We went there during lunch time on a Tuesday. It was a bit busy considering it was a weekday. The staff was nice, friendly and attentive. We were given a small noodle soup as an appetizer. It was very good and also on the house. The side dishes were great especially the mashed potato salad which was surprising. We ordered GamjaTang(Pork Bone Soup), Haemul Sundubu-jjigae(Seafood Soft Tofu Stew) and Chicken Katsu. The soups were flavourful and the cutlet has a large portion. They also serve the meal with free hot tea which was refreshing. All in all great dining experience. It is now my new Korean spot in Scarborough.

Went there around 8pm Restaurant was not busy at all, but seems like they were short staffed, no one cleaned up the tables, we were seated for almost 20 mins still no one had come to our table to take order. No water, no utensils…as well. Food quality was not great, I could describe it was terrible…..especially the 간장 게장…it was like a raw crab laying on top of soy sauce… Totally not worth it. We didn’t finish the rest of the food, just paid and left. Will never come back.

This is most likely my favourite Korean spot in the GTA. The service, food, and ambience are all among the best. I’m a big fan of the laid back atmosphere. The jjajang myun and bossam are a must!

I was genuinely excited to try De Chou after seeing it pop up on TikTok. We headed over around 9 pm starving, but the moment we walked in, something felt off. The place seemed empty up front, and the only person I noticed coming out was a server lugging a mop bucket. When we said hi and asked for a table for two, there was no warmth in their greeting and she barely replied and silently led us to a table. We ordered the jajangmyeon, the chadol doenjang-jjigae, and the popcorn chicken “deep-fried karaage.” The noodles were a standout! They were perfectly cooked, flavourful, and easily my favorite thing we ordered. The chadol doenjang-jjigae was decent, solid enough. But the popcorn chicken was a letdown. I was expecting larger, traditional karaage style pieces not tiny, KFC style popcorn bites and definitely not worth a $12.99 price tag for that. We never once saw our server again. No check ins, no “do you want more sides?”, no “how’s everything?” All she did was take the empty plates and felt like I was bothering her if I was to ask for something. It felt like we were there strictly to eat and leave not exactly what I think of as hospitality. Which is a shame, since I had built it up based on hype. All in all, I wouldn’t recommend it based on my visit. Maybe it was just an off night, but the whole thing.. cold greeting, one and done service, pricey tiny chicken left me wishing I’d gone elsewhere for Korean food

I visited here on Friday. Food was really delicious and the server was really kind and gentle. This is best korean cuisine restaurant i’ve ever been!

Google
The pork bone soup had great depth of flavor with a lot of umami. In contrast, the beef broth soup was subtle and tasted clean. They gave some salt on the side in case we wanted to adjust the saltiness. Also, they gave a warm mini bowl of soba at the start in addition to the usual Korean side dishes. Service was quick and food was yummy!

Google
Gamja tang, the pork bone soup is my all-time favourite! It’s truly authentic, with napa cabbage leaves and perilla seed powder. The flavour is rich, and the pork meat is so tender. My only comment is that I always wish there were more potatoes, though I know potatoes aren’t meant to be the main part of the dish. Donkatsu, the fried pork cutlet with rice is also surprisingly good, with a huge portion. It’s thin-cut yet still crispy. The spring rolls however, were a bit disappointing. They tasted like something store-bought and didn’t feel particularly special.

Google
I love the traditional Korean-style décor here. The place is clean and tidy, the food tastes amazing, and the service is great. I’ll definitely be coming back often!

Yelp
(3/5) De Chou Korean Restaurant - Lunch Review We stopped by De Chou Korean Restaurant for lunch today since we happened to be nearby. The sign said it opens at 11:30 a.m., and true to their word, the doors opened exactly on time. The restaurant itself is quite large and impressively clean -- that was my first good impression. We originally went in because of the sign outside advertising Korean ginseng chicken soup, but when we asked the server, he told us it's no longer on the menu. A bit disappointing, especially since my wife wasn't feeling well and I thought that soup would've been perfect for her. We ordered two Bulgogi Dolsot Bibimbaps ($21.99 each). The portion was decent, but the flavor was a bit bland and not salty enough for our taste -- overall I'd give it a 6/10. We also tried the Japchae ($13.99). Unfortunately, it was too greasy, a bit slimy, and overcooked -- about a 4/10 for me. They served five small side dishes, which were just average (5/10), and a small cup of noodle soup that was lukewarm and slightly sweet -- not to my liking, as I prefer savory over sweet in Korean food. The total came to $65.51 before tip, and we left a standard 15%. To be fair, by the time we finished lunch, there were quite a few tables filled, so maybe other dishes are better. But based on what we ordered today, the food didn't live up to the price. Would I go again? Probably not.

Yelp
Came here for lunch with my hubby, we ordered the Monday special and gumjatang. The restaurant is quite spacious with tables and some private rooms. After we placed our order, they serve us caa cup of hot somen (so good), it warms your stomach. Later the meals came with 5 banchan, they all seasoned perfectly, my favorite is the lotus root and Kimchi. Slice pork broth soup lightly salted and comes with 2 dips (mini sauce pot) on aside, personal preference would be gochujiang mix on the right which gives you a punch of spice. It's hard to find good Korean restaurant in Markham/scarborough. This is definitely a hidden gem, will definitely come back with the boys.

Yelp
If you've ever craved that Korea-level cozy home meal without hopping on a plane, De Chou is the spot. I'll admit, when we first pulled up and saw an empty parking lot, we were skeptical. But the moment we walked in, the aroma of warm soup and all the classic Korean essentials hit me like a hug I didn't know I needed. We kicked things off with the seafood pancake -- golden, crispy edges with a soft, melt-in-your-mouth center, packed with generous seafood bites. Honestly, I could've called it a night right there, but then the mains showed up like a feast. My wife's kimchi jjigae had layers of flavor that kept building with every bite, while my beef bibimbap was so rich and satisfying it almost felt unfair. The vibe? Cozy yet elevated. Perfect for a casual date night or a relaxed dinner with friends. Huge shoutout to the staff, who were warm and attentive -- especially the ajumma who kept the side dishes and water flowing. Those sides? Don't sleep on them. The kimchi and fishcakes alone could make a whole meal. Insider Tip: The sides are unlimited, so don't be shy about asking for more (you'll thank me later). Would I come back? Absolutely. Would I bring people here just to flex my foodie radar? 100%. This spot is lowkey now, but the food is top tier -- Scarborough's best-kept secret, and now my wife and I's new favorite go-to. Final Take: De Chou isn't just a restaurant, it's the kind of meal you'll brag about later. If you enjoyed this review, hit that follow -- I'm uncovering the gems so you don't waste a bite.

Yelp
Quite large, specious, nicely decorated, clean restaurant with good food. The restaurant has several dining halls to accommodate multiple large groups (during our dining we saw 2 tourists busses arriving). To start the experience they serve on the house noodles in a small cup, very flavourful and delicious. We had the Bulgogi from Hot Plate menu and added the chef's special with it. Nicely presented and cooked. The portions/ratio of beef and vegetables were balanced. We started with Takoyaki (octopus ball), very nicely prepared, well fried crispy outside with soft melting inside. Overall a nice experience. Ample parking available in front of the restaurant in the private parking lot

Yelp
Service was good. That was it. Food was... not good. Definitely better Korean food out there. Save your time and money and go elsewhere.

Yelp
Dropped by this restaurant for a spontaneous dinner. This place has both open seating and semi-private dining areas, offering options for different occasions and preferences. Like at other Korean restaurants, the complimentary appetizer set was a nice touch, and I liked the marinated potatoes the most. Chicken Katsu: The chicken was a bit on the dry side compared to what I've had at Japanese restaurants. Takoyaki: The preparation and taste were on par with what you'd typically find at Japanese eateries. Bibimbap: It matched the quality I've experienced at other Korean places and had plenty of vegetables, making it a healthy choice. Service was good too. Overall, a pleasant dining experience with room for improvement in some dishes. Food (quality, creativity, consistency) - 4/5 Drinks (quality, variety) - NA/5 Ambience (interior design, cleanliness) - 4/5 Service (courtesy, knowledge, timeliness) - 4/5 Value (quality vs. price) - 4/5 OVERALL - 4/5

Yelp
Visited in the evening looking for some Korean food in the neighbourhood. We walked in and were greeted by some nice staff. Looking at the menu, however, we were surprised to see that it was much more expensive than any other Korean restaurant in the area. We got the Pork Bone Soup hot pot, and the portion size was big enough for leftovers, but after tax and tip, it was over $60. While it tasted good, there were some odd bits and pieces that we didn't expect, like enoki mushrooms and bok choy in our soup. It was a good experience overall, but I personally would opt for some of the other local Korean restaurants in the area instead which offer higher quality of food at more reasonable prices.

Yelp
Been here few times! Located in plaza Victoria park/ McNicoll where there's lot of parking. This is where Sharon used to be so a big spot. Tried a few dishes: Beef bibimpap- nice fulfilling portion! Love the beef being marinated Seafood pancake- thick big portion which is good but isn't as crispy as other places Cold noodles- slushy broth and lot of nice flavor. Similar to cho sun ok! Which is great cause this closer to me Wings was special of night and decent but not sure if it's worth the price Overall def try it out!

Yelp
October 13, 2024 - Always a favourite!! I'll have to go back soon and buy their homemade kimchi!

Yelp
I went here and tried their pork bone soup, bibimbap (beef), and pork belly veg wraps. Everything was good. I think the pork bone soup broth could have been tastier, but it was still pretty solid. The bibimbap was really good and had a good combination of ingredients. The pork belly wraps were also good. The service is quick and overall, I would definitely recommend!

Yelp
Moved to a new location in Scarborough and space is super duper big and spacious. They also have very private booths for their dining, where you can ring a bell to get a server. Washrooms are outside near the entrance. It's like a maze in the restaurant since it's so big and has so many sections/ booths. The food here is so good and delicious. As always with any Korean food, it's great for sharing. They bring a little noodle to each person to start their meal as a little complimentary app. The menu is huge and options are endless, they really have everything! They also have golf combo sets that come with a lot of standard Korean dishes. Here's the ratings of some of the yummy food: Tangsuyuk 5/5 - A great sharing item with deep fried pieces of pork in a sticky sweet and sour sauce. Was so good and first item to arrive to the table. Bossom 5/5 - Love love love! This is a must get. Came with a hot pot stove to keep the pieces of pork belly nice and warm. The plate of cabbage and lettuce on the side also had a beautiful presentation with their pickled radish, placed like roses on the plate. Everything about this dish/ combinations was out of this world. Pork bone soup 5/5 - Get the hot pot version, as it's bang for your buck and good for sharing with the table. Super tasty pork bones and soup and will definitely come back just for this! Cold noodle with icy broth 5/5 - Always a must get, since it's refreshing from all the hot/ spicy foods you'll probably be consuming. Comes with an icy broth that makes it extra cold. Seafood pancake 5/5 - Delicious! Dipping sauce for it was also so good and a great compliment to the pancake. Love their new location as it's so spacious and has lots of free parking. Come with a larger group so you can share food and try more things!

Yelp
We were craving Korean food and this spot was perfect. Tucked away in a quaint plaza in Scarborough is this welcoming restaurant with delicious Korean comfort food. It seems like the restaurant is family run which is great. We ordered the steamed pork belly , Korean fried chicken & jajamyeon. Overall, this was a very satisfying meal.

Yelp
I had read a lot of good reviews about this place particularly with respect to the sliced pork broth soup, so of course I had to try it! It definitely did not disappoint and hit the spot. I was definitely full after. They also give you a nice variety of banchan that I haven't had at other restaurants. Service was good too. Our waitress explained how everything worked.

Yelp
New and updated location of De Chou. It is 25x bigger than the old space. You walk in and it's an escape room. There is enough seating to house a village. You'll have to walk to the back of the restaurant to be greeted by the staff. In my immediate circle de Chou has the best pork bone soup (gamjatang) - I cannot disagree. We ordered a few items for 8 people. Some bossam, seafood pancake, pork bone soup Korean style sweet and sour pork Bossam: meat, sauce, veggies - 10/10 Seafood pancake: thicC pancake made it feel like a deep dish pizza, lots of seafood inside Gamjatang: spicy, meaty, soupy, flavorful. All the elements you want in a PBS. Galbi: small portion but always so good Best value and flavor in Scarb for Korean IMO. (Pls if you can open again in Thornhill my wife and I appreciate it. Also pls get liquor license soon because soju and Somak) Ample parking outside but construction? Plaza is a little wonky Tyvm

Yelp
This place is super close to me and I'm really glad I got to try it out! Their menu is extensive and the restaurant is very spacious - good for any group or size We got the Chicken Bibimbap, Cold Noodles + Dumpling combo, Jajangmyeon (black bean noodle) and tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes). Everything was super flavourful and fresh After we first sat down and ordered, they came out with a variety of side dishes (banchan). We really liked how they served a small noodle soup dish as an appetizer, and all of the other banchan were really tasty! My personal favourite was the broccoli and the potatoes. The cold noodles were on the sweeter side, but they provide you with vinegar + mustard on the side if you'd like to adjust to your liking. 8/10 The jajangmyeon (black bean noodle) was super filling and even came with chunks of pork! Most restaurants will only give small pieces of ground pork, so we were surprised to see the big pieces. 9/10 The tteokbokki was one of my favourites. There was a bunch of ingredients like fish cakes, egg, and veggies, and they all mixed well together with the sauce. They also don't skimp out on rice cakes as there was so much! 9/10 The chicken bibimbap was super homey as well, all the flavours combined were so good and the hot stone is a great touch. 8/10 I'd love to come back to try their soups as Korean soups and stews are my favourite! We also met the owner or one of the workers there, and they mentioned how they are still under renovation and will be opening a BBQ section & cafe! Super excited for this. I'll definitely be back and highly recommend checking them out. I think this will be my new go-to Korean restaurant

Yelp
I really liked their kimchi! They say that every successful Korean restaurant starts with their kimchi and I couldn't agree more. This new location in Scarborough peaked my interest when I started seeing many videos of it on Instagram. The pricing is pretty average I would say. So ordering anything would match prices in this uptown area. I ordered the kimchi stew and my partner ordered the bibambap. The kimchi stew was delicious. Did I already mention their kimchi is top notch?! The kimchi was fresh and crunchy like it should be. It has the right amount of gochujang making it spicy. The fermenting created a nice sour taste. The whole kimchi experience was excellent. Overall, I really liked the size of the new restaurant. It is big enough to accommodate a large or small group. I enjoyed this restaurant and will look to return in the near future!

Mizuka W.

Yelp
I have been to this place twice. The food totally worth for a review. I ordered their cold noodle both time. It's very refreshing. Not too sour not to sweet, you can add extra vinegar sauce to adjust acidity and the horseradish. The pork topping has a hint of shiso which balances the greasiness of the port fat. Great. The other dish we ordered twice was the black bean sauce rice/noodle. The sauce flavor is closer to the Bolognese meet sauce instead of black bean because butter and minced beef probably. The rice (comes with egg) therefore tastes closer to a Japanese omu rice. The noodle was good too. Very impressed with the flavor of the food.

Oskaar W.

Yelp
Ordered octopus + beef hot pot, soup was ok but the octopus was not malleable. Price was too high for ingredients.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a lovely mom and pop style place. It's not that big so it fills up quickly. The service was amazing, kind and attentive. They have lots of very traditional items but we stuck to regular fare, beef and tofu stew, beef bulgogi bi bim bap and chicken katsu. All were really tasty. Next time we will try one of the cold noodles!
google avatar

Yelp
All you need to know is that this restaurant is HUGE but really fills up for dinner. It's really popular, and there's definitely a reason why! The food was good and the service was good. We ordered the pork bone soup hot pot, the seafood pancake and a bibimbap. This was definitely way too much food for 4 people, but we wanted to try it all! The food and sides came out quickly despite the restaurant being so busy. There were 6 refillable side dishes, in particular the kimchi stood out to me as it tasted fresh and not overly fermented. For our mains, the bibimbap was really good: hot, flavourful and great texture. The seafood pancake was thick and crispy. A little pricey, but I guess it's okay since there was so much stuff inside it. The pork bone soup had a good amount of bones, potatoes, rice cakes and veggies inside. Good value for the hot pot compared to the individual portion! The meat was tender and fall off the bone. However, we found the soup way too spicy for us. I've had extra spicy soups at other Korean restaurants and this was even spicier than that. Couldn't taste any other flavour in the which is disappointing. We ended up taking this home and recooking it. Overall, I would say it is a little pricey, but if you are looking for good Korean food or looking for a place that can sit a lot of people comfortably, I would definitely give this place a try!

Yelp
I went to try out this new restaurant with my friends. The place is fairly new, as it was a soft opening. They have specials for ordering combos. We got the (고등어 구이 정식) Godeunguh Gui Jeong sik, (순대국) Korean-style sausage soup, and (보쌈) Bo Ssam. I genuinely liked the kimchi that they had. Sadly, they didn't have an alcohol license yet. The service was good; they had a button for you to press to call for assistance. The restaurant wasn't noisy at all, the music in the background wasn't loud either, and I could have sociable conversations with friends. I would come back to try their lunch special, as I would like to try their bibimbap.

Yelp
wowowow! tried out this late night korean spot on the weekend and it blew my expectations out of the water!! we ordered the bossam and jokbal combo which comes w all the ssam (lettuce wrap) fixins on the side. the bossam comes on a heated plate so the meat stays melty, tender, and juicy throughout the entire meal ;) the flavours were also perfectly balanced and made for refreshing but also full bodied bites. this combo is discounted friday and saturday! we also got a sundaeguk and grilled yellow croaker fish, which were both clean tasting, no gaminess or fishiness whatsoever. I truly felt like i was transported back to korea for a feast this day and I am truly so grateful they decided to open in Scarborough a couple months ago. the service is so attentive and they even have bells on the side at all the tables so you can ring it whenever you need help with anything! they even told us they're planning to have a KBBQ and korean dessert cafe expansion when they're done construction!!

Yelp
We can't get enough of this place! A clear winner among the Korean restaurants we've tried in GTA. Their Gam Ja Tang (pork bone soup) is arguably the best I've had; the broth is just so rich with meaty / bone goodness! Owl's in comparison may be a bit more layered but hygiene concerns prevent me from visiting them for now. The beef bone and seafood broth, dduk bok gi (spicy rice cake) are well-balanced and just full of flavour; they don't take any shortcuts and skimp on ingredients. The restaurant is new to the current location and the place is beautifully decorated with glimpses of Korean culture, and the service has been consistently good! If you are a fan of Korean food, this is a must-try when in GTA.

Yelp
Gamjatang has always been my favorite, but I have missed all the Korean restaurants that I used to go. After missing the Toronto scene for 7 years, lot of them shut down. But as weather got colder, I searched and found this place. And the gamjatang here is good. Lot of meats from the bones. The soup is flavorful and the right amount of spice and hotness. The lunch special is a pretty good deal. This is a small shop, which comparably less busy, which I love too.
google avatar

Alana N.

Yelp
I had heard of this place through a TikTok that said that they had the best gukbap in Toronto. It was my first time having gukbap, so I cannot confirm if it is the best, but I did think it was very delicious and comforting on a cold evening. This is a small, cozy restaurant with a local family restaurant vibe. The waitresses were kind and very attentive, and the food came relatively quickly. The day that we ate here, they also had some anniversary promotions so we got a pork katsu at a discounted price, and it was pretty good. What I loved the most were the sides at this restaurant. I felt like they were really all homemade and made with love. I fell in love with their potatoes, haha. They also gave generous portions of refills for the sides. I would love to go back and try other dishes and also have the gukbap again!

Yelp
Came to the area on a weekday with intention of having soondaeguk at another restaurant. But since that other restaurant was closed, came across De Chou. I had a great meal here. This is a small, Mom and Pop type restaurant. It was quite full when I arrived and people were constantly coming in to eat. The service was really great and I figured out I needed to add my own paste to adjust the spice level in my soup (which is nice). The soondaeguk was really good and I also enjoyed the banchan!
google avatar

Yelp
When TikTok's actually put you on true hidden gems! I saw a video of this small family-run restaurant tucked in a complex in Thornhill and after seeing such positive Google reviews we decided to give it a try. We had: Seafood soondubu jjigae: the broth was rich and had generous chunks of seafood including mussels and squid Spicy stir fried pork: such great flavor, however the meat was a bit tough and could have be more tender Bossam (Steamed pork): some restaurants serve this cold but this was served on a hot plate. The skin was so buttery and the meat was tender. I don't usually like this dish because it's sometimes lacking flavor but this was Overall the service was good and the food was delicious. It's rare to see a restaurant not cut corners and pay special attention to preparing authentic food. The banchan were all top notch (especially the radish). If you're craving traditional Korean dishes, you won't be disappointed

Yelp
De Chou is a local Korean restaurant that's located under some condos that is worth visiting. We came on a Sunday night and it was pretty full despite the time. We were lucky to get seated away as there were only two of us at the time. Their menu offers a variety of appetizers, hot plates, a la carte, soups, cold noodles and even hot pot. They also offer special Soju combos which are definitely worth trying if you're coming with some friends. We opted for two Gamjatangs and when they arrived, we were quite surprised by the amount of meat on the pork bone pieces. I've tried many Korean spots where I could only grab some meat here and there, but I was able to grab big chunks of meat. The soup was white flavourful, although it would be perfect if it had a little bit of kick to it. The servers were quite polite and friendly which elevated our experience, especially since it was a cold night. This is definitely a mom and pop spot you should support :) IG: Ayenomz

Yelp
Came here for Saturday dinner. Arrived at 6:45p. Place was only 50% filled. Service was great. Food was a bit too greasy. Love the variety of side dishes. I read from Yelp that they moved to this new location mid Jan. Worth trying.

Yelp
Lovely service. Waitresses were warm and welcoming. Food was excellent. They were so kind as to provide steamed eggs on the house for their customers when I visited. Tip generously if you can - the wait staff deserves it
