While this was rated one of the best sushi restaurants in Bozeman Montana, overall we were disappointed as we were expecting more of authentic Japanese experience.
We ordered the Widespread panic, spawning dragon, le poisson, shappenin, temporary insanity, agedashi tofu, and some sashimi.
The sushi took a very very long, much longer than usual, like 40 minutes, and when it arrived it looked very underwhelming and very simple. First of all the shappenin was not good at all because the flavours did not seem right and it made me choke. I personally hate avocado so i removed the top layer. The other ones it was quite hard to taste the fish; it was rather bland and the rice was overpowering. On a positive side i enjoyed my meal because the sauces were nice.
The sashimi was good and didnt expect any better, but the agedashi tofu was quite soggy and made with medium tofu, not soft tofu, which affected the flavour. Authentic agedashi tofu melts in your mouth; it didnt do it here, and the broth was bland and just mainly soy sauce, missing more crucial ingredients like dashi. Presentation was also very off putting as well.
Overall this is about the best it gets in a remote state like montana and didnt expect sushi to be as good as nyc, but this is from the persoective of a new yorker. It was tasty overall but could use some more work.
But the real reason why this review has one star is because i just discovered that the restaurants negligence led to the deaths of two elderly people from eating toxic raw mushrooms in april, and this manslaughter is unforgivable and should have caused the restaurant to close permanently. I didnt know that. Truly horrible and I wont eat here again because of that. Three stars for food and service, one star for that and two preventable deaths.
It is a SHAME that so many are completely unoblivious of this! No accountability whatsoever i sincerely hope this restaurant closes down as 40 people got sick and there were many health code violations
