Excellent food and service. Lots of clear and thoughtful gluten free options. Great pizza, pasta and Italian desserts

I went here with my boyfriend. We didnt book a table but we got lucky by getting a table next to the window. We both got a pizza and honestly the best gluten free pizza ive eaten. Couldn’t recommend this place enough. The atmosphere was so cozy with the dim lighting and candles.

Google
Quite a disappointing experience. I decided to give this place another try since it’s often busy, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to expectations. We ordered the pasta, which was incredibly bland—almost as if the chef hadn’t tasted it. I had to request cheese and salt just to make it edible, only to find out later that I was charged €2.50 for them, without any prior notice. On top of that, they charged €1.50 for tap water. There wasn’t even a spoon provided for the pasta, which made eating it awkward. When I mentioned the issues to the staff, nothing was done—they simply shrugged it off. Overall, the food was flavorless, the service indifferent, and the charges unreasonable. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Google
It was lovely. Really nice authentic food. Cheese and meat platter with sausage and cheese. I had gluten free pizza which was pretty good. The normal pizza was judged better at the table of course but fur gluten free I was very happy. Toppings are good quality and fresh. Service very friendly. Dessert and digestive were lovely

Google
We came to eat today, the staff was really kind and the place was immaculately clean. The food was delicious, my partner and I we always eat gluten free, and they have a lot of options, and really tasty! We are really happy with the service and the food, we will repeat soon sure!

Google
The most romantic, glorious meal I've had on holidays in ages. Staff were wonderful and we made sure to tip we were so so grateful. Gluten free pizza was delicious, Chef's pasta with pumpkin was delicious (my personal number 1), wine was delicious, but the location, glowing lights, the ambiance and the street it is located on is to die for. However, it must be said that the tiramisu was glorious!

Google
We had a fantastic dining experience at De Italian Restaurant. Their gluten-free pizza is truly exceptional – crispy, flavorful, and made with top-notch ingredients. The service was excellent, with attentive and friendly staff who made us feel right at home. The warm neighborhood atmosphere adds to the charm, making it a perfect spot for a cozy meal. Highly recommend!

Google
Great spot for a pizza! The decor is super cozy and comfortable. The upstairs tables are the best as you can see downstairs and into the street. The food is great and quite quick. Loads of gluten free options, even beer! I would highly recommend this spot

Yelp
Brilliant Italian! It was a little cold outside but the seats had warmers and they gave you each a blanket to use so it was just fine. Our dishes were phenomenal, I'm very picky with Italian since it's my heritage but these guys did it right! Brilliant execution and I was very pleased! Lastly we ordered tiramisu to finish and it was very good. It could have been a little sweeter but honestly not much to complain about. I'd easily recommend and eat here again!!

Yelp
Lovely rainy evening dinner. Staff worked hard to accommodate those rained out of dining Al fresco.

Yelp
Nice food, very good location. Service was fast. Toilets are upstairs and so unique:)

Yelp
We randomly pick this restaurant for lunch one day and I had the best ever pizza that I can remember. Yup, that's not an exaggeration, de Italian (pizza with the same name as the store), is an incredible vegetarian pizza with truffle, Gorgonzola, arugula, and button mushroom. I am not even close to being a vegetarian but if they feed me this everyday, I may as well be one.

Yelp
We are here twice while visiting Amsterdam. Very good pizza. Highly recommend if you're in this part of town.

Yelp
Good pizza, nice Cesar salad friendly wait staff and a fairly quiet street to enjoy an evening dining outside

Yelp
Hands down the best GF pizza - must eat. The crust was light and crispy and the sauce was so flavorful. 10/10

Yelp
The best meal we had in Amsterdam. Very tender ossobucco, pasta done al dente, and a very interesting dessert - Sgroppino. (Lemon sorbet, vodka, and spumante in a narrow sundae glass. Good and friendly service. Great neighborhood and nice ambience. The pizzas looked good. If we're ever back this is a place we'll definitely revisit.

Yelp
Actually we ended up at this place by accident. However, it turned out to be a very successful meal. We chose the pizza menu. First dish was a ham and cheese platter with some veggies. Next dish we could choose between two different pizzas or one pizza and one pasta, chef's choise (with the possibility of removing toppings you didn't like). We had the pasta. An excellent choise. Then the pizza, which was equally good. Finally we had dessert, also included in the menu and picked by the chef.

Yelp
I went especially there for a gluten free pizza and was surprised and disappointed when it arrived and was half the size of my friends pizza, since I paid 2 euros extra for it. Also both pizzas were pretty much tasteless and the gluten free pizza was soggy. The waiter was nice when I asked him if the size was normal and apologised, but when we were paying the bill the waitress was quite rude. Pretty much she spoke to me like I was stupid when I didn't think that "because gluten free ingredients are more expensive" was an way to explain me both paying more and getting a pizza half the size... I worked in hospitality many years and from my experience this is not the way that customers should be spoken to. If it hadn't of been in the best company the experience would have ruined my night.

Yelp
Gluten Free: Yes - They offer a gluten free pizza crust Casein Free: No De Italiaan offers a relaxing and laid back dinning experience. Located off the touristy path tucked into a neighborhood, sits De Italiaan. On nicer days, outside patio seating is the way to go. The inside offers seating; however, you would find yourself a bit more cramped . The menu is pretty straight forward in Italian offerings. The prices are a bit higher than what some might expect; however, it is important to keep in mind that you are also paying for the freshness of ingredients. In terms of gluten free offerings, you are limited to the pizza. There is a 2+ up charge for the crust. The GF crust itself is filling, and a bit hard to stomach in large servings. It is somewhat grainy and has a bit of an aftertaste. Service started off great, when the restaurant wasn't busy, but as it got more crowded, it started to lag. Tip: Make a reservation to avoid the wait, especailly later in the evening.

Yelp
We walked into De Italiaan at the recommendation of a local. We didn't have a reservation and knew it was risky, but they were able to accommodate us after some rearranging. We sat upstairs and enjoyed wine and one of the best pizzas I've every had. We ordered a basil, mozzarella, and prosciutto. The atmosphere was very enjoyable - romantic and casual at the same time. Our service was excellent. The food was delicious. I highly recommend De Italiaan and I also recommend you make a reservation!

Sue S.

Yelp
Love this place!~ They have gluten free pasta. My favorite dish is their Spaghetti Regina! The best! Wish they had it all the time...they change their menu seasonally. The atmosphere is cozy and fun, inside and outside. The waiters and staff are so friendly. We go constantly!

Yelp
Mmmm, seriously good pizza. I had the Pizza Patata (potato, pancetta and rosemary) and it was to die for. The service was ok. Couldn't tell if my waiter was super nice or kinda snarky. But either way the food was good, the upstairs is really cute and we got our food quickly. I will probably make reservations next time since they seemed to be booked for the rest of the night (we went for an early dinner).

Yelp
Oh my Food was delicious but we had to wait 80 minutes for 1 pizza and 1 bowl of pasta :( I think they had a bad night there? Not sure what happened but I am not going to risk trying again
google avatar

Yelp
No food for you! Terrible service - lovely corner. I can't review the food because an hour and 20 minutes after we ordered, we still didn't have any. (Two wood fired pizzas by the way.) Many excuses came after 40 minutes but food kept coming for other tables. Still baffled at how that happens but eventually we just couldn't stand to hear another excuse. Try Ciro Passami L'olio instead :)

Yelp
Last minute with a larger group we decided that we wanted to eat something Italian. Just a couple of meters away from our hotel, was this cozy local restaurant. The menu was great. With a lot of choices when it comes to pizza. I ordered a vegetarian pizza with Parmesan cheese. It was pretty good. They also do offer great choices when it comes to wine. (Especially red wine). Unfortunately does this restaurant close early. We would have wanted to stay a bit longer, but we noticed while we were eating that it was closing.

Yelp
Cozy neighborhood Italian restaurant. I immediately liked the ambiance. I wished their menu was posted online somewhere as it changes often. If I had known the only vegetarian dish they offered on the night we visited I probably would have skipped coming here. However we took a chance and I ordered the gnocchi (the only non meat dish of the night) which I found to lack flavor, was incredibly heavy, dense and very starchy. It was also mixed with even more potatoes (like a mash) so you had to go searching for your gnocchi within the mash (odd!). The dish had no texture so I forced myself to eat about 1/3 of the plate before I put my fork and knife down. I was not impressed and I have to say do not recommend it. They did have a large variety of pizza (their specialty?) as they had an entire side of the menu dedicated to pizzas however I was not craving pizza this night. They do have an impressive looking wood burning oven in the back. My husband did enjoy his steak which he ordered with a side of rosemary potatoes. I don't doubt this is a good Italian restaurant. This was my experience and it just wasn't for me that night. I would give them another go however I'd check their menu offerings before deciding to enter for a meal.

Yelp
How intriguing!! A rib eye steak pizza was on the menu taunting me to try it out. Well being a rib eye steak fan I had to try this out. Actually, all three of us at the table had to try this out. It was tasty but not as savory, satisfying and enjoyable as a rib eye steak meal. The menu was more oriented towards different kinds of pizzas. There were several on the menu I'd like to go back and try. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't much in the way of pasta dishes on the menu of an italian restaurant even. The service was good. The atmosphere relaxed. I was not wowed though I was intrigued.

Yelp
My friend and I decided to come here during our last night in Amsterdam, as it was close to where we were staying and saw it had fairly good reviews. It was a nice evening so we sat outside to take in the last of the sun before heading back to grey, rainy Ireland. Shortly after sitting down, we were promptly greeted by an Italian waitress. We gave her our order and off she went. She returned a a couple minutes later with our wine, some oil, and bread. Normally I don't go for bread an oil before a meal, but I happened to be starving this particular evening, so I was glad she did! Both of us ordered the pasta with scallops and prawns, and can I say this dish was FANTASTIC... but as a warning, the serving was very large! I did eat the whole thing, but was stuffed when I left. I really could have done with leaving about 1/4-1/3 of it on the plate. The flavours of the pasta were really nice and basic... not too much oil, and just the perfect amount of spice, scallops, and prawns. They offer specials every day for pasta, fish, main dish and dessert. So if you want to try something new, they seem to have a good selection of specials. They also had quite an extensive pizza menu if you're looking for pizza. They also had a nice selection of various Italian wines. If I found myself back in Amsterdam again, would definitely come back here.

Yelp
This is a nice, cozy, multi-level restaurant. I'd highly recommend a reservation since even on a Wednesday at 8 pm they were full. Their website is very easy to navigate and they have and online reservation system there. The food is quite good, though not out of this world. The pizza is above-average and is of the Naples sort (thin-crust, though soft). The ingredients are fresh! They have good basic dishes and a lot of imagination in the pizza front. Their other dishes are somewhat limited, so if you don't want pizza, you will have to make do. They also have a nice selection of bruschetta which is a nice change from most restaurants. Also, they make "arancini" which is a nice Southern Italian specialty. Lastly, their wine list is all Italian... not huge, but actually a decent selection covering main wine regions in Italy (both by the glass and the bottle) including some for dessert. I'd definitely recommend this place for a dinner date as the loft setting allows for room and some privacy. Don't expect the service to be quick, unless you tell them from the get go that you're on a schedule. What we had: Arancini: 7/10 Bruschetta Prosciutto and black truffle: 8.5/10 Pizza Margherita: 7.5/10 (if I'd ask tem to cook it more, might have been an 8) Veal agnelotti with sage: 8/10 Tagliata di Manzo: 8.5/10 (ample parmesan plus the seasoning was perfect) Lemon Pie: 8/10 (seemed like a key lime pie on a tart blackberry coulis

Yelp
Hi, this restaurant is a nice place. Very good food but at a high price. 16€ for a Pizza Diavola is ridiculous! But do your own decision.

Yelp
Why did I not try this restaurant for the last so many months?! This place is great! Went to De Italiaan for a casual dinner with two others. The idea was to reserve a table in advance and spend an evening over conversation and food. The reservation part was dead simple; just log onto their website and fill in your details, although I didn't get the reminder SMS. I had heard about their pizzas before and so was keen to try them out. We were given a nice round table in a somewhat closed off area on the first floor. This meant that we could actually have our nice conversation. The service was fast and efficient, almost reminding me of service in American restaurants where you are treated like a king. The three of us tried different pizzas. A vegetarian, something with onions, and I had the potato pizza. Having tried potato pies in the upper NY areas, I wasn't expecting the one here to best that, but it wasn't bad at all. The crust was superb and the pizza was delicious even as it got cold during the course of our conversation. The dessert menu is also a pleasure to look at. We tried the tiramisu, walnut ice cream, and the dessert of the day, cheesecake with chocolate cream. All so very delicious. The restaurant claims that it imports all its ingredients from Italy. I wouldn't doubt it. The entire evening's experience was very good, with lots of attention and low enough ambient noise to actually carry on a nice conversation. The interior is tastefully done with lots of interesting pictures on the walls. All in all, you should definitely give this restaurant a shot if you're looking for some of the finest pizzas on this side of the planet. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Hit or miss dining. We had quite a long wait for a table but were offered drinks as we waited and sat outside on a lovely blanket lined bench below one of the trees. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon but I was glad to see that they also have outdoor heaters for colder nights. It was very busy by the time we were finally seated at a table so it's understandable, but the staff was a bit less attentive than expected. There were two open tables but no staff available to clear them. Where are the busboys? For an appetizer we ordered a charcuterie plate with a few cheeses and veggies. Everything was delicious! Happy start. For an entree I ordered the linguini and clams and was disappointed. It was very bland, with very little sauce and overcooked clams and shrimp. I would not recommend ordering this dish. My boyfriend ordered pasta in a lamb ragu (I'm not certain on the name) which on the other hand, was very good. Looks like I made the wrong choice. For dessert, we ordered vanilla gelato, an espresso and Sambuca. All were perfect and we were delighted to see the Sambuca arrive with the traditional three coffee beans! By the end of the night I still wish we had chosen another restaurant. Between my mediocre entree and the waitstaff bumping against my chair every time they walked by I was ready to go. I would give this place another shot but with so many other restaurants in the area, it wouldn't be the first on my list.

Yelp
Very nice location in the center of Amsterdam and very nice service, the waiter was very polite. Antipasto misto and arancini were good, but the pizza for which they are so famous was a disappointment very heavy and with garlic, While a real Italian pizza never has garlic on it. The wine was good. From all the positive review I read I was expecting a better pizza, but maybe I just had too high expectations.

Elaine M.

Yelp
-Pizza was wet... -Staff was snobby.. (Really!! And I should know, being a proper Snob) -The scallop tartar tasted like mayonnaise... I quote our waitress "The Scallops are really fresh, that's why they don't taste so strong." (What?!) -4 people placed at a 2 peep table, it really was too small, "When an other table becomes free, it's yours"....a table became free: "Hold on, you dont have your food yet, i have to check if we have other guests waiting." (What?!) - Amsterdam tap water tastes great... i wanted 1 carafe and 4 glasses, the waitress came back with an already opened bottle of still water... i love my company, i didnt want to loose my shit...so i said nothing (stupid, stupid, stuuuupid!) Not my favorite, no more. ...i'm a bit sad, it was my favorite (even had my favorite waitress Eva) and it's so close to my house... I'll try it again, in a few months... :(

Yelp
Very nice italian restaurant. The antipasti we had was so so ... caprese salad was nothing very exciting (not the best tomato), salads were ok The pizza is the reason to go there! Thin crusts and lots of different types (truffles, vegetarian, spicy sausages, ,...). The service is very good and attentive (staff asking AND caring if everything is going well). The atmosphere is very nice. The wine we had was good (Valpolicella) All in all, a perfect simple italian, one of the places to go for a simple pizza dinner!
google avatar

Johanna V.

Yelp
Gluten free pizza and pasta that are both awesome. Hard to find good gluten free options in Amsterdam. Love the atmosphere and that it's dog friendly. Make a reservation ahead of time because it's kinda small.
google avatar

Lara K.

Yelp
A bit pricey for thin crust pizza but it was delicious. Very busy, reservations recommended even for during the week. We didn't have one but we were willing to sit at the bar-style seating area by the front window. They have an attractive upper lofted seating level that I'd make a reservation for next time. Warm and inviting, I tried the the spinach pizza with lots of cheese and pine nuts - delicious! They have a selection of wines and just a couple of beers, so it's more for wine drinkers here.
google avatar

Sudashni P.

Yelp
I love everything about this place, from its beautiful cozy red decor to its wonderful owner managed staff to the delightful food I have always experienced overlooking the beautiful streets of Amsterdam. Everything is delicious, pizza amazing. Wide selection, fantastic service. Must try!
google avatar

Charlie N.

Yelp
Very nice restaurant with the best gluten free pizza I have ever had! It tasted like a real Italien pizza. The non gluten free pizza of my boyfriend was also the best he ever had :) Super friendly staff, super nice wine and really warm atmosphere a bit outside of Amsterdams hot spot area. Definitely recommend this to all who seek a good authentic Italien restaurant.
google avatar

Theresa R.

Yelp
Only ok. I had the special fish dish and the piñon sauce was too thick. Also the vegetables served were drenched in olive oil that was too strong got my taste. Me friend has the linguine wth clans and loved it though. I think this is really a place for pizza We didn't have that so we can't judge that. Friendly service though.
google avatar

Stefanie D.

Yelp
Excellent food and service! Went with two kids (2and5) and felt very welcomed! Pizza and pasta dishes good!
google avatar

Manny D.

Yelp
This place is excellent . The food is absolutely delicious and the staff exemplary. We went on Sunday night and, although busy, they found us a table for 5. Service was prompt, food delicious. And , to top it off, they do a great Gluten Free pizza range . Highly recommended
google avatar

Bryan G.

Yelp
This place is usually fantastic and offers the only gluten-free pizza crust we've been able to find in Amsterdam. The last time we went, they had apparently changed their gluten-free crust recipe (it was quite grainy and almost cornbread-like this time), but every other time we'd been there, the pies were delicious, the service was good, and the wine selection quite good. Definitely get reservations, though, as the place is almost always full.

Nick A.

Yelp
This is the worst service I have ever received. They were rude as soon as we walked through the door. We had a group of 10 people and we were willing to split into two or three tables - whatever was necessary - and they were unwilling to accommodate us. This was hard to believe given there were two people eating in an otherwise empty restaurant with a dozen empty tables at 5:30pm. It is unclear to me why they would refuse us - we were all well dressed, polite, and not intoxicated or disruptive. No explanation for not seating us was given. I would never recommend this place to any potential patron.
google avatar

Amanita B.

Yelp
I've never had a bad meal here. You just can't go wrong. Make sure to reserve in advance, as you won't find a free spot here on the weekend, but man is it ever worth every penny.
google avatar

Yelp
Very good fresh Authentic Italian Resturant in Amsterdam serving great food at reasonable prices.
google avatar

Melissa B.

Yelp
This place is in the neighborhood that I'm staying, and we had dinner here tonight. I had the tomato, motzerella, spicy pepperoni and olives pizza, my friend had the seafood pasta, and my boyfriend had the rib eye steak with a side of potatoes. Everything was good, and we also got tiramisu for dessert. The seating outside was nice and our waitress was really nice as well.
google avatar

Kelsey V.

Yelp
I realize I'm in the minority with this review but I really think De Italiaan is much better than La Perla. I love the location - in a residential neighborhood, off the main street, lovely colored lights outside. Inside it's really cozy, with excellent and attentive service. They have loads of unique pizza choices and good non-pizza options too. I really enjoyed it and will be back.

Maggie M.

Yelp
This place has delicious pizza and a nice ambiance. The gluten free crust was cooked to perfection, and flavors of the pizzas on point. Highly recommend!

Luke S.

Yelp
YUM! We were visiting from the US. The restaurant was close to our hotel, so we gave it a try. There are menus available in English. We ordered the "special" pizza (15 euro) and bruschetta (6 euro). Both were delicious and an adequate portion for two people. We enjoyed the romantic atmosphere of the restaurant. The restaurant was crowded, but that didn't take away from a feeling of coziness and intimacy. The food was well-priced and we would definitely come back!
google avatar

Jeff F.

Yelp
Excellent service from a staff that goes above and beyond making food that is not on the menu for those with specific needs. We walked in on a Saturday night where fortunately they had a table available. A very nice local vibe if you want to have some quality Italian away from the main touristy area.
google avatar

Urnstavros B.

Yelp
Really liked this place. Great selection of fresh pizzas, wines, great decor and staff. There was nothing to complain about. Definitely make a reservation if you want to sit inside on the weekends.

Andy N.

Yelp
I came across De Italiaan by accident after asking directions for somewhere great to eat. All the way from Australia and here was the best pizza we have had..ever. Tried Italian pizza, UK pizza, and yes Australian pizza and none was as good as De Italiaan pizza. The waitress was friendly and not hard to look at either, but the pizza was great.
