Great location. Jason was very helpful. Unfortunately, the accommodation is not what we expected. Photo gallery not a true reflection of the accommodation. 4 adults in one room not acceptable 😒

The photo gallery room bears no resemblance to the actual room. Old linen, mattress that is beyond help, cockcroach and insects in room. Broken taps in basin, cracked basin. Overall beyond disappointing. There is no correlation between price and value.

If you are ever in the mood for discovering Stellenbosch City Centre, the location of the Old Mill House is perfect!||It's got an old fashioned vibe, 4 rooms above their cafe. My room overlooked the street and it was great to sit at the verandah early morning and watch the city come to life. ||The rooms are not modern, and not very plush; but they are comfortable. ||The owner and manager are super helpful with detailed instructions, parking instructions and also helped me haul my bags up the stairs!

Arno, Jason and the team went above and beyond to make my visit memorable. The setting is perfect for experiencing Stellenbosch and all that it has to offer.

Nice location, right amongst the restaurants etc. In general the guesthouse is quite quaint, but my room was more on the 'just old' side of quaint. Had to switch the aircon off at the wall (remote switched it on but not off) shower leaked continuously, mattress is completely collapsed. And in this day and age to only have coffee creamer and not those little milk containers is not cool. Furniture and carpet are just old and the place could do with a bit of an upgrade. Jason was great though, but there are better places for your cash IMHO.

It is an old building which retains its original character. The rooms are dated, but what we expected, and come with tea/coffee making facilities, heating, WiFi that works even during load-shedding (sometimes slightly slow but perfectly adequate), comfortable beds (but with poor quality linen), plenty of storage space, and a good bathroom with toilet, sink and shower, and plenty of hot water.|Breakfast is served in the downstairs coffee shop. It was a bit limited in choice and quantity, but of good quality and served quickly even when there was a good number of locals using the coffee shop. Good coffee and a vast array of drinks and meals are available, especially vegetarian.|Arno (the owner) and his staff were always most helpful and went out of their way to respond promptly to questions or special requests.|It was a good location for our three night stay in the centre of Stellenbosch and in easy walking distance to many restaurants and local attractions - good when one wants to enjoy the excellent wines of the region and not have to drink and drive. It is very competitively priced and good value.

We spent a night there and the next morning our car had been broken into. The car was parked in a closed off car park with a closed gate etc. I know these things happen and I know it was not the Guests houses fault. But we were due to stay there two days later. After taking my car in to be fixed and find out all the damages etc. I had to leave my car at Suzuki for it to be fixed as I was running out of time before going overseas. ||So, I had to cancel with de Oude Meul. I thought they would be completely understanding as I had no car to get to them, I could not drive to them as I had no car to drive to them. I ask them to give me a full refund as I had to have my car fixed and I could not get to them. I did cancel with 24 hours' notice as well||They were not willing to help they wanted to give me a full credit to use in the future which does not help me as I will only be back in about 2 years. so, they offered me 50%. This does not help me either as I am out of pocked over R4000 from the damages to the car.||I did not sign any cancellation terms and conditions and no cancelation policy was explained to me. |When I did the booking, I was told to pay immediately and to make sure the money reflected immediately which also cost me money. I was told this because there was a waiting list for my room, well so much for waiting list as they could not re sell my room. I found them unhelpful and very un-friendly not interested or understanding that I could not get to them. I had to even cancel my plans that night with family as well that I was meant to meet up with. ||I would just also like to add on top of this. when we had breakfast the staff was very unfriendly. We only had a choice of a few things as part of breakfast which is great but there was loadshedding so we could not select most of it. When we asked for coffee, we were told sorry no coffee we have loadshedding so, so much for the breakfast included that I paid for we could not have much at all. there was no advanced warning about loading and what can be served and what can't be served.||The rooms are nice, and a nice size and I like the old Funiture, but the Funiture is old and very very dirty the chair in our rooms was so dirty it was sticky, and I did not want to put anything on it. The place needs a good clean. it is also very noisy as yes; it is very central but if you don't want noise 24/7 don't stay there. ||I was told that no other guest house would refund us in full which is wrong a few weeks before that I booked at a different guest house, I had to cancel the one night because of work commitments and they kindly said no problem and refunded me. I tried to book them again, but they were full that is why I booked at de Oude. This other guest house also warned me about loadshedding when I booked to make sure I was ok with it. ||Overall experience was not nice at all, It was my daughter's graduation the morning of the break in which was not the best for us but we got through it,||just really though management would be more understanding and really help me with my refund. I don't think refunding me is going to make the bankrupt.||Regards ||

Since booking communication with this venue was five stars. When the venue experienced an unplanned problem and we could not stay there they booked an alternative. A well located and similar accommodation. We arrived in the evening and the De Oude Meul manager welcomed us and did the check-in. Highly reccomended and we look forward to our stay there in future.
