deacons corner is such a gem with yummy delectable delicious food all around, as well as generous and filling portions. the pancakes were some of the best i’ve ever had — they were so perfectly eggy and fluffy and tasted SOOOO good with some butter and maple syrup. they were also HUGE and a good thickness. the powdered sugar on top was also a nice touch. the big mountie was also fantastic. the french toast was incredibly thick, and i loved how the juice that OOZED from the pulled pork (drenching the toast), the syrup, and the egg wash made it a bit soggy and mushy (in the best way). speaking of the maple syrup, it was SO gooey and SO good paired with EVERYTHINGGG. it had a hint of cinnamon flavour that really enhanced everything it touched. as i said, the pulled pork is your classic diner sweet pulled pork, but somehow even juicier. i loved the fried chicken even more, which was salty and peppery and warm underneath the stacks of french toast. although i do wish the chicken was a bit thicker or bigger. also i totally recommend putting some of their hot sauce on the eggs — it was so spicy and gave such a nice KICK, and really shook up the flavour. the biscuits were also quite yummy, as they were fluffy and soft and so good with the salty butter melted in. however, they did get a little bit dry and definitely aren’t the beSt biscuits i’ve had. i also wish the exterior was a bit crunchier/baked more maybe? the blueberry pie was pretty good, with a nice and buttery crust, but i think there was too much filling. the blueberry was kind of sour and overpowering, and although the ice cream did balance it out a bit with its sweet dairy creaminess, i prefer pies with a bigger emphasis on the crust.

Tucked just off the touristy area of Gastown, this gem is one you should visit. A neighborhood fave that never disappoints, serving large portions of comfort food for the soul. Staff are welcoming and efficient, nothing is too much trouble and they have great suggestions and specials. Refills of their delicious coffee are offered before your cup is empty, at no extra charge. The pancakes are excellent, as is the French toast. Try the scramble, it’s also great and generously stuffed with goodies. Highly recommended when you are in the area .

Loved everything about this cozy brunch spot in Gastown! Started with a warm peppermint tea that set the mood just right. We had the Chicken Club Sandwich and Deacon’s Chicken Burger—both fresh, tasty, and satisfying. The yam fries and poutine upgrade was totally worth it! Ended on a sweet note with their dessert of the day: apple pie topped with fresh fruit and vanilla ice cream. The retro diner vibe and comforting food make this place a perfect pick for rainy days, brunch dates, or chill mornings. Highly recommend checking out their Two Can Dine special!

Finally tried Deacon’s Corner. I was excited as this was the only American style diner around here. There were many enticing items on the menu. Had the chicken, biscuit, and gravy. It’s the cleanest breakfast plate I’ve ever had, with no charred bits from the pan/flattop. Left full. Only disappointment was no chicken fried steak. Service was fast. Will definitely come back. Please add hush puppies to the menu. No one else has them in this city.

Google
Went there twice for the chicken n waffles bc it was cooked to perfection. Each time I went the server was very polite and attentive. Deff recommend this place for breakfast! Delicious 😋 had the Mountie this time I went it was French toast with pulled pork n fried chicken in between n 2 fried eggs on top. It was so good! Deff will be returning for another dish I want to try!

Aida the server was so attentive and never let my glass of water go empty at all ❤️ The place has been around for as long as I can remember. The servings are humongous! I tried the country friend steak and it was so filling. 1 big hunk of steak and 3 full eggs. I am good for the day 😂

Fun diner on the corner of Main St near the heart of the Downtown Eastside. If there were more places like Deacon's Corner in the area, it would go a long way in transforming the DE in a positive way! I got the mexican scramble and a booze latte. Both were quite good, but as I was in a rush I didn't get too long to look at the menu and ponder much else. The service was good, the decor is fun, and the place (inside) is warm and inviting. I am excited to return and take some more time with the menu in the future!

Yelp
I took my college friend to Deacon's Corner Gastown for brunch, and we had an awesome time! The place has a cool, classic diner feel that made us feel really comfortable. The staff were super friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. We decided to try the Big Mountie, and it was amazing! It's this big stack of brioche slices with pulled pork, Swiss cheese, crispy fried chicken, and sunny eggs on top. Every bite was delicious and really filling. We also had the chicken benny, and French toast- both were super delish, and the bottomless coffee kept us going. The portions were generous, and everything tasted fantastic. It was a great spot for a relaxed brunch with a friend, and we both left happy and satisfied. If you're looking for good vibes and tasty food, Deacon's Corner is definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
Wow, wow, wow I really loved this place. The food was probably the best we've had all weekend in Vancouver. The waiters were extremely nice and made time to chat with us during our time there. Not sure if it's women-owned but it was super cool to see only women staff.

Yelp
Fun, funky, cute diner vibes. Generous portions for breakfast. Great bread for our toast.

Yelp
The food is standard fair but the prices are outrageous and the service good until the manager showed up with a stick up her ass.

Yelp
Frequented about 10 times in 2017 and 2018. And now in 2024. Great food. Great service. And can see other customers experienced the same as well. Great atmosphere. Parking easy on the weekdays.

Yelp
Old school diner nothing fancy. I had the fried chicken eggs Benny it was okay. The hollandaise wasn't the best. The fried chicken was the best part if I was to go again I would try their chicken burger instead. My partner had corned beef hash. It wasn't the best. The meat was so fatty the ratio of peppers to everything else was also way off(way too much). The pepper could have done with a few more mins on the top. It gets a 3* the service was good the ladies were nice and we were seated pretty quickly for a Sunday.

Yelp
The food is alright at best, super overpriced and in the poorest neighborhood in Canada, the bathrooms are disgusting, toilet paper kept directly in the floor, garbage in the stall is taped shut. $27.00 for Quesadilla, side of bacon and a Diet Pepsi. When I emailed the response was not at all humble, blaming area, people from the neighborhood and inflation. Do not go!

Yelp
Was searching Vancouver for a good greasy soon diner. I found what I was looking for right here at Deacon's Corner. I was craving a classic biscuits, gravy and hash browns. This delivered! I had breakfast here and was full until mid-afternoon. Hit the spot!

Yelp
Old school diner décor with friendly staff (complete with red booth tables). It's a pretty spacious restaurant. There is decently priced parking nearby (I think it was around $2/hour, meter parking) that is within a 5 min walk from the restaurant. It is a slightly sketchy area though. MONSTROUS burger with 2pc of fried chicken and Chipotle mayo. They only use chicken breast so it can get a tad dry. I also liked their buttermilk biscuit, served with sausage gravy and more chicken. Definitely super filling. Bonus points for having milk alternatives available with the coffee. My order: Chicken Giant Burger ($19.75) Chicken & Biscuits w/ Gravy ($16) Coffee

Yelp
Met a friend of mine who works for the Aboriginal Open Door Society for lunch yesterday and he chose Deacon Corner at 101 Main street. We got there about 1:15 pm and the place wasn't busy at all. My friend Earl and I sat down and the waitress came and put two glasses of water on the table. The water was warm and we were not given any Ice after I specifically Asked for ICE water. After ordering our food I had a hamburger and fries Earl had bacon and eggs. The food came I received a plate with a small burger which consisted of meat and a bun nothing else the fries were cold and hard. Earls bacon was Ice cold and NOT once did the waitress come by to see how the food was. After waiting 10 minutes for someone to collect our plates when we were done, I had to get up and ask for the bill and a take out container for my friends food. The blonde waitress who served us stood behind the counter talking to the other waitress totally ignoring us. I eventually walked up to a woman who was drying silver ware and asked 'politely for the bill and a take-out container. When she came back with the bill she put a small takeout container on the table. Our plates were not even removed from the table and she didn't even put my friend Earls food in the takeout box. I want to also mention when our food was delivered it wasn't even put in front of us like it would be in any other restaurant. It was placed at the end of the table. The way we were treated in The Deacon Corner was beyond disrespectful and the food was old and cold....... They treated my friend Earl with such disrespect and I want everyone to know about how horribly we were treated. The bill came to $42.00 Which is a total rip off. My friend is Aboriginal and works very hard in the Down Town East Side taking care of people and I will NOT let anyone disrespect him especially a waitress from a greasy spoon restaurant. There is a word for the way we were treated at this restaurant on Friday. Can anyone guess what that word might be?

Yelp
Tried Deacons Corner as I had a Travelzoo voucher for 2-for-1 burgers. The deal was for a beef or chicken burger with a side of fries or salad. We had a beef burger and a chicken burger and upgraded the fries to poutine. I asked for the chicken burger without a bun and it came on some lettuce. The burgers were tasty and cooked nicely. The chicken patty was lightly fried and came with a delicious sauce. It was nice to also have a side salad included. 4 stars for the diner style food but there were a couple of mistakes: we ordered two poutines but they came with yam fries instead of regular fries, so we had to wait for them to fix the orders. They also made a mistake on the bill charging more than what was on the menu, but the server fixed it quickly. Aside from these glitches, Deacons Corner is worth a visit for your diner style food cravings!

Yelp
A group of unprofessional people. If you order food from here they will let you wait for long times. They would not let you wait inside for your food. How unprofessional

Yelp
I love Freakin Deacons! The folks sure know how to crack them eggs. Juicy crunchy hash browns and the toast did the trick too. Plus the BELTCH had me doin' just that! This place only has one downside! Let's just say the bacon strips on my plate weren't the only pigs in the place. The damn fuzz was crawling all over the place. That ain't my vibe!!!

Yelp
One of my favorite affordable breakfast spots. We usually stop by a couple of times a month when we feel like having a warm and cozy breakfast. The environment has a simple and sweet diner feel. The service is always good and they always check up on you as well to make sure you have everything you need. Everyone is always friendly and kind, which makes our dining experience even better each time. I always order the same thing, two eggs is what they call it. Choice of bacon, ham or sausage patty, grilled tomato, hash brown & toast. All for only $8.75, you can't go wrong. Portions are big and everything is cooked very well. The hashbrowns are to die for, something very simple but tastes so good. Always crispy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. I have also tried their biscuit sausage and gravy and also their chicken and biscuit with gravy. Both are not bad, sometimes the batter is very heavy on the chicken. Definitely recommend Deacon's Corner to anyone who hasn't tried it. I don't think you will be disappointed with great service, great food, and great prices.

Yelp
A surprisingly pleasant place to go and wind down for awhile. I typically drop by a few times every month for a meal, and always end up happy with both the quality and quantity of the food that I get for the money I paid. The cooking is consistent, the service is good, and the general atmosphere is compelling -- I'd recommend it for a day where you're looking to relax and eat something casual.

Yelp
Deacon's Corner has the perfect balance of old school diner meets contemporary cool foodie hangout. Do not let my photographs fool you. There were always people coming in and out of Deacon's Corner with smiles on their faces and a nice thing to say. (I just like to try and respect people's privacy when I can.) In fact the serving staff were so super friendly and cheerful, you can not help but be in a good mood when you visit. One of the guests told us that before their recent renovations the place truly looked like it had been plucked out of the 60s, but with all the wear and tear, so the changes were great improvements. I loved it. A perfect blend of retro and modern. We both ordered the Carolina Pulled Pork and Pancakes but got the mini (yes, that is the small portion) which Chef J. C. (Juan Carlo) used his creative and artistic foodie talents to make extra special for us! Oh my goodness I could not stop laughing when this adorable plate came to our table! And wow, WOW, it was so good! The eggs were butter-basted, the pulled pork sweet but not too sweet, absolutely delicious, and I think those were the fluffiest pancakes I have ever had. I have not stopped thinking about this delicious brunch since I indulged... Deacon's Corner may not have been around since the 50s (they opened in 2009) but it has to be one of the coolest diners I have ever visited. Its location bridges East Van and Gastown so its setting is a little rough around the edges but the customers and staff make it feel like home. It was the perfect brunch. Everything was charming and the food? OMG, the food was so delicious. I MUST go back! You can find my full review here: http://www.suziethefoodie.com/brunch-deacons-corner-gastown/

Yelp
JOANA .. the server , called me an IDIOT AND A BITCH .. how is this person even allowed to serve anyone ??? I've come here to eat chicken and waffles quite a few times in the past and everyone has always been wonderful .. EXCEPT TODAY. I got coffee and asked for heavy cream .. she said " what do you mean we have regular cram " I said " Like liquid whipping cream ". She says we don't have it and storms off .. comes back brings me coffee and some creamers . I asked again for heavy cream she raises her voice said "'we don't have it where do you want me to get it from " I asked her to ask the kitchen please . She then proceeded to go to the window at the kitchen and tell the cook to come out and tell this person himself that he doesn't have heavy cream .. ( all this said using rude terms in Spanish ... he shows her a carton of heavy cream and said he has it .. she then says in Spanish " this idiot that's not what he's asked for " referring to me .... anyways her attitude continues as she then throws down the container with Splenda after I asked her for some. Then suddenly when she takes my food order she's now acting all friendly and bubbly. At the end of my meal I ask her to speak to her for A minute .. I RECORDED THE ENTIRE CONVERSATION .. I confronted her and told her I speak Spanish and understood all the rude remarks she said about me . She got really defensive and basically wanted me to shut up. As if all this wasn't bad enough .. When I was walking out the door I said to her .. learn to be kind to people specially if you are gojng to decide to bad mouth them in your language workout knowing if they speak it too. She kept telling me to get out of the restaurant being extremely rude . As she went to close the door I say lean to treat your customers with respect and she says .. " LEARN TO BE A MAN BITCH ." Not sure what she meant by it but none the less it's WRONG .. I'll Be contacting her manager tomorrow for sure ..

Yelp
This lovely little place was a frequent spot for me while we filmed nearby for a few days. They are so accommodating to everyone and I managed to get an order of bacon, eggs and avacado to go every day. The staff are friendly and there is loads of seating. If you are looking for a quick, tasty bite in the area and don't want to spend a load of money, I suggest this place. Wonderful people, yummy food, cool design!

Yelp
A lovely unpretentious diner. If you want that uncomplicated diner coffee in a relaxed setting, look no further. You won't find the regular brunch crowds or flocks of foodies here. The food is ok, not fantastic, not terrible. Had the Mountie breakfast - massive portion. If you come in with a food critic's mindset, go elsewhere. This is just food. Great place just to sit and eat.

Yelp
Originally we were going to go to Jam on Beatty's for breakfast but there was a huge line outside so we found Deacon's Corner instead and it was amazing! There is street parking right outside and we were able to be seated immediately. The first day my boyfriend got the Gastown breakfast and I had the cheesy bacon benny from the specials on the chalkboard. The food was so amazing on our first morning in Vancouver that we stopped by again on our last morning! The last morning we came, my boyfriend had the chicken fried steak and I had regular benny, no ham, but add on bacon and cheddar for $2 each. The steak in the chicken fried steak was not good however the benny was still so yummy! This place is an amazing place for breakfast if you're looking for a small restaurant with no long lines!

Yelp
If you're hungry, this is the place to come!! The chicken fried steak and gravy is huge and delicious and the servers are super nice!

Yelp
Visited the Kits location on December 29 2020 for early lunch. Ordered two eggs and sausage, our son ordered Cheese burger and French fries and my wife ordered breakfast quesadilla. The sausage was made of quality patties way better from what you get at grocery store. The hash brown on the dish was a large scoop golden yellow. ( none of the food items were oily or greasy ) My wife complimented the taste and quality of her quesadilla. The hamburger bun was very beautiful brioche, the patty was made in house from fresh meat. Sauce and trimming was superb. My son a five years old finish the golden fries and hamburger to the last bit, and he loved it. Even thought we had a meal in a diner but the quality and flavour was to its best. Service was quick and pleasant what you except to receive in a Resturant. I rate the price more than fair. The price competes not only with fast food also with other local diners in Vancouver area, however you wouldn't see this quality at other similar diners. This wasn't my first visit to this restaurant, I would highly recommend it to all. Two hands down the best. simple food at its best with a price you wouldn't get anywhere else.

Yelp
I woke up today craving something I haven't had since I lived in the southern United States, and that was biscuits and sausage gravy. So I searched and found out this place had em! So I came to try and got the country fried chicken with biscuits and sausage gravy. I'm mainly writing this review for anyone e who has had sausage gravy in the south before. If you have, the sausage gravy at Deacons is not what you're looking for. Sausage gravy is supposed to be salty and have tons of ground sausage in the gravy, this gravy has no sausage at all. None, not one tiny piece and it was more on the sweet side. The food was still good, the chicken was cooked to perfection. But I was disappointed in the sausage gravy. I will continue my search for some authentic southern sausage gravy.

Hugh G.

Yelp
Won't be going back. Ordered 3 burgers and dessert and trudged through ice and snow to collect the order. Got home to find they'd forgotten the dessert! (3 burgers and dessert is not a complicated order!) When we called the guy immediately admitted he forgot our dessert, but refused to put a refund on our credit card. He insisted we trudge back through ice and snow if we wanted a refund.

Yelp
Came here on Sunday with a group of 5 that quickly became of a group of 7; most places would flip out over this very fact, but the folks at Deacons just grabbed more cutlery and menus and made us feel right at home. Our waitress happily jumped up on a chair and took a sweet team photo of all 7 of us and she split the bills out without even being asked to. The portions here are masssssive (my pancake was the size of a dinner plate: fluffy and amazing), the service is fast and efficient and the prices are most definitely right. We came here for a boozy breakfast and managed to drink Deacon's out of vodka, but they happily ran over to the liquor store to buy more: hooray!

Yelp
Awesome burger place with all the stuff in the breakfast menu to die for! I have had the veggie scrambled eggs with hash browns and multigrain bread! Superbly filling!

I dont have nothing to complain about . Outstanding service and delicious food! Big and tasty breakfast. Was my first time but not last time :) Highly recommend!

Yelp
I love Deacon's small old school dinner feel. The energy and friendliness you feel right when you walk through the door are contagious. No matter how busy it is, the staff always make sure to acknowledge and communicate with you. I've tried a few items on the menu including: Breakfast: Chocolate chip pancakes French toast with compote Little carolina pulled pork pancakes Gastown breakfast Lunch: Pesto mac & cheese Crispy chicken wrap (amazing!!!) I have never been disappointed by any of my choices. Impressed with how quickly the food came out despite how busy it is on weekend mornings. Always blown away by the service - staff were attentive, quick and very friendly!

Yelp
This place was very busy when we got there for breakfast, which somewhat surprised me given it's location. Need to mention that parking may be a bit of a pain b/c only street is available, unless you walk or take transit. I'm a fan of diners and I will go out of my way just to try them. This place did not disappoint me for what it was. Clean, friendly, good breakfast food. I want to compare it to Bon's off Broadway, but that would not do it justice, the food is much better here, albeit a bit more $$'s. French toast....yum! The 2 eggs any style, can't really go wrong-and the house made sausage patty was a treat. I would definitely return.
google avatar

Yelp
Came over to use up a groupon for hamburgers. The waitress was very friendly and the diner was cool. However there was nothing noteworthy about their burgers, fries or side salad.

Yelp
A bunch of us made the trip to the edge of Gastown to grab lunch. I was impressed and overwhelmed by the lengthy menu and hearty all-day breakfast service. Deacon's famous for their Carolina pancakes with one giant buttermilk pancake layered with pulled pork and two eggs. It looked and apparently was dangerously delicious. A healthier option, the Cobb salad, was also pretty ridiculous in size and heartiness. I had the "outrageous" fried chicken and biscuits with sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, and corn grits. Everyone seemed envious of my pick. The chicken was well-cooked and scrumptious as was the gravy covered biscuits. Sandra ordered the B.E.L.T.C.H. sandwich with bacon, a fried egg, lettuce, tomato, and cheese with hash browns. It was like a tasty B.L.T. on steroids. I was very satisfied with the food, company, and conversation at Deacon's. Check out this hip diner if you're in the Gastown/Chinatown/Railtown area.

Brian Q.

Yelp
Great comfort food and brunch! Oh, that sausage gravy! The fried chicken is great, especially with the cheese and gravy. Their waffles were really good, I love how they are a bit sweet and well done that I can eat them without syrup

Yelp
I went with my uncle who had wanted to try this place out. It has a neat little diner feel that adds character with old photos of the city. The restaurant was pretty much empty when we went, maybe us and two other tables. The service wasn't great but far from poor. The waitress was nice, checked up on us a couple times and got the job done. The food I was a little disappointed with. I ordered the southern crisp fried chicken wrap and substituted the fries for beef chili fries. My uncle ordered the 2pc southern fried chicken main. When the food arrived at our table it looked delicious and photo worthy. However, everything tasted like it needed salt, and I'm not one that puts a lot of salt on my food. Also, the chicken in both our meals was dry and wasn't crispy at all; it didn't have that signature crunch I was expecting from a piece of southern fried chicken. My beef chili fries were also hard to get through. I needed more water as the combination of the chili and thick cut fries that were dry made it difficult to swallow. The prices weren't bad at all. $10.50 for a chicken wrap (chili fries was extra) and $12.50 for a main are both very reasonable. Initially after leaving I had no urge to try Deacon's Corner again. But having talked with friends they have told me that if you go there, the breakfast is the thing to order. Being a sucker for an all-day breakfast menu I have considered going back at least one more time.

Steven L.

Yelp
One time my friend ordered a beer and the waiter didn't bring it. The place wasn't even busy at the time I was served undercooked french toast The mirror in the washroom is double sided, either there is person or camera behind it. The food is inconsistent, sometimes it has flavour most of the time it is bland

Yelp
Yes a diner style place, NO - not "divey" at all. Very hip! and clientele to match. The big guy and I were in a hurry and guess what, so were they. We watched as the place filled up. The meal tickets lined up in the window of the open kitchen and we bit our nails and wondered which one was ours. We got our meal quickly and we were served politely. Very good lunch deals, and the hash browns have a little kick of their own ;-} ALSO NOTE: There is an Espresso Machine he-he-he and baked goodies too. Visit number TWO... Even happier. They went out of their ways to accommodate my Gluten problem, by grilling instead of deep frying my fish for Fish N Chips. We had a vegan with us and she was happy with her food as well. YAY. ... BONUS point just because we always find parking too. Visit #3 ! Damn, I AM a fan !

Yelp
My accurate rating would be 2.5 stars but I decided to round up cuz I'm in a good mood. Been there twice. First was after googgling 'chicken fried steak' and the second was because I wanted their coffee again. First visit: The chicken fried steak was okay. The portion was humongous but the steak: not so good-a little too cooked, tough, not so flavourful but the gravy was very tasty. The coffee was freaking delicious. Second visit: The pancakes: again, just okay. Huge portion, weird flavour. They didn't taste like pancakes. They had a very strange egg-y flavour. Coffee again, superb. The B.E.L.T.C.H looked great and I'll likely order that next time. I'll definitely try them again because I wanna try the biscuits and I love their coffee.

Yelp
Very nice diner, great comfort food. Order the BELTCH and make sure you add avocado to it. Hmmm, North American Diners.... *insert heart here*

Yelp
Deacon's Corner ministers to those in need of an old-school diner with all the fixin's, from the steel-rimmed stools, booths, and counters to the jukebox chanting Elvis tunes. There seems to be a trinitarain motif uniting many of the breakfast dishes here: eggs come in threes, as do the slices of French toast and bacon; each plate consists of three distinct sections--e.g. toast/eggs/meat; hash/eggs/chicken-fried-steak. Speaking of steak, the peppery batter was nice and crisp, providing textural contrast to the thick white gravy. While it definitely harks back to some comfort grub from the deep South, it's better than many a country/chicken-fried steak I've had across America. Yes, Deacon's chicken fried steak should be beatified. The sausage patties, however, are tough and much too salty. And carbofanatics won't find any perfervid pleasures here: the biscuits, while serviceable, are not particularly memorable and the hashed/grated potatoes were dry and bland. But the place is clean, as are the food and devoted folks who work here. And strong coffee succeeds in reviving the weary and troubled souls. Merry times all around.

Yelp
VERY filling! Not one person in our party of 6 starving people was able to finish their meal. We all waddled back to the office from our lunch and swore that was our dinners as well. I had the breakfast (for lunch) and it was huge and good.

Yelp
I don't know if it just an off day but the service was horrendous. We had to try to get the staff's attention in an empty restaurant several times before getting our drinks. This continued to happen then we waiting to pay for almost an hour. Food isn't excellent either but it's what to be expected at a diner.

Yelp
Deacon's is a typical diner, grease spoon. And I loved it. I got the veggie hash (mushrooms, peppers, onions, spinach) and I added hollandaise. It had a pool of grease on the bottom of my plate so I knew it was going to be good. And it was! It was exactly what you would expect! Great place to have a hangover brunch, decent service, reasonable prices. I also ordered a caesar which was not so good. It was flavorless and watery. But I'd come again!

Yelp
Who's runs out of hollandaise sauce when it's still AM. Or in general considering how easy it is to make. Seems to be their normal, according to past reviews. This mom and pop shop in a rundown building, should be shut down permanently.

Yelp
Once again, food adventure with Beck at my request! After watching back to back episodes of Eat St and Driver, Dine-Ins and Dive, I developed an intense craving for a good biscuit with gravy. Deacon's Corner has been on my To-Try list for a while so...HERE WE GO! (And apparently, I mix up or make up restaurant's name. I told Beck that we go to Top Deacon and she was so confused...) We arrived at around 11:30 and there was quite a few parties waiting already. I had worked up my appetite and anticipate good food soo much that my stomach was growling before we even got there. We asked for the menu while waiting so that when we are seated, we can order immediately! We waited for around 20 min as there were 5 parties before us. That 20 min sure seems forever when you wait on an empty stomach.... My bf decided on the small Carolina Pancake (pull-pork with pancakes), Beck got the Sausage/chorizo hash. Me...it took a long time to decide! I wanted biscuit and gravy for sure but to get that with chicken fried steak or with sausage or with fried chicken? They all sound so fabulous right? How can you decide! In the end, friend chicken won. I felt like a Southern Belle eating the typical southern food? Service was typical. We got our water, utensils, and waitor came to take our orders. Staff was friendly and our water was filled once. No major complains or compliments. NOW FOOD! Carolina Pancake...the pancakes were big and yet fluffy! I say they are comparable to Jethro's! The pull-pork was tender and sweet and went well with pancake. Good thing the boy got a small...he just finished the plate! Can't imagine what is the portion like with the Big Carolina! Beck's sausage hash was my favourite dish amongst the 3! The chorizo so tasty and not overly spicy. The hash....OH THE HASH...SO CRISPY AND WELL SEASONED. The whole dish was just delicious! Also it came with 2 eggs and Beck like it sunny side up. She poked thro the egg yolk and let it ran all over the dish. That is the only reason that stopped me from asking her for more. I prefer the egg yolk doesn't contaminate my food. To the boy's surprise, Beck finished the big plate. It is quite impressive for a tiny girl to polish all the entire plate of greasy goodness. My dish of fried chicken with biscuit...Hit and miss. To my major disappointment, the biscuit did not live up to my anticipation and some of the reviews. They were so dense and thick. It wasn't really enjoyable even with some of the delicious white gravy. I had a quarter to half of the biscuit and then I stopped eating that altogether. To my surprise though, the friend chicken totally made up for it! Behind the light and crispy exterior, the meat was moist and juicy. With some of the gravy, it was a joyous moment in my mouth. The dish also came with grits. I did not like it and it is not really worth mentioning. The boy liked the texture and finished it for me. All in all, good diner food with great portion size. Worth coming back!

Yelp
Please remember that 3 stars according to Yelp is "A-ok",... meaning I like it, and in this case I'd do 3.5 if I could for this good comfort food joint. I've been her 3 times: once for breakfast and 2 times for dinner. Both dinners were using Groupons. For some reason, on our breakfast trip we either were there before they updated the menu,.. or made the most boring choices ourselves because that visit was hardly memorable except that I recall thinking (and still do) that this place is a cool location (I like unique places) and was a comfy diner (sort of like Save-on-Meats - in fact that is the best comparison for this place). Biscuits?! Pulled pork pancakes?! What was I thinking? For dinner, the menu is somewhat limited but everything I've tried was tasty comfort food. The ribs and fired chicken being the standouts. And for a diner, good pie is a must,.. and theirs is ok too. I've seen some poor reviews about service but that NEVER crossed my mind on any of my 3 visits,.. in fact I've found diners to be the best places often for old style service that I like. Lastly, this place does have a very slight "hipster" vibe (in the good way), again like Save-on-Meats, but I'd say it is welcoming for all, even us gore-tex wearing, boring folks.

Yelp
I love this cute little diner! It's a perfect place for some old school comfort food. I got the pulled pork monte cristo, which was basically a generous portion of pulled pork sandwiched in-between 2 thick pieces of cinnamon French toast topped with over easy eggs. Absolutely delicious! The service is speedy and I loved how every one just smiled at you as they walked by! How pleasant and uplifting. The area is rather sketchy (downtown east side) but this little whole in the wall was worth the borderline creepy walk/bus ride! I sat at the bar with my friend and it was just a very delightful experience. The old art is a very nice touch!

Yelp
I come here on Sunday's with my bf twice a month. It's the perfect spot to wear sunglasses and pig out when you're hungover but you can also still take your mom here for brunch. It's tasty af. Highly recommend.
