Dave's Cosmic Subs

i haven’t been to Dave’s for a quick lunch in a while but i will if i have to order out quickly and i did this passed Tuesday January 27th 2026, and holy wow… the guy who made my sub did a phenomenal job. it was by far the best sub i’ve ever had from there! i never had my sandwich warm and my GOD did it make a difference! will definitely be going back!

There is one other customer in the store. My Uber Eats order was placed 20min prior and the employees are casually just starting on the order. They told me a few minutes and it has almost been 15. Unprofessional and disrespectful to my time and labor. Learn how to time your orders properly and work fast enough.

$8 for quite possibly the worst sandwich I’ve ever had. 2 slices of chicken breast, shredded cheddar cheese, hot sauce and a spit of Dave’s cosmic sauce. An absolute joke. Stale cookie. Terrible customer service. Don’t eat here. Better off at subway. Shout out subway!

I usually get tasty sandwiches at 𝐃𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐒 𝐂𝐎𝐒𝐌𝐈𝐂 𝐒𝐔𝐁𝐒. This time I got the Far Out Chicken Sub with double juicy chicken. Sriracha Honey chips and cream soda 🤤

I arrived to pick up my catering order 15 minutes prior to my event and they didn’t have my order prepared, they had no way to make it, and offered no solution or way to even get an immediate refund. I was left scrambling to feed 40 people with 15 minutes notice. Awful customer service

I've only ever had good experiences when coming to Dave's Cosmic Sub's. This location (Lakewood) doesn't sell French Fries but I'm not complaining. I came for a sandwich and that's what I got! On too of that they have a few tasty Vegetarian options to choose from. This puts them ahead of Subway and other sub-sandwhich competition. I always say that Dave's is better than most other places because they choose to season their food. All the sandwiches I've ever had have been seasoned and have a unique Davey flavor! Great place to come. They do large orders too, so if you are on a small film set and need to fill a decent sized order with tasty subs (Wayy better than Jimmy John's) then please come here. Your crew will thank you kindly!!

My sandwich was very small, probably half the size of those pictured. My girlfriend wanted hers with no cheese and that didn’t happen. The pickle didn’t seem to be pickled. The biggest issue was with the older bald man in the kitchen yelling at the younger female employee while we were waiting. It was extremely awkward. Bad all around experience. Also my first time so not great. I have to put one star to post this review. I would give 0 if possible

Spicy Dave has plenty of heat. Fresh ingredients drenched in cosmic sauce puts this sub above the competition.

I was so disappointed in our sandwich. It may be because we came right at opening 11am. Our bread tasted day old and there was no seasoning. I think they weren't prepared for us to be there so early but if you say you're open at 11, please be ready. I love the menu options and variety but our sandwiches just tasted like stuff onto bread which any of us can do.

I tried the Dave's original cosmic sub from here on a whim. You know take out is my jam so naturally I got delivery. I was visiting family and didn't know what to order so when in doubt get whatever the restaurant calls "the original." This sub was an Italian classic. The meat and cheese was good quality. There was shredded mozzarella that actually had flavor so you know it was better than just the bagged stuff you buy yourself at the store. The Italian dressing worked well with the crusty fresh bread. The banana peppers were added to the side which was odd so they kept falling out but I think there was just lots of food packed in. If I am ever looking for a sub place again around the area I would recommend!

I was excited to try a Cleveland spot! I went in torn between the meatball sub and the pizza sub, the employee was great and helped me decide. All together for a drink, chips, and sub combo I paid $11! Quite a steal! The food came out rather quick, and of course fresh! I sat in their limited seating area while I waited, but I wish they had an indoor seating area, I would have loved to enjoy the restaurant aesthetic here! Ultimately I took home the meatball sub, which was surprisingly spicy! It was a good sub, but nothing special outside of the spice factor. I wanna go back and try another sub!

I feel embarrassed by Dave's. I regularly rave about the subs but I am consistently let down. Without the special Dave's sauce, these are no better than Jimmy Johns or Potbelly. But the folks making the subs clearly have not been trained on the proper sauce to sub ratio and they are underwhelming. Sorry. Maybe the strategy is to order sauce on the side.

Good as always but yall did change the Italian roll at the Lakewood location... doesn't destroy the roof of your mouth as much but honestly not as good

The staff was friendly, and the price was great! My friend and I got hot subs and they got them to us pretty quickly as well. It was unexpectedly spicy and I don't know if I'd put their cosmic sauce on every sub like they do but not a bad spot - and a Cleveland original!

Mediocre sandwich shop with a disappointing pickle. I always base any sandwich shop off of their most Famous or most Ordered sandwich on their menu. I ordered the #1 Original Cosmic Dave's Sub - Regular. It had plenty of meat on it but it was incredibly lacking in the taste factor. The sauce gave it a little more zing but even that seemed like it had something missing in it. Next time I will ask what is the most ordered Sub and request it to be made hot. Hopefully that will accentuate some of the flavors and make it a better experience. Oh - and the pickle was probably the most tasteless, disappointing pickle I've ever eaten. I love pickles. I'm always overjoyed when I get Spears. This one left me in despair. I didn't even finish it. If you can't get your pickle right, it's a no go for me.

Service is lousy. I ordered 7 subs and asked them to cut them into thirds so a group could share. They said no problem. I asked again when I picked them up and they said yes, they cut them...but they didn't. I asked for mayo packets on the side, which most sandwich shops have and they refused. They weren't very friendly. The subs were ok. Will not go back.

If you like hair with your sandwich, I guess this is your place... This place sucks. My Sloppy Dave had a hair in it, so I called and asked for a refund/replacement. The young girl was very flustered and told me she would speak to her manager and call me back. 30 minutes later, I decided to call back. At this point, I had also found another hair!!!! She told me that the manager had yet to respond, and at work the next day she would be with him and they would discuss it. I received no call back the next day. So I tried calling again and I was brushed off, AGAIN. This time by a far less apologetic, hurried-me-off-the-phone, borderline rude man by the name Mark (Marc?). He told me I had to just wait until the manager called me back. Ummmm I am not holding my breath, but maybe I'll call again tomorrow since this is b.s. Get a damn hairnet!!!

The Lorain ave and downtown Cleveland location are always out of tuna .... Lorain ave drink machine is usually down too . Always ask about if subs are hot or cold . I wasn't told my alternate selection came hot after I was once again told no tuna ... they wouldn't refund or replace with another sandwich at downtown location so I was stuck with basically a melt style sandwich I didn't want ... wanted a cold sub

My ultimate go to! Great service and food. I've ordered here well over a 100 times and I've maybe had one mistake on an order which I couldn't remember what it was if I tried. People that leave negative comments for minuscule mistakes should leave Yelp NO SOUP FOR YOU!

I ordered a #28 hot. My husband picked it up. Not hot cheese wasn't melted and missing items. I called and they said they would remake it. Then my husband goes to pick it up and they want to charge him. Girl never said that on the phone. I call them and owner asks what I want and tell him the problem all over again. Mind you it's almost 3:30 and I haven't eaten lunch yet. My husband got frustrated that they were giving us such a headache. Good customer service is making an order right and if you don't, remake it! And don't try to charge the person. Shame on the owner!!!! I will never return!

Let's start with the fact that I always love a good turkey sub. I came here after a botched attempt at getting my blood drawn meaning I hadn't ate in over 12 hours and was about to cry in anticipation. Pro: they have 27 options. Con: when you're so hungry you could cry it's hard to read through 27 options. I asked the woman working there what her favorite one was and she listed three for me. I picked the Grateful Dave because it had turkey and some type of hot pepper sauce. Service was fast and polite. The inside is a little dingy and dirty looking. As in there is one folding table inside so if you're looking to eat in I would look elsewhere. I wanted to love this place, and it was good- but not as good as I wanted it to be. I will say the daves special sauce is phenomenal. They also have a ton of chip options to go with it which I wish I would have looked at before I said no. Anyway, the way the toppings were with how shallow the bread was meant the fillings kept shooting out the top and I was basically left with a bread/sauce taco. I liked how the bread tasted but it was very crusty which definitely made the sandwich hard to eat. Additionally, my pickle was pretty, how do I say this, waxy? I love pickles and usually don't discriminate (except for sweet pickles, sorry guys) and I threw most of this one away. Another thing I thought was odd was the fountain drinks were the same price as the bottled sodas ($1.70) I don't know about you but for somewhere I'm not getting free refills at I feel like that's a little steep for a fountain drink. I've gotten 32 oz for $0.60 pretty regularly so that irked me AND it was flat. All and all it cost me about $10 for my sub, a drink, and a $1 tip. I wish they would throw a little money in making this less divey on the inside. I love a good hole in the wall but this doesn't fit that bill. Will try again because I love how many options they have and I love supporting local businesses

There is something special about Dave's Cosmic Subs. Everything from the pickle delicately tucked in the paper, to the sauce, to the Italian seasonings, to the fresh cheese, to the pickled veggies, to the fresh meats, to the bread. Best subs in Cle. Huge variety too.

While I normally love Dave's cosmic subs, this location is the worst. Rude staff and ownership, no customer service, would not come back to this location again

I've had Dave's plenty of times first time review. Dave's brings a quality sandwich at a descent price. I ordered their crazy Dave voted "#1" sandwich in Cleveland. Dunno by who but that's what it says on their menu. Starting with the bread this is the worst part of the sandwich only sandwich shop with worse bread is subway. The bread is just way to hard and ends up scratching your mouth. Only meats were prosciutto and capicola quality cuts. The hot peppers were perfect little spice add and Dave's cosmic sauce is delicious. Over all 7/10 losing points just because of the bread.

The bread here reminds me of Captain Crunch cereal ... pretty good but not worth scraping the shit out of the roof of your mouth. I've tried a few different subs here, not bad but again , the bread keeps me from coming back. I also get a super weird vibe from one of the guys that works at this location. Not sure if he's the owner or what but he's got a horrible temperament.

They gave me green Tomato's , ignored every ingredient sub I put and then hung up on me when I tried to ask for a manager , I demand a response

Service was rude to uncaring at best. Nothing at all special about their subs. Shredded cheese on a cold sub equates to losing 1/2 the cheese in the wrapper. Had heard positive things about their food , was very disappointed. Only tried the Dave's original

I honestly can say that I like the food here. But...I can't help but say that I ordered a Crazy Dave and for whatever reason they forgot the prosciutto. Mistake? Maybe. Who knows. But for the most part they make great food.

Ok where to begin, well I went to the Crocker Park location and realized it wasn't the place I had intended to dine. My friend and I thought what the hell, let's give it a try. We walk into a very tie dyed place that seems like it caters to regulars. I order the number 14, a hot tuna sub with melted cheese. For the amount I got for the the price I payed I could have walked to Giant Eagle and gotten a Lb of tuna salad and made a better sub myself at home in my pajamas in front of the tv Onto the quality of the sub. It was sub par, the bread was hard like it had been stored for a day or so before they heated it up. The tuna salad was ok, but who puts melted cheddar on tuna salad?? There was more lettuce on the sub than tuna and as I learned from cooking myself and watching food network, every bite of a sandwich should be the same, they broke this rule. Finally to end it off, while the staff was polite, they seemed very casual like it was their house, no visible name tags or hats. I just don't think this is my kind of place, I'll be going to jimmy johns or making my own subs at home As a side note. The menu on the wall looks like one huge license plate. There is no indication of how big a normal or large sub is, no calorie counts for the people who wanna use a weight app to help portion the subs

This place is great! Dave's has the best subs in the area. The people are always friendly and everything tastes fresh every time I have ordered from there. I have tried something different each time and what really separates them from the rest is the bread. I love the crust. Thanks again fr a great sub!

Had a coupon burnin' a hole in my pocket for this place and I wanted to give it a go so I stopped in one afternoon before work. When they say "11am"...they mean 11am. Not a minute sooner. By the 4 people milling about, outside I would say that's a good sign. The kid whom took my order had the personality of a turkey baster. Watched the kid making the subs microwave all the meat that was being used. Kinda bummed me out for what they charge for these puppies. Nevertheless, these were some damn good subs! Im not usually a sub guy. About as fun as a colonic but these subs are so good, I would eat them DURING a colonic...

My favorite sub shop. They have awesome crusty bread with a light and airy center. The staff is great and plenty of parking behind it. Why can't all Dave's do it this well?

They have decent sandwiches and are a local chain. The menu is varied and the sandwiches all have names. Oozing with cleveland "rock n roll capitol of the world" pride. It's a bit kitchy, to be honest, but if you have friends from out of town who really love touristy stuff, you could take them there, although you wouldn't really be able to sit if the one card table they use for guests who decide to eat there is occupied. One thing I did not know, until today, was that their hot subs only come in one size, "regular", so if you order a "large" they will just make you two, and then charge you for two. Which is a lot different from the usual concept of large, as well as considerably more expensive. As a customer, it would be good to know about this before you go to order a large and end up paying almost $14 for a sandwich.

I love Dave's. I have a long history of loving subs and Dave's doesn't disappoint. The Turkey Dave. No rubber, watery turkey lunch meat. Always fantastic & fresh, their special sauce is amazing. I only eat tuna at Dave's. The Dave's Tuna is spiced & mayo'd just right. I crave Dave's & usually get a party tray during the year for parties. Love the pickles. I've been eating Dave's since they opened downtown & the Lakewood location is greater for weekend dinners to pick up for movie nights.

I'm a firm believer in giving any new place I try a second chance. So after a first try fail a few months back we gave Dave's another go tonight. Still unimpressed. I got the Hey Dave. Just a basic roast beef, cole slaw, Swiss, and some special sauce. Should be a pretty good sammy! Well, it was alright. Nothing special to reflect the premium pricing or the boasting of being the best sandwich shop in Cleveland. One bite of the pickle and it went straight to the trash. It was intolerably salty. There was no other flavor layer. Pure salt. Throughout the bread was a layer of two slices of roast beef. Two. Like Subway style. The rest of the sandwich was then stuffed with the coleslaw, lettuce, and the proprietary sauce. All three of these items were okay. But I like coleslaw on my sandwiches. I don't like coleslaw sandwiches. Down to the bread. It seems like it's made fresh which is awesome but maybe not stored properly? We ordered later in the day. The outside had a nice crunchy crust to it but the inside had no soft chew to offset it. It ended up being just flakey and dry throughout. Thank goodness for all that coleslaw and sauce! It's an indie business and clearly people really like it which I always like to see. But I just feel that for what they charge, it should be a little bit better. It's just not for me I guess.

Dave's is great. Solid choices and a great sub sauce make this place unique. Always consistently solid bread, toppings, and quality. Don't forget to refrigerate the sauce if you take one home.

Came in asking for a Turkey Dave. The gentleman at the register told who I learned was the owner (the person preparing my sandwich) I'd like it with no cheese and toasted. The owner claimed the order taker did not communicate this. I then confirmed to the owner he did. This is about 7 minutes later. Owner throws the sandwich against the wall towards the trash, begins a new sandwich, but neglects to close the oven. I tell him this, he tells me, "It's fine dude, relax." I ask for the name of the guy and the person at the register tells me he doesn't know. He then tells me he's the owner. They then take another 10 minutes to get back to me, at which point I ask for my money back. 5 more minutes, at which point the owner comes and is super confrontational because I asked, goes, "What's the problem?" I tell him, he at first tells me to take my change and go, I remind him the money on the counter is the change I was given, he jams open the register gives me my $20 and slams the register shut. As I'm leaving he calls me an asshole! Owner is a small white bald dude with some serious issues. Buyer beware.

I ordered a reuben, they messed it up, didnt apologize, and called me petty. Linda the manager, she is also the owners wife hung up on me twice and told me if i wanted to call their corp office i could find the number myself. I WILL NEVER BUY FOOD FROM THEM AGAIN. THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS i will post the video so u can see for yourselves

Amazing gluten free bread!! I've been craving a sub for a while and I noticed they had gluten free bread available. They assured me it was dairy free as well! I got the original with no cheese and it was delicious! The staff was also willing to help me out with any questions I had. Will definitely be going back to try more gluten free subs!

First time trying , and I loved it. It's hard to find a fresh sandwich place. I will defiantly be back!!

One of my all time favorite sub shops. Wish they had one in NC. I always get the Dave's Original. Yum!

I am visiting Cleveland for the All Star Game and was told Dave's subs were great. I went to the one in Lakewood today and ordered a "Super Dave". I was served exactly one razor thin slice of pastrami and one razor thin slice of corned beef. Half the microscopic amount of meat was fat and gristle. The rest of the sub consisted of a scoop of cole slaw and some sauce. Needless to say I was quite disappointed and strongly urge the hungry consumer to STAY AWAY.

I like the sandwiches and the selection, but the bread is pretty bad. I sometime cut the roof of my mouth on it. ouch. I usually get the classic dave or whatever it's called.

So all this talk of Cosmic Brownies on the message board led to me researching who was more cosmic. Was it Little Debbie or Dave? Seeing as how Dave is the heir to the Seaway food fortune(on the website look it up), i had my doubts. I've always seen these places around, but the hippy dippy Janis-Jim Morrison vibe kind of put me off. But they sent me coupons in the mail, and a coupon= purchase. I got a free 8" sub with the purchase of a regularly priced one. That's $6 worth of free food! The Haight Ashbury looked good, but the name conjured up images of barefoot idiots dancing madly in circles to Ekoostik Hookah at Nelson's Ledges. So i got the Veg Out. It had mushrooms,artichokes, and other veggie delights in a zippy sauce. Highly recommended for vegetarians. I also picked up a Tuna Dave which is your basic tuna sandwich. It was kind of small, but had extra flavor compared to a Subway tuna. The shop on Detroit is tiny and sort of reminds me of a storefront one would find in a college town like Athens, Columbus or Austin. I dig that. Dude working there had a rock and roll look and a Spitfire Grill trucker hat. I bet his life is way more interesting than mine. Wait, was that sarcasm? I'm not sure anymore.... I also approve of all the psychedelic poster reprints on the walls. They are nice for novices to look at. Myself, being a connoisseur of such artifacts, was not completely floored by the selection. I may sound snotty, but when you start pillaging the 60's aesthetic to make money, i'm going to be more critical. So as far as the cosmicness, i don't know. But the sandwich is a better deal than Subway any day.

A little pricey for what you are getting, I tend to be a subway fan overall. Nonetheless the subs are good. Don't plan on eating while you are there. This location and their Westlake location have little to no seating. A few tables at best. The rock memorabilia is nice to look at while you wait. This place seems to be a little forgettable though. I haven't been there in some time.

Dave's cosmos is literally the best sub shop I have ever been to for many reasons. Their food is delicious, the bread is crisp, and fast too! It's always a plus that it is a local sub shop. I usually order delivery and they NEVER disappoint! The staff have always been super friendly and let's not forget that the food is awesome!!!

Currently waiting on my food and I'm writing my review while in the shop because that's how bad the customer service was. Amazing food, my favorite sub shop, but the girl at the register needs a customer service lesson. I said please and thank you, was very kind, and she just looked blankly at me and said nothing. I'm in both customer service and the service industry and I'm appalled. She made me feel incredibly uncomfortable, and that's not cool if you're gonna be dealing with the public. You don't have to kiss my ass, but at least be nice and polite?

Right to the point: tasty subs at reasonable prices. I've never left Dave's disappointed either in Lakewood or Coventry.

Just moved to Lakewood and Dave's was highly recommended. Tried the Crazy Dave. It was super spicy, and super delicious.

You guys are awesome! Wandered into your place after hearing rave reviews from other conference goers and was pleasantly surprised. I'm not big on subs, but you guys won me over with your Dave's Bleu, cool guys taking/making my order, and the outstanding character of the place. A very Haight/Ashbury vibe which I'm not too into, but can definitely appreciate.

I normally don't like pickles but don't believe the people that hate their pickles. I absolutely love them. In fact it is the only pickles I eat.

UNBELIEVABLY FANTASTIC!!! The Tuna Dave and hot dogs are just incredible!!! I crave the subs on a daily basis. The bread is outstanding and the subs are jam-packed full of quality. It is expensive, but in my opinion, worth it!! There is hardly room to sit inside and never a place to park which is a real pain in the rear. I usually have to park relatively far away and walk, but again, it is worth it!! That is how friction' great these subs are!!!!

OUTRAGEOUS The best most fantastic sub you will ever eat. Never go anywhere else, nothing will compare. The special sauce will blow your mind. A W E S O M E. oh, and the pickles are fantastic as well.

Was not impressed with the sub I had at the Westlake location, but Lakewood redeemed my opinion. Corned beef and pastrami was good but the sauce made it great.

Good bread. Courteous service. A bit pricey, but I'll pay that price to support a local business. Just put the right sub in the right bag next time. These things happen, just thought they should know.

Went here for lunch and tried one of the chicken subs. Overall thought it was a fairly nice deal for the price; although definitely felt it could have used more overall...better bread, fresher tasting toppings, and more flavorful sauces. I also remember there was a lot of pepper for some reason.
