I liked the taste specially the halibut, special sauce and the sweet coleslaw salad. Very professional and welcoming staff. The place is a bit old and a renovation might definitely help and take it to a next level but still well cleaned.

Went there Aug 1 with my kids it was super busy but didn't wait long for a table. We all had fish with different sides. The staff was friendly, it took a long time for us to get our food as well and it wasn't really hot, just warm, they also didn't come back to check on us after we got our meals to see how everything was, but again was super busy. I have to say with all the reviews I thought the fish was going to be better but it wasn't, imo the fish had way to much better on it that I couldn't taste the fish at all, disappointing as i really love fish and chips :( but maybe its just my taste buds. I also felt it was a little pricey for what we got.

Google
Cute fish & chips restaurant at Stevetson Richmond. Fish and chips are good👍 Calamari fries are not that fresh. Servers are kind. I loved the atmosphere with old neighbor’s gathering and friendly talks sound.

Google
It was a good place! We ordered two halibut and two codfish, my boyfriend preferred the halibut, but I really liked the cod. Everything was super fresh, and I loved it. The Caesar salad was just okay, but the service was amazing! Update went there with my fam , they also loved it!

Jessica Fearer

Google
Dinner was delicious and our server was very nice. The homemade clam chowder was the best, loved the fresh fish and fries too

Google
Great fish and chips - plus great beer options! The halibut, cod and salmon are all well battered, flaky and compliments the skin on chips (fries) perfectly!

Google
Great place away from the busy harbor for quality fish & chips. Service is great, batter is pretty rich, fish fresh and beer standard.

Google
Went here for lunch today, we were lucky enough to get a seat before the rush. The food was freshly made and had a decent portion. I felt that the food was alright but overpriced.

Yelp
Serving Richmond since 1978! Awesome classic fish and chips and their other menu items are also great. Service is awesome, and they can fill up fast during peak times. Pricing is fair and portions are decent. Great place if you're a visitor or local, and very dependable quality.

Yelp
The crunchiest fish n chips ever! Our waitress was super nice. The restaurant is clean. Street parking is free for 3hrs (if you can find any)

Yelp
One line review: solid. We were in the mood for fried fish. Lots and lots of fried fish. We decided to head to Dave's, where we had eaten years ago. - We ordered: the First mate's plate and chips X2 - Caesar salad Good portions, well fried, not overdone. Service was friendly. Parking was free on the street around the corner, but they have a small private lot, also free. Bottom line: Good for fish and chips.

Yelp
I've been coming here every year for at least 30 years every time I visit Richmond. Good size pieces of clean, tasty battered, crisply fried fish. The fries could be a little hotter and cooked a little longer for my tastes, but I'm Extremely picky about chips. Service was the only miscue; I was never asked how my meal was or if i wanted a drink refill despite other tables receiving that attention. I will continue coming back for a consistently good meal.
google avatar

Yelp
We had the fried clams and also the cod fish. The fried clams as you might be able to tell from the photos were a bit over fried. They were sweet but a bit too chewy. Much better with the lemon The fish was crispy but the cod was again a bit overcooked. The fish was almost rubbery. The tartare sauce was okay Service was really friendly - not fast but really friendly and nice. Would come back to try their other items

Yelp
Went at lunch time on a Friday. The service was relatively quick despite 2 other groups being there. Our waitress offered to take a picture of us without prompting. I love how the place is decorated! Huge fan of the paintings around the restaurant. It does have a bit of Krusty Krab vibes. The orange creamsicle I ordered was good but nothing extraordinary. Clam chowder was super tasty. I've only ever had fish and chips at White Rock before and this is definitely better. I ordered the cod fish and chips. You could totally share the meal between two as the portion is rather large. The batter is light and well seasoned. I appreciate that it is not very greasy and it maintains a good crunch. The fish is nice and flaky on the inside. I thought it was a good batter to fish ratio. The slaw was delicious. If I'm being honest, I'm not the biggest fish and chips fan as I'm quite picky about fried food in general. But if you're in Steveston, it's only right that you get fish and chips and I think I made the right choice eating here. Would recommend!

Yelp
A great spot for some fresh fish & chips in Richmond around Stevenson Fisherman's Wharf. Been here a few times and the food and service never disappoints. When you come here, definitely get the cod or salmon fish & chips!

Yelp
We've had food from here several times so it can't be that bad but whoever ran the store on the weekend of Canada Day 2023 need to plan better. Out of product, over cooked and tasteless chips, scraps of fish (over cooked despite waiting an hour for it (40 mins agreed and 20mins over that). Very disappointing and you'll need to do much better to survive. It'll be a while until we come back.

Yelp
my friends and I ordered one piece fish and chips (4 of us total) - we waited 45 minutes for order to come. I ordered tea and the only tea they had chamomile. Really! The fish I got was two tiny pieces and my friends fish were similar and onion rings I'm sure came out of a freezer bag. Also, they didn't take names when you came in and a lot of us were waiting. We live in Steveston and used to come here all the time. No more. What happened?

Sydney O.

Yelp
I'm assuming the restaurant is just as bad as the take out since it's the same restaurant. Even though I asked if there was peanut oil used, I still had an allergic reaction to the fried foods. When my family asked the person at the front just shrugged their shoulders. Thankfully I know the taste and had my medical bag. But good news if you DONT have a peanut allergy, great value for what you get, big portions, and outdoors was a good ambiance. My dad said the food was delicious.

Yelp
It was a sunny spring day and we wanted to find a nice a lot to sit outside and have some great fish and chips. Initially we were going to the old reliable, Pajo's but couldn't find parking anywhere close by, and happened across Dave's. The line up only took about 15 mins to get through. They allow one person to go inside and order. The prices are very reasonable and they have several choices, besides fish and chips, such as chicken strips, burgers, oysters, prawns and scallops. There are several tables to the left of the restaurant outside, but of course those are busy, so you'll want to keep an eye out to nab one when you can. We got the fish basket, which includes two pieces of fish (you can choose cod, salmon or halibut with different price ranges) 2 fried prawns, 2 fried oysters and 2 fried scallops. It also comes with fries, tartar sauce and red seafood sauce. It came hot and crispy, not soggy at all. The batter is really tasty and the fish was fresh and moist, not too oily. I loved the scallop as well, it tasted so good, fresh, and you could really taste the scallop. The oyster and prawn were also really good and fried perfectly. The fries were ok.....a little dry but using up the provided malt vinegar helped! We will definitely come back when we are having a fish and chip craving!

Yelp
Consistent food. Good price. Nice staff. And clean surroundings. I recommend it. Doing one of these reviews is ridiculous. They want too many words.

Yelp
Great service and delicious halibut and chips! Lived in Vancouver for 37 years and have never been here! Will be back for sure!

Susan B.

Yelp
We have always loved Dave's. Even today, the fish was very good. The fries were cold but they brought us new ones. The problem I have now is this restaurant has become really dirty. I am not sure what has happened but I doubt I will be back because of the lack of cleanliness. Truthfully, get a cleaner in. Repaint the walls. The food is too good to have such a dirty place. I would not take guests there. Sorry for the bad review, I usually write good ones.

Paul M.

Yelp
Shrinkflation has hit hard. The batter on the fish for their fish and chips probably remains the best in Steveston. The serving size of the the last time I went was 20-25 % of what it was 4 years ago. Just not worth it anymore!!!!

C B.

Yelp
They have gluten free options, but it is not safe for those with celiac disease. My son was horribly glutened, after many assurances from the server about a dedicated gluten free fryer and the safety of the gluten free food.

Suzi D.

Yelp
This used to be our go to fish n chips. however, when they had an ownership change and fired their over 20 year employee for taking sick time. Everything has gone downhill. I have never seen a tinier piece of fish on a plate. It was the size of two french fries. the service is so slow they're not taking names at the front door so they have no idea who's next. We sat for over an hour waiting 45 minutes to get fish and chips is ridiculous. Ordered onion rings, and they tasted like they came out of a bag out of the freezer not homemade at all, very bland. The tartar sauce tasted like it came out of a package as well. I think instead of using fresh fish they are now using frozen pieces from the freezer. Very disappointing on top of that we asked for a split bill and he looked so confused and refused to do it. There are no options for tea and ran out of most beer on the menu. it's really too bad. The old owner who has passed away named Dave really had a fantastic product and a great place. The new owners have a lot to learn.

Yelp
Came to try the fish and chips as that's the thing to do if you're in Steveston right!? Overall-decent fish and chips, tartare sauce was great. I wouldn't say it was the best fish and chips I've ever had, but it was definitely good and I'd visit again. They have a order window and optional seating. Orders were a bit slow to come out during busier times as they also do take out orders over the phone -but that's expected.

Anna T.

Yelp
First visit to Dave's from a recommendation, being the oldest fish n chips in Steveston. The interior is very casual. The dining room was larger and had more tables than I expected which was nice. The server was eager and helpful. I did find the portions a tad smaller than expected. The portioning of chips was not very consistent as my husband's order had significantly less chips, to his disappointment. Tasty meal though!

Mahshid G.

Yelp
I've been going to Dave fish and chips for the last 14 years and I loved it but today we got the worst experience there from the food to the services!we never go there again or recommend it to anyone.

Derek G.

Yelp
I dined in with my 4yr old son for lunch mid week. We ordered a one piece halibut and chips and an order of onion rings. Fantastic fish and chips! The fish wasn't overly battered and cooked perfectly. The chips were crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside and the onion rings were light and crispy. The service was great, we were the second or third table to sit down as we showed up just after they opened. Before we got our food the place was almost full. The young lady manning the front handled everyone with style and grace and the kitchen staff were even out delivering food and helping with orders. 10/10 would recommend you go and try it out for yourself.

Yelp
The prices were very reasonable for Steveston area. The restaurant filled up rather quickly for a cold Wednesday afternoon in March. The food came out quickly and was hot and fresh tasting. The portions were of average size. The Tiger prawns were the best part of the Meal. I ordered the first mates platter with a bowl of clam chowder instead of fries. Today they were out of halibut so I got the salmon. The salmon was a good choice. The clam chowder was a tad on the salty side for my liking so next time I'll try the fresh cut fries & halibut. I recommend to try this place when your in Steveston.

Yelp
We have been twice now and really enjoyed our meal. My wife and I split the 2 piece cod and chips and really enjoyed it. We aren't 140 years old, so we don't normally split our meals, but we found the portions sizes here to be perfect to split and share. Crispy fresh fish, fresh cut chips, great service, crunchy and perfectly cooked batter that is not overly oily. Great place.

Yelp
My British parents have been going to Dave's Fish and Chips probably since they opened. This last time that they went is now the last time they will ever go. The food was disgusting and they feel completely ripped off. The fries were soggy, the fish was overcooked, and the batter was greasy. It appears the new management has no idea what British fish and chips are like. What a shame. My mom is 76 and this restaurant was her treat she would look forward to.
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
Good place for fish and chips when you want to sit down and enjoy the food. There are other places but if the weather isn't nice, you wouldn't want to be eating outside. We had ordered soup and a 2 piece fish combo. The fish was good and flaky, the batter was done well. The place is clean and the staff were quick and courteous.
google avatar

Lauren L.

Yelp
Just wanted to do an update here. Steveston is a place know for its Fish and Chips. With so many places to go to and try fish and chips. How do you decide which place to go? Sure theres Pajo's but when it's rainy and cold you probably don't want to dine outdoor. There are some places in the wharf that you could go. But when the girls want to get a quick lunch and some decent pieces of COD or halibut or salmon. We often go here. Usually when we have a craving for something fried. Service has always been good. Once in awhile we'll see a salty old dog sitting at a table keeping to himself.. a real seafaring man that would suit a corn pipe and an anchor tattoo on his biceps. That's when you know you're in a fishing village.

Colby H.

Yelp
We come from Colorado on vacation and Dave's has always been a fav...not anymore. Horrible service, way too long of a wait after we were seated, greasy fish and awful calamari. So so so disappointing-won't be back for a very long time
google avatar

Heather T.

Yelp
Good place to eat when you're wandering around in the area. The staff were extremely friendly. The fish and chips tasted great, everything was very fresh. The calamari was alright since I prefer the ones made by other restaurants. Definitely recommend sharing since the portions don't look that big but they are quite filling.

Monica P.

Yelp
This place used to be better in terms of service but seems like they are now under new management. They greeted us right away when we came in but didn't feel very welcoming (cold reception and no smile at all). There were 5 of us and they sat one of us at the end of the table. It wouldn't be so bad except there was a large group eating at the table beside us and their stroller was partially blocking the aisle. Once we were seated, the entire aisle is now blocked and there was no way to get to the washrooms. The person at the end tried to move as closely to the table as possible and people tried to squeeze through. The stroller was folded and place out of the way. I'm not sure why they thought seating us there would be a good idea. There was another table available in the back. We didn't get menus right away, waited 5 minutes. Seemed like there were only 2 people working the floor and only one was actively taking orders. Server wrote our food order down (still not smiling) but we waited a good 25-30 mins for them to arrive. There was little to no-care taken when placing the food at our table. A side order of coleslaw was forgotten so we had to ask for it. We asked for side plates and got dinner plates instead. Seemed like the server didn't know what side plates were because they were confused when I asked if they had side plates. Didn't come back to check on us, they were very dismissive and we had to wave them down when we wanted to pay. They left the debit machine at our table, we paid and they didn't come back for a few minutes. The server came back asking if we paid. We said yes. They asked where our receipt was because they were skeptical that we didn't pay because we didn't get a receipt. We don't know why their machine didn't print a receipt. We had to show proof of purchase through another form. Luckily we used ApplePay and the app showed the transaction. If the server just stayed until the payment was made, we wouldn't feel like were being treated like criminals. They weren't even apologetic at all. The food seemed the same as before so that's a consolation. Hopefully, the new owners don't try to change the recipes or we may never come back again. The ambiance seemed a little hectic and very stressful which is understandable as there were more tables than the server(s) can handle. They tried their best to clean tables and take dishes to the kitchen but lacked in the normal customer service like checking how the patrons are doing. We've been at Dave's many times before where there was only 2 servers and the place was busier and we received better service then. A little smile can go a long way.

Yelp
Great Fish & Chips! Beautiful battered Cod- my favorite! The fries were fresh and hot, great tartar sauce and fresh coleslaw. The server was very pleasant and the food came out quickly. We have been here many times over the years, and will continue to come back. Way to go, Dave's- you're the best!

Stephen P.

Yelp
I think we must have a new owner here. My wife had two pieces of cod one was firm one was overcooked been to this restaurant, so many times little things seem so have changed . Service was just ok. Seemed very surprised we asked for ice water. My chair was 1 inch shorter on one leg kept rocking back-and-forth saw another customer with the same problem I went and got him a new chair. Next time I'll just try a different fish and chip place in Steveston
google avatar

Yelp
Recommended by a few colleagues. Steveston has a bit of street parking but Dave's has its own out back. The calamari appetizer ($7.95) was a fairly small portion size. It was tasty, wonderfully seasoned and the calamari itself was average. Nothing to rave about. The real winner was the fish and chips. Had the 2 cod pc and chips ($18.95). HUGE pieces of cod which flaked perfectly and did not separate easily from the batter. Batter was golden, crispy and tasty. Really enjoyed their tartar sauce as well which had a bit of a tang to it. Fries look pale and soggy but were not bad, somehow still had a bit of a crunch to them. Would come back for the fish!

Helen S.

Yelp
Sloppily run business. Does not honour stated business hours of 11am to 8pm daily. I called to order take-out. Staff member told me, "We are not taking telephone orders at this time. You have to come in." OK. I got there 20 minutes later (that's how long it takes me to drive to Steveston). I was there by 7:30. Staff member told me they are not taking anymore orders. "But you told me to come in!" He answered they had stopped taking orders after I called. After reading Nadia R's review,, I'm glad I didn't order from them. They won't see my money ever again, and I will warn others to avoid.

K D.

Yelp
Took 25 minutes for take out order of one small order of fries. Asked tor a bag to carry, young girl dropped paper bag on counter. Food was cold by then. Disappointing.

S L.

Yelp
I've had takeout here twice already this summer. Discovered this restaurant while hanging out at the wharf with a friend in June. There were so many choices in this neighborhood for fish & chips but I had a good feeling about this one. They have a take-out section on the side of the restaurant where the parking lot is. There's a counter, bench and condiments. Server was friendly and attentive. Didn't have to wait long, 15 mins. A short stroll to the wharf & back did the trick. Upon arriving home, food was still warm. I got the two piece cod with fries. Cod was nicely battered, thick crispy outside and flaky on the inside. Pieces were a good size. Fries were thick cut, a bit crispy and filling. Tartar sauce was chunky. My family and I were pleased. Hence I went back a second time this month for more. Two orders of the same dish & everything was just as great!

Foxy B.

Yelp
Haven't had Daves for awhile but last night ordered takeout & can honestly say it was the best halibut fish & chips have had in a long time! Fish was more fish than batter& chips were a good size, not just little pieces like some restaurants. Will definitely be ordering from Daves from now on

Kathy W.

Yelp
I had the halibut fish n chips. They were excellent. Crisp, not soggy and greasy. The place has a cute harbor feel. The staff was friendly and the place was nice and clean.

Yelp
This is the best!!!perfect halibut and chips. great cold GI a lager. Warm and beautiful staff!
google avatar

Malinee S.

Yelp
Cod for Su and chips. Cod is fresh Dave gives you thick cut of fish The shell is crispy and not oily. The sauce was just ok.
google avatar

Edwin S.

Yelp
It's fish and chips, there is no way to screw it up. Fish is deep fried, and then served with fries. Dine in and takeout service is available. Takeout is snuck out the service entrance at the side of the building.
google avatar

Sandy H.

Yelp
I had the one piece fish and chips with halibut. I thought the food was good! You get large portions and it's reasonably priced. Nothing to complain about.
google avatar

Bunny R.

Yelp
They are an exemplar of the level of cleanliness/service, especially during a pandemic: - The tables AND seats were cleaned very thoroughly after each group left. This has been the ONLY dine-in restaurant where I have seen the chairs cleaned so far. Just think we pull the chairs out with our hands. - Good distancing between the tables; - Went on a waitlist and was sent SMS when our table was ready; The food itself was value for money - could definitely taste the freshness of the seafood in the clam chowder. Halibut was nicely cooked/flake. To the owners/servers - keep up the great work!

Yelp
The service is great. Got the code fish and chips. Good price and very filling. Good for a quick meal Casual location!

Yelp
Did anyone say AYCE Fish & Chips? Yes, Dave's offering AYCE Fish & Chips for $10.95 (Cod) and $12.95 (Salmon). No children's price. And they only have AYCE from Monday to Thursday (or Friday?) from 11a - 7p. I had 4 pieces of Cod and they were a little dry and overcooked. The Salmon was a little bit dry and overcooked as well. Not too fond of the thick batter either especially when the batter is darker than what it's supposed to be. I used to come here for good fish & chips but it seems like the quality isn't as good as before. For a few more loons, I could've gone down by the water and had a few good pieces. No thumbs up from little Ashley on this.... And my 4 year old loves her fish and chips.

D W.

Yelp
My husband and I come here on a regular basis and order 2 piece cod with mushy peas. The place can get crowded at times, there is no rhyme or reason. Great service and the price is good. Nice crispy batter and a decent size piece of fish.
google avatar

Adriana O.

Yelp
meh! We went for dinner on a weekday, it was not busy but few people inside made us believe that it was the place to go as other places were empty. Food tasted like it was done long ago and it was just reheated. Fries were soggy and we were so hungry we didn't finish the food and left hungry. Service was ok, but I don't think we will be back again.
google avatar

Linda Y.

Yelp
Service was excellent - friendly, accommodating and efficient. The fish and chips were very good, light, crispy batter. Good quality fish. Fries were good. Bottomless soft drinks/lemonade. The restaurant doesn't have a view or much ambiance - but the good food and friendly service more than make up for this. As a craft beer drinker - I would love to see a better selection of local craft. I mean Fuggles is nearby and an arrangement could be made with Britannia Brewing as well. Four Winds is just in Delta - plenty of local craft to choose from if the establishment is interested. They only served Granville Island draft (which is owned by a subsidiary of Molson/Coors). There are much better m, locally owned craft beer options. I can attest that a heffeweizen is a great accompaniment to fish and chips. If they had a good selection of true craft beers and some rotating taps of seasonal brews, I would go more often. Other than that .... a solid choice for fish and chips. Btw - excellent kids menu options for the little ones.

Yelp
We walked in as a party of 10 half an hour before closing and Renee sat us right down. Many of us got the halibut fish and chips and they were awesome. One of us got the onion rings as a side and they were light and delicious. The clam chowder was amazing with fresh ingredients. The Cole slaw as my wife said was some of the best she has ever had. Stevetson is a lovely little suburb and Renee told us the best spot to have ice cream. If you go to Richmond make this your first stop.
google avatar

Clod G.

Yelp
I have tried all the fish and chips in Steveston and this is the best so far. Fries were crispy and the fish was battered into perfection.
