After 14 Years, De Cero Tacos Closes on Randolph - Eater Chicago

"The fancy taco spot at 816 W. Randolph Street lasted 14 years and saw the West Loop morph from meatpacking center to its current trendy state. Many customers would gripe about De Cero’s prices, unaccustomed to paying higher prices for Mexican food compared to a late-night taqueria. But the tacos had homemade tortillas, the salsas were fresh and flavorful, and the menu has vegetarian options." - Ashok Selvam

Simply put, the food was incredible. We got chips and salsa (really good value, especially since you can take the salsa home) which as delicious, it seems like the chips are made in house and are a bit greasy with just the right amount of salt. The tacos were fantastic, the steak and carnitas had excellent flavor while the chicken seemed a little too spicy for my taste (though when my mouth wasn't on fire I enjoyed the flavor). The margaritas were also good. All in all, this is probably my new favorite taco joint in the city, partially because it's nearby and partially because everything was so darn delicious.

I had their tomatillo salsa which was phenomenal, probably best I've ever had. A very pricey place, though. I also had a margarita which was good, I've had better. For other food we also ordered the duck nachos which were not like traditional nachos, since there were about 10 chips total for the whole dish. It was still good because I was not overwhelmed with chips like normal. The salsa and chips were a la carte. I would recommend if you're willing to spend significantly more for a modern take on Mexican cuisine.

Not bad Mexican food, but by no means the best on Randolph St. The salsas were good, home made chips but were a bit too thick and greasy for my liking but the tacos were tasty. Would come again but i wouldn't be the one who picked it.

This is a very interesting environment with cushions on the wall but a classier, funkier feel. The salmon tax is good, but do lettuce instead of the corn tortilla. House guac is pretty great and the chips are incredible. The margaritas are too expensive and just not that good and served with too much crushed ice. Fist cheese tamale is ok, but a little dry. Salsa is a la carte, which is unusual. Go here with a bunch of people and split a bunch of things, otherwise it's sort of unenjoyable to order each of the things you're expecting individually.

Okay service and decent food. Tacos were unremarkable but enjoyed the salsa. Our waiter apologized a couple of times during the course of our meal and we weren't on our phones being inconsiderate so it wasn't on our side. I would recommend the spicy goat cheese tamales. Pleasant atmosphere but definitely a yuppie place.

This place was a great start to our night out in West Loop. The margaritas were strong. I had the strawberry mint margarita and it was delicious. I am giving this restaurant 3 stars because of the price. The tacos were $4 each and super tiny. My friends and I all order two each which was not enough on top of the order of chips that we got. The tacos also were not amazing or anything special.

Very good Mexican place. The tortillas come with some homemade guacamole and 3 other dipping sauces. Recommended! For main course you have a great choice of Mexican classics. I had the empanadas, they were really good and came with white rice and black beans. Prices are very good. Will go back there.

Stumbled upon this place for lunch today. There was no wait to get a table, which was a positive compared to the other places different than the other places we tried. That being said we were very happy with our lunch, the atmosphere is fun and casual. The guacamole was delicious just not enough of it! The mango habenero salsa was also really great, forewarn ya its spicy! Service was swift, friendly, and helpful! I ordered the skirt steak sandwich and it was very good, my friend liked her tacos as well. She was even able to make it a low cal by having the tortilla replaced by lettuce. The drink menu has many options, unfortunately didnt get to drink any because I was going back to work.
