Deens Maju Nasi Kandar

WOW. What an incredible dining experience. The flavors here are STELLAR. Yes, it’s heavy and it’s oily, but you will love it. I did!! One of the best meals I had in Malaysia.

Great Nasi Kandar. Queue to get served. If it's raining, bring an umbrella and if you are allergic to the sun like a vampire, bring an umbrella. The queues can be long but don't be deterred. Didn't try the lamb shank goreng(fried) but will do it next time. The lamb curry is flavourful and just nice spicy. Fried chicken drumsticks a bit dry but tasty all the same. The taste of the food leans towards the sweeter side of neutral hence only 4* from me. Place is relatively clean and ample seating since they expanded to yet another shop house. For the ice cream people who melt in the heat, there are limited air conditioned dining spaces. Overall, a great place to experience Nasi Kandar in Penang.

Having dinner at Deens Maju felt like joining a Penang ritual — queue first, eat later. The line was crazy long, but with good company it didn’t feel like such a drag. Staff kept things moving and were friendly despite the chaos. When the plate landed, it looked like a masterpiece, drenched in kuah campur. Taste-wise though, it was more hype than punch — the curry felt a bit watered down and the flavours didn’t wow me. In Malaysia, queues don’t always equal greatness, but the vibe here still made it an experience worth having once.

Deen Maju never disappoints. There’s something special about the food here the flavours are beautifully balanced, that slight tartness mixed with spices hits perfectly every single time. You can really taste the care and consistency in every dish. One of those places where the food just speaks for itself. Absolutely love it and will always come back!

We had so much anticipation visiting this place in Penang, however we were sadly disappointed, I got the lamb shank the taste was ok but the lamb was swimming in oil and very chewy, my wife got the Nasi Kandar and she was not impressed at all by the food. However this may be not our flavour as many people coming and going. So might be a personal taste.

Be ready to queue to get in. But sometimes you can see customers go in without q-ing (got cable ah?). Food is great of course. For that kind of queue, better to stuff yourself full baru berbaloi 😬 tips: if you are bringing kids, let them wait in the car until it's almost your turn. Portable fan/cap can be useful while q-ing.

Crowded, but worth it. There was a 30 min+ line of locals on Sat afternoon, but it moved fast. Plenty of open spaces inside. I got the bhindi (steamed okra), cabbage and goat curry. Of course, an assortment of curries were ladled on top! The food tasted fresh and was finger-licking good. Highly recommended.
