Yelp
This is easily the most comprehensive, informative and worthwhile museum in Dawson and it's clear how much the city's fire department cares about its own history. From an 1897 fire wagon restored out of the firefighters' own pockets, to a garage packed with vehicles from the past 100 years, the collection is grade-A for a town of its size.
The caretaker and guide, a 42-year veteran of Dawson City FD, is passionate about the museum and chock full of fun facts -- from why Dalmatians are commonly associated with fire halls to the backstories behind the town's great fires of the 1970s and '80s... most of which he helped fight!
Admission is by donation and boy, do you get your money's worth! I bought a $5 DCFD patch, and that cash went directly into the donation box. Happy to know my money can fund and improve museums like this one. It's not the most well-advertised and could easily be overlooked for Dawson's more famous attractions, but don't miss it! It's just a few blocks up from the local visitor centre and is walkable from anywhere in town.
