"Discovering A Hotchpotch of Goodness Amsterdam isn't exactly known for its stellar food, so finding delicious Dutch food on a busy tourist street at an affordable price on my latest trip was a big surprise. A few friends and I wanted to try Dutch food on our last night in Amsterdam , so we decided to try a place we had passed earlier on Leidsekruisstraat, a street near the popular Leidseplein that's lined with tourist restaurants. Between the three of us, we had eaten dozens of meals in the Netherlands. Very few of them were memorable, so we weren't getting our hopes up. But inside De Blauwe Hollander, we discovered the magic that is hotchpotch. Hotchpotch is a traditional Dutch dish made of potatoes mashed with vegetables and garnished with meat or with cheese croquettes, pictured above. I tried the vegetarian hotchpotch with carrots, but kale, sauerkraut, sausage, bacon and liver are common ingredients. It may just be the best meal I've had in Amsterdam, and for under 20 Euro each including a shared bottle of wine and dessert, it may be also be one of the better dining deals in Western Europe."

Attended for Sunday evening dinner here at De Blauwe Hollander after looking for authentic Dutch cuisine and we were very happy with our choice. Firstly I must thank our Spanish waiter (Sorry I did not get his name) but he was brilliant. Very inviting, friendly and polite. He was always ready to attend to our needs. The setting is cosy and great for a couple looking for a nice meal together. The restaurant is quite popular so you may need to book in advance or if its just a few of you then you could turn up on the off chance of finding a free table. The food was brilliant. We both enjoyed our starters and mains. I had the tomato soup and had a great homely taste, nice kick with the pepper also. For the main I had the steak and gravy which I enjoyed very much. We would have gone for a dessert, but we were both too full at this point. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for homely Dutch meal. Our time here was memorable and we both left very happy. Thank you for the amazing food and memories. One day we shall return!

Google
Small cozy resto that serves great Dutch food. We came in with no expectation but the food turned out great, very friendly staff as well. The tomato soup was my personal favorite though, I finished it clean and clear 😅 Recommend to make reservation in advance especially during peak hours

Google
A very charming place with excellent service! We were lucky to get the last available table. The food was absolutely delicious and well-prepared. The waiter was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I’d definitely come back next time I’m in the area. Highly recommended if you’re looking for authentic Dutch cuisine and a nice atmosphere! But it's better if you reserve a table! Haha

Google
Nice dutch food! We had the carrot 🥕 and endive stamppot and both were very nice- but different. If you like tender meat, get the carrot one. As starter we had bitterballs and those were also super, reminded me of Spanish croquettes. Dessert was disappointing. The Vlaflip could have had more fruit. It literally had 1 piece of strawberry. My friend got ice cream with strawberries - which that was fine but nothing too interest. Strong point- get the savoury stuff! Recommended.

Google
Great place to get traditional Dutch food! We stumbled on this place in a happy accident! I usually plan my restaurants while traveling ahead, but I had wanted to try Dutch food this day, so we found it via google and happened to be right down the street. It has a quiet and dark exterior which creates a relaxing almost homey atmosphere. For drinks we I had a glass of wine and my husband had a beer. We ordered the Stampot with sausage and the Herring to split. The service was polite and efficient and they were very cognizant and accommodating for my nut allergy. Even with a large party of 10 the service was still quick and the food quality was great! This would be a smart pick if you are traveling and want a traditional Dutch meal experience without touristy prices or crowds.

Google
My wife and I were looking for some authentic Dutch cuisine and were recommended this restaurant. It was fantastic. We arrived without a booking at 5pm on a Tuesday on early March. We were given a table no problem. We both chose stomppots. My wife one with smoked sausage and sauerkraut through the mashed potatoes. Mines was with a gigantic meatball (the biggest I've ever seen) and fries bacon bits. Both were delicious, my wife in particular was in food heaven. I wasn't quite there but the dish was really good. If you want dutch cuisine this is a place you should checkout. Not the cheapest, but then again nothing is cheap in this city. Highly recommended.

Google
Excellent choice for authentic Dutch food. We happened to stop in while walking by and were lucky to get a table for two without a reservation. Service was amazing, especially our waitress, Aaliyah. We tried the spinach & meatball and sauerkraut & sausage Stamppot's and they were both fantastic. Definitely worth a visit!

Google
I really enjoyed this restaurant. I went alone on a busy Friday night, but they let me sit outside, and sat me fairly quickly (with no reservation ) for how how busy they were. The stamppot with the endive and meatball was excellent, such a hearty and satisfying dinner. I really thought I was in someone's dining room at their house for Sunday dinner. I would definitely come back here, really good and professional staff too.

Yelp
Great find for us tourists! Efficient and friendly staff, really good food, and reasonable pricing. Wife had salmon( excellent, and we cook salmon at home twice a month), and I had dutch dish called stampot: very filling and tasty ( I had sausage version, and many people had it or the meatball). Dessert was yogurt paired with custard: went together really well. Not a huge place, so had a nice vibe. Totally recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
We arrived early on a Saturday night, which is the thing to do if you don't have a reservation. I ordered the € 26 meal (appetizer, main, dessert), while my husband and son ordered the € 32 version (fancier choices of the same 3 courses). They got beers; I ordered a small bottle of water. Our total bill was € 108.50. I ordered the split pea soup, the stamppot with carrots and onions, and the yogurt/custard dessert. The soup was good, the dessert was very good. My quarrel with the stamppot is that the beef was not lean. When one bites into meat that is covered with sauce, she does not expect to discover inedible pieces of fat to deal with. My bigger complaint is the all-caps "TIPS ARE NOT INCLUDED" line printed in English (almost everything else on the receipt is in Dutch) at the bottom of the bill. No... "tips" are not included, but the service charge is, and that's what allows servers in Europe to earn an actual living. Yes, if your server did an outstanding job, you can leave him/her a tip and it will be appreciated. But the way this was written suggested to me that the restaurant was trying to mislead its English-speaking customers.

Yelp
Traditional Dutch Food. A must try if it's your first time in The Netherlands. Service was great - very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Truth be told, we had The Pantry on our sites after a night Amstel River cruise. There was a line and we were too hungry & tired to wait, so we Yelped for another Dutch restaurant. Out pops De Blauwe Hollander "The Blue Dutchman". Online reviews were decent and the dishes we were looking for were in the menu. We quickly realized that they were right across The Pantry, so that was a relief for the weary. There was no wait as we got seated on a table for four. Seating was intimate as our area of the restaurant was packed. We then proceeded to tick off the list of recommended eatables when in Amsterdam. [/] Bitterballen. Thick stew encapsulated in deep-fried balls with Dijon mustard [/] Red Berry Jenever. Juniper flavored Dutch gin [/] Slavinken. Ground pork and beef wrapped in bacon [/] Poffertjes. Bite-sized fluffy pancakes sprinkled with powdered sugar. We left with contended tummies as we proceeded to tram back to our hotel.

Yelp
Food - 4 Value - 5 Service - 4 Ambiance - 4 First time trying traditional Dutch cuisine - ordered the stamppot with meatball and endive, as well as a glass of wine for myself. When you combine meat, potatoes and sauce, usually things turn out well, and that was definitely the case here -- main course was flavorful & rich while the portions were massive for great value and I went back for another stamppot elsewhere the next day. In hindsight, I do wish I had ordered the carrot and beef stamppot - some of my friends did and that was much more flavorful and delicious. The few things that I didn't love holding it back from 5 stars: 1. This stamppot didn't really have much of the endive in it. Now, the dish is primarily meat and potatoes, yet I felt that other places I went to in Amsterdam (knowing this will naturally vary by restaurant) did a much better job of balance 2. We shared one of the yogurt desserts and it didn't really hit the mark. Felt too tart yet also having the consistency of a custard all at the same time 3. For some reason, my wine didn't feel fresh - almost like it'd been watered down. Ordered the same type of wine the next day and was fine... Still a solid dinner and while I wish I could've saved myself a glass of wine's cost this night, I got 1.5x meals worth of value from the main course which makes it a worthwhile go.

Yelp
The food here is excellent, and a great way to experience traditional Dutch cuisine. I've been super curious about stamppot, which is a Dutch dish that has mashed potatoes on the bottom and some type of meat (i.e. sausage, meatball) garnished on top. Potatoes and meat are easily one of my favorite combinations, and so I decided to order the stamppot hutspot, which is carrots / onions mixed into the mashed potato + a slow-cooked piece of beef on top. I didn't have many expectations going into this dish, but it was the definition of comfort food -- hearty, rich, and the kind of meal you'd want on a cold day. The carrots and onions provided a delicious, tasty addition to the mashed potatoes, and the beef was so tender that it fell apart as soon as I cut into it. All in all, De Blauwe Hollander certainly delivers on great stamppot. I would definitely come back when I revisit Amsterdam.

Yelp
If you're looking for a Dutch meal this is one of the few locations in Amsterdam. We shared Endive stampot, Bitterballen and smoked Salmon puff pastry for our dinner. Everything was served hot and very tasty. It's usually very busy requiring an advance reservation, however a few lucky people were taken as walk-in while we were there. It wasn't too noisy, it does get busy, busy

Yelp
Yummy Dutch comfort food, and generous portions. Could barely finish, shared my dinner with my daughter and still a lot of food. Ordered the set menu 1 with the kale and sausage stamppot and tomato soup, and the yogurt dessert. Enjoyed it all!
google avatar

Yelp
The food was authentic Dutch "traditional" which was quite tasty. The atmosphere and layout is what one would expect in Amsterdam. The service left a lot to be desired. We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation (STRONGLY recommended, as we saw a few parties turned away and told a minimum 20+ minute wait). Our drinks and single shared appetizer arrived in a reasonable amount of time. However, our entrees were not brought to us until about 40 minutes (and two checks with the wait staff) later. To describe the staff as being apathetic would be giving them credit for being more attentive than they behaved. Granted, this was a Sunday lunch the day after Kings Day, which might have been a contributing factor.

Yelp
This place was great. We made reservations and all had traditional Dutch dishes. Most of us had a variations of Stamppot and it was all delicious. Service was great, food was great, I highly recommend if you're looking for traditional Dutch.

Yelp
If you're looking to try some of the Dutch comfort food, this is the place to be. I've been here several times, and never disappointed book early. This place fills up quickly.

Nice people. Pets-friendly. Authentic local food. Great atmosphere. Absolutely good choice if you're new to this country and want to try some local food.

Yelp
This place somehow did not make it to my list of spots serving up local cuisine. I saw the place The Pantry across the street has a reputation and is a very popular spot so I dragged my family here in a drizzle to sample that. The long queue outside was a deal breaker though. Fortunately, this place was across the street and had pretty good reviews. I was THRILLED when I saw that they serve a vegetarian stampott which had been on my list to try. We were able to snag a table after about a few minutes of waiting but others were turned away due to capacity. The inside is pretty cool. There are really interesting light fixtures that contribute to the vibe. The servers were friendly but way overworked. We had to wait a while to order dessert and then again to pay. Like, a very annoying while. We ordered the combo young and old cheese plate, the bread board (with 3 spreads!). I ordered the vegetarian stamppot and GF ordered the fresh herring. I'm wondering if the "young and old cheese plate" is a farce because I couldn't tell the two cheeses apart. They were served with the standard mustard. The bread board was standard, white, sliced italian-like bread. The spreads consisted of an olive tamponade which was very good, a butter, and a flavored mayo. The last two weren't bad but nothing special. The vegetarian stamppot was INCREDIBLE. It's luscious, soft, creamy, and absolutely delicious. They have a bunch of stamppots by the way, I went with the kale to feel better about myself. The veg version swaps the standard sausage or meat with cheese croquettes which were also fabulous. For dessert, we wanted to order the apple pie but they were out. Instead, we ordered poffertjes served with a dusting of powdered sugar and vanilla ice cream. They were pure heaven. If the service was more attentive, they would have five stars without a doubt.

Yelp
Around since 1979 and submerged in a blue ambiance to pay respect to the color of Marine uniforms of the Dutch, this is a legendary spot. Seasonal classics shower the menu including pea soup and exceptional stews. Slavinken is a staple dish I had never had. A meatball rolled in bacon with amazing veal gravy submerged underneath. Incredible.

Yelp
Food was delicious, staff were kind. They made great recommendations. I was here 3 times on my visit and I don't regret it.

Yelp
Very good Netherlandish food! My family had dinner there and we all enjoyed it. Love their mashed potato with minced vegetables

Yelp
We wanted to eat here as there are very few authentic Dutch restaurants in Amsterdam. We were turned away, and rudely I might add, the first time and they advised us they couldn't take us for at least two days. So we made a lunch reservation for 2:00 two days as we were told. We happened to be in the area that date at 12:30 and popped in to see if they could seat us early as their booking app showed available reservations beginning at 1:00 and for most of that afternoon. Again we were turned away. I asked if we could change our reservation to 1;00 as their booking app said there was availability. They were extremely rude and said they had no tables. I showed them the booking app and was told they don't care what it said. After being treated so badly twice, we decided we didn't want to patronize their establishment

Yelp
Ok. I am not an expert on Dutch food but my American palette was thrilled with what was delivered. Bitterballs, deep fried cheese and sausage. Enrten Soup, just a spectacular split pea soup and sausage and kraut, kind of like Kristen and potato. Just heavenly.
google avatar

Alan L.

Yelp
Good Dutch food in a comfortable setting. The restaurant is located in an area with many restaurants. The entrees are Dutch comfort food. The Endive with Fried Bacon and Meatball was particularly good.

Maria L.

Yelp
Fair. Service was pretty bad. Took over 20 mins to get drinks. People sat next to us after us were served before us. Herring starter was very good. Wrong main delivered but didn't send back bc didn't want to prolong the meal. Never asked for additional drinks or any follow up. Only went here bc Pantry was full. Would not return or recommend. Too many other options.

L G.

Yelp
Nice Dutch cuisine classics. A bit crammed inside. Ordered the Entrecôte with pepper sauce, rare, and it was served well done or worse. Shouldn't have ordered this dish from such a tourist-focused restaurant. Wife like Stampot with sauerkraut and sausage.

Yelp
After an unsuccessful attempt at trying to get into The Pantry without reservations, we ended up having our last dinner in Amsterdam at De Blauwe Hollander. Located literally steps away from The Pantry, this was a solid last-minute pick that I'm happy we discovered. The food was very comforting and satisfying. Though the menu contains a variety of options, it would appear as though this restaurant specializes in Stamppot, a traditional Dutch dish made from a mix of mashed potatoes and vegetables. Most of the people inside were eating it, and it looked delicious. I decided to order the Stamppot "Hutspot" Carrot and Onion with Tender Beef (15.5 euros). I believe this is their most popular item, and I highly recommend it. Overall, the food far exceeded our expectations. The Stamppot really is comfort food at its finest. I'm very glad to have discovered this traditional Dutch dish on my last night, as it was easily one of the highlight dinners of our stay in Amsterdam. If looking to try something good and traditional, look no further. De Blauwe will not disappoint!

Yelp
My husband and I loved this place. We're visiting from NYC and wanted local Dutch food. We went with the pre-fixed options at the back. It was all delicious. He had the stampot and I had the chicken sate. We devoured it. The apple dessert was amazing!

Yelp
We had a group of us come here for some traditional Dutch food, and it was great. Make a reservation, though, as the place fills up fast. It's located in a busy area with tons of other restaurants, bars, and clubs, so there is no shortage of what you can do after dinner. The tomato soup was thinner than I'm used to, but it tasted far more fresh. I greatly enjoyed the stamppot, but others at my table weren't so keen. There is a carrot and onion mashed potato mix topped with brisket type beef. The gravy that it is topped with is fantastic (pro tip: dip your fries in the leftover gravy and you won't be sorry). The yogurt and vanilla custard with raspberry sauce was best (in my opinion) if you mixed it up - it came out with a thinner yogurt on one side and a thicker custard on the other, and they balanced each other well. Otherwise, water was 8€ and a gin and tonic was about 17€ because you get the gin and tonic separate. So pricing on drinks was really my only complaint. Otherwise service was pretty quick, and I would come back again if given the chance.
google avatar

Stuart G.

Yelp
Great traditional Dutch cuisine. Stamppot was very good. We all had a variation of it. Proffer ties for dessert were amazing!
google avatar

Yelp
Best meatball and mashed potatoes EVER!!! Without a doubt one of my favorite places anywhere. If you have never had a Dutch meatball...Stamppot Endive with bacon bits and a meatball...you need to try this. Great on a cold day!!!!!
google avatar

Carol L.

Yelp
This meal was interesting, and something I'm glad we experienced - although Dutch cuisine might not be my go to cuisine, I'm glad we came to a classic restaurant to try Dutch food. Great service, and great recommendations from our server who was very attentive to us the entire time. Good location too.
google avatar

Adrianne M.

Yelp
i had the vegetarian cheese croquettes with mashed potatoes mixed with carrots and a butter sauce. it was honestly quite bland and i feel they could have done a much better job with the flavors. although my partner who had the sausage dish really enjoyed his. the restaurant is very elegant and more of a date night vibe.

Fred B.

Yelp
We loved this place. Only sorry we dined there on our last night in Amsterdam. Would have gone back again if we had more time.
google avatar

Yelp
This is one of the very few Dutch restaurants in Amsterdam - Amsterdam has a lot of cultural choices for food, but you don't go to Amsterdam to get American food, so you want the full experience. However, if you want the full experience and your time is limited, it's tough to get a reservation in, some times it takes days. I reserved this place a day in advanced and apparently that wasn't enough time, there still wasn't a spot for me. I told them I was willing to sit outside but it got cold really quickly and so I ordered hot tea to keep warm. Finally, someone cancelled and they moved us inside and it was smooth sailing from there. The hostess may seem mean at first, but she was really nice to us once we were inside and checked on us a lot. The restaurant is a small place so I completely understand why they have to turn people away often. The waitresses were all wonderful and helpful with the menu. To start, we got the cheese plate and it was delicious. My husband's dish came with a split pea soup with bacon. My kids shared the kids plate with fish sticks, salad, cheese and applesauce. Then our main dishes: I got the Dutch Bouillabaisse, which has cod, mussels, shrimps, paprika and herbs. It was delicious and very filling. My husband got the Dutch version of meat and potatoes, the Hotchpotch (Stamppot) with beef, onions, potatoes and carrots. It was phenomenal. For dessert, we had some stroopwafels with coffee. The meal was delicious, service was wonderful and besides the wait time and the reservation issue, it was one of the best meals I had in Amsterdam.
google avatar

Juan G.

Yelp
The appetizers and the setting was nice. But the main courses were too long of a wait. We ordered the bitter balls (bread gravy balls) and the white asparagus cream soup for appetizers. Both were served at a good time and both tasted good. But we received our main dishes 40-45 minutes after finishing our appetizers and the waiter never came around to ask if we needed more drinks or anything. And we weren't the only ones receiving our main dishes late. Everyone in the restaurant was looking around as to say, "where's our food". Especially every time the waiter would walk into the dinning area with plates in his hand. I ordered the ribs with French fries. The rib meat was straight out dry. I left half of it on the plate. The fries were the star of that plate. My wife ordered the salmon in Hollandaise and mashed potatoes. The mash potatoes were straight out bland. Steamed white rice would have been more flavorful. Not for me.

Gene A. B.

Yelp
The food is good but tables are very crowded and there was a long delay in receiving my third course, which was just a dessert. I asked for it twice and it took almost an hour. This left a bad impression.
google avatar

Risa Y.

Yelp
This was the only Dutch food that we got to eat in Amsterdam while we were there. I've never had authentic Dutch food before, so I can't really measure the authenticity of the place, but I have to say that the food was pretty good. I ordered the Meatball over mash and my bf ordered Braised Beef over mash. The Kale mash was really good~ better than the carrot mash that came with the Braised Beef. The braised beef was a bit too salty for my taste but the Meatball I ordered was delicious :) I really wanted to try Kartoffel Kroketten which is a potato croquette, but we had no space in our stomach :( I also wanted to try the Herring but it was raw, and I had a plane to catch later, so I passed on it lol. Next time I go to Amsterdam I want to try more Dutch food since it's super hard to find it in the US!
google avatar

Dave Y.

Yelp
Traditional Amsterdam food! I came here by accident. Originally, I was supposed to dine at the restaurant across the street - which was too packed. In a last minute ditch effort to avoid the rain, I ran into this restaurant, and boy, was I pleasantly surprised and happy! Everything about this place reeks with traditional Dutch feel - from the ambiance, to the menu, to the servers, to the beer, and food. Love it. Do the Stamppot. It's what this place is known for and good for. I got the beef and potato stamppot. Love it. Be sure to try the beer in season. I love it as well.
google avatar

William R.

Yelp
Very busy when we were there during the dinner hour. Seating can be quite tight and felt crowded to our American sensibilities. Service was very spotty with multiple servers in a hit-and-run technique ending up in a misunderstanding with the food order. When the food finally showed up it was quite good.
google avatar

Lea W.

Yelp
Englisch  Very good restaurant and definitely recommendable. We Had spareribs and chicken sate. Both excellent. The spareribs taste like Christmas. :) The service is always there and very friendly and the prices are ok --- Sehr gutes Restaurant und definitiv weiter zu empfehlen. Hatten Spareribs und Chicken Sate. Beides hervorragend. Die Spareribs schmecken nach Weihnachten. :) Die Bedienung ist immer da und sehr freundlich und die Preise sind auch OK.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
Popped in and were fortunate enough to get a table for three. The prices were reasonable and service was slow, but typical for Amsterdam. Mashed potatoes were very good. Salmon was not flavorful. My daughter's meatball was salty. Overall cozy environment.
google avatar

Elliot G.

Yelp
Mediocre food, no wait was the only plus. Maybe this place used to be good - we were able to get the table on Friday night without reservation or waiting. Food was so so, we ordered mussles and asparagus. Asparagus was ok, mussles had a very strange smell and taste.
google avatar

Cindy K.

Yelp
Traditional Dutch dishes in a very nice atmosphere. The Poffertjes were great and so fluffy :)

Yelp
We wanted to try some authentic Dutch food so I looked up places on yelp and found this spot. It had 4 stars, so I thought why not give it a try. The restaurant has a nice and cozy ambience, but the service could be improved as the waitress who took our order had a bad attitude. My mom only drinks hot water (cold water is not her thing). When I asked for a cup of hot water for her, the waitress rudely responded with "we charge for water". Yeah ok....whatever. I can afford that cup of water and then some. The male waiter was much more friendly, I noticed that he said hello to every table he served before taking their orders. Even the lady that brought us our food was also friendly, she is probably the saving grace. Overall, the food was good, the stamppot and bitter balls were good. But the salmon and pea soup were a bit disappointing
google avatar

Yelp
The food was great, the service was superb. Abi (sp?) Was so friendly and helpful with recommending dishes to get and also wine. This was our first Dutch meal and it was fantastic! Highly recommend this restaurant for trying out a Dutch meal!

Yelp
Stumbled on this place on our first day in Amsterdam while walking from the museums to Rokin, and so glad we did. We had such a great experience that we brought our friends the next night! Over our two meals we had fabulous service from Sergio, who was so friendly, very informative and gave guidance on what to order for our meals based on some dietary restrictions. Over the two meals, my wife and I had the cheese croquettes and side salad, the tomato soup with leeks, the vegetable pie, the vegetarian stamppot, and a veggie burger (new/temporary? item due to a mixup from their supplier-they were supposed to have gotten vegetarian schnitzel which would have been great to try). But I digress! All food was fresh, tasted wonderful and was plentiful. My favorite was the vegetable pie, a very unique and tasty dish. We also ordered beer and a trio of genevers (after having just come from the House of Bols Museum). Sergio was gracious enough to let us try the 4th genever on their menu as a comparison; and, at the end of our meals, brought us a glass of Hemel op Aarde (Heaven on Earth); which is now our new favorite dessert liqueur!! I realize this restaurant is in a touristy area; but for the value, tasty Dutch cuisine and great service, I highly recommend this place!

Rich K.

Yelp
First time here and really enjoyed it. We had to shift tables to make room for a larger group. No biggie and we got a free drink. The bitter balls were good first time having so no basis for comparison but loved the mustard. The ribs were super large portion and very tasty. Potato and sauerkraut was also very good. Portions were so big had no room for dessert but may go back for the apple cake. Wait staff was friendly. Would recommend.

Yelp
Favorite restaurant in all Amsterdam. Period. It's not a trip to the Dam without their traditional split pea, and of coarse, I'm all about the straight up up meat and potatoes. I recomend the stamppot... either the roast beef and mashed, with carrot and onion, or the meatball in mashed potatoes, with endive and bacon. Since the first time I came to the Dam, nothing has compared. You can't beat traditional perfection, and a taste of culture. Here, they got it spot on, with exceptional service and a smile.

Yelp
This was listed as place closes to my hotel for Belgium cuisine. So glad others before reviewed this on Yelp and Google Map. The food was well prepared and hearty. I ordered stomppot (comfort) and bitter balls. Travelling for work means having to eat solo often, there was other solo guest and the staff were so kind that I never felt unwelcome or out of place.

Yelp
This place was great. It gave me and my husband an good snapshot of traditional Dutch cooking with a slight modern twist. We loved the little deep fried balls. According to my husband, they tasked like thanksgiving. I agree. I had a delicious pea soup and my hubby got a meatball with mashed potatoes and endive. The meatball was perfectly seasoned, but the potatoes needed salt. Everything was good overall, but needed a bit of salt- I gather Dutch food uses less then us Americans. Dessert was my favorite. We ordered the tiny Dutch pancakes with melted butter, powered sugar and vanilla ice cream. It was life changing. The ice cream tasted so much better than anything we have here in the states. I totally recommend this place for anyone visiting Amsterdam who wants to a taste of traditional food.

Yelp
I am Dutch and can say that the food tastes exactly the way it should. The staff is all Dutch making this a real Dutch restaurant. However when I was there the wifi was down, the service mediocre (although friendly), the music a little strange and switched off all together at one point. When I asked if the tow of us could each pay for yourself by card, we we're told this is not possible. Also the tables and chairs are old.

Yelp
I certainly had a good and unique meal here. The main dish is basically mashed potatoes with a slab of meat on top. Get the three course dish, comes with soup, that meat thing, and desert (usually pudding, which was great). The price isn't outlandish and you'll feel pretty fancy eating here. Likely should limit to 2-4 people, it's pretty tightly packed, so you'll be sitting next to strangers if you don't take up a whole table (kinda cool).

Yelp
Good meal overall. According to the wait staff, the owners father is a local butcher so cuts of meat are good and fresh. Three servers for the whole restaurant meant service was spare and in traditional Dutch style, they won't bring you the bill unless you ask! As we found with many restaurants, you don't get much say in where you want to sit...they tell you based on how busy they are. I had a steak and my wife had the "tender beef". Both were quite good.
