How to Visit Australia's Great Barrier Reef β€” and Help Preserve It While You're There

"Daydream Island offers tourists the opportunity to engage in citizen science efforts crucial for coral restoration. The island features coral nurseries and custom-built tanks where coral is propagated and later planted back into damaged reef sites." - Travel + Leisure Editors

The island is beautiful, the staff is multicultural and very kind and helpful in every way (shout out to Gabriel, and Maxxi). Our kids loved feeding the kangaroos and the stingray ($50 paid separately) in a immerse experience. The island also offer kayak, stand-up, catamaran and snorkelling at no extra costs any day up to 3pm. Snorkelling at lover's cove is a must-do, specially if the sea is calm. The sunset at love's cove also offers live music and drinks, and is an amazing/romantic experience. The resort also have some tennis table, tennis court and some toddler playground. The down points: 1. they serve Vittoria coffee everywhere on the island, which is terrible. We were really missing a good coffee in our 6 day stay.; 2. everything on the island (perhaps in the region) is at least 20-80% more expensive than anywhere in Australia, from food to boat hiring (which can cost as much as an light aircraft hire with instructor in many parts of Australia). Maintenance: I heard bad things about it before getting there, but got not much to complain. The island is well maintained, common areas cleaned every day, room cleanliness 9/10, comfortable bed, a little bit noisy aircon, but great 4-star rating I would say. Tip 1: if you plan to stay more than 3 days here, you may get bored by the lack of restaurants and activities. Going in/out of the island could be very expensive and time consuming. So plan accordingly. Tip 2: Check the time-sensitive activities on the days you are there, as many things are not available every day (i.e.: morning meditation, movie, etc)

Awesome spot for 4 nights with the family . Kids/teens loved the island and activities. All the staff we met were very friendly. Living reef was fantastic and it was fun to sit by the reef at meals. Food was all good quality, for a family style venue. Our room was great I think we were lucky with the position we stepped out to the 2 main pools.

Rob and Di here. Just thought we would send you a few words on our recent holiday. A few people stood out with thier bubbly personalities, not to take away from all staff we met on our stay. The whole facility was enjoyable. I personally had not been there diving on the reef and enjoying the area with my young family since about 1996. I'm knocking 70 now Di about the same. A shout out to these people for thier friendly and proffessional services. Emerson. Waitress Wayne yardy. Nevaeh / waitress from cooma Sami/ desk Elissa French girl Front desk staff and all we met. It started as a disappointing experience, but the manager Jonathan was incredibly understanding and quickly turned things around. Because of him, we got to fully experience the island and everything it has to offer. Thank you, Jonathan.

While the facilities are good, I believe there is room for improvement in service and cleanliness. I hope the front desk staff can develop stronger service awareness and show more attentiveness to guests. Enhancing the overall hygiene standards would also greatly improve the guest experience. With these improvements, the resort has the potential to become a truly family-friendly vacation destination, much like Club Med.

So sad. Booked 5 rooms for our annual family holiday. Confirmed months ago as superior ocean view rooms close together. Arrived and were allocated standard rooms. No explanation at check in and we did not know until we went to our rooms. Reception blamed the back office. Unable to move us as they were full! Three of the five rooms had issues with either air conditioning or tv. Multiple calls and visits to reception to have fixed. They gave us a $200 credit in compensation. I did not want compensation I wanted Superior Ocean view rooms as per our written confirmation. It just appears they are on a tight budget as they are slowly attending to repairs and maintenance. One staff told me that they wait until it breaks down before they do anything. Food at Infiniti was superb with Salti a close runner up. Dinner buffet is a miss not a great deal of options. Breakfast was okay, consistency an issue. Staff were mainly friendly. Appeared to be a lot of backpackers from all over the world front of house. Will not go back unless things improve significantly.

We had a good little 3 night stay at Daydream island. Was lovely to get away to the warmth and beautiful scenery. Staff were great, friendly and very accommodating. Kids club not open a lot of the time , resort side of island is well maintained and pretty. Downfalls are Not enough options of food, all drinks so expensive (beer $10,cocktails $24, Smirnoff ice $12, soft drink $5), and not many options for snacks. Highly recommend to bring snack for the stay. Lovers cove, needs a lot of maintenance, however, beautiful sunset. Sunset beach could be GREAT, but again needs a lot of love. Good free water sports available from 9am-2pm only, needs longer operating hours. Overall a lovely stay, 3 nights is enough.

Its a beautiful place with amazing and friendly staff. The only down side is there is no AC in restaurants and lobby, there is no room service and due to humid weather and storms there is water damage signs in corridors. In totall we enjoyed our stay and made great memories.
