A lovely cosy restaurant with top service and friendly waitrons. Food and drinks came quickly and pricing is reasonable at €24 for full 3 rack of ribs. The ribs were good. Should be softer, more fall-off-the-bone. Marinade slightly salty, and expected a bit sweeter, but I would go back because the ambience is great!

I have been enjoying the ribs at De Resident for more than 10 years. The ribs are absolutely delicious. The salad is great also. The atmosphere is fantastic. There is this famous photo in the wall of former US president Bill Clinton here . Fully recommend this restaurant in The Hague for the best ribs !

I’ve visited this town twice, both times for two main reasons: The Mauritshuis and DE RESIDENT. On one of those visits, a local friend—knowing I live in Texas—took me to try the "Resident Ribs," eager to hear my take. Let’s just say: these are the best ribs I’ve had outside of Texas. Simply amazing. As an added bonus, the Escargots are also worth mentioning — always a solid choice, and done right here. DE RESIDENT has definitely earned its spot on my must-visit list whenever I’m in town.

We really wanted to try this place while visiting and didnt managed to make a reservation. When we visited the place was full! Luckily they managed to get us a counter seat and we had our dinner. Service was great and the atmosphere was astoundingly! Will definitely recommend visiting for the steak!

Can't believe it took so long to come here. The food is fantastic. We enjoyed the lamb chops and the rib-eye steak, both of which were cooked to perfection. Excellent texture, juicy, and great flavor. The sauces we added were delicious, and made the meal even better. The portions are good sizes and well-balanced with vegetables, so you will never leave feeling hungry. Afterwards, we had dessert, which was surprisingly huge. Beware that you really may not be able to finish the dessert after the big meal! Overall, the atmosphere was amazing, we were tucked into a really cute and quiet back corner booth - which couldn't have felt more cosy. The service was very quick and friendly. Thank you for a nice experience!

We had high expectations for this restaurant, unfortunately we got disappointed. We’ve ordered ravioli with truffle and filet mignon. It was almost tasteless. Usually such pasta is cooked in creamy sauce that adds a lot of flavor. Here we just got ravioli with a lot of tasteless veggies and some random sauce from a bottle on top, looked more like a salad. The presentation is poor, I personally didn’t find it appetizing. All the same with the steak, for this dish we got fries instead of baked potato. The lemonade is just water with syrup. I do have to say that it was only 2€ so that’s understandable, but if you expect a nice homemade real lemonade then this is not the place. Our waitress forgot to put our order in the system, for this reason we had to wait for our food way longer. They came to our table to ask for order twice, and wanted to give us drinks of other clients. They also forgot to bring us the bill after we asked. This isn’t a big deal but in this case when they’ve been messing up and forgetting stuff all the time it does matter and I think it’s an important point to improve. The restaurant itself is very cozy and welcoming.

When walking in, I thought old Parisian cafe which had a Romaric ring to it perfect for our anniversary dinner. However the atmosphere of the evening was set by a rather sarcastic greeting when entering by one of the staff which was surprising. Although, the staff member who attended our table was friendly and attentive. The time between our starters, main and dessert of espresso martini was well balanced, not waiting too long but also not rushed. Our drinks remained topped up which is a positive. That aside, the starter of carpaccio and the steak were good. It just comes to show that however good the food is, when the front of house sets the tone and doesn’t work with the others, the memories of something memorable do not stay.

✨ Why do we keep returning to De Resident? ✨ Since 1977, De Resident has been a beloved staple in The Hague, serving up the best and most tender spareribs in town, pure satisfaction in every bite! 🤤 We always kick off our meal with their must-try cheesy garlic bread, served piping hot! The gooey melted cheese paired with a crispy exterior is simply irresistible. 🧄🧀 For starters, we indulged in the wagyu carpaccio drizzled with truffle mayo and Grana Padano, plus shrimp sautéed in olive oil and garlic with the perfect hint of spice. For the main event, it’s all about the Resident Ribs! This time, we couldn’t resist the mixed grill either, a fantastic choice if you’re craving a little bit of everything: ribs, tenderloin, lamb chops, and chicken fillet, all bursting with flavor. 🍖🔥 We capped off the night with our favorite dessert: vanilla ice cream drizzled with warm chocolate sauce, a sweet finale to an unforgettable meal! 🍨❤️ With its cozy atmosphere, mouthwatering dishes, and friendly service, De Resident always feels like home. We’ll definitely be back! 🏡✨

Yelp
Went in alone and ordered the spare ribs. I think there was enough for two... They were delicious, as well as the chips. The salad was not that exciting. Service was very friendly.

Yelp
We had a wonderful meal here. The ambiance is lovely and the service was attentive. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
The mixed grill was definitely enough food for two people. They managed to catch the missing whiskeysaus before sending me on my way with my takeaway, but while most of the meats didn't need it, it was a tasty semi-sweet addition to the meal. The ribs and lamb chop were our favorite meats, and the beef tenderloin was cooked nicely. The chicken breast was noticeably dry under the nice char marks, even when doused in sauce. While the sack of fries was portioned generously, I don't recommend getting them-- more starch than crisp, and they don't travel/keep well.

Yelp
Great service, amazing food and well made drinks. We got in early and best the crowds. It's a small place so plan to be early or enjoy meeting new friends at the nearby tables

Yelp
I have been to Taveerne de Resident a few times now and figured it was time to put on a review. This was a midweek meal for us and the place was still pretty busy but that is to be expected. I would always recommend reservations here to make sure you aren't disappointed. Especially if there are more than two of you. We started off at the bar and had a beer while we waited for our dining companions and I have to say they have a great selection of draft beer and spirits.. too early for the whiskeys yet though. When we had to go to the table we were, to our surprise, asked if we would like to sit in the back room. Didn't even know there was one. All that's at the back is the kitchen, right? Wrong. We were expertly navigate through the kitchen, yes I said through the kitchen. I don't have an issue with this. It means they have nothing to hide about their kitchen, not that I thought they would. Anyway, the back room was equally as gezellig and we sat down for our meal. My wife started with escargot and had ribs. I had tomato soup and mixed grill. It was fantastic. Despite my stomach telling me to stop, I couldn't, I had to eat it all. No room for dessert though so just a couple of Irish coffees. The service throughout was excellent and then check was what you would expect for the quality of food. But what about that whiskey selection? Oh yes, we decided to come back later in the week for a late night drink and had a couple of the whiskeys. It's not only a great restaurant but a great bar to sit at as well.

Yelp
Amazing meat plate! Really outstanding service and food. Strongest recommendation. I found this place on Yelp. Was a bit sceptic about the food as the restaurant looks more like a pub from the outside. I ordered the mixed grill plate. It was amazing - both in quantity and quality. Very friendly and good service.

Yelp
Yes! So, this is and has been for decades the place in The Hague where people go for spareribs. If you're a US citizen, this is nothing like you're used to! The marinade is awesome and sweet based. It's a famous recipe and well loved, so be sure to try it! This place has a very casual ambiance, always busy, so be sure to check if they have a table for you. They have plenty of other dishes, yet my advice would be take the spare ribs. Although their burgers look very nice, I've never tried them. Have tried the chicken, same marinade which is also good. Try the spareribs! If In the neighborhood and looking for a casual nice place, this is a good one to try! You can also order out (Deliveroo) and do take out!

Yelp
Everything said about the spareribs is true and more - best I've had anywhere. The sauce is really tangy and light and they don't skimp on the full size portion. I was trying to stick with the fork and knife to be polite, but there is just no way you want to leave any meat on those bones. Lots of locals which is always a good sign and the menus are only in Dutch, but you can figure it out easily. Ate at the bar since I was by myself and I was very well treated - very nice staff. Well worth the trip.

Yelp
The Taveerne is awesome. The ribs are awesome, combined with frites and a biertje or two. Definitely worth a try if your in Den Haag for a visit.

Yelp
Just go here for one thing, the spareribs. Definitely the best in town. The atmosphere is nice, lots of wood, and excellent meat. They have two main rooms on the ground floor, connected by the kitchen, each opening in a different street, right in the middle of town.

Yelp
I live in Texas and I know meat. However, I keep coming back here because the service, the food, and the gezelligness are consistently delicious. I have confidence bringing VIPs here from out of town because I know they will have a GREAT experience. I recommend the spare ribs, mixed grill, stok brood (any kind), Irish coffee as personal favorites. One note: just make sure to reserve a table - it's a popular place and the Dutch don't do walk-ins the same way Americans do.

Yelp
Nice little place. Busy. Very good ribs. Not smoked, but cooked nicely with a tasty teriyaki-like glaze.

Yelp
Best place for ribs in town. It's not Houston or Kansas City quality, but they are great for the Netherlands.
google avatar

Yelp
The best spareribs in town! For dessert you must order a 'Soes de Resident' which is whipped cream, ice and chocolate. It's a fun restaurant where people of all ages come to enjoy a relaxed night out.

Yelp
Ribs are the house specialty, and quite delicious. Service, however, was a bit spotty. Forgot our order of garlic bread, though they did later notice and apologize; and I had to ask twice for mayonnaise for my fries. For the food four stars, but with the service snafus I have to drop the overall to three. In a city like den Haag, you can do much better overall.

Yelp
Yes, the ribs are amazing ...and this from a Houston guy. But don't ignore the liver. Also wonderful. I've been coming here since 2003 and always pleased with great food and service. Brought my bride this time and she loved it too. Escargot, combo ribs/liver, baked potato, followed by my fav dessert - dame Blanche. The perfect end to a holiday in NL.
