One of the best restaurants in Freiburg! Generations over generations have celebrated from baptism, to birthdays and weddings! We love the Flädlesuppe and the Rahmtöpfle. Best sauces you can get!

Great view of the city. Nice place to get the black forest cake with coffee or have a cocktail. Their meals are quite expensive though. We were able to get a seat without having a reservation. Would recommend after taking the cable car up Schlossberg.

This restaurant of fine German dining has its act together. Definitely worth the experience. Service was attentive and courteous. The ambience is amazing, wonderful view of Freiburg. If possible schedule your reservation 1-1.5 hour before sunset if the weather is right you will not be disappointed. The food flavor was excellent and the meat tender with just right medium preparation. Many compliments to the chef for near perfection! One of the best for sure. Romantic and quiet indoors, open air and cozy outdoors.

We've been at the Dattler a couple of days ago. It was more than great. Although it was a cloudy day the view was breathtaking. The waiters were very polite and quick. The food was on point and very good. 5 stars for everything. I recommend Dattler. Not the last time we've been there. Thanks

Absolutely good experience. I have been here maybe 15 years before but I was well impressed. I admit that we were lucky and got one of the best tables at the terrace. I recommend booking in advance because the terrace was fully booked on Saturday already a day before. The place is well kept but not too formal, the obvious highlight is the terrace with the amazing view on the city. The service was really good, fast and attentive without being intrusive, and at least some waiters speak English. The food is also quite good, quite a twist on typical German foods. Also a wide range if vegetarian and vegan options is available. Prices are in line with the quality, medium-upper range. Will be happy to come back in the future.

There are a lot of customers in this restaurant, so you need to wait. At that time, I couldn't see the Black Forest cake at the scene, and I was very disappointed. But the manager told me that he would take out the finished cake soon, and he would keep a piece for me. So in the end I ate the Black Forest Cake and it was delicious. The cream had a strong cherry wine flavor and the cake was soft.

Ordered the vegan flammkuchen and the Creme brûlée. The dessert came with some sort of lemon ice cream. Extremely creamy and flavourful. The flammkuchen, though good and full of veggies, was a little soggy. However, taking into consideration the breathtaking views, the great service and above average food, it is def a must visit in Freiburg.

The food was okay, definitely not as good as you would expect given the relatively high prices. Service was underwhelming and seemed to be in a rush, taking away plates while we were still eating. The view is really nice and the only nice thing to expect here. The interior was outdated.

Yelp
We had saved Dattler for our last dinner in Germany & we definitively saved the best for last! Be sure to make your reservations ahead of time to get the window tables! Perched high on the mountain, you're offered sweeping views of Freiburg & its surrounding Black Forest, while you get to consume the most delish German gourmet food around. ( Not sure what the other reviewer meant by French food b/c the Mr - who is German - said this was most definitely German cuisine & not French....but what do I know? You should just come here & decide for yourself ) We drove here but there is also a small gondola-type thing that will bring walkers up the hill as well - we got to see it making trips up & down throughout our evening. Also got to see people out walking or playing fetch w/ their dogs in the flowery fields below & w/ Dattler's panoramic windows granting access to the whole valley, we sure felt as if we were in a picture book Appetizers included: Consommé w/ dumplings. Extremely good & the clear meaty broth complimented the little meaty dumplings. Asparagus Mousse w/ Fried Asparagus Spears & Salad. Outstanding! The asparagus was firm & cooked perfectly so that there was still a bit of crunch & no hint of slimy or stringy. Mains included: Risotto - this version was made from white rice & was paired w/ green & white asparagus. Absolutely delish w/ its creamy Parmesan sauce & again, the asparagus was cooked just perfectly Sander (Pike) Fillets w/ Mashed Potatoes for Mom. Beef Entrecôte w/ Frites for Dad. Both said the Frites were the best they had ever had Desserts included: Sorbet Assortment for Daddy - He liked mango best. Lemon & raspberry were also part of the assortment & he liked them as well...but he loved the mango Banana split for Mom. She loved the chocolate sauce. Mr & I got the Nut Ice Cream w/ Eggnog Liquor. Super awesome - we really liked the hazelnut taste w/ the eggnog bite of the liquor Nice cognac to end the evening & see the city lights twinkle

Yelp
Review based on drinks only First if all, this place looks amazing from the bottom of the hill and there is a short, easy hike up or you can take the funicular. We didn't take it but we checked the prices anyway and it is 5€ there & back. It took us 10-15 mins to go up ( including picture time). I was a little hesitant about going in since we were in jeans and had been walking the city all day in the rain and mud because the place looks very nice. To my surprise there were all kinds- men in suits and other travelers like us. The view from inside next to the windows- a phenomenal view of the city! We were in the mood for a glass of wine but since we are both beer drinkers we asked for Help and the waiter asked us a few questions and brought us a Sauvignon Blanc ( dry but fruity) and it may be the best wine I ever had. I peeked at the menu- it is a little more expensive then typical spots-avg 20€ per plate- ( for the view and service it looks like). The prices seemed to be worth it because when we left I noticed nearly every spot reserved.

Yelp
A funicular that takes you partway up the mountain, after which you can walk up another 20 minutes or so to reach a viewing platform. It costs € 2.80 one-way or € 5 return, but there are also family rates. It's absolutely worth it for the spectacular views from the platform (a.k.a. a giant metal tower) which is probably the highest human-reachable spot in the town.

Yelp
This restaurant sits high upon the mountain near downtown Freiburg. It's a bit of trek to get there (you can take a tram up if you're not up for a hike), but it's a great view. The restaurant serves traditional French food. My entire party had the Entrocote and Frites, and all of us loved it. We also had the banana split and creme brulee for dessert, and both were great. Service was a touch slow, particularly in bringing the cheque, but overall friendly and welcoming. I would recommend this restaurant for a good French experience!
