Dive Into Diner History With These 9 Retro Restaurants

"This Western-themed American diner is hard to miss. The 36-foot tall neon cowboy in an apron out front is far from subtle, making the full-sized fiberglass palomino horse overlooking the outdoor patio seem quaint. It also may be the westernmost traditional diner in the country. William Lyman Davies fell in love with the diners of the East Coast while traveling the country as a restaurant supervisor for over 20 years, but lamented the lack of diner culture back home in Colorado. When he returned in 1947, he saw U.S. 40—the main East-West route through the small city of Lakewood at the time—as the perfect spot for a diner, with throngs of tourists and truckers passing daily. The fact that the closest diner manufacturer was over a thousand miles away would not sway him. In 1957, the two 50-foot-long halves of what is now Davies’ Chuck Wagon were shipped by rail from New Jersey to the foot of the Rocky Mountains. The tabletop jukeboxes are originals, playing everything “from Country to Rock & Roll.” The prefabricated steel eatery is one of the last of its kind, earning it a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. While diners typically attract out-of-towners passing through, the familial staff of Davies’ Chuck Wagon over the years has earned the diner more local favor: 80 percent of the customers are regulars. When a municipal bill was put forth in the 1990s to address roadside distractions that caused highway accidents, the town rose up in support of the diner’s oversized mascot. After a five-year court battle, the diner kept its cowboy. Although diners like this largely fell out of fashion throughout the second half of the 20th century, Davies’ Chuck Wagon became a staple of the Lakewood skyline, standing out much like any 36-foot neon chef-cowboy would anywhere." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Had a great Chicken Waffle here and a Chocolate Vanilla Milkshake. Service was awesome. What a surprise at the end, I figured out that this diner was a piece of history. Glad to have chosen this little treasure place for my lunch. Must visit

Food: my wife got a chicken fried steak I got the chuckwagon sirloin. We split each item to taste the other. The chicken fried steak is something we consistently order at diners/brunch places and this is the best of the 5 places we’ve been to so far. The breading was great, and I’d say they get an edge on the gravy compared to others too. “This is the first gravy of the places we’ve been that actually adds good flavor and isn’t just there” is what my wife said. I wouldn’t go that far as to say the gravy at other places adds nothing, but imo it was noticeably superior. I also got a side of the Fall menu pumpkin pancakes and it was amazing; I’ll have to try their regular pancakes in the future for a fair comparison to other locations, but they were good. I suspect they were Golden pancake/waffle batter (or at least used some golden ingredients), and that’s a good thing since pancakes derived from that brand are the best pancakes/waffles in my experience. The hashbrowns were the best we have had at the 5 places we’ve visited; whoever they had cooking today knew how to actually brown them and make them crispy. The churros were good. Not the best I’ve had, but they were definitely made fresh which I appreciated, so I’d give them a 4/5 on that (but everything else was honestly a 5). They were just slightly overdone in my amateur estimation. Food, visit 2: tried the lunch menu the next day because we enjoyed breakfast so much. The philly cheesesteak was solid. I lived in Philly for 3 years so I can’t give it a perfect score, but I’d say it was pretty close—much closer than I’d expect a diner to get. Fries were solid. My wife got the Rueben. We split both sandwiches so we both got to try both. The Rueben was very good imho. We also got an Oreo shake which was better than at the other diner’s we’ve patronized recently. Overall, the lunch visit was 5 for food, so whether lunch or brunch you’ll be happy. Service: 100% 5 stars. Our server, Jeremiah, is amazing and I hope they treat him well. He was super knowledgeable about the menu and helped guide us through things I’m definitely going to try in the future. He also helped us look through the lunch menu because we loved this place so much I want to try a lunch item tomorrow. He gave us good insights as well—what’s made exclusively in house, what’s original, what contains pre-made ingredients and is less of a specialty, etc. Loved that. He guided us well, and I hope he stays so he can guide us in the future! I feel like this is a place where if you become a regular you’d get treated well. Service, visit 2: We had Jeremiah again and he was excellent. He brought me a pitcher of Diet Coke because of how much of that I drink. 5/5. Absolutely legend. Atmosphere: it’s a 1957 diner on the register of historic places, even if you had a bad experience otherwise, atmosphere is gonna be a 5/5. Sure, it’s old. Rickety. It looks well worn. But that’s the charm. Competing diners try to imitate the 50s aesthetic, but this *is* the 50s aesthetic. It’s actually from that time. And that’s why you want to come here: you drive by and see this grimy, classic nostalgic 1950s diner, and it’s exactly that. So I’d give this a 5/5 atmosphere. Looking forward to coming here tomorrow and in the future. I’ll try to remember to update my review as I try new items so I can tell people what’s good to get. I forgot to take photos of our entrees this morning but attached is a photo of the churros; I’ll try to add more as we return. Edit: for future visits to keep this simple I’ll just add a green mark for items we enjoyed a lot, blue for good but not great, yellow for “okay,” and red for didn’t enjoy. The service and atmosphere remain a 5 until I edit them otherwise. Photos of food will be attached if I remember to take them. Chicken Fried Steak: 🟩 Hashbrowns: 🟩 Steak/Eggs: 🟩 Pancakes: 🟩 Ruben/Rueben: 🟩 Philly Cheesesteak: 🟩 Fries: 🟩 Churros: 🟦 Oreo Shake: 🟩

We came from NC and I had this place on my wishlist forever! I LOVE local old diners, and NC is lacking. The sign was amazing. Love the horse! And the food was better than expected. Great value and quality. I had the steak and eggs (cowboy?) and my husband had the bluebird. Wasn’t crowded. Nice and clean. Great service. 10/10 would def be back

Google
What a throwback to another time! Rustic ‘50’s kind of atmosphere with indoor booths and counter seating and outdoor dining as well. Good menu of rib-stickin’ grub straight from the “chuck wagon” - including a 6 egg omelette - be still my heart - oh, after that, it probably will be! Fantastic biscuit and gravy (in pic it does not look so appetizing, but it was very good); American Eggs Benedict was good (though poached eggs were a little underdone), hash browns awesome. Fast, attentive service and incredible value for the dollar.

Google
A very cool joint that has been around since at least 1958. The staff was ok, and the food good, but just eating there was the coolest for nastalgia.

Google
Worst 30 I spent on breakfast in a long time. The kids pancake meal was missing the syrup, my toast wasn't toasted just bread with butter and I was expecting a warm bread pudding with ice cream as they advertise but instead I received a cold slab with no ice cream, very disappointing.

Google
It had been YEARS since I have visited Davies' Chuck Wagon. I'm not sorry I decided to go back. I will say, I feel like the service was better than the food. I wasn't to give the food a 2.5-3* rating, and that's fine when you have such attentive service. Our waitress was very kind. I didn't catch her name unfortunately, but if you're food is OK you'll get me back with great staff. It's obvious that they do have their "regulars" and it was nice to see the positive interactions there as well as newbies such as myself. All in all, go try it. Enjoy the diner atmosphere. Eat, drink and be kind.

Google
Classic. My parents brough me here when I was a baby, and now I bring my son. A landmark. An institution. If I could give 6 stars, I would. This has been my families breakfast place for literal generations. Never go away Davies! EDIT: (NEW OWNERSHIP). The price has gone up, but the food quality has too. The food was excellent. Their "Colorado Benedict" was great. Not sure what salmon, capers, and pesto have to do with Colorado, but it was great. Sister had the divorce eggs, they were great. Son had the quesadilla, it was great. Between all of us, we were all over the menu, and everyone loved it. So glad that Davies is in good hands! UPDATE: Added photo, the Huevos Rancheros with a steak was amazing! This place is great!

Yelp
A great diner to grab a quick bite to eat. The food was great. I went there for breakfast one morning it was a very good experience all around. I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and it never disappoints The Country Fried Steak is so good! Freshly made at Davie's every day! Highly suggest! Excellent sausage gravy, fantastic potatoes, perfect eggs and tasty sourdough toast. The service is also spot on. Friendly, great recommendations and give it the hometown diner feel. It is such a solid diner. Playing oldies the entire time, old pleather seating, cool pictures on the wall and of course diner seating. Also, very affordable comparatively to just about everything else around! Give it a try, it's worth it! .

Yelp
I really enjoyed visiting this Denver diner that's been around since the 1950s. I'd guess quite a bit of the interior is original, so 70 years old. I sat at the counter and the design has worn off where plates have been placed over the decades. But it's fun to visit and the food is good. I had steak and eggs with hash browns and pancakes, and a cinnamon roll. Pancakes were fluffy and light. Hash browns were perfectly cooked and crispy on top. The cinnamon roll was amazing: buttery and sweet. My only issue was the steak. I ordered medium rare and it was more on the medium side. And it was kind of salty. But it was decent. I ate all of it. The highlight, though, was the service. Super friendly and everyone seems to enjoy working there. My server was very attentive. She topped my coffee off numerous times and was very nice. I asked to have my cinnamon roll after I was done with my steak and eggs, and she timed it perfectly so that she gave me my roll hot and fresh just as I was taking my last bite of steak and eggs. Amazing! If you're looking for good "greasy spoon" diner food, this is a great option.

Yelp
Honestly, I stopped here because it was the only place open to go to the bathroom, but I stayed for the food, and what a treat the food was! Some of the best diner breakfast I've ever had! I got the barbacoa tacos on corn tortillas! The house made salsa verde was incredible!

Susan A.

Yelp
Wow talk about an expensive tasteless breakfast. Remember the "where's the beef" line well here it's where's the meat. A meat lovers skillet with so little meat it was like trying to find Waldo. Thin and I mean thin pieces of ham for the omelette. And sloooow This wasn't our first time here but this will be our last. Bring back the basics. Go back to what you're good at.
google avatar

Ken B.

Yelp
Well....um....ok. It's a diner. Don't expect awesome. Also don't expect that they cannot understand the difference between over easy and over medium. Honestly that doesn't take much.

Jazzmin S.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick breakfast during our trip from Denver to Alma. Opted to get a cinnamon roll rather than a pancake or waffle as my "breakfast sweet". This is the absolute best cinnamon roll I have ever had. God took extra time when blessing the mind of the person who came up with this recipe, and the hands of the one who made this specific roll. The pastry has the perfect fluffy top that is complimented by the moist, flavorful spice blend in the core. You can find a healthy serving of butter & frosting on the side of the cinnamon roll that enhances the roll beyond imagination. Not sure what you're doing if you come to Denver and don't grab one of these life changing cinnamon rolls. I'll forever be chasing the high I felt when experiencing a Davie's Chuck Wagon Diner Cinnamon Roll. 10/10, highly recommend. I'll be day dreaming in Houston about this pastry for days to come.

Yelp
I have been going to Davie's for decades. I remember going here when my son was just a toddler. I have taken family and friends here, even going by myself recently. I have fond memories of being here with my grandfather who passed away 2 months ago. It is a very typical diner and gets busy especially on weekends. I love the pictures of Betty Boop, James Dean and Marilyn Monroe on the walls. They play great music (to me) as well! I have heard 50's big band swing to the 70s and 80s rock. Prices are extremely reasonable and of course their hot chocolate is delicious! I am a kid at heart, I love hot chocolate. I don't drink coffee. My favorite here is the chuckwagon breakfast with a side of biscuits. Parking is plentiful behind the building. They have both steps and a ramp for ADA compliance. There is seating both indoor and outdoor (on nice days). It is easily found off West Colfax between Garrison and Kipling on the north side of the street. They close by 3pm every day. I know they open early but not sure what time. I am not a morning person or at least I likely will not be visiting here early in the morning. I have a quark about eating breakfast for lunch (brunch). Davie's also offers a locals discount when you get 'x' amount of visits or purchases, then you get a certain amount off. I forgot the amount. I believe it is either 10 or 12 visits. They offer both breakfast and lunch items. For lunch, I have enjoyed their Mushroom & Swiss burger and their Hawaiian burger is pretty good too. Tip: make sure what you want is in the to-go bag before leaving. I have asked for certain things or requested things NOT be included and they have either given me what I didn't want, or left out what I wanted. Yes, I am a thorough and selective person. I expect to get what I pay for. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Overall a great experience.

Yelp
One of my wife's and my early dates was when we went out to what was then a backwoods area--free from the city lights of Denver near Chief Hosa. We laid out a blanket and watched the Perseid meteor shower. So breathtakingly beautiful. Afterwards we decided we were hungry and so once the sun was up we decided to go to Davies' Chuck Wagon Diner for an early breakfast. Had the Chuck Wagon Breakfast of steak, eggs, hash browns and toast, that's still on the menu these 20 years later. Cost I think around $4.95 or so back then. Today the price has risen to $9.95, but it's still a great deal. And what's the best thing about that 46 ton railroad car diner that was shipped out to Denver I think back in the 50s or early 60s and is now on the National Historic Registry? Well they're still serving the same Chuck Wagon Breakfast. We were driving up to the mountains yesterday and happened to be going by the diner when we both looked over at each other and without saying a word reached out squeezing each other's hands and smiled. Turned into the diner parking lot, and went in and ordered the same meals. So lemme ask you this . . . how could I give anything less than a 5 star rating to Davies'? Sign me, David "Lucky in love" M

Yelp
Very cute, classic diner atmosphere and friendly staff. Food is pretty good, worth going for the fun experience

Lauren R.

Yelp
Easily the best breakfast of our whole trip. We were seated quickly despite it being a busy Sunday morning. Service was great and they were super accommodating of our young kids (high chairs, kids' menus/portions, bringing their items out first, etc). My breakfast burrito was gigantic and also amazing - highly recommend filling it with their chorizo which is made in house. Pancakes were also delicious. Coffee could have been stronger but was adequate. Bathrooms were tiny but fit the vibe. Disappointed the jukebox wasn't working (my kids had never seen one and wanted to play a song but we couldn't). Overall, I'd go back if we ever make it to that area again.

Naomi P.

Yelp
I moved back to Lakewood a few months ago and one of the first places I ate at was Davies' chuck Wagon Diner because it reminded me of the only place I ever ate out at as a child. My first visit was in August 2023 and was a great reminder of old fashioned diners. The service was good as was the food and I brought a friend for lunch the following month. When my brother invited me to breakfast last week, I picked this place. Sadly, the food quality has deteriorated significantly. I ordered french toast which was dry and not freshly made. My brother ordered huevos rancheros which was tasteless and poorly made. I will not return or recommend this place again. I think this is the end of what what was once a good place to eat.
google avatar

Eden S.

Yelp
This place was so cute with all the nostalgic feels. I had an omelette that was delicious and my boyfriends Patty melt was also very good. We will definitely return.
google avatar

Dale Z.

Yelp
I really want to like this place more than I do. I have friends who come frequently, and they always seem quite happy with their food and service. I've been here a few times now, and my experiences have ranged from just okay to not good. On my most recent visit, I think the biggest problem was that the bleach-based cleaner that they had used was so overpowering that you could smell it throughout the entire diner. The cleaning station is kind of centrally located in this relatively small space, so it's rather hard to avoid. This definitely did not enhance the flavor of my food. I ordered a Denver omelette with Toast and hash browns. And nothing seemed quite right. The eggs were definitely overcooked. The toast was dry. And the hash browns tasted a bit off. This was probably the worst meal I have had here. They were only moderately busy that day, and the service was decent. On other visits, I have had better food and friendlier service. So I'm willing to give them three stars overall, but my last experience was not something that would make me want to come back.

Peter S.

Yelp
Fairly standard diner menu and feel. Friendly people working there, quick service. Good quick breakfast spot

Steve B.

Yelp
I went for the 1st time last week on a recommendation and I was happy that there was plenty of parking when I arrived, I didn't expect a real diner and was happy to try that. It's been added on to, but I was able to be seated in the diner section and that was fun. The service was great, and I ordered the CFS&E, white gravy, eggs over easy. It came out in a reasonable time, and tasted great. I can't find fault, 5 stars.
google avatar

John W.

Yelp
Nice little diner located off Colfax. I decided to sit inside but the outside eating area was definitely appealing especially with the weather that day. The service was pretty good. No real complaints. I was a fan that they had my favorite condiment I like to use with this meal which is worchestire sauce. The quality of the meal was good but definitely nowhere near the best I've had. Overall, I'd recommend for anyone thinking about going.
google avatar

Jay B.

Yelp
This place has a lot going for it but the coffee is terrible. Nice working man's ambiance, classic diner chow, fun old-time decor, good music but not so loud you can't talk, and good service. But the coffee is weak and tastes like its not pure coffee. Maybe some weeds in there.
google avatar

Vincent M.

Yelp
Sanitation Health Code Violation. The steak wasn't well done so sent it back and the cook threw it back on the grill cooked it longer and place on new plate
google avatar

Sarah W.

Yelp
Simple diner to get the job done if you're looking for a quick, classic breakfast or a burger! I always go with the steak and eggs (this time added mushrooms and onions to my hash browns, I highly recommend!) and it's always a great choice for an unbeatable price. The staff is sweet and you can deff tell this is a local's spot.

Sean M.

Yelp
I've live in Atlanta for a hot minute and have sampled many chicken and waffles over the years. Davies' chicken and waffles are easily top 3

J N.

Yelp
Best french fries ever! Seriously! I don't even order them but sneak them off of my partner's plate. After "sneaking" a french frie or two, I had to order my own side. Hope they get their liquor license soon. We will definitely be back!

Gail E.

Yelp
Great food! Friendly service. I would like to see smaller portion options. I had the breakfast tacos (sooo good) but they are pretty hefty and I had trouble finishing two and there were three. Definitely go!
google avatar

Debra A.

Yelp
Not feeling the love. I've had better and more edible biscuits from a cap. Staff has no knowledge of the menu. When queried if the refried beans had lard she disappeared for 10 minutes and eventually a manager type surfaced to say they usually don't but today they did??? If someone has an allergy and didn't know it was thrown in today could have been tragic. I inquired about the gravy if it had meat and was told no only to have server come back to say yes it did. We left the majority of our food on our plates and no one questioned if it was ok. It wasn't. This place is awful... just awful.
google avatar

Heather Marie V.

Yelp
I am now obsessed with this place. I was staying in Lakewood on a trip and learned about it on Atlas Obscura. I have a deep love of diners and stopped in around 10a on a Saturday. I was seated immediately despite it being pretty busy. Service was fantastic, my server was so personable and made sure I got my food promptly and that my water glass was always full. The food is also excellent. I had a hankering for pancakes so got the two egg breakfast. I got a ton of food for under $10. If you're in the Denver area, you have to come in. It's a historical landmark and just a great place to grab a bite.
google avatar

Jason R.

Yelp
I really like this place. I'm never disappointed with everything I've had here. Great price for the steak and eggs.

Ceiteag H.

Yelp
Have always driven by here and decided to try it out for brunch. I'm a fan of good restaurant atmosphere and this place did not disappoint. Not only is this restaurant a blast from the past, the food was delicious. Will definitely be coming back.
google avatar

Casey B.

Yelp
Just old fashioned diner food done well. This was our first time and we will be back. Friendly service, good prices, and the atmosphere is pretty cool to boot.
google avatar

Jennette R.

Yelp
So nostalgic! Having traveled the whole Route 66, I have stopped at my diners but Davies' is such a treat. Such a local establishment, being from out of town, it was great to see staff and customers get the opportunity to catch up on life! Same can be said for customers and customers. The staff were so friendly! Food was on point. Awesome breakfast and then some. Dont let the looks or Colflax deceive you! When you can hear the fryer, you know you are in a good joint.

Alan H.

Yelp
A 10 year Davies customer. New owner, new menu, new prices and loss of taste. Will be a while before I try this again. Sad to see another good one slip.
google avatar

Tony L.

Yelp
The biscuits and gravy is way to peppery and the music is nothing but base. Not pleasing at all. I informed the manager. ? Will try again in a couple of weeks.
google avatar

Rigo S.

Yelp
Chicken fried steak was bomb. Big portions. We enjoy old school type diners and this place fits the bill.

Yelp
I moved here from New Jersey where diners are everywhere you look. This place feels like a little piece of home in the west. My food is always good and I've always had great service!

We come here weekly for breakfast lately the service has been getting slower and slower today two other tables were served before ours and yes we were here before them. Here for 30mins and still no coffee. When I found our server to ask for the coffee she was chatting with another customer who was in line to pay. Asking him how his day was, etc. she was not the cashier. On a positive note weather is beautiful, company was good (with my wife) and food was good once we got it. Oh yeah the order was wrong but it got fixed in thw

Yelp
Walking into the diner you feel like you on a movie set or traveled back in time. The old school feel and history of the diner really provide this place a unique and fun atmosphere. The food comes out very quick and is pretty good, out of all the items we ordered...The golden crispy fries were the standout. It's the kinda food you'd imagine encountering if you were on the run as a fugitive or taking a road trip crossing 3 state borders on a long stretch highway to visit that girl you left behind. So yeah...This place really is a change from the norm...In a good way, it's fun and worth a visit.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the old school diner feel here! Great service, great diner coffee and the breakfast was classic-ly good. Servers were super nice and helpful! Would stop by again :-)

Yelp
I was craving waffles, so hubby and I decided to check out Davie's. I know this place has been around FOREVER, but I can't remember ever coming here. First off, it's pretty tiny, so we were lucky to get seated right away. All of the waitresses were super nice and friendly. We had multiple peeps ask us if we wanted more coffee and diet coke, or if we were ok. Hubby had chicken fried steak and I had a waffle and side of bacon. The waffle hit the spot. Perfectly cooked. I like mine kind of crispy, not a fan of soggy waffles. The bacon was a tad dried out. I think they may have cooked it ahead of time and had it sitting there. Hubby liked it though. Their white gravy is ok, but the chicken fried steak was really good. Hubby has a favorite chicken fried steak spot that he compares all others to. Davies' didn't beat it, but it is a good substitute for when I'm craving waffles again. My only complaint is that the coffee was kind of weak. Not a deal breaker, but I'll keep that in mind the next time we come. Cheers!

Yelp
I'm giving 5-star review given the fact that I keep coming to this place for Sunday brunch right after church. Very friendly waitresses and it just felt like home. Services was so fast. Food was really cheap and good, I think, $7-ish you will get steak+hashbrown+eggs, unlimited salsa, and.. 3 pieces of pancakes. Really good too! Will come home very full and happy after eating here. Updates: been coming here for 1.5 yrs and still loving it! Although I tried other things too, now. Love the huevos rancheros! Make sure you ask for crispy hashbrown. Yumm!

Yelp
It's just the best. If you love great American diner food - especially breakfast but they have spaghetti, Mexican, whatever - this is a must do. But, it's really about the aura of the place. (notice I didn't say 'ambience' which would just be stupid) Step back in time to the 50's where the lady servers call you 'honey' and the service is super friendly, fast and efficient despite the retro look of the place. You will not get a better breakfast at a better price served quicker than here, promise. I think if I was ever seriously agitated about something I'd come here to chill and I bet it would work. It just has that zen to it. Easter at Davie's for breakfast was a treat, and took me back to the world of my childhood where people were kind to everyone, especially strangers, and whether you were in rags or leather or your best shirt, you would be treated with respect and the offer of friendship.

Yelp
How have I not been here in all the years I have lived here? I remember passing this place for so many years when driving to work, and never took the time to check this diner out! This diner was shipped here from NJ many years ago. It is a real vintage diner, and has been listed on the National Register for Historic Places. Being from the east coast originally, this place is a joy to find and enjoy. While it is on the smaller side, as far as the old vintage style diners go, it is totally awesome, down to the wonderful waitresses, piping hot breakfasts, and pure diner culture. This is definitely a wonderful place to visit and eat some traditional comfort food! can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Great place which was transfered from New Jersey in the late 1950s. I had the chicken fried steak, which was an unhealthy joy to dine on. The steak was solid, the hash browns were crisped up right, and the gravy was also well on the rights side of good. I have had a lot of bng, and it always is better the further south you head. This stuff is amazing compared to the crap I get in Chicago, but I want to be fair to and grade it according to what is around.

Yelp
This diner has been here for sooo long and it's been 15 years since I had been here so I convinced my husband to grab a quick bite here. I must say they are VERY fast and a clean but obviously small diner. The reason for only three stars is the selection of breakfast food is limited. If they could update the menu this would encourage me to return. I ordered the breakfast burrito with sausage and it was good but not fantastic. Their green chili is darker than usual but had a good amount of spice. I liked how they used hash browns instead of breakfast potatoes. Those usually just take over the flavor. The hash browns were nice and crispy the way I like them. My husband ordered the huevos rancheros and said it was just okay. I loved that they had French vanilla coffee creamer for your coffee! Overall great service though!

Yelp
Ordered chicken fried steak and it was all burnt. The meat was tough. The eggs were way overcooked. Stay away!!!

Yelp
Perfect typical diner food! Waitresses that know their thing, friendly as can be. It's a quaint place, worn and comfy booths, an outdoor patio, a line cook that whips out food hot and perfectly greasy! The plates are huge! My eggs and hash with potatoes and toast was enough for a small family... omg! So glad i finally got there, definitely a place to stop and enjoy a hearty breakfast!

Yelp
The service was pretty darn good. The food, not so much - the corned beef was canned and still had the indentations from the can in the mush.

Yelp
Great and fast service. The strawberry pancakes were awesome. We left full and happy. Great little dive for breakfast.

Yelp
My mom, who was visiting from Kansas City, and I stopped at Davie's for lunch this weekend. This original 1957 diner with it's tabletop jukeboxes creates a unique experience for visitors. The servers were attentive and very sweet. The food, however, was a different story altogether. I had the BGS (a biscuit, sausage, and egg topped with gravy and cheese and served with hashbrowns), and my mom had the Reuben sandwich with fries. The BGS, although it sounds unique (and delicious), was completely lacking in flavor other than the saltiness of the sausage, and the Reuben was fatty and tasteless and included a cheese SAUCE that I have never experienced on a Reuben. It was more akin to gas station nacho cheese, but white instead of orange. This was a good one-time experience, but I won't go back.

Yelp
Great atmosphere in here. Was anticipating a great breakfast burrito. Food showed up with raw onions sprinkled on top (yuk). No real effort in that green chili-extremely bland. Bacon inside had the taste of cheap hot dogs. Hash browns and eggs made it edible. Perhaps my greatest disappointment was the coffee. Weak and when a little creamer was added-it tasted soapy!! Very nice waitress at the counter. But, she overused the word HONEY. Come on Honey!!
