This ramen is unique, not your authentic Japanese ramen. I believe the inspiration is Vietnamese pho. The noodles in pho however are not this overcooked and soft. The only soft ramen I had were the instant ramen. By no means does instant ramen with its TBHQ represents the taste of authentic ramen you see handcrafted by the local shops. I like the crunchy pork chasu. It was firm and tasty. Good coloring. There were a few bits of pork skin rinds (chicharones). I don't know if it was to boost the umame flavoring that seemed absent. The soggy porks rinds were as palatable as soggy noodles. The only good source for umame is the marrow bones boiled into the broth or powdered mushrooms. There was sliced ginger in the ramen. Ramen shops don't serve bowls with ginger. It is one thing to cleanse the palate when going from one sushi dish to another. Ramen needs no palate cleansing. It is more like a comfort food. No ginger. All that said, this is unique and can be categorized American ramen. The spicy maki roll was a-ok. The rice texture seemed caramelized (see picture), as if indicating it was preformed and had been in the fridge awhile. The sliced ginger was appetizing. The wasabi was standard. Kudos for excellent presentation. Facilities are bright and clean. For ramen and maki, my final bill was $42. This was water, no alcoholic drink included. 4 out of 5.

I'm impressed, the Rainbow Rolls are amazing and are our favorite. I didn't expect the sushi to be so good. Bree is awesome and went the extra mile, which was a pleasant surprise!

While this was rated one of the best sushi restaurants in Bozeman Montana, overall we were disappointed as we were expecting more of authentic Japanese experience. We ordered the Widespread panic, spawning dragon, le poisson, shappenin, temporary insanity, agedashi tofu, and some sashimi. The sushi took a very very long, much longer than usual, like 40 minutes, and when it arrived it looked very underwhelming and very simple. First of all the shappenin was not good at all because the flavours did not seem right and it made me choke. I personally hate avocado so i removed the top layer. The other ones it was quite hard to taste the fish; it was rather bland and the rice was overpowering. On a positive side i enjoyed my meal because the sauces were nice. The sashimi was good and didnt expect any better, but the agedashi tofu was quite soggy and made with medium tofu, not soft tofu, which affected the flavour. Authentic agedashi tofu melts in your mouth; it didnt do it here, and the broth was bland and just mainly soy sauce, missing more crucial ingredients like dashi. Presentation was also very off putting as well. Overall this is about the best it gets in a remote state like montana and didnt expect sushi to be as good as nyc, but this is from the persoective of a new yorker. It was tasty overall but could use some more work. But the real reason why this review has one star is because i just discovered that the restaurants negligence led to the deaths of two elderly people from eating toxic raw mushrooms in april, and this manslaughter is unforgivable and should have caused the restaurant to close permanently. I didnt know that. Truly horrible and I wont eat here again because of that. Three stars for food and service, one star for that and two preventable deaths. It is a SHAME that so many are completely unoblivious of this! No accountability whatsoever i sincerely hope this restaurant closes down as 40 people got sick and there were many health code violations

Wow! We did not expect to find such good sushi in this part of the country but Dave's knocked our socks off. The miso soup, which is such a small thing is the best we've ever had. The fish was delicious especially the twist they have on the different recipes adding a little unique flare.

Google
How is this rated at a 4.5? I'm in Montana and this is the freshest sashimi I've ever had. The sushi he made for me was one of the best I've had. So many components that worked wonderfully. Like this was a great meal. I'm not sure it gets any better than this. Thank you guys.

June 2025 update. Returned with the family. There were limited options on the menu for celiac and picky kids. They still brainstormed with us and provided friend chicken with some gluten free dipping sauces. Kids loved the eel sauce and the kids said it was the best friend chicken they have ever had! The sushi here remains outstanding. Some of the best in the US. ............... Celiac friendly! Gluten free options. Menu clearly identifies which food items contain gluten. If I could give this restaurant 6 stars I would! Some of the best sushi I have ever had in the US! Service was excellent with an amazing atmosphere to match! A must when in Bozeman!

Google
I traveled to Asia for years. Was fortunate to have enjoyed the finest sushi money can buy.. When traveling in the States I rarely partake in much of the raw menu. My kids however do. As their sushi arrives, I first noticed the quality, then asked to taste their food. Everything was extremely fresh and flavorful. We were there at noon on a Wednesday. This is important, as most have a regular schedule of fresh seafood.

We got food to go, and it was all pretty good. My friend love this place. I’ll go back and try something new.

Yelp
Good service and good food. Everytime I come here the staff is quick and efficient. The food is delightful and the low lighting in the restaurant makes for good ambiance. Dave's green tea is probably the best i've ever tasted. I highly recommend Dave's.

Yelp
Dave's was the first restaurant I hit after moving to Bozeman, and I've loved it since. It's been around forever, and I hope it stays that way... The staff is now overly attentive in detail from the back of the house to the front. The rolls are as good as ever, and their specials have stepped up a notch! We have a go-to maki order, which always starts with a seaweed salad or miso soup (their miso soup is tasty!). We usually try to snag a special or do a chef's choice to switch things up... and every now and then, we'll do an omakese and splurg on the 'best of' which I love doing while sitting up at the sushi bar! For those with allergies or dietary "particuairities": They have tamari (GF), low-so soy sauce and real wasabi - just ask. Be sure to check their website if you're curious for any updates on recent events. Their team is doing a world-class job at communicating as much as possible. The one downside is they do seem to have lost some of their talented rollers and wait staff over time. I got used to seeing them! OG Review still stands: Dave's is an amazing non-secret just off Main in downtown bozeman. Their sushi menu is fresh and diverse... Go see yourself.

Yelp
Fabulous sushi!! I am gluten free and am always apprehensive about eating out especially at sushi restaurants but Dave's Sushi was extremely accommodating! The rolls and nigiri are so fresh!! Our waiter helped navigate the menu and they even offer GF tempura. Highly recommend Dave's when visiting Bozeman and we will definitely be back!!

Yelp
I'm always iffy on ordering sushi not close to the ocean. But on my visit, this was by far the best Sam I ever had plus if you're feeling frisky, get the John Wick roll! Bravo hat off!

Elizabeth E.

Yelp
Fresh and delicious, the food was very flavorful. The staff was very kind. I'm just writing words so I can post...

Yelp
What a nice place! We got there early before the big crowd rolled in. It is a bit loud, but the service and food well make up for it. The Nigiri had big pieces with a small amount of rice. The miso soup was tasty too. Sake hit the spot as the final piece of the sushi dinner puzzle. We liked it and will return!

Jenna T.

Yelp
When we went the service was great and restaurant was quiet but food was kind of lackluster. For having lots of fancy rolls and smaller portioned food the flavor was lacking and priced higher then other better sushi spots

Xi L.

Yelp
Service was great, but food was not. Both sushi and beef noodle didn't taste good. The tempura sushi had nothing close to a crispy texture in it, and beef noodle's portion was super tiny
google avatar

Eduardo C.

Yelp
The sushi was delicious and very fresh. It was a brief wait but was very worth it. If i would've gotten her name i would shout out our server, she made the atmosphere welcoming.

Henry L.

Yelp
Okay staff is nice but food tastes mid as heck. Not really authentic to be honest -- looks like college student making sushi, you're better off just eating fast food. The portions are tiny.
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
Last time I ate here was 2019! Good news it's still good and better news is they expanded so less of a wait during prime times! Food and service are amazing and you might think sushi in Montana is weird but trust me when I tell you this will be a highlight of your time in Bozeman! Thanks Dave's! Be back soon!
google avatar

Theresa S.

Yelp
Always a delight to go to Dave's sushi. Love ordering the chef special roll and nigiri it's always a lovely work of art! Nice wait staff and always feel so welcomed and have a great time. We celebrated a birthday and had a large platter of sushi and it was incredible.

Yelp
Nice location in downtown Bozeman. A convenient walk from the Kimpton Armory hotel. This place has a good sized lunch crowd. It was just me so I was seated right away at the sushi bar. The server was friendly and fairly attentive. I ordered the mixed greens salad and the Grave Danger roll. The salad was larger than I expected, but good (you definitely need to cut up this salad otherwise it is somewhat unwieldy when trying to stuff it in your mouth!) . The sesame-ginger dressing they use is very tasty. The Grave Danger roll was good and comes with 10 pieces. The spicy tuna tasted fresh and the roll had a good flavor. Hard to get out of here cheaply, but a good lunch experience. They need a lunch combo. Bozeman had a few sushi options. This one appears to be the only one that is consistently open for lunch.

Yelp
While on vacation we were craving sushi and this was the first place that popped up and we definitely choose well. The place is small but eccentric. We ordered a couple of different rolls which came out pretty quickly and every single roll was delicious. The staff were really nice and recommended a few other places we should try while in Bozeman.

Yelp
A gem in Bozeman. Sat at bar. Very friendly people great service. And food was amazing. Go check these guys out.

Yelp
Staying in Bozeman overnight and saw the billboard for Dave's Sushi and remembered we had been there before. I was excited to go back. I decided to call in the order and pick it up to take back to the hotel. Good thing because the place was PACKED - looks like they've even expanded since the last time we were here. I ordered the "Dirty Bird" roll; fried chicken, avocado and cucumber with jalapeño, bourbon-sriracha sauce and green onions. I also ordered a simple smoked salmon roll. The packaging looked simple enough, but the rolls looked a bit smaller than I remembered. An 8-piece and a 10-piece roll fitting in an 8x8" box? Oh well, they were both still very good. The fried chicken pieces were crispy and tasty. Prices are a somewhat reasonable. I figure a good sushi place in the middle of Montana deserves to charge a little more than you'd find in a more populated area. All good. I would come back next time I roll through.

Yelp
Excellent service. We enjoyed our sushi. Rolls were a good size. Food was priced well.

Wade D.

Yelp
We have been fan's of Dave's Sushi for 20 years. Thru the good times and their more recent bad times. We have been loyal customers. My wife and I ordered take-out yesterday. We ordered three rolls, two nigiri and some tofu and seaweed. $100. I would consider this very high. However, my big disappointment was the 10% mandatory tip for a takeout order. I generally tip 20% for an in-person dining experience. The modicum of service associated with a takeout order seems to be the responsibility of the restaurant charging me $100.
google avatar

Joakim S.

Yelp
Excellent service, amazing sushi, great quality! Hands down favorite place to take my folks out!
google avatar

Robert F.

Yelp
Nothing to be negative about here! The staff, shop, food, drinks, etc. are all top notch and amazing! No disappointments at all sake was outstanding along with the character of the restaurant. The wait staff was on it and quality A+++.
google avatar

Kimberly S.

Yelp
Sushi was amazing! Made to order!!! Bayou and Joy rolls were so delicious!! We had some great sake, and enjoyed sitting in the open air patio.

Tracy L.

Yelp
We were there for lunch on the 11th. Service was so poor, we've decided not to return.
google avatar

Brian T.

Yelp
Food and service was great. Portions were literally double from I received in Las Vegas 2 days prior. Fish on display at the sushi bar was unimpressive. Kitchen area was very cheap and old looking equipment and storage systems. Staff were dressed like however you dress on a Sunday when your home all day watching Netflix.

Gayla H.

Yelp
The parking lot is cramped but the food makes up for it. Joy sushi roll is my fav. The Chef's secret menu is always fun to order off of, especially with our out-of-town guests. This place is a Best of Bozeman restaurant in my opinion.
google avatar

Rachel E.

Yelp
The crab and cheese wontons were to die for! So fresh and melted in your mouth. I was not a fan of the calamari. All the sushi's I tried were very good. When we first walked in it took about 10 minutes to even be acknowledged, so didn't give the best first impression.
google avatar

Joe S.

Yelp
For a place that is packed you would think they would have amazing food but that couldn't be farther from the truth. The rolls look good and plated nicely but that's about it.. it wasn't very good to say the least
google avatar

Alison Y.

Yelp
I always love Dave's! Today I had the Tokyo tacos and the sashimi special. Never disappoints, And the staff is so friendly! Enjoy!
google avatar

Rock Chalk J.

Yelp
Best sushi in Bozeman for like 20 years a for a reason. Even the sushi chefs are personable and will talk to you. Can get busy so plan ahead.
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
Great Sushi for Big Sky Country. Came here with my daughter on our visit to our old hometown. Great prices and very good Sushi.
google avatar

Emma Y.

Yelp
This place was busy- and for a reason. The restaurant had lots of space and attentive staff. The calamari and sushi was delicious. The food was presented beautifully and speedy! It was presented family style and made for a nice setting to enjoy a meal with friends and/or family.

Yelp
Absolutely love Dave's sushi!! The food is excellent, staff is great, and it is always a good time! My husband and I have been going to Dave's together for 14 years and always have excellent service and delicious food! My number 1 choice to celebrate my birthday every year!

Jean D.

Yelp
Best Sushi in Montana. Especially the spider roll. The Hamachi collar. And the caterpillar. Ahi sunrise. Such good food.

Olia M.

Yelp
If you like hard rock or heavy metal music - this place could work for ya. Great food though, friendly people. Young fellas making your yummy sushi. We did enjoy our time there
google avatar

Ricardo P.

Yelp
We picked up sushi on our most recent trip to Bozeman. Came to Dave's due to the good reviews. Food was easy to order online and easy to pickup. We had the Pamela Anderson roll and the fried chicken roll. Considering I do not like seafood, these were good options for me. Would recommend if craving sushi in Bozeman.
google avatar

Al K.

Yelp
Always a great time at Dave's sushi! Of the sushi places in town, this has always been my personal favorite. Be prepared for a wait though! It is worth it! I haven't had a roll I haven't at least loved a little bit!! Edeme is a must! Sake is also delicious if you're up for it!! Give Dave's a try. They're super fast too!

Alyssa H.

Yelp
Delectable sushi spot. Per the sushi chef's recommendation, I tried their seared lime scallop nigiri special and it hit the spot. Highly recommend if you're looking for sushi in Bozeman.

Amanda R.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. I had the crawfish roll. Hubs had shrimp tempura and spicy tuna rolls. The style of the spicy tuna was not his fave but the other 2 were delicious. House wine was good. We will be back next time we are in town!
google avatar

Anna M.

Yelp
Super busy, bustling, and tasty! Even for a Tuesday, Dave's sushi was still doing a call ahead list and we were glad to be able to plan our dinner accordingly. The ambiance is very cozy and friendly. The service was impeccable and our waitress was extremely attentive. We ordered a seaweed salad and 3 rolls: Daddy Longlegs, Kelly Slater, and the Spawning Dragon. Daddy longlegs: the spice level was a bit too overpowering for me to enjoy this roll and better suited for someone with a higher tolerance! Didn't exactly live up to the "Cadillac of sushi rolls" description. Kelly Slater: DELICIOUS!!! By far my favorite roll ever! I've never felt sushi melt in my mouth the way that this one did. Simply outstanding. Spawning Dragon: tasty, but nowhere near the level of the Kelly Slater. Overall, great spot for dinner and would love to come back!

R W.

Yelp
Our take out was prepared timely and was delicious. Service was fast and courteous. The place seemed fairly busy. Looking forward to eating in some time.

L R.

Yelp
Two people died due to Dave's Sushi mishandling food, multiple others were made sick, and the management handled the entire thing incredibly poorly. We used to love the restaurant but now we wouldn't eat there if you paid us.
google avatar

Nunya B.

Yelp
Love this place. By far the best sushi in Bozeman. Ahi sunrise roll is great. Good local beers too.
google avatar

Ashley W.

Yelp
This is the best sushi in town however is severely overpriced. They would make so much more if they evenly priced their rolls between $9-15. Plan on spending at least $100 every time you visit this place per 2-3 people. Rolls are amazing!
google avatar

Maxine A.

Yelp
I really like Dave's sushi, and have dined in and out of here many times. I wanted to try their pho and came to yelp to see if anyone else has tried it, but couldn't find any results. My conclusion is it's not that good or worth the price. Only got one piece of pork and not really any other toppings. Save yourself and order more rolls. They're all great

William W.

Yelp
NEVER AGAIN. Served us a raw hamachi collard, and had the audacity to argue with us insisting that it was cooked despite the fact that the blood was bright and the flesh was translucent in the middle. This place has definitely earned their bad reputation.
google avatar

Heather B.

Yelp
Dave's portions were large. The food was fabulous and the person who took my order was very helpful and thorough. We ordered carry out. I would recommend this place if in Bozeman area!

adventureous J.

Yelp
The worst sushi place I have ever been to this place had me doubled a toilet all night. Not to mention it is a pitiful example of cultural appropriation with 0 traditional respect. No go but one star for good beer.
google avatar

Jennifer K.

Yelp
After graduating in 2017 from MSU, my husband and I made the trip back to Bozeman and Dave's was at the top of our list for a visit and did not disappoint. It was packed on a Sunday night at 730 pm but we got in right away. The service was great, always there when you needed them and willing to answer questions. The food was better than we remembered! The atmosphere is casual and fun. They have a very small parking lot but parking is abundant and free in the surrounding blocks. This place is a must!

John G.

Yelp
Always seen this place passing through, tried it and was not impressed. Rolls look good, no flavor must be cheap ingredients!
google avatar

Paul R T J.

Yelp
The place was mobbed. It apparently is that way often. We were there midweek. Had to wait a little longer than promised. However, the sakē was cold and delicious. I was pleasantly surprised there was superior sushi in the middle of Montana
