December Thieves

Google
A longtime admirer and online customer, I finally had a chance to visit the store on a weekend trip to Boston. It felt like home. The space is beautifully curated, full of avant-garde treasures made with intention and care. If you appreciate interesting silhouettes and bold textures, you’ll never want to leave. The staff is fantastic. Each salesperson is incredibly knowledgeable of each designer carried, explaining the idiosyncrasies of each label while providing an excellent shopping experience. I trusted their feedback on fit and tailoring and am ecstatic about my purchases. The Thieves respect design and artistry, which in this day and age is becoming harder and harder to come by. The entire visit of December Thieves left me with the peace that comes with being understood by kindred spirits who appreciate the power of adornment.

Really cool vibe. It's a lot of neutrals and blacks, which is totally my thing, mixed with several independent designers from the whole world over -- also my thing. I can't believe I hadn't heard of this place before. After my first visit, I kept remembering a Barbara Bologna dress I had tried on, so I had to go back today and buy it. Totally gorgeous space, and a well-curated collection. Not your average boutique at all. My new fave place for specialty pieces!

One of my favorite stores in Boston! Great selection of unique pieces that you can't find elsewhere. The inventory is always being updated and refreshed so there's something new every visit. Everyone there is so friendly, helpful, and inviting. Definitely recommend stopping in if you're in the area!

It’s been ages since my last visit to December Thieves. Amongst all the duck boots and puffer vest street styles, subculture fashion is a rarity, treasure and my personal preference. Admittedly I was expecting to shop housewares (which has since shrunk in size) but was easily swayed into the garment collections DT had to offer. Their team shared promotional events for certain garments but my purchase was ultimately a pair of black trousers with overlay panel resembling a skirt —reminiscent of McQueen and/or Yohji pieces. Androgynous vibes for sure. Staff is friendly, organic and inviting. If you’re interested in elevated, unique styles and supporting small, local businesses— stop by December Thieves. Dark gem of Boston.

Stumbled across this store on Halloween — absolutely magical 🕸️🪲🎃 December Thieves is such a gem! So many unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. I left with a beautiful clear quartz necklace! I’ll definitely be back — thank you!

I love this store. As far as I know it’s the only place in the Boston area where you can get amazing indie designer clothing that is really original, & hand made from all around the world. They cater to a darker aesthetic (lots of blacks!), but have a minimal enough style that almost anyone could shop there and find something. Perfect for unique, understated, and oversized investment pieces but they also have awesome sales to take advantage of. The people who work there are really cool, nice and helpful.

Best shop on Charles Street!! Great staff, friendly, helpful, not pushy! Great unique styles, accessories and some house deco! I bought a fun oversized, worn-in look, black sweater! Can’t wait for fall!! It was worth the price! I’ll have it forever! They also have great gift wrapping!

Eeeek! I discovered ‘December Thieves’ the day before Christmas in 2024. And what a holiday present. This funky, upscale shop on Charles Street in Boston is decked out with every thing from clothes + jewelry to artsy home decor. (I happened to find a new line of Bakelite type jewelry I was enchanted with.) It’s a chic, unique + friendly place full of treasures AND they’re online as well. (I just placed an order + it arrived just over 24 hours later, packaged beautifully with a wee bag of jelly beans on top!) SO…just GO! You’ll be delighted you made them a shopping priority.

Yelp
I come to Boston for business every 6 months and I found December Thieves on one of these trips I thought this place would be a staple visit every time I'm back in town. I've been there 3x and spent $250-350 each time. And I'd probably keep going back if not for what happened. I lost a necklace I bought there. During my next trip I visited to see if they had anything similar or at the very least would give me the artists name to contact. They had a ring- not really what I wanted but similar enough so I bought it. When I got home I sent December Thieves an email asking for the artists name. They replied "we'll get more of her stuff in later and we'll send you photos!" I said "ok great but what is the artists name" They did give the name but made a point of saying she has no online store and does not sell direct. They were trying to persuade me from contacting her and obviously trying to keep me buying through them. I did contact the seller and turns out she would love to sell direct and love to make custom pieces. I was really turned off by DT trying to control the purchasing to this degree. These boutique stores that carry so many different artists should not fear customers buying direct. That's the evolution. December Thieves should promote artists directly. Eventually finding an artist I like enough to buy direct doesn't mean I'd stop going to DT to discover new artists and goods.

Yelp
This place is GORGEOUS. I think what I love most is that everything is timeless, yet trendy enough to know that you're going to be the envy of all. Sister store to December Thieves, this shop stands out with the higher end boutique pieces and more streamlined curation of product. The manager Jemesii and owner Lana are more like hosts, welcoming you into their sanctuary that you can purchase from. It's not intimidating whatsoever, despite the almost art gallery quality. The prices are definitely on the upper end of boutique, but everything is high quality artisanally made, so it is worth everything and more. If you're looking for unique, beautifully curated pieces for your life, this shop has it-- it's more than just clothes and accessories and homegoods. It absolutely is a fantastic lifestyle store that seamlessly combines timeless with current trends. If I had a million dollars, I'd buy everything there. Or hire them as personal lifestyle coaches. Instead, I will content myself with browsing and indulging in their fabulously curated stock.

Yelp
Expect the unexpected in this little boutique. Doing some weekend window shopping, we almost strolled right by - with a baby & stroller in tow and this place having a rather high-end look - but I couldn't resist when I spotted some funky oversized ceramic hearts on the wall...so we wandered in. The manager was so warm and welcoming, and even befriended our little one. They have intriguing pieces - jewelry with character, home decor items that are great for gifting or adding authenticity to a collection, and even apparel. If you enjoy natural curiosities you'll find so many items to covet here. There was not a thing in the store I didn't love! We purchased a beautiful pendant and chain for $160 - pricey, but worth it for the unique quality. I can't wait to stop back in and see what's new!

Yelp
I have been shopping with December Thieves for a while now - from the South End to the Charles Street locations. It's always an amazing and unique experience, but I feel super compelled to leave a review now. Because of COVID and my pregnancy, I am reticent to set foot in shops. DT offers private shopping appointments, which is as luxe as they sound. I took them up on one and had one today with Alyssa, a magical mysterious intelligent behind the scenes woman with a keen eye for fashion and advice. A San Diego transplant, her style (truly too good to be defined, but I would say minimalist with edge and femininity all in one) matched mine perfect. She's also on the shorter side like me - and we got along like a house on fire. She chose a couple of pieces for me based on the selections I requested for the session and I bought 90% of them. It was so on point and the sizing was impeccable. I forgot how to feel good after shopping and this completely rejuvenated me. Also, if you have the chance to meet Alyssa, her engagement ring completely knocked my socks off. So gorgeous. I am not a great photographer, but I included some pics.

Yelp
December Thieves. An unusual name, no? It comes from a poem by a 13th century poet, Rumi, and refers to "thieves" who stole December in order to bring about spring and rejuvenated life. The owner, Lana, believes that the name is the blueprint of the store - continuous evolution and rediscovery. And what a store. Lana has an unerring eye for discovering new and/or emerging designers. Although small, it is full of edgy clothing, jewelry, accessories, home decor and gift items. In addition to its ever changing and unique inventory of products, I couldn't say enough about Lana and her staff (especially Jem and Emma whom I have had the most dealings with). They each have a keen eye, quickly understood my taste and now reach out to me when they think a piece would be suitable for me. I really can't say enough positive about my experience with December Thieves. There are so few stores like this and I encourage you to support the store and its staff. This is specially the case now where the pandemic is placing so much stress on independently owned stores.

Yelp
During these crazy times its so lovely to meet new kind people. My first experience with December Thieves was with such amazing service and follow up. I don't live in Boston so have never been to this shop but plan on visiting and shopping there when traveling opens up and I am in the Boston area. Great product selection and a wonderful team.

Yelp
DT has become my go-to shopping destination. I know walking in that I will find some amazing and unique pieces that nobody else will be wearing. Lana does an amazing job picking out each piece from around the world and I am so grateful to have access to this level of fashion right here in Boston. The staff are so personable and so good at what they do. Not only are they pros at styling, but they are great babysitters too!! I am always so comfortable bringing my baby in to shop with me. Jemesii and Emma even hold him for me while I try on!! Super kid friendly. I can't say enough about this boutique. I can't wait to see what they get in next!

Yelp
I bought a beautiful pair of earrings that were featured in the Sunday Boston Globe. I ordered them that same night and, amazingly, they were delivered north of Boston on Tuesday. What fantastic service!

Yelp
Wonderful and unique products coupled with great customer service. Definitely one of our faves on Beacon.

Yelp
I rarely shop, but an outfit in the window of December Thieves caught my eye when I was passing by. I reached out by email and Jemesii responded immediately and sent photos and ended up facilitating a totally online purchase. It was easy and I loved visiting the boutique for the first time when I came in to try it on and pick it up. Jemesii's assistance throughout was amazing -- I can't wait to drop in again sometime. I get lots of compliments on the blouse I bought; people literally stop me on the street to ask where it is from. Thanks!

Yelp
This review is for the RTW portion of the business, which is located at 51 Charles Street. If you are curious about the jewelry/home line, check out my other review. I had come in a couple times to peruse the selection. First impressions - a unique fashion perspective and a much needed sprinkle of sass in the otherwise staid Boston fashion scene. Think - edgy girly. Oxymoronic? Yes but it makes sense when you walk in the store. The company stocks items from up and coming designers across the world - I had never heard of any of the brands that the company stocked until shopping here. The manager can come across as unfriendly at first but she's actually quite friendly and helpful and warmed up to me toward the end of my visit. I had purchased a couple dresses online that didn't work for me and came in to exchange them (note for those living in Boston, they only accept exchanges on online purchases so don't be surprised - make sure to fully understand their return policy before purchasing!) and both the manager and the other sales associate helped me find items that worked better for me. We ended up chatting for a while about the fashion scene in Boston and their upcoming collections and events. My advice for anyone coming in is to take a look at the online selection before shopping in store. This aesthetic is not for everyone but if it speaks to you, I guarantee you will walk out with some treasures. I've found that being on their mailing list is helpful since they conduct flash sales occasionally.

Yelp
I love this place. I always want to buy everything, even though I don't need anything. If you need a gift for someone who is way cooler than yourself, this is the place to go! December Thieves is a tiny shop, but they carry a wide selection of merchandise. Tiny little kitchen implements, adorable honeys, gorgeous bags of every shape and size, and a selection of one-of-a-kind jewelry to die for. The sales people are super nice and knowledgeable (Jem is my favorite!). I was sort of intimidated to try on the jewelry, since I didn't have a budget to buy that day, but the staff is really encouraging and nice and doesn't make you feel guilty for not buying anything (yet). It's a little pricey, so it's for a "treat yo self" day-- but that being said, I feel like the prices are totally fair for the unique handmade items they carry. I love it all!

Yelp
wonderful stuff from scents, to candles, to leather goods, jewelry, home goods and other great stuff. Not cheap by any means, but quality items and things you won't easily fine other places. It's a place to shop for someone who has an eye for quality and design.

Yelp
Great online ordering experience...I did a virtual chat to get a clearer idea on fit and sizing for a dress I was looking at. The store rep was very responsive and thoughtful in providing advice on the dress, and ordering/payment was straightforward (gift card/credit card combination). The dress arrived in super quick time and is exactly as I hoped! I have loved shopping in this store, in person, in the past and although online shopping doesn't provide the same sensory experience, it was exciting to receive a neat black package on my doorstep!

Yelp
I cannot say enough about this store! The selection is amazing and the staff are so accommodating and professional. If you want something unique, artsy and edgy, this is your store. Check them out...you will. It be disappointed.

Yelp
Wow. What can I say?I have bought several pieces of jewelry and pairs of shoes from December Thieves and they continue to blow my mind! Most recently an incredible brass lock necklace. The craftsman ship is impeccable across the board and their staff are incredibly knowledgeable about the designers and eager to help. Cannot recommend this boutique highly enough. Thank you December Thieves!

Bil Z.

Yelp
The worst! They are aptly named because they are thieves. I will never go back. I bought something which broke as soon as I took it out of box. Instead of doing the decent thing, they said nothing they could do. Sometimes all it takes is a little compromise to make someone feel good but being stuck to their rules is poor business.

Yelp
After being cooped up for the past month, I decided to do a little online shopping and of course went to December Thieves' website. It's my favorite boutique in Boston. I discovered it a number of years ago when they were located on Harrison Ave and immediately became a fan. Now when I'm on Charlies Street, I make a beeline for December Thieves. I found several pieces of jewelry online that I purchased last Saturday and they arrived today. They are absolutely gorgeous. I'm thrilled and even though I'll be working from home for the foreseeable future, there's no reason not to look good. Thank you December Thieves for making my work-from-home look a lot nicer. Highly recommend a visit to their store and their website.

Lauren D.

Yelp
I went to the Charles Street location this weekend for the first time. I'd never seen it before and was really excited to have found it! It's over my price range, but some of the stuff there was so cool I'll have to save up (I'm in art school and really appreciated some of the strange sculpting and platter things). If the owner reads these, there was also a woman working at that location who was great. I didn't get her name, but she was a black woman with a bun working Sunday later-afternoon. She was quiet (not pushy or weirdly forcing conversations, which I get a lot in small stores) but really friendly and easy to talk to when I had questions.

Yelp
Can I start off by saying I love the Heist + December Thieves store names? Perfect pairing. This is the sister store of December Thieves, and I stopped by initially because I was on the hunt for Fornasetti candles in Boston (to my knowledge, they might even be the only location that has them!!!). The staff is super friendly, gorgeous selection, and very well curated. I love the edgier, darker themes of this shop compared to the preppier selection you mostly see in Beacon Hill. Great for browsing, and if you're in it to treat yourself too!

Yelp
While I found December Thieves to be a charming and well designed store full of wonderful things I was really disappointed at my first experience there this past weekend. I was in the store with my sisters admiring everything - In particular, I was looking at a brass ladle and when I went to place it back on the table, it swiveled around and knocked over this small ceramic hand. The hand fell on the floor and one of the fingers broke off. I immediately picked it up and apologized profusely but it was awkward and dead silent in the store. No one came over to see the product or to make me feel okay about it so after a long pause, I offered to pay for it. I didn't think that the store would take me up on my offer (as stores usually write this off as an accident) but the woman at the front desk said that would be best. She only made me pay for 70% but it was still a small ceramic hand and that cost me $35 (down from $50). I understand that this is a small business that can't necessarily afford to have products break but this wasn't even the product I was interested in, it was on the edge of a tiny table (shared by the big ladle) and the fact that the two women working that day made me feel so awkward and embarrassed in front of my sisters was a real bummer.

Yelp
I just noticed the store owner's response to my two star rating of her store. Lana needs to be more careful with her facts: It's news to me that she told me the manufacturer was willing to provide me with a new bracelet at wholesale cost ! In addition, it is true that I was interested in a similar, but slightly more expensive bracelet in her shop. What she "forgot" to mention was that I offered to pay the (small) difference between the original cost of the broken one and the new one. A little more honesty and respect for your customers please Lana !
