How to Road Trip the Yukon on a Budget (Updated 2025)

"The Dawson City Firefighters Museum is a by‑donation museum housing more than a hundred years of firefighting history, and a former local fire chief gave me a very personal guided tour of the old trucks he once drove." - Matthew Kepnes

Very small but interesting. It’s totally by donation and I didn’t expect to get a guided tour as part of that - the man who gave the tour was clearly very passionate about Dawson’s fire fighting history!

Small museum located at the end of town, near the ferry. They are proud of the exhibits and that shows. The person at the museum was very knowledgeable and he showed us around the exhibits and trucks, all very well maintained. Entry by donation.

What a find !! Never expected to find a beautifully restored steam engine in a little town in the middle of no where. Interesting tour. Admission by donation !!

I am surprised to see some old fire trucks, in good condition. The staff must have spend lots of effort to maintain them.

Yelp
A hidden gem full of heart and history I had an amazing time visiting the Dawson City Firefighters Museum -- a true local treasure. The exhibits are incredibly well-preserved, spanning over a century of firefighting history. From antique fire wagons to modern engines, the collection is thorough and clearly maintained with pride.

Yelp
This is easily the most comprehensive, informative and worthwhile museum in Dawson and it's clear how much the city's fire department cares about its own history. From an 1897 fire wagon restored out of the firefighters' own pockets, to a garage packed with vehicles from the past 100 years, the collection is grade-A for a town of its size. The caretaker and guide, a 42-year veteran of Dawson City FD, is passionate about the museum and chock full of fun facts -- from why Dalmatians are commonly associated with fire halls to the backstories behind the town's great fires of the 1970s and '80s... most of which he helped fight! Admission is by donation and boy, do you get your money's worth! I bought a $5 DCFD patch, and that cash went directly into the donation box. Happy to know my money can fund and improve museums like this one. It's not the most well-advertised and could easily be overlooked for Dawson's more famous attractions, but don't miss it! It's just a few blocks up from the local visitor centre and is walkable from anywhere in town.
