot pool unless you are naked, which is quite unusual. |Overall great stay ||Kids club|300 charge

The hotel is amazing. I was surprised by the interior space. Very nice and cozy interior. Food was excellent and well prepared. The service of the entire staff was great. Kids loved the playground and the indoor aquapark. Even if it's a family hotel, I appreciate the adults only spa&pool areas where adults can relax while the kids play in the playroom.

Loved my stay here. The hotel is new, super clean and stylish. The room was cozy and comfortable. Special thanks to Emma🫰at reception, she was incredibly kind, showed me around with a big smile, and helped me find my way when I got a bit lost in the big hotel🤣🤦🏼‍♀️ The sushi restaurant was great – fresh fish and very tasty. The spa and pools were spotless. One thing to note the SPA Adults only is a nude area, which isn’t mentioned clearly in advance. Not a big deal, but good to know😅 Hope to come back with my whole family next time. Totally recommend – just book early for winter holidays!
