Ghent Is Challenging Antwerp as Belgium’s Capital of Cool | Vogue

"Global influences come through clearly in the cooking at this restaurant, which is emblematic of how Ghent’s food scene has expanded beyond its classic roots to embrace more diverse, internationally inspired flavors." - Lindsay Cohn

The confit de canard was amazing, and the steak tartare was just as good

An excellent, charming little restaurant! The four of us visited and ended up trying most of the menu by sharing dishes. Every single item was absolutely perfect! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff were attentive, skilled, and genuinely friendly. I would happily come back again.

Had a lovely two course lunch. Melon with ham, and salmon with potato cakes and veggies. This restaurant never disappoints. Quality ingredients that make a difference, and the salmon was cooked perfectly. Service was good and so friendly. It's now my regular go-to restaurant as I live in the neighbourhood Warning.. The deserts are dangerously decadent!!

Unfortunately a shim of what once was. Had the bavette, which was way overcooked ( asked saignant) , and it was sobbing in liquid. Unacceptable in this price range.. Good wine list, but the vintages were not the ones of the menu. :(

Good food, small portions, big price. It was the first time at this restaurant and I had a mixed opinion about the place, the food and their menu. They offer a small food selection with simple plates, some of them typical from the area. Their wine selection is very big, so I am sure you will find something you like. I already knew it was going to be expensive, but when I saw the food on my plate and I saw how much money I was going to pay, I had some regrets about my choice. Food was tasty but quite simple and certainly more expensive than in other quality restaurants. In some cases, prices have around 10€ inflation compared to similar restaurants in the area (I am not talking about touristic ones). Portions are small, so you are expected to take a first and a second or even a dessert. Otherwise, you will feel hungry. Be prepared to spend around 60€ without drinks or dessert if you choose for a first and a second course. As an example, we took a tomato salad (22€), mussels (19€) combined with "ribstuk" (39€) and pasta vongole (32€). Even if the food was very tasty, I found portions very small for the price you pay, so I guess this is the reason I can't rate with more stars. Even if they were friendly and the food was nice, I didn't find the price being fair. Do I recommend this place? Yes I do, but make the good choice. I would suggest selecting the pasta vongole but don't spend your money on an overpriced tomato salad, for example. If you are used to eat a lot or having big portions, this is definitely not your place. If you appreciate good food, you don't really care that much about quantity, and money is not a problem, please come to this place because food is very tasty. TIP: if you choose for meat, please, let the waiter know how much you want your portion to be cooked, otherwise they won't ask and you will receive meat in the way they like it to be prepared. Take a look at the pictures so you have an idea about their selection at the time of writing this review. By the way, don't expect a fancy restaurant. It has a classical setting but it is quite hipster. Dress code allows wearing everything (at our visit some people were wearing elegant clothes and other people were wearing training suits).

Disappointing service for the price — not worth €82 per person. We were a group of five friends trying to enjoy the end of the weekend. Although we didn’t have a reservation, we appreciated being given a table with the condition that it would be available until 20:00. We arrived at 18:40, which seemed reasonable for a relaxed dinner. The service was polite, the food was fine, nothing remarkable, but nothing to complain about either. However, the experience quickly took a turn. At 19:52, while we were still waiting for extra fries we had ordered, we were told we had 10 minutes left at the table. We understood the time limit, but the tone was abrupt and unwelcoming, especially considering that several tables were still free and there was no one waiting to be seated. At 20:06, while still finishing our food, we were presented with the bill without being asked if we wanted coffee or dessert, or even being offered the option to move inside, which was completely empty at the time. If the restaurant couldn’t provide a proper experience within the timeframe, that should have been made clear from the beginning. At €82 per person, this level of service was simply not acceptable. We left with the feeling of being rushed out rather than welcomed, not exactly how you want to end a weekend with friends.

Elegant and quite atmosphere. Great selection of wines if you a wide budget! Definitely recommend this restaurant with a mix of Italian Belgian cousine!

This restaurant came highly recommended by a shop owner and we ate here 2 nights in a row. The first night we did not have a reservation but I stopped in to ask about openings. The bartender was very kind and said we could come back for dinner and eat at the bar. The team was overwhelmed by a party of ver 20 people whose reservation was lost in the system. They did a great job managing the chaos and we only had to wait slightly longer than normal for drinks, food, etc. The second night we had a reservation and ate outside on the lovely patio. Good, fresh food and lovely wine. For the reviewers saying the price is high, we found Belgium in general to be a very expensive country when it came to meals. A highlight of this restaurant is that it is just off the beaten path. While there are certainly tourists dining there, it is mostly locals, which makes for a lovely experience.

Yelp
This was a strong recommendation from our Air BnB host, he made us a reservation when he found out we were going. As others have said this is a local spot and had lots of local Belgian meals on the menu. Service was good, beers were tasty and we loved the atmosphere. see photos.

Yelp
Slightly off the beaten track, this restaurant doesn't have English menus so we just to the waiter to bring us his two favourite dishes. The menu changes on a daily basis. He brought out a poussin that was fall off the bone serve covered in a light sauce with a small salad. Simple but good. He also brought out a pork and meatball stew served in a hearty sauce, also with a small salad. Both came with frites and potato croquettes. Although it probably was a bit too hearty give the 30 degree weather, we enjoyed it nonetheless. Lovely beer on tap too.

Yelp
One of my favourite places in my hometown. They take care of their customers, their products and the menu changes almost every week. Go and you won't regret it.

Yelp
Great food, off the beaten path, we were the only Americans in there. The waiter was easy on the eyes and extremely helpful in describing that night's offerings. Inside was cozy with subtle lighting. Will return if I'm ever back in Ghent!

Yelp
Another yelp success! Found this place searching for something reasonably priced and not totally touristy. We realized quickly Ghent was pricey and this fit into what we willing to spend (about $80 euros for dinner and wine for 2). They write the menu nightly and it is only in Flemish. When we walked up we asked if they would be able to explain the menu and they said no problem so we sat outside. The server ran through the whole menu and answered our questions very politely. We shared a starter of mussels which were delicious. They were a smaller French variety and my mom who doesn't love mussels really liked them. My mom had steak frites with a veggie side. She said her meat was very tender and liked the veggies. I sampled her fries which were great! I had a local white fish that came with a ratatouille like veggie dish of eggplant, peppers and olives. It also came with some seasoned new potatoes. The fish and veggies were wonderful! Very well seasoned, flavorful and well cooked. Potatoes were good but mom's fries were the better starch. We had a bottle of the preferred house wine which was a nice French blend. Service was great (attentive and friendly), a refreshing change from the standard for the region. This meal honestly made spending the full night in Ghent worth it.
