Grilling it: 8 of the best barbecue restaurants in Singapore - SilverKris

"A casual, no-frills Texas-style barbecue spot at Robertson Quay known for low-and-slow smoking—meats are rubbed with a secret spice blend and cooked up to 16 hours in a custom wood-fired smoker imported from Texas—yielding tender pulled pork, spicy lamb sausage, smoked chicken and chopped Wagyu brisket. The menu also caters to vegetarians with crispy buffalo cauliflower and offers Southern sides like mac and cheese, potato salad and must-order cornbread, with banana pudding or apple cobbler for dessert." - Rachel Eva Lim

The food was okay but nothing to write home about. We (2 pax) had the feast for two, which certainly was sufficiently filling with 3 choices of meats (each about ~120-150g according to our server) with 3 sides to go with. We had the wagyu brisket, pork belly burnt ends and pork spare ribs for the meats. The brisket had flavourful and savoury fats on some parts but was unfortunately rather dry. When you ate a piece without fat in it the flavour was lacking and quite underwhelming. Also no smoke ring on the brisket as well and lacked any depth of flavour. This was disappointing as brisket is something everyone looks forward to in Texan barbecue meats. The burnt ends were better, with nice caramelisation and sweetness and so were the ribs, albeit they were quite peppery and highly savoury, so might not be for you if you don't like your food on the salty side. The sides were good, we got the potato salad, mac and cheese, and cornbread. All of which were pretty tasty and satisfying especially the mac which had real cheese instead of Kraft haha. Potato salad was good as well so we enjoyed those. Overall, portion sizes were good, and we were pretty full. For drinks, you can give the Arnold Palmer (lemonade + iced tea) a miss, it was just watered down iced tea with a hint of lemon. Ultimately, this was quite a pricey meal ~$60/pax and for that the meal left much to be desired, would have at least expected a nice juicy slab of brisket but got a dry one with no smoke ring whatsoever. Had high expectations but left disappointed, hopefully if you do come you get better meats!

Google
I ordered a set for one, and had the wagyu brisket (+$5 topup), pulled pork, cornbread and mac and cheese. Oddly for a place that is proudly a Texas BBQ, I was told that the Old Fashioned was not available, and so were the burnt ends. And it was only 6:30PM on a Friday. the pulled pork was hot and well-seasoned. The mac and cheese, similarly. Unfortunately, the brisket that I topped up for was bland and cold, not warm at all. It had a good texture but seems to be under-seasoned. The cornbread was also cold and not really remarkable. It seems that all the reviews that noted cold food had some truth to it. At the very least, the portions were filling. But it is difficult to think about a second visit when food temperature seems to be inconsistent across dishes. service was good, can't fault the staff at all.

Google
The quality of the BBQ is very poor. Even the wagyu beef was tasted like boiled instead of BBQ, and it’s surprising that they could even make pork ribs dry. The beef brisket wasn’t even a whole cut—it was falling apart into loose pieces. I eat BBQ very often in US, so I really don’t understand how a place with this level of quality can have a 4-star rating on Google.

Google
Loved the smoked chicken and wagyu brisket (could have been more fatty but still good). The sides were also a strike, particularly liked mac&cheese. The waiter was quite helpful as well

Google
I liked BBQ plate very much. I was alone and ordered that one for one person. But I need to say that there is so much good and delicious meat (plus sides) that I barely feel hungry till the next day. Talking about the place itself, one of the minuses that can be found is the place. It is literally on the walkway, and people pass through periodically However, I liked the food and will return here. Recommend

Google
Let’s get a “haw-yeah” for BBQ in Singapore! Food was good (the sides are big enough to share by the way) service a little slow, atmosphere casual with country music in the background. Pretty solid performance! Thank you!

Google
First time trying American bbq - got the meal for 2 and chose brisket (top up $8), spare ribs & pulled pork; sides we chose kale salad, cornbread & dirty rice. Portion size looked average but it was A LOT of food for 2 girlies, we barely finished the meat (usually can eat a decent amount of food). Will recommend brisket and spare ribs, dirty rice!

Google
The sharing platter for two was quite a feast, so do prepare your appetites before going! Loved the guac, which was a nice refreshing touch to the heavier meats. The burnt ends were decadent, but I’ve had better brisket elsewhere. The chicken was alright too, a little on the dry side.

Yelp
I'm an American. I have a big, expensive smoker, which I use to make perfect ribs. It's easy. I live in an area where there are excellent barbecue joints, and I don't mean New York. I'm in the South, where barbecue was developed. My wife and I went to Decker. It cost us over $100. Here in the US, we can eat well for $40. We were served tiny portions of bad side dishes. The meat was lukewarm. The ribs tasted like they had been simmered. The "rub" tasted like Montreal steak seasoning. The place was about 1/3 full. The macaroni and cheese had thin, gritty sauce on it. The cornbread was not real cornbread. I make cornbread myself. My ancestors made it. I've been to numerous American restaurants that make it. Decker makes something that looks like cornbread but tastes like something else. The manager or owner or whatever is a fat Australian. He called me a racist for criticizing his bad food. Nutjob. I took my wife to a BBQ in Singapore because she was not in the US yet, and I wanted her to have a taste of our culture. She hated Decker, and we went to another restaurant the same night. Here in the US, she is crazy for my barbecue as well as the local barbecue restaurants. She still talks about how bad Decker was.

Yelp
Very noisy in this restaurant, everyone wanted BBQ tonight. The service was pretty good. The food was great, the old fashioned, I didn't care for.

Yelp
Was excited to try American bbq while visiting here. The food did not disappoint. Ordered the feast for 2. 3 meats and 3 sides. Pulled pork, burnt ends and brisket were all amazing!! Mac n cheese was delicious, beans and corn bread were just ok. Great variety of beers include Pabst Blue Ribbon. Only complaint was the service. Very slow yet there were lots of servers standing around. They would never approach us we had to keep trying to get their attention.

Yelp
Met up with some local friends for a quick bite to eat. I have walked past this place several times. It always smelled good!! The menu is nice and simple. The seating can be a challenge for large parties. I have to say not being a BBQ fanatic that I enjoyed my Chicken BBQ sandwich. The ingredients are fresh and the meat was tender. The BBQ sauce was abundant and you can smother your food to your liking. The brisket and ribs looked tasty on my friends plate. I also tried the potato salad. All in all the meal was full of flavor and hit the spot. Curbed my hanger. Lol The location of the restaurant is in the Robertson Quay complex. And so many places to eat, but this place stands out as one of the best BBQ places in Singapore for the price!

Yelp
3.5 actually, but rounded off out of kindness and their good service. Came at 9pm and all ribs and burnt ends were sold out. So I got the $60 platter with brisket, pulled pork and links, with sides of mac and cheese, cornbread and brisket beans. Not the best Texan bbq I've had, but in Singapore, this might be the best there is, and I suppose that needs to suffice. The beans were a bit too sweet and not mellow savory enough for my taste, but the chunk of brisket inside made for a pleasant surprise. The mac and cheese was pretty good. Enjoyed it thoroughly. The cornbread did not come out as I expected. It was definitely not southern style cornbread. But it did the job of soaking the juices, so I give it so merit. The brisket is flavorful, moist and fork tender. So tender that if you try to lift it up with just your fork, it might slip off or fall apart before it reaches your plate. Which is what happened to me. It's a good thing. The pulled pork was a bit too sweet and too wet. The rub isn't savory and spicy enough.. perhaps it's tweaked to suit local palettes? but I thought you serve authentic Tex bbq? hmm....... oh also, I get that they're trying to avoid people ever calling out their meats as dry, but this was a bit too wet.. on the upside, there's more juices to wipe the cornbread with. The links were the most meh. The beef links were good, but the lamb and pork were meh. The letdown was the pork belly burnt ends for $12 / 100 grams. I know what burnt ends are supposed to look like... this did not look like that. On its own, as its own dish, ok fine it's meat, well smoked and bbq'd. But it was just not what I was expecting. They sell American beer here, like Pabst Blue Ribbon and Blue Moon. So for those who want to try those.. you can...

Yelp
Absolutely fabulous DINO-MITE ribs!! Were craving for some red meat and this place sure hit the spot. Cosy little corner and fortunately the manager Mie did take time to explain us about their special. As the saying goes..... Ï'd be baaaK!!

Yelp
Barbecue means different things to different people around the world and even within the US the answer as to which barbecue is best really can depend on where you ask the question. Texas? Kansas City? Memphis? Carolina? All would claim their barbecue is best. Of course none of this matters when you live in Singapore and develop a craving for some, any good US barbecue joints. Yes, there are a few but this latest place may claim to be the best yet. It really is that good. We went looking for it having read a posting on another website talking about Decker Barbecue which had only just opened behind Boomerang at Robertson Quay. We arrived to the wondrous sight of healthy portions of delicious barbecue meat being served to patrons in a simple open air restaurant. The menu is simple as you can see from the photo. We ordered a couple of Brewdog beers (the only non Non-American beer that they stick) and strode to the counter to order. And then heartbreak as the staff started to put Sold Out signs on the Brisket. Denial! Disappointed but not broken we ordered turkey with pulled pork and chopped beef with the two side dishes of Brisket Beans and Potato Salad. Service was fast and very friendly (in truth a rarity in Singapore). However good as the service was, it was the quality of the food that was the star here. It was simply fantastic. The sliced turkey was very tender and the right side of moist. The chopped beef had some spice with great flavour and the pulled pork was the first one that we finished, so that should speak for itself. The brisket beans were great with enough brisket in to give us a hint of what we were missing, with the potato salad trailing behind a little in the flavor stakes. From talking to Elliott and Min, the partners of the restaurant this place is clearly a labour of love. As their first week in business at the location finished, more sold out signs went up. Disappointing for them and the customers who came along only to be denied. For sure they will make sure this doesn't happen again and for sure we will be back to try the brisket the next time. For those craving some fantastic Barbecue, don't miss Decker.

Yelp
Brisket sandwich was just ok. Room temperature food. Don't look at the mac and cheese on the menu above the bar. It doesn't let you know they put sauce on it (ruined the mac and cheese altogether). My husband ordered the smoked old fashion, it was tequila () $20 drink. I would not visit again. Best thing I ate here was the "miniature" fries.

Yelp
I guess this is as good as it gets in Singapore. This appears to be (east) Texas style barbecue, and I see the smokers parked at the back, ready to go. The brisket and ribs are pretty good, however the sides are generally a hit and miss. Beef brisket is cooked over wood and served dry with sauce on the side. I'm a little partial to Kansas and Memphis style barbecue (dry rub), but I definitely end up here when I have a craving for American barbecue. Please skip the other places like *cough* Morganfields cos this is definitely far more legit. The place is named after Elliot Decker, the chef/owner, who learned the ropes in Austin. 4-stars relative to what you can get in Singapore, 3-stars if compared to other places in the United States. Can't complain, otherwise you'd have to get on a 22 hour flight back to get your barbecue fix.

Yelp
Eaten here a dozen times. Best BBQ in Asia, as good a any in Austin (way better than Dickies all Over the state I'd Texas). Burnt Ends and brisket are heaven sent. Easy to get seated on a weekend evening usually. My favorite casual dining spot in Singapore.

Yelp
Probably the closest thing to Texas bbq in Singapore. But reviewers who deem it "authentic" are in desperate need of new tastebuds. Decker Barbecue is worth a visit. They take great pride in their work, and it shows through the well executed smoked meats. I particularly like that they use a variety of local wood (lychee last time I was there) to impart flavor. Having said that, I don't know if the food at this price point warrants multiple revisits. The experience brings you close to the familiarities of proper bbq, but nothing puts it over the top. You leave full, but not entirely satisfied. I've been here twice, and frankly wouldn't come back unless I had a rare hankering for Southern bbq. FOOD (order like this for 3 pax): - plate for 2 (brisket, pulled pork, pork ribs + beans, mac & cheese) // $76 - 100 grams of pork ribs // $9 - side of coleslaw // $6 SERVICE: - fast - knowledgable staff PRICE: - $30 / person (not including drinks) OVERALL: - best for groups - come earlier than later; do run out of meats - decent beer selection

Yelp
If you live in any part of the US where good BBQ is a way of life, and just need a break from Asian food, you've found a piece of home here. Meats are surprisingly good for Singapore. Tender and good smoky flavor. Sauce is good and sides do the trick (I've gone for the beans and cornbread every time... scratches the itch). Nice assortment of global beers in the cooler. Food come out fast. The marquee says " this food is dope." Yea, I'm down with that.

Yelp
Let me explain the three stars -- because based on food alone I'd give it a solid 4, if not 5.. but hoolllyyyy shit this place is expensive! I got three slices of brisket with sides of mac & cheese and cole slaw and an iced tea and it came to S$60... wtf. That's downright offensive y'all. If you're rollin' in cash, this place is legit, though. The brisket melted in my mouth. I didn't need any sauce with it, but the raw onions paired really nicely. I loved the mac & cheese made with some really sharp cheddar. I love coleslaw so I was bummed I didn't really care for theirs... maybe I'm just a fat ass that likes their coleslaw a bit more soupy like KFC's (I'll see myself out.) Sadly I won't come here again due to the price. Sad trombone.

Yelp
Let's start from the best part: the food is actually really tasty! Five start easily just for that. We had spare ribs and brisket sandwich and both were amazing... ...but. The service is horrible. Ok, I get the casual ambience, but why does everyone need to stand in line until their food is ready? It's just a broken system (and a recipe for long lines... I wanted 20 mins for three people ahead of me, all with large orders). Just take the order and let people go! And second, the prices are outrageous. $93 for two people (with two beers ...two total, not two each!) You are seating outside, by the back exit of Boomerang, not a place that could justify that prices! Drop the prices, and improve the service! Because I live next door, and really liked the food... :-)

Joseph G.

Yelp
Food is fantastic . Lots of attitude from front counter owner staff. IF THEY FEEL THAT YOU HAVE NOT ORDERED ENOUGH. Expect to spend at least $45 two or you will experience their negativity.
google avatar

Mark H.

Yelp
Okay so here goes. I'm giving 4 stars due to the staff and the effort! Not sure what I expected but being from the US and in particular Texas I know Texas bbq and sadly this is not it! The brisket is tender and that's a big plus but there's no flavor, no smoke ring and left me wondering what wood if any was put on the meat. The Mac and cheese was okay but leave the bbq sauce off. On the plus side they have an ample beer selection including a Texas standard "Shiner".
google avatar

T. L.

Yelp
$29 for a salad wrapped in aluminum foil and a dry brisket sandwich. I will not be going back. I'd rather order Burnt Ends sanger and a butter lettuce salad (in a reusable plastic container) for $30 on Uber Eats.
google avatar

Steve P.

Yelp
Buttery soft brisket and fantastic ribs. Love this place! Wish they had better beer on draft but their fridge selection of craft beers is decent.

Curtis A S.

Yelp
Pork was good, chicken seemed a little slimy indicating it was old or undercooked, Tea was ok, not real strong, kale salad was pretty good. Potatoe salad was good. 30 grams is way too much food but they push the portion. Had the ribs the other night and they were very good. Guess it depends on. The day and what cook you get smoking the goods!
google avatar

Lynn S.

Yelp
Fantastic pulled pork! The sauce was slightly spicy, perfect. Service was great.
google avatar

Brady S.

Yelp
Ribs were so good, my eyes rolled back in my head. The food isn't cheap, but the cost of producing the product is also very high. Cornbread was also darn good. Tip: get there early before the crowd shows up because they don't take reservations.
google avatar

Gonzalo R.

Yelp
A truly Texan joint in the middle of Singapore. Prices are on the higher end and options are very limited, however the brisket and pulled pork are rely good!
google avatar

Stacey C.

Yelp
This Texas girl gives Deckers 5 stars! Hands down best BBQ in Singapore. They even have your grandma's banana pudding.

Steve B.

Yelp
The Brisket was top notch. Tasted just like real Texas Brisket that I smoke myself with mesquite. I will eat here every time I am in SG.

Rob B.

Yelp
New pitmaster. This is nothing like Texas BBQ, avoid if you know what Texas BBQ should taste like and enjoy that taste.

Tom M.

Yelp
5 star barbecue in Singapore! The brisket is 100% authentic and, from an American's perspective, tastes like home. A must try for anyone who like real bbq!
