Henry Ford’s Historic Dearborn Inn Reopens in Michigan - AFAR

"Originally commissioned by Henry Ford in 1931 and designed by Albert Kahn, this Georgian-style, National Register–listed airport hotel reopened on March 19, 2025 after a two-year restoration that aimed to preserve its most storied elements while updating guest amenities. The restoration — led by Ford Land with Ford archival teams, the Ford family, and design partners including AvroKO, Dash Design, Kraemer Design Group, and Quinn Evans — retains features like the lobby’s checkerboard Italian marble floor chosen by Ford and the original green marble fireplace, and displays archival artifacts such as guest scrapbooks and vintage menus (one even signed by Walt Disney). Interiors celebrate Michigan makers with Knoll Warren Platner and Eames seating, Loja Saarinen–inspired rugs, aviation nods (including a Tri‑Motor–themed photobooth), and guestrooms with four‑poster walnut beds, archive‑inspired artwork, and bathrooms clad in Ford Pantone blue tiles; the property offers 135 rooms, 19 suites plus a Presidential Suite, and summer additions of five standalone houses inspired by literary figures that can be booked individually or as a buyout. Dining highlights include Clara’s Table, a tribute to Henry Ford’s wife Clara featuring herb-forward dishes like Welsh rarebit, cipollini and pear tatin, and short rib croquettes sourced from the hotel’s garden, and Four Vagabonds, a study‑like cocktail bar serving local beers and themed cocktails such as the Georgia Bound and the Smoky Trail; a private dining room with a mural by Detroit artist Ryan Herberholz seats up to 20. Set on 23 acres adjacent to the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village and about 15 minutes from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, the property blends aviation and automotive history with contemporary design and rates beginning around $350 per night." - Devorah Lev-Tov

I was nervous when we checked into a room next to the stairs and facing the construction. Thankfully it was never an issue and we had a very comfortable stay. I thought the combination ice and water machines were delightful, but needed clear labels for clean and dirty glasses. The rooms were clean, quiet and well maintained, the staff pleasant and helpful. The amenities are nice, with both an iron and a steamer, pleasant smelling soaps and nice towels. The real MVP of our stay was the bartender on the night of (7/25). He held down a very busy bar with kindness and grace. The catering manager that came in to help was also very pleasant.

The Inn was wonderful as we expected. Beautiful common areas, big rooms, elegant decor finishes and nice touches like a big closet, magnifying make up mirror, steamer, counter space, etc. ||The staff was first class. Their trainers have done an excellent job of hiring and training.|| Joseph, the welcoming bellman, was delightful. During our three-day stay he became a friend. He was smiling, happy, conversational, proud to talk about the property and helpful in every way.||Terence, checking us in was professional and truly proud of the property.||We and Jay, another most professional bellman, had a great conversation of how important customer service and attitude is in the hospitality industry. The staff here really “gets it” and we appreciated their dedication and professionalism.||The hotel was the perfect place to stay in Dearborn. We will seek other Autograph properties in the future.

We had a wonderful stay at The Dearborn Inn July 20-24, 2025. The hotel offers beautiful, quiet spaces that exude relaxed elegance and a peaceful atmosphere.|🌟 The staff truly made our visit special:|• Front Desk: Michael greeted us warmly daily and provided fantastic recommendations for dining, sightseeing, and even the hotel’s fascinating history.|• Bell Services: Joseph assisted with our luggage, offered daily assistance, and was always ready with a friendly restaurant or local tip. Jay’s cheerful daily greetings and conversation were a lovely touch.|• Management: Desmond and Ahmed ensured everything ran smoothly behind the scenes.|• Housekeeping: Our room was consistently clean and refreshed, thanks to the diligent cleaning staff.|Our room was beautifully appointed, with a comfortable bed that left us feeling well-rested each day.|🍽️ On-site Dining Highlights:|• Four Vagabonds served up an adventurous menu in a cozy, intimate setting. The friendly, conversational bartender shared great local insights, and the food was absolutely delicious—especially the pickle plate, the incredibly tender roast beef on rye, and the tallow frites.|• Clara’s Table quickly became a favorite. Huge shout out to Sylvia, Dominic, and Alaina for their warm, attentive service. Everything we tried was fresh and well-prepared: at breakfast, the omelet and soft scramble were standouts; at dinner, the snapper and half chicken were flavorful and perfectly cooked.|🌿 Between the elegant ambiance, outstanding service, and memorable meals, The Dearborn Inn was a highlight of our trip. We will gladly return and highly recommend it for anyone looking for comfort, charm, and great hospitality.

Amazing place to stay, Love the old brick building exteriors but the exquisite, wonderful ambiance inside. The breakfast was great, they had limited vegetarian options but quickly gave us helpful suggestions and offered fresh juice and food. We had farmers toast which was tasty! On the final day, I had requested an extension as our flight was bit delayed, Courtney was very nice to help us by extending for a few hours. The front desk staff, the bar staff and the housekeeping staff were friendly and awesome. Would definitely return.

Just wrapped up another work trip staying at the Dearborn Inn. This hotel is easily my favorite to stay at when in Dearborn. Staff are all extremely pleasant, welcoming, and helpful. Appreciated the reception and breakfast vouchers as an Elite member. The effort and thought put into the redesign make for an impressive aesthetic that pays hommage to the Dearborn Inn's impressive history. As someone working in the auto industry, I really enjoyed walking through the hallways to see the artwork and vintage Ford prints throughout the hotel. Both the lounge and restaurant were excellent, particularly enjoyed the food and drink offerings in the Four Vagabonds lounge throughout the week. Looking forward to coming back soon!

Stayed in the Junior Suite for 1 night before our flight, to be closer to the airport. Beautiful hotel with rich history, everything is sparkling new but very tastefully done as to not outshine the original beauty of the old building. The staff was polite and welcoming. The beds are comfortable and our room was very quiet so we could get some much needed rest. Very close to Greenfield Village and Ford Museum.

Amazing stay at the Dearborn Inn! The customer service from the front desk, to the restaurant staff, to the housekeeping were absolutely fantastic! Without a doubt one of the best hotel experiences I have had. The newly renovated rooms were clean, super comfortable and beautifully decorated. I had a truly wonderful experience at the Dearborn Inn and plan to stay here again the next time I'm in town. What a beautiful place!

I personally have been going to the Dearborn Inn for dining for many years and have always enjoyed it. We've held numerous special occasions there and it was always one of my dad's favorite places for dinner. Today I took my husband to Clara's Table for Father's day brunch. The food and service were excellent. The prices were also what I would have expected for this type of restaurant. However, ( yes, there's a however), I was extremely disappointed in the decor. It's UBER modern and lacks the charm and personality which was a signature of the Dearborn Inn. There's no connection to the history that should have been paramount in the designs during the remodeling. There is only 3 connections to Henry Ford. There is a small table in the lobby with a few old pictures. The pictures did not even have any identifications. The other connections are the names of the restaurant, Clara's Table, named for Henry's wife, and the name of the bar, the 4 Vagabonds. This refers to Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, and John Burroughs. These were four friends that each year took a camping trip together. I'm very disappointed. I think the Marriott corporation could have done a better job. The Marriott corporation missed the mark in tying the wonderful history of the Dearborn Inn to the remodeling effort.

Yelp
We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful hotel. The grounds are immaculate and inviting. Upon entering the lobby, it was like taking a step back in time. Rather than one of those bustling, loud hotels, this one was warm and relaxing. The staff are friendly and pleasant. Our room was wonderful. The bed was so comfortable, and the bathroom was gorgeous. There is even a Nespresso machine with coffee and tea. There is also ample self-parking in their large lot. We won't hesitate to return when visiting the area.

Yelp
If you are going to stay in Dearborn this historic hotel is beautiful and well kept. Rooms were well designed and the service is friendly and always available. First class. One area they lack is they are located within Walking distance of Greenfield Village and The Ford museum. Currently there is construction, making the commute to the attractions impossible to walk to and they offer no service to get to the attractions (the main reason to stay there). This might sound silly, but they park a very nice Ford in front of the front hotel door to advertise Ford (literally), but they can't use a Ford to drive you to the Ford museum? Getting an Uber to drive a quarter of a mile is ridiculous.

Yelp
We moved from MI two years ago but fly back often to spend time with family. We have been waiting patiently for the Dearborn Inn to reopen, and we were not disappointed! Our room was beautiful (see pics). We were only there for an overnight as we had an early flight (and so convenient to the airport). We look forward to visiting again in the future.
