David Burke Kitchen - Review - Soho - New York - The Infatuation

"David Burke is a freak in the kitchen. His wild side and tongue-in-cheek creativity made him a celebrity chef, though he’s fallen off the radar a bit lately. Burke is certainly not afraid to take risks, and he has always had a flair for the dramatic. We’ve never been huge fans of his cooking, but had heard things about his farm-to-table “urban farmhouse” in the James Hotel...so we decided to check it out. Even before stepping foot inside David Burke Kitchen, I was already turned off. The people I dealt with on the phone, on three different occasions, were all horribly rude. Pleasantry obviously isn’t something they value highly here. And this isn’t me being all emo and venting for no good reason, Yelp style. These people were legitimately awful, and they got worse each time. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were greeted with a similarly cold, “I don’t really give a sh*t about you” attitude. Much like the restaurant itself, which is comprised of a huge loft-like dining room, a massive patio, and “The Treehouse” bar overlooking 6th Ave, the menu at David Burke Kitchen is a bit overwhelming. It took us a solid twenty minutes to digest the whole thing and come up with a game plan. We managed to make our way to a few winning plates (the Pretzel Crab Cake and the Scallops & Pork Belly were both tremendous), but we weren’t blown away overall. Most of the dishes had too many components and were way more style than substance. Also, our entire meal felt rushed. The staff was quick on the draw all night, trying to hijack unfinished plates and half-full drinks back to the kitchen prematurely The bottom line? Go to Blue Hill or ABC Kitchen. David Burke Kitchen is not the place to have an incredible farm-to-table experience. Food Rundown Ocean Cocktail Jar with Horseradish They are big on jars at Burke Kitchen. This one was a strange cold salad of shrimp and lobster that you were supposed to scoop out of the jar with endive leaves. Not exactly practical, and not exactly delicious. Arancini Little rice balls with cheese prosciutto. You can’t go wrong with these guys. Prosciutto & Burrata Burrata on top of peach slices on top of heirloom tomato slices on top of prosciutto slices on top of fat chunks of watermelon. This is a big time flavor explosion in every bite, and would be better if a couple of components were removed. Pretzel Crab Cake A staple on any Burke menu, this is the dish he’s become known for, and is easily one of the best things on the menu. Crusty pretzel on the outside, crab cake on the inside. Amazing. Sheep’s Milk Camembert Tortellini We found this to be an average tortellini, served with morel mushrooms and a pea and mint puree. Nothing to get excited about here. Warm Asparagus White and green asparagus in a tomato hollandaise, with a prosciutto wrapped poached egg. This was good, but not as good as it should have been. We’ve had plenty of other asparagus and poached egg dishes that were better - without the flashy prosciutto wrapping job. BBQ Chicken You’ve probably heard this before. You can tell a lot about a restaurant by how well they prepare their chicken dish. If that’s the case, David Burke Kitchen didn’t pass the test. Their “charred grape” BBQ’ed half chicken over mac n’ cheese and pickled watermelon is not a chicken dish I would ever order again. Not only was the chicken dry and overcooked, but the mac n’ cheese was soggy. Scallops & Pork Belly The best dish of our night, by a mile. This perfectly cooked pork belly had an insanely good, sugary sear on it. The scallops were equally excellent, and combined with charred baby cauliflower, this was one concept that delivered. Halibut An interesting way to serve halibut. The fish was pounded flat and accompanied by artichokes, black olive gnocchi, fava and saffron. Overall, we enjoyed this, despite the fish being a little overcooked. Skate Stuffed with Lobster & Shrimp Mousse An imaginative special. This dish looked like a big egg roll. We enjoyed it, although it wasn’t as good as it sounded like it was going to be. Monkey Bread For Two If you come to David Burke Kitchen, you need to end your meal on a high note and get some monkey bread." - Andrew Steinthal

We had a peaceful and enjoyable early Friday evening upstairs in the dining room. The service was attentive and excellent, and the food was delicious—rustic with a unique twist. We sat in the corner with our penguin friend and even did some research to uncover why it was there! Before leaving, we had the chance to meet the chef, who was friendly and personable as he headed out for the night.

This place was such a hidden gem! Tucked away and a little hard to spot at first, but once inside — wow. Super cute, cozy, and definitely romantic. The food was absolutely delicious, everything tasted super fresh and the presentation was beautiful. The flavors were incredible, every bite felt like a surprise. Such a lovely experience from start to finish.🔥🔥

If you’re in NYC and you don’t come here, you’re an idiot. The food is amazing!!! I’m writing this for my mom because she’s still eating and not sharing…which means Chef Burke is destroying maternal instincts. That’s how good his food is. The wild mushroom ravioli has turned mushrooms into a food group and the cheesecake was light with coolies that only enhanced. Chef Burke and his team created a food experience about which I don’t think I’ve ever seen my Mom rave like this before. Come. Here. Even their house wine was well selected!

Walked in after some shopping and was exactly what we were looking for. The decor was nice and elegant, downstairs had a great vibe and at the time I didn’t know there was an upstairs. Upstairs was had more table and very classy. Food was really good. Highly recommend the short ribs and the clotheslines bacon.

Had an extraordinary meal at David Burke Tavern. Service was top notch… friendly, yet professional and knowledgeable!!!!! The clothesline bacon (and having it blowtorched table side) was awesome! Bacon was sweet and peppery! So yummy. The prime ribeye was perhaps the best I’ve had in a very long time!!! Perfectly seasoned with whatever dry rub/seasoning they use! The showstopper though had to have been the cake lollipop tree with cotton candy!!!! Sooo good! David Burke Tavern is not cheap, but I feel very worth the money and I would definitely come back again and again!!!!

I had an extremely disappointing experience at David Burke’s Tavern on Christmas Eve. The service was absolutely terrible. Our waiter Richard N. was not only inattentive but outright rude, making us feel like an inconvenience rather than valued guests. It was shocking, especially on a holiday evening when you expect a certain level of warmth and professionalism. The overall experience was soured by this lack of basic hospitality, and unfortunately, it overshadowed what could have been an enjoyable meal. As you can see from the pictures we tried everything from the Clothes line Bacon and the Lobster Dumplings to the Dry-aged Porterhouse which were all cold but delicious. If Chef David Burke truly cares about the reputation of his restaurant, I would highly encourage him or his management team to reach out to me to hear more about my experience and hopefully address these serious service issues. This was far from the experience I was expecting especially since I had a very positive experience at the Park Ave location. Unfortunately I won’t be returning unless there’s a genuine effort to improve.

Beautiful upstairs setting. Service guy looked nervous. Food was a let down. DB Avocado toast. Smoked salmon got murdered with spices or some dressing masking it's freshness or taste. 0/10 Don't know why my avocado toast came with side salad greens. Toast itself was ok. Also had coffee to begin and mimosa to end Saturday brunch.

Google
We stopped by here during restaurant week for their unorthodox set up where patrons sit side by side like at a bar. The mussels were well seasoned and tasted great. Both the tartare and the scallops were crafted well and rich in flavors. I look forward to coming back here again

Yelp
Enjoyed a Restaurant Week 2025 2-course Lunch, with some additional add-ons. I expected the food to be delicious and it was. Why did I expect that? Well, some years ago, I had enjoyed several meals at David Burke's restaurant inside Bloomingdale's on East 59th Street. Sometimes, I would even stop in to buy a "take-out" order of one amazingly delicious POPOVER. Oh, how I loved those warm, cheesy-peppery popovers!! Mmm, so good, a wonderful comfort food. Pair that yummy popover with the very nice staff, and it was a win-win situation. I wish you'd bring back those popovers, please, please, please. Although I did not see those beloved popovers on the menu, the lunch was quite enjoyable. I ordered The Tavern Onion Soup, The Hanger Steak Frites. I like my steak "medium", which means I am going to see the pink in the middle when I slice my steak. My steak arrived sliced and it was nice! See my photos. I liked the David Burke steak knife. I did use it to cut some of the slices. I'd rate the onion soup a 4/5, because the soup itself, in my humble opinion, could have used a bit more flavor or seasoning, and I would have liked a bit more of the melted yummy cheese. It was served very neat, no melted cheese on the outside of the crock bowl. Everything was inside the bowl. Looked nice. My hanger steak was very good. A delightful amount of charred, crispness on the edges of each slice of steak. Very good. And the French fries were great. I added a side vegetable of roasted Brussels sprouts which were yummy. 5/5 For dessert, I enjoyed the Key Lime Pie, and a pot of chamomile tea with honey on the side. 5/5 My friend had , and totally enjoyed: tuna tartare, mushroom ravioli, pumpkin cheesecake, cappuccino. All looked delicious and was delicious. I want to return soon to try that fabulous looking tuna tartare and that mushroom ravioli. Interior-WONDERFUL. The David Burke Tavern is in a lovely townhouse. I love the decor . David Burke's style is whimsical and cozy, comfy, with an aire of elegance. It's everything that I like. LOL There is a lovely, long bar when you enter. And there is comfortable seating on the main floor and the second floor. On the main floor there's even an area for a very cozy private table of about 4 to 6 people. It's tucked away inside its own space which is really lovely to see. A clever design, space, for sure. And the upstairs has beautiful black and white patterned floor tiles, in an array of designs, as you enter the lovely, dark walled dining room. The padded banquet seating is in the orange-ish color that just compliments the decor so beautifully. The staff was very nice and helpful. There is also a Happy Hour, Tuesday -Friday, 3:30pm-6:30pm, with special pricing on drinks and yummy food items. For example, a yummy cheeseburger and fries for $15. (I'll be seeing you soon!!) Beers from $6, cocktails from $12, wines by the glass $9. See my photos. Worth a visit, for sure. Make a reservation so you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
We were the first to arrive for dinner service and were seated in a lovely corner table. The decor was fantastic. It would be appropriate for any setting and there was a mix of all ages and backgrounds. Some folks were there just for a casual friday night dinner, while others were there to celebrate. Our server struggled with a few things that were disappointing such as not knowing the soup of the day. We actually ordered the French Onion Soup and it never arrived unfortunately. We were never presented with any specials (unsure if there were any beyond the Restaurant Week menu we were presented). The cocktail menu was promising but the execution was hit and miss as the Espresso Martini was very watery. The steak was delectable. The burger was strong. The star of the show was the crab cake pretzel raft. The potatoes and Brussels sports were very good. We're looking forward to going back to give them another try because overall the experience was positive albeit with a few small hiccups.

Yelp
We were looking for a place to have some drinks and kill some time . Came across this place . We were welcomed by the bartender Robbie ( who was a sweetheart) l . We sat at the bar and asked for a few drinks . They didn't have the alcohol to make a Moscow mule . Then we asked for Jack and club and they didn't have Jack Daniel's ... ( which bar in this planet doesn't have Jack Daniel's ?? I mean it's a BAR !!! We had the Quinoa Bowl with chicken and the steak and eggs on the brunch menu . The steak was very well seasoned and Robbie was a great bartender / server . But that is the best in this place . It's absolutely too small , full of steps even indoors and that's a bit iffy.. people can miss a step and get hurt . Not really that impressed .. they should create a bigger space where servers and patrons don't walk over each other and also buy some alcohol for that bar .

Yelp
Every NYC Summer Restaurant Week, I have to make a pit stop at this restaurant. Usually, this spot has great deals for restaurant week. The ambiance was great as a variety of clientele regular and new were dining. Service was great, quick, and efficient. Portion size for part of the meal was perfect as there were no leftovers. The items ordered this time were perfect for someone who is a pescatarian with the crabcake, oysters, and scallops, ending it with the refreshing berry Sorbet. I hope to return for happy hour because their menu has gotten more extensive with more food options.

Yelp
The staff was friendly and attentive. It was quiet on a cold Saturday but that was nice to have the space upstairs to ourselves! Food was delicious

Yelp
This is definitely a fine dining establishment and you notice as soon as you walk in the door you are introduced by a bar and a table area. They have their dining area on the second floor with elevator access if needed. The second floor dining area has an intimate feel to it a very nice place to bring a few friends or a nice date. The service is really good but I feel the tables are a little close to each other. I ordered off the restaurant week menu. I had a Caesar Salad which was only romaine lettuce, parmesan cheese, and homemade unseasoned croutons. I t was good but I feel they have could've put more effort into the flavor. I had the lobster dumplings, and tuna tartare which was out of this world. My entree I had the hanger steak with hipster fries which was also really good. The chocolate moose cake was delicious and the perfect amount of sweet and savory. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place to people that want have a more upscale dining experience.

Yelp
Turned out to be a pretty good brunch albeit this wasn't my 1st choice & we ended up going on a whim. The pastrami salmon Benedict was huge to say the least & had a nice kick to it. My daughter's tug boat French toast was also a pleaser. They accompanied my family of 3, myself & two kids one of which was stroller bound, quite well for us to be walk ins. Please be aware that you'll need to descend down some stairs to get to the restaurant though

Marlene S.

Yelp
The ambience upstairs is nice, the food is sparse on a large plate once it arrives, the prices are out of line high and the service is incredibly poor. Imagine waiting for twenty minutes despite a reservation, then being moved into an empty room, then moved again with the promise of complementary drinks. When the check arrived, we got charged for the drinks anyway and we paid...no offer to refund. We live in the neighborhood but will never go back.

Yelp
Table 10 minutes late. Obnoxious loud Xmas music blared. It took 3 requests to gat it turned off and everyone cheered. Drinks served 1 hour later. Food served 1 hour after that. Understaffed. Waiters carrying food up 20 stairs. Probably the elevator to floor 2 broke. Some food quite mediocre. Pecan pie probably 3 days old. Total time to eat 3.5 hours. Overall, a tragic evening.

Yelp
Proper quality lunch David Burke Tavern. Had the pre fixe lunch deal. Mixed green salad, Atlantic salmon on a bed of cauliflower purée with onions, fava beans, asparagus and pesto . Dessert was key lime pie with berry compote from David Burke's Dixie Lee Bakery. A++

Yelp
Came here for a work lunch and the food and service were really good. The hipster fries were my favorite I think. The flavors were really good. The lobster dumplings were only ok. They were very dense I think it would have been better if they were a bit fluffier. I got a Cesar with chicken which was pretty good. The clothesline bacon was delicious. Dessert was also good.
google avatar

Yelp
Service is good but our waiter asks us the same thing if we want salt. I guess he knew because when a second dish came - we did need some salt. Food was very good especially their famed thick bacon served with tiny laundry clips on a string like clothes. The bacon has a maple coat seasoned with different peppers and a pickle. I have always seen this and last night was the first time I had them. It makes me want to go back. The cooked bacon is torched at your table before serving. Impressive! I do not recommend the lobster dumplings because I could not taste the lobster. I recommend the scallops with a nice touch of sauce. I chose the raspberry sorbet which I was told had a lot of fruits but really did not. Maybe he meant when the sorbet was made.

Brian W.

Yelp
What a disappointment. French toast was cold, there's no chance that it was made fresh. Same with the chicken and waffles, waffles felt and tasted like they were made the day before, rock hard and cold. Service terrible, slow and forgetful, not a great combination.

Yelp
Super disappointed given this place has 4 stars. Went for happy hour and was looking forward to their lobster dumplings as they were recommended by a friend. Would up getting an order of those, hipster fries, oysters, and the happy hour cheeseburger. My wife and I split most of it. I should have read some of the reviews beforehand because the lobster dumplings were a huge letdown. Two pieces came in the order for $12. I didn't realize that there was a leg shell sticking out of the top of the dumpling so when I cut a piece and took a bite I had a mouthful of shell. There was absolutely no lobster flavor at all. The oysters were great, but pricey we than other happy hours at $3 each. Small but tasty. I've had $1 oysters elsewhere that were just as good but larger. The burger was fine, nothing to brag about. The hipster fries were great, they had shishito peppers and bacon. A very nice touch was that the bacon was thick cut and sliced to be the same size as the fries so it was a nice bite to get one and one as a bite. Service was great, no complaints there. The place is tight so when it got a little busy my stool at the high top across from the bar was getting hit a lot and some "local " looking guy sat obnoxiously at the bar behind me and made it unpleasant. People who think they can do no wrong by being a local to an establishment make me not want to go back. TLDR; would not go back.

Thomas F.

Yelp
Great service, excellent food, decent prices. We organized an Event there with ten guests, success!

Abbie L.

Yelp
Hostess was kind and accommodating. Caught the tail end of happy hour and then continued the party upstairs for dinner service. The staff honored a meaningful special request. The food was delightful and the dinning space was cozy. Will dine again.

Yelp
Ambiance (5/5): The establishment has both an indoor and outdoor dining area. The first floor is a casual experience with high top and bar seating. The upstairs is the main dining area but exquisite decor that feels like a rustic library mixed with a speakeasy. I love the life-sized stuffed penguins! The place is moderately lit, low music volume, and overall comfortable place for a comfortable meal. Service (5/5): On a Sunday evening, the place was probably at 25% capacity. We were asked if we wanted to dine downstairs or upstairs and am glad we chose upstairs and in a corner with the stuffed penguin. We were able to sit intimately side by side this way! We were attended to throughout the meal and the manager/owner also came to check in on us. Food (4.5/5): There is an option for the fixed price menu for 3 courses indicated by a little grain icon. We opted to choose our own courses. Pisco Disco cocktail (1/5): it was extremely tart and not good Tuna and Salmon Tartare (5/5): I loved the combo of the seaweed salad and avocado with the ponzu. More importantly, the fish tasted really fresh. The spices melded with the avocado made each bite taste creamy. Dry-aged 34 oz porterhouse for two (4/5): This cut's seasoning is patent-protected! The dish had a great presentation of the bone standing upright with a couple slices of onion rings, and the meat pre-cut laid around the bone. Half of the dish had meat that was cooked more medium than our ask of medium-rare. I'm being picky with their choice to provide blunt knives instead of a steak knife since without the serrated edges, it was a little more difficult to cut tougher meat. Sadly, I felt like the meat's crust wasn't seasoned enough! The crust was salted but did not have the thick crisp that I was hoping for. Perhaps the layer of marbling and crust wasn't aged for long enough?? Otherwise, the flavoring was great! There was an optional au jus to complement the steak, which I felt helped to moisten some of the well done meat. Mash Potatoes with garlic confit (5/5): Perfect creaminess and savory taste that a mash potato dish should be Brussel Sprouts (5/5): These were amazingly charred and had a fully packed flavor in each bite! The creamy sauce added an extra layer of taste that the Brussel sprouts already had on its own! It's almost like there was a marinate to it that allows each bite to be rich. Chocolate Mocha Dome (4/5): The dome was a work of art! Inside the dome is a chocolate mousse. I loved the raspberry drizzle and it went well with the vanilla ice cream. Overall, loved our experience! Definitely interested in coming back to try their other dishes!

Yelp
The food is consistently outstanding. I had the lobster dumplings, tuna tartare and oysters. All were fresh and delicious. Chris our bar tender and waiter was awesome. The place is very cozy and welcoming. A great place to go for happy hour.

Yelp
While randomly in the neighborhood I came in to one of my favorite David Burke places. The food, service and ambiance was so nice. If you are in the neighborhood, for sure make a visit.

Yelp
Welcome back September 10 dinner was delicious. The Prix Fixe menu is a great value and the service was great as always. Downstairs bar has a lively atmosphere while the upstairs dining room has nice ambiance. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Visited for restaurant week. Everything was delicious. We ordered scallops, steak, and chocolate cake. Service was almost perfect. Only minor issue is that I was over charged for my drink which the server promptly fixed

Yelp
Celebrated a good friend's birthday brunch last weekend and it was nice. 4-stars because it's obviously a pretty and classy place and because Jennifer took such great care of us. Also loved the special and semi private table they chose for us. On to the food. We started with the dressy oysters which were wonderful and since some couldn't eat oysters, we also had the clothesline bacon which was yum and a pretty fun spin to it. For main entree, most if not all had the steak and eggs and this for me was a bit underwhelming. Dessert was a slice of chocolate cake and we tried the lollipop cheesecake which came with cotton candy. This was quite enjoyable to share with our big group. The only thing I wished they had was a little complimentary birthday treat, not only did I have to specifically ask, it apparently was charged. It's really not the cost honestly, it's just always nice to do a little something for the birthday celebrant of the day, whether asked for or not. We all opted for the bottomless brunch and while I was personally just taking it slow, nice to see that my friends did enjoy when they went for more. :)

Yelp
Quaint spot that may be missed.Good cheeseburger and fries. Nice ambiance and terrific service.

Yelp
Horrible service (too long of a wait for EVERYTHING) and the quality of food was mediocre for the price. My dinner with 3 people total took 3 freaking hours for appetizer, entree, dessert. We got seated upstairs in the back room, so at times there was even no one to wave down to speed things up. I tried the lobster dumplings at an upcharge and wasn't impressed. Only 3 small dumplings! Save yourself the money and go eat somewhere else. Honestly, it tasted like the lobster ravioli at Trader Joe's. You can get that for $5. For entree I got the filet mignon. The outside was too charred but the inside was correctly medium rare. I did really enjoy the brussel sprouts, I'll have to say! We went a little crazy for dessert and got the apple tart, cheesecake lollipop tree, and chocoalte crunch cake. The apple tart was probably my favorite one. It was very hard to eat - it was very hard texture wise and hard to cut with a knife. The cheesecake lollipop tree was cool that it came with cotton candy. The lollipops were similar to cake pops you can get at Starbucks. Not bad. The chocolate crunch cake came drizzled with bubblegum frosting or something ridiculous tasting. It ruined the cake, and the chocolate cake wasn't that good to begin with anyway. Definitely would not come back, sorry!

Yelp
i came here on a sunday afternoon for brunch. NYC restaurant week also happened to be going on, and they were participating. also it was my birthday lunch with my parents so i was excited to try a little bit of everything here! my mom had been to the soho location many times before and spoke highly of it. there are two stories in david burke tavern - it seems like they don't sit most folks on the first floor when it's not too busy, as it was empty (besides one table) when we walked in but then saw lots of other parties sitting on the second floor. there are cute penguin plushies kind of scattered around the tavern as the penguin seems to be their mascot. the service was great but it seemed to take them a while to get our check. the food took a good amount of time to come out, we were all so hungry waiting. so 2 of us tried the restaurant week menu, 2 of us tried the brunch menu. what we ordered: restaurant week: - lobster dumplings (x2) - disappointed that there were only two measly pieces of dumplings and they didn't taste like lobster either. i can't really tell what fish they used? - fire roasted atlantic salmon - delicious but such a small portion of fish with some (tough to chew!) veggies on the side. the mashed potatoes that came with this dish were pretty good tbh. and the salmon was so juicy! - tavern cheeseburger - weird, weird, weird bread choice for the bun... it was like an english muffin-type of deal. it doesn't really feel right to call this a cheeseburger? maybe it's just me? the meat patty was juicy and good though, my dad said it was cooked to perfection. brunch: - fried chicken & waffles - why is there only one piece of fried chicken and then 4 pieces of waffle? the ratio is off. the waffles weren't very good. they were tough to chew and tasted a bit stale. the chicken was not as fried/crispy as i would have liked so it was just okay. - pretzel crab cake benedict - the real star of the show. we all liked the crab cake and thought it was the best thing we had gotten. eggs were poached perfectly and we got some good egg yolk action.

Yelp
The food was excellent. Don't forget to try the clothesline bacon . Appetizers are great. The steak was perfectly done. We came here and ordered from the happy hour menu and stayed for dinner for Entrees. The service was excellent. The place was packed, but they made sure to be attentive to all the tables. We ordered cocktails, and it was okay, but I definitely will go back for the food.

Yelp
I love this place. It's a perfect date night spot. The drinks were strong and tasty and the food was delicious and fresh.

Yelp
Umm a steakhouse I guess. Sunday night this place was almost empty. It's good food but not anywhere near great. It's good for a meal but I wouldn't go out of my way or place to high of expectations. Service was friendly and helpful. They have to liven up the menu a bit for it to stand out.

Yelp
I went for Restaurant Week and the menu did not disappoint! For my appetizer I tried the Tuna Tartare. It was packed with tuna and tasted fresh and delicious! Two thumbs up! My dining companion had the lobster dumplings and we both found them lacking. Very spicy (which she doesn't like) and not a lot of lobster. We both had the diver scallops for our main course. They were lightly seared and served on a bed of corn, red pepper and bacon with a small dollop of chimichurri sauce on the side. Perfectly cooked, absolutely loved them! We added a side of whipped potatoes to share, and I'm so happy we did. Finally, we had the GF lava cake for dessert. Every bite was gooey chocolate heaven. There was a tiny scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side which complimented the hot fudgy cake and a drip of raspberry sauce. Restaurant Week is such a steal. Amazing prices for this fabulous meal. Go visit before it ends 8/20!

Yelp
The perfect spot for a pre 59E59 show! The A/C was on full blast when we walked in during a heatwave and we were greeted and seated in the bar/booth area. The bartender Robbie was also our server. He was delightful. We ordered happy hour choice white wine called Conundrum. Delish and crisp! We also ordered from the happy hour menu - To share between the 2 of us - Lobster Dumplings - perfect little delights with a spicy sauce kick! Tuna Tartare - truly delicious and fresh. Then we ordered the Lobster Salad and the Sashimi from the regular menu. Both were Very flavorful and satisfying. I highly recommend this establishment - ESPECIALLY for Happy Hour!! We left feeling content and considering how sweltering the weather was, we weren't too full and ready for a show!

Yelp
Okay so I was a little skeptical waking in because it looked small but the main seating area was upstairs and it was gorgeous. Quiet , intimate, beautifully decorated. We had the lobster dumplings which were blah - I wouldn't order these again. They were undercooked and hard. The reason I'm giving 5 starts is for the aged porterhouse. WOW it was the best steak I have had in a long time. Perfectly cooked and served. For $160 It is for 2 but actually was plenty for 3 of us. It comes with mashed potatoes which were also delicious and we ordered a side of fried which were also amazing. I had great service , our waiter was prompt

Yelp
walked in and didn't know where the host stand was, ended up waiting there for about five minutes until a server finally led us to where we needed to be. we asked to sit upstairs which was the right choice because the ambiance was nice and we had a stuffed penguin hanging with us for dinner. my boyfriend told the restaurant it was our anniversary, so we had some complementary champagne :) this immediately made me feel better lol. plus our server was exceptionally nice. we did the 45$ rw menu. boyfriends food: calamari: 10/10 salmon: 7/10 key lime pie: 8/10 my food: tuna tartare: 8/10 hangar steak: 8/10 (the fries that came with this entree were perhaps the best fries i have ever had. would come back and still get the steak because of this. they had bacon disguised as fries and were cheesy with shishito peppers SO INSANELY GOOD can't stress this enough) sorbet: 9/10 (mixed berry sorbet) would definitely come back for another restaurant week type of deal. so worth it, definitely recommend!

Yelp
Old school service, great dinner options. There is a price fixe menu at dinner that had a good selection. Interesting characters at the bar. Good wine options. Delicious tuna tartar. I plan on returning again soon!

Yelp
I had breakfast over the weekend and left extremely disappointed. We ordered the chicken and waffles and asked before we ordered them if it was white meat, and was told "yes, it's chicken breast". When I started eating it, I was getting nauseous as it was mostly dark meat and I would not have ordered it if I was told this originally. My husband felt bad sending it back and only ate half of the chicken being grossed out. The waiter kindly got me a steak with eggs and potatoes. I asked for the eggs sunny side up and very slightly runny and the steak medium. The eggs were practically raw and the steak was extremely salty, mostly fat, and was undercooked. I would've said something again but I was only asked how it was after we paid for the bill... biggest waste of almost $100. I do not recommend.

Yelp
We came here to celebrate my husband's birthday. We started off downstairs to enjoy the Happy Hour menu. Great prices for bites of their popular menu items and glasses of wine and beer. Skip the lobster dumplings. The dumpling wrapper is way too thick and doesn't have that much filling. Definitely get the bacon! We then moved upstairs for dinner. We had a reservation and was happy to get a cozy corner spot. We did the Restaurant Week menu since it was a great value. Our steaks were cooked to perfection. I usually don't like filet mignon, but theirs was juicy and tender. The short rib cavatelli was a huge portion and had great flavor. My favorite thing of the night was the apple tarte. It was crunchy and had the right amount of sweetness to end the meal. The food was great, but the service could definitely use some work. Our server Darren was clearly overwhelmed. It seemed that there were a lot of staff but he had too many tables. He definitely tried his best to check in on us and make sure we were ok. Our entrees didn't come out together, so our steaks sat for a little bit (still tasted great) and the same happened with our desserts. Other staff members brought out the desserts in a super hasty manner. I would have overlooked that but they completely forgot to acknowledge my husband's birthday. I wrote it on the reservation notes and Darren even said it was mentioned during the team huddle. But when dessert came out, there was not even a birthday candle on his cake. I understand if the restaurant was short staffed, but at least make an effort if it was clearly written in my notes. The managers of the restaurant checked on us a few times during our meal. If Darren was busy, they could have easily handled that request. We went there to celebrate his birthday and it was not a celebration. I'll come back, but only for Happy Hour.

Yelp
Unless you're into intermittent fasting, dining at David Burke Tavern is almost certain to be a frustrating and unsatisfying experience... Pre- and post-COVID, I have given DBT many chances, but it is repeatedly the same story here: An interesting menu with great potential, with the ball always dropped by the kitchen and/or service teams. For all the thought and care that goes into the innovative menus, the bar and wait service, and back-of-house staff, are sadly not up to the task. Super-slow service and lukewarm, wilted dishes--be they sandwiches, salads, sides, or dinner entrées--are inexcusable, especially when the David Burke name is attached. If the service and kitchen staff were properly trained, DBT could be spectacular and fun, like Mr. Burke himself. Instead, diners' patience is stretched to the limit, with many requesting their checks after long waits for sub-par plates and cocktails, or orders that don't arrive at all...

Yelp
Great ambiance in the main dining room, and amazing service! All appetizers were great and the bacon was a real stand out. Most of the main courses were good, the lamb, the halibut and steak, but the pork chop was so dry I almost broke my hand trying to cut it, and almost choked on it. I expected better!

Yelp
A friend and I went to DBT for lunch at 1:30 on a weekday. The tavern was not crowded, but the service was bad (the waiter was surly and got things wrong), the food was bad (my quinoa was not sufficiently cooked and there were barely any vegetables except for a big stack of raw red onions), and it was expensive. Very disappointing!

Yelp
From the bar to the 2nd floor dining room, everything is wonderfully welcoming at Tavern. We're lucky to get to the city 3-4 times a year but an annual dinner is a must for us (used to be 1-2 times per month, plus cocktails between!) Wine list is lovely & service matches. Never knew about happy hour! The bar offers seats as well as tables. Can't wait to return.

Yelp
We were skeptical after reading many skeptical reviews about the waitstaff and especially the hostess. I can confirm by our visit today that they are true. We had a reservation for 2:45 and arrived at 3:08. The hostess said we can't be seated because the kitchen closed at 3:00. We we would have to wait 22 minutes and come back. I responded by saying that if we had arrived at 2:59 you would have seated us and she replied in the affirmative. When I asked that if we had arrived on time and ordered at 3:00 the kitchen would have have not started our order until 3:30 and she replied in the affirmative. A waiter and bartender didn't under the absurdity of taking a reservation and having the kitchen close by the time you order. We felt lucky that we walked out and the hostess could not have cared less. For what ever it's worth the lounge area is extremely narrow and would not be acceptable for most people to eat a meal there. It's more appropriate for a drink and at most an appetizer. Obviously we would not return and would not be surprised if this restaurant eventually closes down. Sorry

Yelp
We sat upstairs and was a bit early, as it was not yet crowded. When we left most seats were occupied. The food was very good! We had Lobster dumplings, the Crab cake raft grilled salmon and the sea bass. The bacon was exceptional, and the fish prepared well. The hipster French were unusual and welcome. If I had to nitpick, the coffee was weak. All things considered I can highly recommend David Burkes' Tavern.

Yelp
Nice place, had a work dinner here and it was very well organized. They had a set menu with a good variety. The vegetarian dinner option was very tasty and had unique flavor profiles! The drinks were pretty good too.

Yelp
Happy hour in NYC? Go here. Not only is the food incredibly good, the service is exceptional as well. We were lucky enough to score a seat at the bar as someone was leaving, but I'd make a reservation next time just to be on the safe side. David Burke has got to be one of the nicest chefs around. He came out and greeted and checked on every ones experience and took photos with those that wanted them. The food was outstanding. Thank goodness I don't live there. I'd be the resident groupie!

Yelp
I fell off a hidden riser near my table & practically split my skull open on a barstool (granted, there was a plaque on the opposite side of our long table that said: 'watch your step', but this was not evident until after I fell, when it was pointed out to me by the 'manager', as though it were my fault the incident occurred). Although the entire restaurant gasped at the fall, the 'manager' (Alex Taylor) could not have been less interested. Didn't offer me as much as a seat and a glass of water in order for me to regain my composure; let alone a return visit with perhaps a complimentary dessert. His only comment, "I am sorry you fell". To David Burke: you are only as good as your service. And your service is pitiful. Won't be back, and definitely do not recommend.

Yelp
Stopped by as a group of 4 for restaurant week and to try out David Burke's prefixed menu. He definitely paid attention to detail in both decor, food presentation and taste. We sat in a cute section where the walls were made of Himalayan salt giving off spa vibes. According to my waiter my steak was aged in the same type of room. The food did not disappoint, and at $39 per person it was a steal. Soooo good and we got to try so many things. We weren't a fan of his signature cocktails, but the food and ambiance def made up for that.
