This was my first time at this comedy club and I loved it! It is small, it did get packed, but it was an amazing atmosphere! The bar tending/waiters were on point with taking orders and delivering the drinks/food to the amount of people. The comedy line up was funny as hell! They did a fantastic job and had many of us laughing hard! I recommend this comedy club for some laughs!

Had a great time at a Wednesday night show recently! We walked in about 30 mins before the show started. There was no line and checking in was smooth. We found a couple seats without much trouble and the view of the stage was unobstructed. My only complain was the food prices. There was a two item minimum and prices were ok for the entrees, but appetizers were almost as expensive. I had a BLT which came with fries and a cocktail. Both were pretty good. The waitstaff were all incredibly nice.

Great place to grab a show and some drinks. All the staff were super friendly and explained everything quite well. The bar downstairs was awesome and the venue space up stairs for the comedy show I was there for was outstanding. Had a great time and I’d highly recommend checking this place out.

Came here for some great comedy and was not disappointed. We had purchased tickets very early for Leslie Liao - but did not know that what we bought got us front row seats! Doors did not open until 6 PM for the 7 PM show which was a packed house. Several people were turned away that came early and most of us waited in the bar downstairs. Prices were pretty high for just a beer and do not count towards the two item minimum for the show. After we were seated it appeared there were only 3 waiters for the entire area which made the wait time for food and drinks a bit excessive. Got served 20 minutes before the show started and the $20 burger was overdone, dry and and cold - and fries were cold - meaning they probably sat there waiting to go out but there weren’t enough wait staff to move all the food and drinks. Been there people. Onion rings and the crispy wings were 💯. House salad was smaller than expected for the price but was still good. Show was fantastic. Leslie Liao was hilarious as was the warmup hostess. Will go back for sure - but management should open doors a bit earlier for bigger acts - or have more staff on hand to accommodate more people and more orders. Will be going back but might pregame dinner elsewhere.

Google
The show was excellent, EJSpeaks delivered as always. The food service was excellent. The food was delicious. It was our first time at this location, we drove 2 hours to support. We would have missed it if we blinked; you truly could use a larger sign. Only if this place could be a tad larger, it would flow. a lot better. We felt like a bunch of sardines in a can (lol), And please, please gut out that lady's bathroom and redo it, it was so small in there that I just left the stall door open to use it... All the best!!!

Google
The prices here are egregious! $17 for some fries is insane. There is a two item minimum purchase per person per show. This on top of the cost of the show just feels horrible. It's price gouging and I doubt I will come back because of the incredibly poor value.

3/25 Update: Was promised a follow-up message from management to discuss my review but never received one. I would’ve appreciated the opportunity to elaborate on exactly what the doorman wearing the Grinch hoodie said to me, my friend, and other attendees—because it was certainly inappropriate to write out in a public review—but it appears management doesn’t actually care. This place will never see me again, that’s for sure! I don’t love leaving negative reviews, but I think my experience here last night when I went for a comedy show warrants one. Be warned if you’re planning to come here for a comedy show, this venue is extremely disorganized, chaotic, and the staff are rude. My friend and I arrived for the 9:45 show last night around 8:30–we’re big fans of the comedian who performed last night and figured we’d get there early to be near the front of the line. Well…there was no rhyme or reason behind how they checked people in, lined us up etc. Staff were still checking people’s tickets (even VIP/preferred) WELL after 9:45, when we should have all been seated before then. Not to mention, the man checking tickets (wearing a Grinch hoodie) was extremely rude and unprofessional to those of us who had been waiting for over an hour to be seated—rolling his eyes at guests, complaining about his job, and then disappearing for several minutes at a time when entire groups of people were waiting to be checked in. When my friend finally asked whether general admission ticket holders would be let in to find seats around 10:00, he began arguing with her and was very dismissive to her and another woman we were standing with. We were finally let into the room to find seats around 10:15, and the show did not begin until almost 10:30. Truly, this place gets one star back because the cocktail server in our section was so attentive and kind, but overall a super disappointing experience.

Google
The only joke in this place is this seat. Completely blocked view. Could not see any person performing. Even more disrespectful to the fact we got there about an hour early and were told to go wait at bar downstairs. Spent a good chunk of money at bar, they never came and got us.

Yelp
Awesome little place! Boyfriend and I were waiting for the Matt Rife Comedy Show and were in there for awhile. Had the pomegranate cider and more. Food was underwhelming, mostly because my garlic fries were undercooked and partially cold in the middles. But I didn't expect 5 star food. Staff was all friendly and the bar is divey, eclectic and awesome. Lots to look at there for sure. We were reading all the stickers.

Yelp
We came here for a comedy show. The tickets said a 2 order minimum was required per patron, but honestly after seeing the limited menu (as well as the prices) I was second guessing my decision to come to the show. The food did take an incredibly long time to come out. At first I thought maybe it's because the show had started expect them other patrons were still getting their drinks. When intermission came I asked our server about the food and she looked confused and asked what we'd ordered. She checked the machine and I don't know if the order hadn't been inputted or what but we finally got our food. It wasn't anything impressive and seemed very standard for bar food; larger servings, cheap ingredients, and a lingering unpleasant feel after eating. While I wouldn't come here for the food I did enjoy the comedy show..maybe next time I'll just order two overpriced sodas and call it good. What we got: Chicken Nachos - 3* average large helping of bar nachos. I did think the chicken was really good and moist. The cheese was standard squirt-y nacho cheese. The jalapenos added a nice touch of spice. I will say I appreciated how they had colorful chips. Pork Bratwurst - 3.5* I actually enjoyed this. The bratwurst had a good flavor and the pretzel bun was very good. I didn't like the large portion of fries and how it didn't come with any dipping sauces.

Yelp
So this is kind of a mixed review being that I attended a Hamilton lecture put on by Profs and Pints which I highly recommend. The lecturer is Dr. Richard Bell, a history professor at my alma mater, UMCP. The lecture is 5 stars all the way. As for the location that's more a 3 star review. It's a dive bar in Dupont that has a minimum of 2 items per order. Inside it is so darkly lit that you will have trouble reading the menu. The food menu is small and basic bar food items like wings, burgers, and fries. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich which was huge and came with waffle fries. It was tasty but was lukewarm in temperature not hot. As far the beer, they were out of some selections but the orange flavored vodka drink I had was nicely tart and sweet. Overall, I would come back for another show either by Profs and Pints or DC Comedy Loft which also host events here.

Yelp
This place is an utter mess. We were there for a comedian in the upstairs; Comedy Loft. First off, they have an incredibly nonsensical entry process. Let me explain. First you wait in line and they verify your ticket. Then they tell you to exit the building and get in another line and they will call you in when they are ready. You as the customer has no idea what is going on. It makes zero sense. Furthermore anybody can just get in that second line and walk right in once you are called. Let's just say I'll be going to comedy events for free from now on because I'll be getting in that 2nd line immediately without them knowing. This makes Zero sense also from a business perspective as it breaks your security. Second, and most definitely the worst issue. The place is very very obviously breaking fire code. The fire Marshall needs to audit this place. And by the way, the management has no idea who is actually in the place thanks to their asinine entry process. Third, during the opening they state there is a two drink minimum for everybody in the place. There is no way to enforce this. I had one drink and they never found out. It's ridiculous. I'll not be returning and you should avoid this place. Conversely, the staff were nice and service was generally good. Oh and the comedy was great.

Yelp
So Good so far. Comedy loft. Good vibes cozy intimate comedy club . Pub grub, burgers, chicken & waffles

Yelp
The shows overall are great, and accommodations for them varies, depending on who is hosting the show. In my experience, it is more of a dinner show venue - I paid for admission to the venue and with the condition to also pay for two menu items. In this case, I ordered a fried chicken sandwich and a tequila sunrise. The tequila sunrise was craftily made and a pleasant drink to have. The fried chicken sandwich came with waffle fries, and while it was tasty, it was not anything out of the normal. Looking at other reviews, I would agree with the assessment that it's a tiny step above the average bar food, but yes, you'd be paying maybe a bit more. On a side note, a performer testified to the audience that her favorite thing there to eat is the Brussel sprouts - so I may have to try that the next time I'm there!

Yelp
Fun at the comedy loft in DC. Sit at the bar while you wait for the comedy. The bartenders are awesome!

Yelp
This place used to be a beer-oriented watering hole. Lately it seems to have lost its charm: there are a good no of taps, which is nice. But beers are rather overpriced for regular taps- $9-$14 for 16oz, and similarly for the limited bottle selection. They used to have a more extensive beer menu and assorted bottles similar to churchkey but they don't have any menu for those anymore and one has to try and spy something in the fridge behind to ask about a bottle. The place still has its charm and all the makings of a nice pub but it seems more just to serve as a starting place for the comedy club upstairs. If their selection was better or if their prices reasonable, it'd mitigate the circumstance.

Yelp
Fantastic service downstairs for the Bourbon County tap takeover. Couldn't beleive there were not more poeple there to enjoy this unique event. Nowhere else that I am aware of in the DC region even attempts to match the Bourbon County Black Friday event. I had not been to this venue since it was the Brickskeller maybe 25 years ago, but will definitely be back based on our experience tonight.

Yelp
Used to love this place. Came here for the amazing beer list and Bourbon County Releases. Now the owner is trying to rip you off. We ordered Manhattans, which is listed on the menu as "A Manhattan" with your usual ingredients including a rye whiskey. $15 each. Owner claims that since we didn't call them "A Kamala" he used that super high end Bulleit rye and charged us $18.5. Also charges a "credit card fee" like he's running a gas station, but doesn't advertise the cash price is cheaper. Total scam. Unless you're looking to get ripped off or like paying $15 for glorified chips, don't come here. We enjoy the comedians that come through here and look forward to enjoying bottomless Diet Cokes moving forward.

Yelp
Overpriced and there was a terrible smell... more than your typical basement/cellar smell, like rotting food or cheese. The comedy was great and we loved the acts but unfortunately we won't be back.

Yelp
I saw three funny comedians here...laughed so hard I had abdominal pain, seriously, the guy from Georgia who shared that he came from a county where looking at a white woman was a misdemeanor, or that he was laid off from his last marriage...hysterical! The beer was good, I had a burger with sweet potato fries, it was good too. People are friendly and it is a great spot for a comedy club.

Yelp
Love that this place feels like an establishment straight out of Harry Potter. It is a bit odd as you walk in and the place looks like apartments and a student dorm bouncer checks your id. Once inside, it is a neat bar! They have trivia nights that are a lot of fun. The bigger the group the better odds you have of knowing the questions, more brains. The food is good. The service is decent. The overall vibe is fun! My favorite parts were the trivia and atmosphere.

Yelp
This is a review of the Comedy Loft, not the bar (which is your basic dive) THE GOOD: The comedy - they get some good comedy acts here. Usually the first act is pretty inexperienced and terrible, the middle is good, and the headliner is really funny. That's it for the good. THE BAD: - the service - it might take literally 45 minutes for them to bring you that beer you ordered. Or an hour. Or it just won't ever come. Probably the worst service in DC. - the food - low end bar food. Stick with fries (you'll wait 30-60 minutes for them, too). - the beer selection - this place has always been famed for beer selection but last time we went they had reduced the beer menu to about ten choices. WARNING: ALWAYS GO TO THE EARLY SHOW BEFORE 8PM. NEVER go to the 9:45 or later show. Why? Because the later shows can be filled with an audience that has been out drinking for 2-3 hours and will contain one or more drunken jerks that will heckle the comedian and ruin the show. And your evening.

Yelp
What can I say .... Came in for a comedy show we had some drinks. The drinks were good and the bartender went above and beyond to make a spicy margarita and was nice. It's a dive it's not trying to be anything else. We had the red velvet cake and it was decent.

Yelp
I came here for the first tome for a comedy show to see David Arnold. The show was amazing. I laughed the entire time. I liked the low key vibe of this place. I ordered boneless wings, fries, and a cranberry vodka. The food was good and the drink was good and strong. My reasoning for 3 stars was that the service was extremely slow. It took time to see our waitress where we had to ask someone else for things. Service definitely needs to improve since they have a 2 item purchase requirement.

Yelp
$18 for 2 Bubba Burgers from Costco and Kraft Singles slapped on a bun. Hard pass. Beer list was good. Way overpriced for the quality.

Yelp
Went to go see Kvon the only Persian comedian in the United States. He is such a creative, and humbled comedian who knows how to make people of all color really laugh. I believe that he is next after Kevin Hart on the list. My favorite Kvon slogan is..."Once you go Persian you don't need another version." Other than the comedy the food at this place is ok, but not the best. Could be top notch if they change a few things, and don't unfreeze the chicken wings, but the waiting service was on point. The fact that they acknowledge active duty military and veterans made my evening. So please be sure to leave a reasonable tip for the 50% off discount they offer. That's more than enough. They need to hire some Latin loving monkey-pigeon comedians that really know how to make people laugh and are also Persian. Just my thoughts! I'd pay to go see them.

Darrell L.

Yelp
I've been there twice, and both times food never came and drinks either look over an hour or were never delivered. Our last time going, the manager/owner could be heard screaming and cursing at staff. Unless they change how this place is run, AVOID!

Yelp
This is a review of the bar and not a comedy show. Came here for a beer event (bourbon county release party). To give context, it's a beer that's released annually and this place was chose to have the beer (and it's variants) on tap at this place. Venue had plenty of seating and we were quickly seated. We were handed menus (attached) which had all the bourbon county options but didn't include any pricing on it. Service was extremely slow and it took a while for our waiter to come back. We inquired about the prices and he had no idea.. and had to go back to figure out the prices. It seemed odd to be hosting a beer release party and not have the prices on the menu and have the waiter not know the price of the beer. In any case, we got our beer which was good. We also ordered an order of fries to munch on. Attached is what we received. There was maybe 3 full fries in the entire batch. The rest were the end buds that they shouldn't even be serving. We were definitely disappointed in them and we sent the fries back. Our second batch was no different. The top portion of fries were full length potato fries and the "fries" underneath were a bunch of buds. I didn't feel like complaining any further but certainly was still disappointed. Overall: service was slow, and this bar failed to execute the most basic of bar foods: French fries.

Yelp
Four words: Magic Mike XXL Show. I came here with a large group of girlfriends for my birthday to see this show and BOY was I pleasantly surprised. We had bought our tickets on Groupon and didn't know what to expect especially once we found out it was at a bar/comedy venue. Once we arrived, it was a breeze getting checked in and seated near the front of the stage. They didn't have a drink minimum which was nice and the show started on time. This event was a blast and the dancers really did what they could with the space they had, I mean, dollar bills littered the small stage and they were still able to pick women up and perform all sorts of tricks for us looool! As far as the service for the bar, I personally didn't get anything except for a shot, but I had a couple of friends who ordered and never got what they wanted and a couple of friends who got prompt service when it came to the food, so I think it just depends.
google avatar

Yelp
The bar still has some of the charm of the old Brickseller - and by "charm," I mean grittiness. However, it has a pretty stellar beer menu. As other Yelpers have mentioned, they don't always have what is on the menu, but the five of us got lucky, and we each got our first choice of beers for 6 of the 7 orders. They have a good showing of local beers as well as some out-of-production beers. For beer fans, this is a desirable spot. The poutine was a surprise item on the menu, but it did the trick! Fried Oreos were good, though the price was a bit steep. Hit the spot, though! Lots of people were here to watch sports games, but you can still hear yourselves think and talk at most tables in the bar/restaurant.

Yelp
OMG!!! What happened?? I used to visit the Brickskeller frequently, but I just recently returned to the Bier Baron for a lecture in the upstairs room. I realize this is a dive bar, and Brickskeller was never polished. As some of the reviewers commented you just feel dirty when you leave because the whole place is FILTHY even by dive bar standards. Plus, the selection of available beer, compared to the published list (at least when I went was very low). After making several unsuccessful attempts to order something, I turned to a random guy and asked "What are you drinking? Do you like it?" After he told me, I turned back to the bartender and said "Fine. Just to keep it simple, I'll just drink what he's having, so I can get a drink tonight." Also, I ate some chicken fingers and fries. I tried to pick something that would be scalded in a deep fryer and came in a frozen pre packaged container to minimize risk of good poisoning :-) The serving was small and overcooked and really dry, but I ate it cause I was starving, and miraculously I didn't get ptomaine poisoning :-) Look. I really try to put each place in proper perspective, and I never expected ass-kissing Michelin service or food, but Bier Baron just doesn't work for me. Maybe I have misplaced nostalgia for Brickskeller, maybe I'm just and old, grumpy germaphobe now, but Bier Baron has no appeal for me on any level. Some people like it, so to be fair read the good reviews too.

Yelp
I know this is "dive bar" but I attended it for an event that required you purchase 2 menu items. I have celiac disease so I am unable to drink beer. I asked for a mojito and was told they didn't have any but the closets thing was a tequila sunrise. It was bottom shelf tequila and I had one sip and they never brought me a straw. When the server came back I said "this was a mistake, may I please have a rum and coke?" And the server took the drink away. I would consider that "sending a drink back" which means I should be taken off the bill as I didn't drink it. The other menu item I ordered was nachos which were disgusting. It was a high school concession stand quality, they came out already cold. I didn't take a picture as I didn't want to interrupt during the presentation. When the check came out (still during the presentation) I saw that the disgusting, warm $17 tequila sunrise was still on the bill. I circled it and wrote a note saying I asked to take it off the bill. If the server removed a untouched drink then I should've been removed off the bill. I tipped because servers deserve living wage but I still ended up being charged for for the drink... I should know better and not order any food or "complex" drink from a dirty looking establishment such as this but since they required us to buy 2 items I thought I would give it a shot. Very disappointing, only get bottled beer here. Too bad I have a dietary disability and am unable to do that :/

Yelp
Came here for a Profs & Pints night (lecture topic was "love"), and it was awesome! It was a very packed house, so I can't blame the service for being a bit slow. It wasn't that bad though, to be honest. We waited maybe 20-30 minutes for the food (including the wait at the bar to order), which wasn't that terribly slow. I thought the servers were pretty attentive for such a large crowd in the restaurant. Some reviews raved about the chicken pot pie, so I got that. And I thought it was all right... It was good, but I had been expecting crust all around the pie; it was served in a bowl, so there was crust only at the top, nothing in the bottom or sides, sad! I love the combination of soft-doughy-yet-also-crispy crust with chicken, so I was disappointed by the little amount of crust there. (Go to Silver Diner for the best chicken pot pie!) However, the chicken pot pie was still good -- one of my friends doesn't like chicken pot pie, but he thought it was good here, so that's something, at least. Garlic truffle fries were good. Beer was excellent -- I tried Epic's Big Bad Baptist stout, and it was fantastic!! We really enjoyed the Profs n Pints lecture and will definitely be returning for more! There are also Comedy Nights, which I want to check out too.

Yelp
Wife and I walked in on an average Tuesday night with a pretty modest crowd ( lots of seats at the bar available ). The two bartenders ignored us for a while before we got up and left. The staff could be overheard complaining about the place while we were ignored. Looks like a standard dump of a dive, it's a shame they don't sell drinks. I guess I'd come back for comedy, but never otherwise.

Yelp
Great comfy shows. Five stars for that. However... Y'all gave no heads up Asif Ali cancelled. I'm not asking for a refund although your policy says I'm entitled to one but YOU GUYS NEED TO DO BETTER and actually communicate this. Next, the AC IS STILL NOT ON UPSTAIRS. Yes we stayed for whoever is filling in. However, we sat through a show last month upstairs also and it was a sweatbox then, too. Why isn't the AC fixed? This is a nightmare of a comedy club I frequent too often and spend too much money in for this to continue. My shower I took an hour ago is effectively meaningless. Do you need someone to buy equity in your venue and pump cash into it? Simply asking if it means the AC will work finally and if it means someone will actually get paid enough to send an email to do the right thing regarding cancellations.

Yelp
GREAT FOOD and atmosphere. We attended a comedy show here and to our surprise the food was amazing. The burger was cooked to perfection and the staff was very friendly. There had about 10 beers on tap with plenty more in bottles. The bartenders attended to all very quickly and never forgot my name although there were many others throughout the night. THe comedy show was good but the crowd was harsh and heckled the comedian... other than that I can't wait to return next time!!

Jimmy G.

Yelp
Great comedy show, terrible service. No manager to be found when we asked to see one. The menu needs to be improved over the fast food knockoff they currently have. Drinks take FOREVER to come out! Come for the comedy, but do dinner and drinks somewhere else!
google avatar

M S.

Yelp
The show was GREAT, content was really funny and the manager was welcoming and informative and overall I would come here again. The food was decent, we had a burger. Our food took a while to come out, and the drinks took even longer. However some of our food never came, and we were charged for it anyway! We made a note of it on the receipt, but were charged for items we never got, which is a very shady business practice. The bar service was slow, rude, and terrible, the bar on the right side by the entrance, we didnt go in the back room on the left. Pros: The show was GREAT. Manager was GREAT. Cons: Service was terrible.Period.

Steven P.

Yelp
If it were not for the occasional good shows and meetups that were here or the decent beer and liquor selection there would be no reason to go to this place. The whole place is dirty is poorly kept, service is terrible (expect not to get most of what you order during a show) and the food is mediocre (ordered the bratwurst sandwich one time and got what seemed to be a small burnt dog turd of a sausage between two stale buns). Worst of all is the place seems to be run by management that does not care and that is likely the root of the problem. While going to see a show in the venue's basement I got drenched in drinks that were spilled on me by a clumsy server, my clothes nearly ruined and I didn't even get so much as an apology or free drink out of it. Once again, I've seen some great shows here but the venue itself needs serious improvement. Would not recommend.
google avatar

Shelby D.

Yelp
I've been here twice, once for a paid comedy show and another for trivia night. If you're just coming here to drink - it's good. You can manage to drink for not that much $$ and enjoy the wide variety of taps. Service can be a bit unprofessional, but it's a bar. I would not recommend eating here, though. My group of friends all ordered food during trivia, and while it came out fast, we did not really enjoy it. It's hard to mess up french fries, and ours were fine - but the burger, chicken tenders, fried fish were really mediocre. Won't be returning if I'm hungry.

Yelp
My first time here...a girls night out....comedy show. The show was very funny. I arrived 30 minutes prior to the show...too early. They were not ready for me to pick up the tickets. She asked me to wait downstairs in the bar. I was told I could order there and eat it upstairs during the show. Downstairs the service was a little interesting. No one really asked or told me how to place my order...they just walked by. I waited for 15 mins and it was time to go in for the show. Inside the show area the bartender greeted us and gave us menus and asked for our order. The food was good. It didn't take to long to come out. Open seating....lots of tables and chairs. (Close, close seating). The bathrooms are very, very small. We went to the 8pm show and they have another one at 945...so there is about a 10-15 window to clear everyone out, so they encourage you to leave out. Street parking limited...I'm so glad we took a Uber.

Yelp
I was at the Comedy Loft yesterday evening with my boyfriend for a 7 p.m. show. We got there about 15 min. after doors opened at 6, expecting to get a fairly decent seat. We were unfortunately stuck wayyy in the back at the bar area. The positive part was that the seats we were in weren't terrible. It was just such a claustrophobic venue that I just felt like I was always in the way. The bar chairs wouldn't push in no matter how hard you tried so a lot of us were sticking out in the aisle. They packed the place so much, my boyfriend remarked that it reminded him of a nightclub collapse in Korea he read about. That did wonders for my anxiety lol! In addition to the packed-in feeling, the food was just meh. I had chicken tenders & fries, my boyfriend had boneless wings & carrot sticks. We both thought they didn't give us enough bleu cheese for him and honey mustard for me...we were scraping the bottom of the cups. Our drinks were pretty watered down (vodka soda for me, just a coke for him). The four items cost $40 with tip. They did have a 2 item purchase requirement, but I don't think they could truly enforce it due to the sheer busyness of the place. We did get to meet the comedian at the end which was super cool but overall, I don't think we'll be back unless it's someone we REALLY want to see.

Yelp
When was the last time you could choose from dozens of beers from around the globe, eat a Shepard's pie ( ground lamb) worthy of its heritage, and pair that with a side of creamy and gooey Mac and cheese? Well???? If travels bring you to DC near Georgetown, this local hang is a must. Sit at the bar and enjoy the local flavor. Choose your beverage (bartenders know their beers and the advise comes with the tab), and try one of the above. You'll walk out stuffed and satisfied. Enjoy!

Yelp
I visited Bier Baron Tavern for a Profs & Pints event, however the service was so terrible it was such a distraction from the event. First off, our waitress brought us the wrong beers which she immediately took back to the bar when we pointed out we ordered dark beers and she was holding light ales. It took another 30-40 minutes for the correct beers to arrive at our table. Our waitress said it was due to the bar being backed up, however sitting at a table right next to the bar I heard her verbally tell the bartender our order a half hour after we placed it. I can understand the bar being backed up, but for a comedy club that frequently holds events, I'd imagine they'd have more than one bartender to get orders out. Shortly after placing our food order we heard our waitress yell and curse at the bartender and storm out of the room. It was another 30-40 minutes before we saw her again. Luckily, our food was brought out by runners. However, we had to get silverware, napkins and another round of drinks directly from the bar as our waitress was MIA. As for the food, I really enjoyed and recommend the Sweet Chili wings and Mac'n'Cheese with Pulled Pork. The food is the only reason I am giving my review 2 stars instead of 1. Though perhaps it was due to an off night, specifically as a result of our waitress, my final thoughts are that Bier Baron is a cool space that is ill-equipped to host the events the venue was built for.

Yelp
Came here for the Monday comedy night- The Comedy Shuffle, which was pretty funny. Most of the comics were pretty solid, were given a few minutes (if not one minute) by the "shufflers" to tell their joke, and were either heckled or given constructive criticism (or applause) at the end of their bit. Thought it was a fun event to attend with friends or a date :D Gives a lot to talk about. The tavern itself has quite a personality, and makes it an even more fun experience, since you have to make some twists and turns to get to the room where the show is. Thought the servers did a good job trying to find people despite how dark and crowded it was in there! Would come again!

Yelp
This is getting two stars out of courtesy for having my favorite beer- I came for a burlesque show with some friends and I have to say- had the worst service I've ever had for one of these shows. I am not a D.C. native, but if I had to say that the staff is- because it just shows in how they treat people. I overheard a bartender making fun of a woman's drink order to her face. While I was completely shocked, I had to order with him because he was the only bartender for a packed house! I ordered food with him as well and it took the entirety of a 90 minute show to get it. Cold. It was a burger. Not that hard. My friend actually bussed tables for others because dishes were piling up and people were uncomfortable. Just don't come here if you have a choice. Will never return.

Yelp
I wish I could put ZERO stars. I came to see Majah Hype and we were so excited because he's an amazing comedian; however, the venue was absolutely disastrous. We were told we could only be seated when the entire party was present but when we were finally together, other people were holding seats I can't comment on the food or drinks, we didn't get anything to eat.

Yelp
I have waited a long time to write this review, as I was hoping management would fix this issue. However, it has now been months and this has not been resolved, with no communications, so here goes... My wife and I went to Bier Baron for their Summer Cask Series. We had VIP tickets, which entitled us to a space to sit, a t-shirt, and tickets to a future event (mainly the Cask Series). The event was fun and we had some excellent beers. During the event, we were asked to complete a form that had our address and contact information so we would be able to receive our items. We did and provided them to our waiter. This is where the trouble began... A few months went by and we did not see anything from them regarding the items and nothing came in the mail. We were prepping to move, so we called. I left a message trying to figure out the issue and stating that, if the items had not yet been mailed, that our address would need to be updated. No response. I called again about a month later, after we moved. I left another message. I have tried on multiple occasions to get through. The e-mail client on their website appears to be broken and, just last week, I sent them a Facebook message off of their Cask Series event for the winter (which comes up in a few days), stating our interest in attending if we could get our items from the last event and asking for next steps. I have yet to receive any response at all... In the end, the really sad part is that the events are a ton of fun and we would have bought tickets again if we had received communications from them. I understand things may get lost or that something can no longer be accommodated, but communications are a must in these situations. Given that management has no intention (obviously) of communicating with its customers and ensuring that they fulfill their obligations, we will no longer be attending these events. Additionally, while they do have a nice beer selection, I can get the same (or better) from a number of other bars around DC (Churchkey, The Sovereign, Quarry House, etc.). As such, my wife and I will no longer be visiting this establishment.

Yelp
Went for a comedy event which was awesome! I love the venue. The ambiance is awesome. But there seems to be a recurring theme in these reviews with the service. Soda was flat, my bill was wrong, and all of the staff was rude. I remember about 10 years ago this place was awesome. Sad to see it deteriorating.

Yelp
Update for my second visit. My original thoughts on the room upstairs still stands, this time I tried downstairs. But the rating is for the entire place. Was in the area and thought I would try out a show in the Cellar this time. Price was fine. Venue is in fact a cellar. The room was maybe a third full, so no real cramping issues when it's that empty. The opening acts were opening acts, and the headliner was a solid performer for this type of show. The whole thing was maybe an hour and 15 minutes. The service is the problem. They had one waiter for the room. Which was maybe for 20 people. I was seated 20 minutes early. Got the two item minimum speech at the door when I bought my ticket. Had my seat and waited for the waiter to bring me a menu, or take my drink order, or ... anything. Was not even acknowledged. At one point I started to ask for a menu, he walked by, completely ignored me. Never got a menu, a drink order in, or spoken to at all the entire show. So that's two crappy service experiences in a row for me.

Yelp
Came here tonight for a Profs & Pints event & really enjoyed myself! They had a great beer selection, good food, and very efficient service. The event was also great. Would've been a 5-star review if the place weren't really grungy inside. I like a good dive bar personally, but this place really looked like it was falling apart! Other than the cosmetic issues, solid place to grab good bar food, great beer, and enjoy cool events. Will be back.

Yelp
Summary - tough to find a beer you would like but the stand up comedy is usually well worth being there. Happy hour specials to eat are nice. Been here a few times with work colleagues for happy hour as well as for stand up comedy events and have not been disappointed at any time. They have good specials of nacho/wings variety Pros Comedy and beer Reasonably priced Cons My beer experiences have not been good. Drinks are kinda average too

Yelp
Bier Baron is an excellent beer bar. The staff are knowledgeable and the selection is beyond impressive. The atmosphere is quite casual. This is the only place I've ever been able to partake of both of my two favorite brews, on tap. (Van de Keizer Blauw and Samichlaus, albeit at different times.) On occasion they have a thematic tap list, so you mileage may vary. (Last time I was there it was all sour beers on draft, for example.) The bottle list is second to none. You will find all styles of beer, from across the United States and around the globe. You can browse the dense tome either by style or geographic origin. The food is suitably hearty fare, appropriate for this sort of establishment. (I recommend the pretzel or the brat.)

Yelp
I've been to the Bier Baron many times now and I absolutely adore their vibe, great service, and sense of character. The Bier Baron has always been a very welcoming space for me, and I appreciate their commitment to their aesthetic and the communities they host upstairs at the Comedy Loft. My experiences there have spanned a number of different circumstances, from sitting down at the tavern for happy hour / drinks to seeing a show upstairs to even performing in one a few weeks back. So I'll break down my review by topic. The tavern: The basement portion of the space is very relaxed and offers a nice sense of removal from the city. As expected, it's nothing fancy, but that's kind of the point. The decor is relatively thematic, if chaotic, with lots of old beer bottles and even tap handles all over the walls. Service is great, attentive, and very friendly. I was with a group of four there for about 6 hours one night, and our waitress was fantastic. Eclectic collection of beer -- I do with they had some more local options on the menu, but I really appreciated the diversity of types of beer and locations of origin that they did have available otherwise. Both beers that I tried were great -- a cherry stout and an espresso stout. Food is solid, but you should expect tavern food and order accordingly. Shows at the Comedy Loft: Came for a Pride-related brunch event on a Saturday afternoon and the place was sold out. It's an interesting space because there are a lot of different levels and sections for such a relatively small space. The performers are easy to see from pretty much anywhere, as long as they are on stage. The staff were working their butts off to keep up with the demand, which I know is extra difficult during brunch when people want drink refills on top of food, and especially when there are performers in your way all the time! But they handled everything with grace and kindness. Tasty brunch food with vegetarian, but not vegan (at the time) options. Performing at the Comedy Loft: What an interesting and exciting space! There are elements of it that are tricky, but other things that make it extra fun. On the tricky side, it is very difficult to see portions of your audience, which is probably good for a lot of people, but difficult when you are interacting with them. The space is tight in the audience, too, which makes it hard to navigate. On the positive side, they have a great set up with solid A/V, lighting, and even a very, very tiny green room that slides along the side of the restaurant. The environment is very relaxed and they make it easy for everyone to enjoy themselves and have fun. They even allowed us to take over the restaurant space to get ready, since a bunch of us were all performing in one night, and were very supportive with anything we needed. I would absolutely love to perform there again. All in all, a great neighborhood place with personality, great staff, and food and drink that serves exactly the purpose one would expect and hope from this kind of joint. Thrilled to have had so many opportunities to visit over the past few months. They'll be seeing me again soon.

Yelp
I reserved a ticket via Eventbrite to attend the comedy block this evening, 7/6, and was disappointed to hear upon arrival that it was first come, first serve and thereby full. Despite the free ticket, I wish I had notification via email or text that the venue was full as it would've saved me a rideshare fee to get to this venue. It didn't help that the front desk lady had little to no information as to why people with tickets couldn't get seated and preferred to be on her cell phone instead. I was looking forward to an evening of laughs but instead find myself headed back home in yet another unnecessary rideshare.

Yelp
I visited Bier Baron Tavern on December 06, 2019 (Shuler King Show). I was required to purchase 2 menu items. I shared with Julia Luechtefeld, Assistant General Manager, that Brittany B provided less than horrible service. I shared that I was charged for an item that Brittany B admitted that was never delivered. However, Brittany B told me that I was required to purchase 2 menu items and the item could not be removed from my tab. Julia Luechtefeld instructed Brittany B to remove such and credit my account. When I checked my credit card statement (days later) it shows that instead of removing the item, Brittany B simply took off one item and recharged me the item she took off. Julia Luechtefeld offered free tickets to a show if I emailed her my name. I have done so. Of course, I have not heard anything from her! Poor business practice at its best.
