Das Spittelberg

Excellent food and service! We celebrated our micro wedding at "Das Spittelberg" and could not have been happier. The attention from the staff was always great! - from the planning, until the end of the celebration. On the big day, they prepared a beautiful room for us, with excellent service the whole evening. The food and wines were superb! great portions, amazing quality and the taste just amazing.

Eating the most tasteful food in Vienna... this is the place. The entire restaurant takes care of you individually... Yes individually even if you are a group. A must... The client is really The King here. Chapeau and congratulations...

The food was very tasteful. The services seems slow but then you understand that you are there for the food and food is wonderful. The staff is nice. The kitchen is open and very clean.

Since the star chef has moved the price quality ratio has dropped quite considerably. Once a place to go for special occasions and excitement, now a place for good but expensive food.

Great addition in the 7th dist. Austrian food modern interpreted (with sort of an Asian touch) Small selection of draft & craft beer, larger selection of wine. Atmosphere is good (not noisy). None smoking - thanks for that!! Went there with an international group, everyone liked the food & location. Staff is attentive and speaks English (they have English menus as well). Prices are mid-range, portions are a good size (not following this ridiculous large portion trend). Update: A few more visits required to remove one star. Reason is the food quality reduced to being OK but not 4/5 stars. The staff needs to maintain its quality and attentiveness. Still remains a recommendation.

Spittelberg was our "go to" area for many dinners, as our apartment was relatively close by. It's a small district, maybe 4-5 blocks total - located right behind the Museumsquartier and entirely pedestrianized. Back in the day, this was the "red light" district for the soldiers serving the Hofburg palace. Most of the buildings are original, dating from the 18th and early 19th century - so you really get a feel for "old Vienna" here. The streets are cobbled and quiet so you don't feel like you're in the middle of a major city. During the day, there are cute (and pricey) boutiques, shops and art galleries. At night, there are a good number of restaurants and gasthauses to explore. We especially liked Boheme and Witwe Bolt but there are many more to pick from. If you're visiting during the Christmas season, the neighborhood hosts a popular Christmas market in the "village square" area.
