17 Best Things to Do in Amsterdam

"The western part of the Canal Ring is a labyrinthine neighborhood, known as De Negen Straatjes (the Nine Streets), filled with independent shops. The act of shopping becomes a full-on afternoon activity as you wander the brick sidewalks searching for the perfect quirky souvenir or gift. It’s full of designer and vintage boutiques, cutting-edge galleries, quaint cafes, and delightfully cluttered antique shops." - Meredith Bethune, Jennifer Ceaser

“de 9 Straatjes” or the nine little streets is an area in Amsterdam that is very typical ‘Amsterdam’ so it’s cosy but also busy because it very touristy. You have some ‘tik tok’ cafe’s with long lines of people waiting. It’s nice for a walk but grabbing a coffee is more expensive if you walk out this area.

Highly recommend this pedestrian friendly area of Amsterdam. Met wonderful people in this cheese shop and this corner bar. Couple of days before kings birthday and we found the people of Amsterdam very welcoming. Locals steered us to Sabo Sebo for Indonesian rice. Fabulous people there too!

Collection of small homes around canals. This place is wonderful in the evening when lights in these homes are switched on. Also much less crowded than other places, so you can enjoy the canal view in a quiet atmosphere.

Colorful boutique shops. Walk the streets along the canals, shop the unique stores, rest and recharge at any one of the plentiful pubs and sidewalk cafes. A favorite area of mine when in Amsterdam.
