Greatly exceeded my expectations, which were low from reading other reviews. I got a Shrimp Po' Boy, served with fries and cole slaw. The po' boy was 8 huge shrimp, lettuce, tomatoes, thin-sliced onions, served open-faced on a miniature (but quite large) toasted baguette. The shrimp were very lightly battered in a peppery, spicy coating, and, importantly, were not overcooked. If you like your shrimp well done you may think them underdone but I thought they were perfect, succulent and very fresh tasting. The remoulade was served on the side and a generous portion was provided. I don't know what was in it but it was a lot more flavorful than usual.
The fries were probably not house-cut but they were medium-thin, cooked perfectly, and generously salted. And the portion was reasonable: not too large and not too small. The cole slaw was good, slightly tangy and not overly wet. And a good size portion; a peeve of mine is when they serve a "thimble-sized" portion. I couldn't even finish it.
More about portion size: Between the 8 enormous shrimp, the fries, and the slaw I really didn't need the bread. So I saved baguette for another use the next day, ate the shrimp dipping in the remoulade, and the lettuce and other veggies as a salad. More then enough!
They have indoor and outdoor tables, and also an indoor and outdoor bar. I sat outside on a picnic table under an umbrella, then moved later to the outside bar to better hear the music (more on that below). Rather than table service the procedure is place your order at the bar, get a beeper and a drink, then enjoy your drink at the table until the beeper alerts you to go to the pickup area. I have no problem with that and it worked flawlessly and did not take long.
My drinks were margaritas, served with ice in plastic cups. There seemed to be a reasonable amount of tequila in them, and while the mix was probably not fresh-squeezed limes, I thought were well above average, not too sweet, and refreshingly tangy. Even though it was not a real margarita glass they still managed to get a good rim of coarse salt around the edge. So quite good, and appropriate for a seaside venue.
Bartenders, doubling as order takers, were kept quite busy. In spite of that, when I moved to the bar to better hear the music, I was able to talk to one of them and get some of my questions answered about Daufuskie island. I was surprised that two of the three live there; I had assumed that they took the ferry daily like the tourists.
There was a 3-piece band playing most of the time I was there. They were playing a style that I'm going to call "Reggae/Hendrix Fusion". Is that a thing, I wondered? I thought about it for a while, then they played a couple of actual Hendrix tunes and I was vindicated. Young, somewhat inexperienced (some occasional problems with the sound) but it was clear they were enjoying themselves, as was I.
You would not make a bad choice by coming here. (Actually, you don't really have a choice other than bring your own or don't eat. It's the only full-service restaurant on the island!) To make it 5 stars I'd want table service, better drink glasses, and have the umbrellas already raised (I did min myself). All minor concerns though.
