Neighborhoods in Dallas-Fort Worth

"Without a doubt, Deep Ellum is currently home to the hottest scene in DFW. Bordering Downtown’s southeast side, this neighborhood was left for dead 10 years ago; however, over the last five years, Deep Ellum has blossomed. The food, microbrewery, and shopping have taken off, and the bar and live music scenes have turned this area into the youngest, hippest, liveliest spot in North Texas. Music ranges from small intimate jazz venues, like The Free Man, to the massive Bomb Factory featuring headline acts such as Bon Iver, Future, Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin, Ludacris, and more. If you’re looking for late-night food like pizza, tacos, or even doughnuts, this is your spot." - MATADOR_NETWORK

Yelp
Young, hip and vibrant, Deep Ellum has become the east downtown hub. Galleries, shops, even museum-quality brisket. Artistic brisket? Yes, no typo there. As it sits before you on that canvas of wax paper, so much Texas BBQ is a work of art. Burnt ends, please! As for the neighborhood, it's dense, which is fine. Most of the buildings only have smallish units though. There's not a single three-bedroom listed for rent on Zillow in the entire neighborhood and there's only one for sale. While I probably couldn't live here, it's obvious why it is appealing to the up and coming 20 and 30s singles' crowd.

Yelp
You can definitely tell the lame-asses from the reviews that use "hipster" over and over. This is a fun arts district, with lots of restaurants, bars, galleries, music venues, street art. It's very pleasant and walkable, with a lot of alfresco/outdoor patio dining. It could use a little help . . . there are several venues that are boarded up or shut down . . . but it's the most walkable section I've found in Dallas, and tons of dining and entertainment options in a small section. People complain about lack of parking, but honestly, I think there is too much commercial parking in the area. A bunch of paid parking lots, and annoyingly, these spots are home to a lot of the murals, so you're having to shoot around cars and signage. Someone compared this swath of town to New York City. As someone who spends over half my time in NYC, that's ridiculous. Not even close. But it's the closest thing to being artsy, accepting, and cool. So if you'd like to step outside of the way the rest of the country sees Texas . . . Deep Ellum is the way to go.

Yelp
Very fun neighborhood to walk around and explore. There are many amazing, beautiful, and colorful murals all along the buildings that will have you staring. Pretty dead during the day, but it really comes alive at night when all the bars start opening up. My guy and I spent hours here visiting a ton of different places. It's a nice distance from a lot of other areas as well like downtown or the farmers market.

Yelp
This area is eclectic and has an eccentric style with a lot going on. This is my second time in Deep Ellum and they have built up since I was last here 7 years ago. It's so much to see and do here. A plethora of places to eat, drink, shop, music venues and entertainment for all. It's always a fun time in this area.

Yelp
Amazing art every way you turn and great restaurants. Worth a stop if you're in Dallas.

Yelp
Awesome place to explore and check out the amazing artists and murals. There has got to be around 100! When you are walking, make sure you turn around and look at the buildings behind you! Right now is the 150th year, and events are happening! Across from Serious Pizza is a street that will have local artists and vendors showcasing their talents around noon. There are so many great spots for food and drinks after your walk around!

Yelp
Paint the town! This is an absolute must-go to if you're in Dallas. If you're looking for street art, this is the spot. You can walk up and down and through all the alleys to see so many walking exhibits. The whole town gives off a Miami art district vibes. The artists are all so skilled at what they do. Painting on a large scale is no easy task. The colors are vibrant and the art alone is what adds a pop of color to this part of town. I actually went to bishop art district and I was not as impressed.

Yelp
This area just east of Downtown Dallas has a long and storied history. Reaching back into the 1930s it rivaled Chicago for a few years before fading away. Blues Legends such as Robert Johnson and Blind Lemmon Jefferson were mainstays. It's had ups and downs and false starts for decades with mostly nite clubs and restaurants. Recently after a long dry spell an investor bought up blocks of the area and is now developing substantial multiuser projects that will at last stabilize the area. The addition of a mass transit stop has helped as well as several new restaurants. Definitely a go if you're visiting from outside Big D

Yelp
Such a vibrant and colorful neighborhood. Deep Ellum is an artistic soul of this town. There are hip restaurants, music venues, art installations and murals everywhere you look. It is an absolute must to understand how this city breathes.

Yelp
If you don't mind hippie progressive dingy lifestyle, then you might like this place . It's edgy. Cops everywhere to keep things in check. Not for those who prefer a more upscale environment which is most of Dallas. Stay alert down here at night , it can get rowdy but it's a lot of varied fun. There is music , food and tons of interesting folks. Parking is ridiculous but worth it.

Yelp
Great neighborhood, lots to do and see. Many options for food, drinks and music. Twilight was so amazing.

Yelp
Deep Ellum is such a fun place to be! Reminds me of Little Five back in Atlanta and it's a place of culture, food, nightlife and more. I come here whenever I want to do some thrifting (they have some great resell stores here, as well as Patagonia) and they also have some great restaurants and bars! You definitely have to check out Pecan Lodge and Terry Black's -- some of the best barbeque in Dallas. You can walk around this area (and you will want to as parking is typically not free) but it's a great place to visit on evenings and weekends if you want to have some fun. Definitely not the safest area but just be smart and know what you're doing and you won't have an issue. If you're visiting Dallas, Deep Ellum is a must!

Matthew T.

Yelp
Went during daytime so there wasn't much to do or see. Roads were pretty bad due to construction and/or repaving. Could be a different setting at night as it looked capable because of kind of establishments there. Started to walk, but ended up deciding not to because of sparseness of shops and how spread out area was.

Yelp
DEEP ELLUM NEIGHBORHOOD is a must- visit neighborhood in Dallas. You should take the time to park your truck and walk around this eclectic, hipster neighborhood so you can fully appreciate the murals and various street arts. It's full if shops, BBQ, breweries, desserts, coffee and ice cream places.

Yelp
Deep Ellum is a popular neighborhood in Dallas, TX that came highly recommended by many of the locals as a place to have a good time. This place has a bit of everything whether you like to eat and drink or simply enjoy their art and culture. The community is absolutely resilient and united. During the Covid pandemic, they were able to adapt their businesses to build more outdoor spaces to safely eat and hang out. This allowed the locals to continue supporting the small businesses. By day, you can enjoy foods, drinks and desserts. They have art all over their buildings so the area is fun just to walk around in. There are also cute specialty boutiques to check out. If you are visiting, I highly recommend Pecan Lodge. Pecan Lodge is one of Dallas' top rated barbecue spot with awards from local publications as well as top ratings on travel advisor, yelp, zagat and more. By night, you can experience local live music, performances, art shows. There is something happening every night. Better yet, they have plenty of adapted rooftop bars. You can drink and overlook the poppin' crowd below. This came highly recommended by the locals, but if I am being completely honest my friend and I did not feel too safe being in Deep Ellum at night. Dark alleys and angry people yelling does not make for safe travels. We preferred the nightlife in the Uptown area where it was classier and most importantly much much safer. Definitely one of the must-visit areas while in town, but I highly recommend going during the day time when it is less sketch.

Yelp
If someone's being too pushy, tell 'em And don't move to South Bronx or Pelham But when in Dallas, see It's a fallacy To say you should not see Deep Ellum. Still one of the best party neighbourhoods in Dallas. It's pretty awesome here and exciting and enjoyable and it's hard not to love an area with the flavour of Deep Ellum. With some of the best nightlife in the state of Texas - although perhaps not as sexy as Houston's Washington Corridor, and definitely not as wild as Austin by any stretch of the imagination. There is some good Boba here in the form of Bobaddiction and some wonderful food in the form of Jimmy's Deli nearby. Some of the best sandwiches in the whole of the South really, at Jimmy's. So all in all I would say that it is one of the destinations in Dallas and even though Dallas is in some ways an obnoxiously Republican City with a lot of severe issues - especially in the suburbs - it also has a lot to offer, and Deep Ellum is one of the shining stars of what it has to offer, and offers balance to a right wing region. I've been told I have a pretty Deep Ellum. Mainly by guys that hang out in Deep Ellum. Hmm. That's apparently why boys like me. And there are plenty of boys who like me, hi. I fixed this review because Kristie told me it's not actually the gaybourhoood (British spelling). I knew this (subconsciously) because a gay guy (hi Bill) invited me back to his house after my first Dallas concert (it was nothing sexual, not on my part anyway), and so I stayed over with him, but first he took me to some bars in the "Gaybourhood" and I remember it being a little west of Downtown - not directly East of downtown, like Deep Ellum is. But I have definitely been hit on by boys (less so girls) when in Deep Ellum so it must just be me then. #Whydontgirlslikeme Easily the coolest trendiest hipster neighbourhood of Dallas, where everything is fairly expensive, but there's a lot of really great spots hidden amongst the crap. It's been the go-to place for nightlife for a long time, although there are other sexy nightlife areas too, but this is the main one. This is also NOT one of the prominent gay neighbourhoods in the south, even though I've always thought that it was. If you want nightlife then this is where you come. Wander around here on any given weekend night and you will see lots of sexy people. Not to be confused with UT Austin, which has a particularly Deep Alum, as in, lots of them, everywhere in Texas. Or Dartmouth, which has particularly Deep Alum, as in, they're very smart and cerebral. Hi Barbie. The Deep Ellum neighbourhood is really wonderful. It's eclectic and hipster and colourful, and it represents the heart of Dallas culture. At least the richer side of Dallas culture anyway. They have a wonderful Bubble Tea dessert place and it's a nice place to hang out in the day, and full of good looking people who dress very sexy, at night. Meerut is good for kebab and curry when in Dallas, too, as well as many other hidden food treats. And how do I know about all these places? Ellum-entary, my dear Watson.

Yelp
Main Street is pretty nice for walking. Lots of little stores and restaurants. Pecan Lodge and Terry Black's for good BBQ; Rocket Fizz, Emporium Pies, and Insomnia cookies for sweets; Select Start Arcade for games; Jade and Clover, and Archer Paper Crafts for art supplies, and Merit Coffee for coffee are all recommended stops! Will probably add to this list but you can't go wrong window shopping and finding your flavor! Parking is all metered or paid parking lots, but it's usually worth it if you are gonna be here for a while. You can drive and park off Elm st since Main st occasionally gets traffic. There are also tours that go through Deep Ellum if you don't want to walk.

Yelp
Eccentric, Electrifying, Energetic. Narrow broken sidewalks. Garish graffiti walls. Talented tattoo artists. Underground music venues. Beguiling street scene. Perplexing tasty bites. Do stay safe. CHEERS!

Yelp
I must say that I liked Deep Ellum more 20-25 years ago when it was funkier, more clearly Dallas' ode to counter-culture, and hippy-ish a la Berkeley. It used to be mainly completely unique stores and a high per capita of tattoo parlors. Tons of interesting restaurants, bars, and cafes. I remember going to bars and listening to up and coming blues guitar players who would play all night if you would let them.. There is still some of that, but it is being crowded out. Today, the neighborhood is being transformed by big capital into condos and other urban development for tourists and visitors. Parking, which never was easy, is harder. The funkiness is way down, replaced by representations of corporate interests. What they call "development." There are just a few places that I go to in Deep Ellum these days, and even then it is not often. IMO Dallas is losing one of its gems, one of the few places that had soul and funk. Deep Ellum is changing, and not for the better.

Yelp
Drove out here on a whim and instantly regretted not having planned the trip better. I was overwhelmed and in awe by the culture, history, and art. Pressed for time in wanting to beat rush hour traffic back to Fort Worth, I wanted so desperately to spend the rest of the day out here. That'll have to be for another day. I enjoyed the simplicity of the leisurely walk through the neighborhood. The highlight of the trip was eating lunch at Twisted Root Burgers. Yours truly is definitely coming back out here again when I have more time to walk around. Don't miss out on this incredible cultural experience.

Yelp
Beautiful murals... all of them are very vibrant.... Extremely talented artists...definitely should check them out

Yelp
On a beautiful, mild, sunny autumn weekend afternoon, we wanted to explore outdoors. So it was off to historic Deep Ellum, a neighborhood I'd never been to but heard much about. What a vibrant place! There is artwork everywhere, in parking lots, by garbage dumpsters, in back alleys, on main thoroughfares... you name it, it has a piece of art on it. I'm a huge fan of art in public spaces, so I was in heaven. So much to see! Many small shops to browse in, too. My favorite was a plant shop called Jade & Clover. And if you start to flag and need sustenance, there are many options for eating and drinking. Lots of folks were also out enjoying this fine day, so all metered parking spots were full. Paid parking lots were pretty much at capacity as well, but we managed to slot in when another car left.

Yelp
I guess this would be considered the eclectic, artsy part of Dallas? A good four or five city blocks where there is a variety of boutiques, restaurants, coffee shops, and other eateries. Lots to see and do, good people watching, and really nice selection of places to grab a bite. Good afternoon spent walking around!
google avatar

Yelp
I like all kinds of arts, classic, modern, contemporary, surreal, cubism, and murals. In particular, I like murals that are painted on gentrified, uneven, forgotten walls. And those are easily washed away and sometimes it's been called criminal. However, murals represent pains that people always confront with in our daily lives. I used to visit Art District in LA frequently when I lived in LA to see something new on walls. Compare to Art District in LA, this Historic Deep Ellum murals also as good as it gets, their own pains, and messages they want to convey to the world depicted clearly: bold and naked. Many people around the world come and take photos to be sympathy and to keep them in their minds. I also visited with my friend from out of States, to let him taste the freshly caught live fish that smell fresh and moving widely in the whole sale barns ground. It was fantastic experiences, and l am looking forward to see more.

Yelp
We love love love deep ellum! We come here almost every week! There's a ton of different shops to browse through, restaurants and eateries to much through, and people to watch! It spans roughly three blocks but really everything is down the Main Street. Parking can be super chaotic sometimes but if you're willing to walk, shouldn't be too difficult o find street parking without paying an arm and a leg.

Yelp
Along with the Dallas Uptown, Deep Ellum is one of the most relaxing & coolest places in Big D that you'll ever find. The random bars, coffee joints, voluptuous eye candy & breathtaking views of downtown Dallas from Gaston Avenue or Texas Street will have you doing a double take in thinking "I'm not on San Jacinto in Austin anymore, am I, Toto?" Real estate is at a premium here, yet apartment living is surprisingly affordable. Yes, Deep Ellum isn't the Design district, Cedars, Knox Henderson, or Victory Park, yet you can reach any of those places within 10-13 minutes if you drive efficiently enough. Deep Ellum. Enjoy yourself!

Yelp
Spent several hours here exploring local shops and restaurants and checking out the murals with my son! I'm a sucker for a good street mural and this place is not only overflowing with them, but they are bright, bold, vibrant pieces of art! Every building every place you can fit one, you're sure to find a beautiful piece of art here! So much talent! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Ahh!!! ... There's just something about Deep Ellum, Dallas! The land where the hipster, cigarette smokin' "cool kids" roam and fabulous wall murals are abundant.--Just my kinda' place! There's so much to see and do here. Cute shops, great FOOD, and the best art in Dallas if you ask me! Deep Ellum, I love you!

Yelp
This is a fun neighborhood, Exclamation Point! Be it the bars, the restaurants, the people watching, the music act watching, My last trip was to grab a donut from my favorite late night donut shop on the way home. I got lucky and snagged a spot right outside the door. Deep Ellum is not a boring area and neither is this donut shop or their works of art. Observe the people, have fun and interact! My only reason for less than 5 stars is parking. It can be hit and miss. I've driven around for quite a while in the past and felt I was just overly lucky this trip.

Yelp
I lived in Deep Ellington neighborhood back in 2008-2009 and it was quite nice, but not as safe at night. There was a lot t of people under the Bruges and asking for money or just laying on the ground of unoccupied buildings. Plus lots of business had closed down. Luckily to my surprise this place has picked back up and there are a lot of new places and coffee shops that have piped up. I love seeing a lot of artistic stuff and the vive is definitely nice. I did not get a chance to check out a few of the spots that I have booked marked but I am looking forward to my next trip back soon to Texas. D finely a place to visit and check out some art, stores, pubs, bars and coffee shops.

Yelp
Deep Ellum is a Currently a great place to hang out. It's one of the few spots in Dallas that doesn't feel "stuffy and snooty," and reminds me a little of my days living in Austin. When we move into a house, I will truly miss this place as it is now. Why only 4 and not 5 stars - because this place is getting "gentrified" like a set of brownstones in Harlem That fact will turn this place into a stuffy and snooty area. Pretentiousness will soon be the norm. Rent is going up and just like in Austin, Harlem, NYC, etc - artists, musicians, artisans, laid back cool folk, etc are getting priced out. The Up side is that I got to experience this place before its transformation.....,and hey, I am an optimist at heart - so maybe that transformation won't be so bad. Oh, I also took off a star because of the many, expensive parking lots here - I detest paid parking lots! Free parking for All Citizens! LOL!

Yelp
Raw,Rustic & Artistic are the words that come to mind after spending few hours in this hood. This probably is one of the best hoods in dallas. Every street is filled with awesome murals which makes it more vibrant and have open food spots which are spacious.Pecan Lodge is one the best BBQ spot bustling with crowds all week long. Pros: ------- Artistic Lots of inexpensive Parking Spots Great Food Spots Dart Connectivity Coolest Hood Cons: ------- None If you're are ever in dallas and wanna kill sometime, this hood for sure gives you a great time.

Yelp
The heart of downtown Dallas. So much to do here as far as bars, restaurants, murals and other activities. I will say that parking is a major issue here because it is crowded so definitely uber.

Yelp
Some would say that Deep Ellum is making a comeback. I on the other hand question if it ever left. Perhaps it took a pause to figure out how to preserve its rich history while finding a way to fit into the era of smartphones, tablets, and gentrification. The process of re-inventing itself is well underway and very visible as there are many new retail stores, restaurants, cocktail bars and coffee shops in the area. And in this day of "out with the old and in with the new" it's refreshing to see these places are reusing existing space. While the insides are largely gutted/updated the original walls and foundation are reused. In addition to some of the well-known Deep Ellum staples such as Trees, Prophet Bar, Angry Dog, Green Room, The Bomb Factory, Uncle Uber's, Twisted Root Burger Co, Glazed Donut Works, Anvil Pub, Pecan Lodge (some older than others and many of which closed at one point and re-opened) the area is now home to some relatively new, up and coming places such as On Premise, Armoury DE, High & Tight Barbershop, Filament, Louie Louie's Piano Bar, Brick & Bones (just to name a few). In addition to these places there are also a few local coffee shops (Murray Street Coffee Shop, Cowboy). Deep Ellum is also home to a few top notch (so I've been told) tattoo shops. And if that's not enough, there's the "Life in Deep Ellum" cultural center which is used for the artistic, social, economic, and spiritual benefit of Deep Ellum (and urban Dallas). Needless to say, a little something for everyone can be found in Deep Ellum. Because of the many things to do in Deep Ellum, parking can be challenging. There are several lots a long with some street parking. I strongly recommend taking time to walk through the area and explore all it has to offer. There are plenty of murals/street art to be observed and for those who require it, there are a few dog parks to check out. And as you're walking, if you listen closely you can hear Deep Ellum quoting a few lines from LL Cool J: "Don't call it a comeback I been here for years Rockin my peers and puttin suckas in fear Makin the tears rain down like a MON-soon Listen to the bass go BOOM"

Yelp
This is a really cool part of Dallas. Bars, nightlife, music, restaurants. It's like a "riverwalk" sort of thing but not actually on the river. I spent both of my two evenings here in DE drinking, eating, sightseeing and shopping. What a super cool part of the world. Yep, it's even served by a DART station!

Yelp
Team Deep Ellum, here! I love art and culture and this little area gives me lots of it! I don't know much about the history, but apparently this area used to run down and is now rebuilding quite nicely, and I'm happy about it. Parking can be a pain sometimes on weekends, but eh you get over it. Great place to get some artsy photographer shots and shoot dance videos. Brought my brother who is a Graphic Artist (www.willieawesome.com) while he was in town, and he loved it and shot this: http://youtu.be/TzxuPBupikc - so much fun! I'm sure I'll be rollin deep here often. I just wanted to write a sentence with the word "deep". Check it out, though! Could be an exciting adventure.

Yelp
It can't get any better than Deep Ellum! It has it all.... Night Life, Shopping, Galleries, Coffee shops, Sushi, Tattoo shops, Bars, you name it's here in Deep Ellum.... Deep Ellum has so many types of clubs from which too choose from. The nightlife goes on into the early morning hours. Traffic can be a pain as well as the parking.... But once are in the fun part starts. You will always catch live music and even karaoke singers on the street screaming their hearts out on their favorite song. I notice places like Trees, Green Room, Piano Bar & Glazed Dounts have lines wrapped outside the doors. Mostly on weekends.... You will normally see plenty of Dallas police around which makes you feel a little safe. As it tends to get really packed on the weekends. There is a lot of History here with so many changes and restoring of an area that is full of life and excitement for many years to come.

Yelp
This has to be one of the coolest neighborhoods in Dallas. Really in all of Texas. Even in America. (You get the point. Ha). First, I must admit my bias. I am a huge fan of murals and installation art. Deep Ellum has many examples of both. Second, it's busy but now overly populated. On a Sunday afternoon, we were able to secure parking and get in and out of restaurants and businesses pretty quickly and efficiently. If you're ever looking for an "Instagrammable" area in the Dallas-Forth Worth area, Deep Ellum is like a cheat sheet. So many opportunities in one. There is also a diversity of food options and many bars that create very different experiences.

Yelp
I'm still a Deep Ellum resident, and still love it just as much, if not even more than before. There have been a few changes like the closing of LaGrange that was pretty shocking. And Elbow Room, but they are soon to reopen (thank GAWD). Overall, the neighborhood is still thriving in its own way. We're soon to get a sports bar, a ramen place, and Anvil Pub is expanding. Good changes. The residents still all support the area, and I have made even more friends being out and about supporting all the local businesses. Viva Deep Ellum!!

Yelp
As someone relatively "newer" to the Deep Ellum area (lived here for the past year and half of my two years in Dallas), I have to say this was one of my fave areas of the Dallas "city" area. Great mix of shops and restaurants, and what initially drew me to the area is that it was not as "stuck up" as some other areas around the city. Amazing art work adorning the walls of EVERY building and some of my fave restaurants down there. I particularly enjoy partaking in the monthly wine walks during the summer (third Thursday of the month), because it is such a great way to meet new people and meet the merchants of the participating stores. Great casual vibe. The bars and clubs on the weekends are great to go hopping around - usually there is no cover to any that I can think of. Some of my faves and staples - Off the Record, Green Room, Twilite, Truth & Alibi - too many to mention. Three Links has some great live bands too. There are so many new restaurants and bars / lounges opening up now, it's exciting but I have to say at the same time it is a little disappointing in the aspect that some of them seem to be bringing the "stuck up -ness" that I thought I had gotten away from in other areas like Uptown :( Still a pretty good area to check out, I have had days where I went to brunch with the friends and ended spending THE WHOLE DAY exploring the area. Check out Bucky Moonshines for some great Cajun Food and AMAZING Hurricanes (Owner and staff is pretty friendly AND they have their own comp parking). Check out Twisted Root Burgers for some of the BEST burgers in DFW and AMAZING Custard Shakes! (Owner and staff also pretty friendly!) Check out Easy Slider for some of the BEST sliders in DFW! (Great staff) Check out The Free Man for some pretty good Cajun Food and Live bands (bands get LOUD but fun) Check out Tanoshi Ramen - well just because I like their noodles lol Check out HIDE for some amazing drinks Check out Glazed Donuts - their Donuts are YUMMY! Check out Serious Pizza for slices of pizza as big as ....well they are just HUMONGOUS! Check out Revolver Taco - their corn tortillas are so light and yummy flavors There more to see and do but you get the gist :) I will miss my days in Deep Ellum. Hmmm what else ... parking can sometimes be a challenge but depending on when you get down there you can park on some of the side streets (no meters), some of the meters are only in effect during the work week day, and then some are only in effect after 6pm (go figure) so be sure to read before you put money in (I recently saw someone put about $2 worth of change in a meter before realizing the meter was free at that particular time lol) There are lots of paid parking around as well.

Yelp
What a fun, funky, edgy, artsy little part of town. This was by far my favorite neighborhood while visiting Dallas! I'm a huge fan of mural hopping and they're plentiful here! Lots of Instagram worthy shots for the taking. The people watching is fantastic also! A ton of personality. The vibe here reminded me a bit of me of Wynwood Arts District In Miami. Maybe less art but same cool eclectic energy. There's a great amount of music venues which I loved. We could enjoy lots of them just walking down the street! I can imagine a night out here is a fun, easy one as you can just walk to the next unique little spot. This section of the city has a lot of interesting little bars, and even their own brewery! Lost of semi open restaurants and coffee joints which I love too! And we can't forget the oh so popular Glazed Donuts. That's a hot spot! Line down the block! We happened to be here for their annual Arts Fest in the spring which was especially fun! They often hosts lots of events and themed weekends. All looked pretty solid. Keep up to date on upcoming festivities via their Insta or at deepellumtexas.com. I felt completely safe and comfortable here with my kiddos. Lots to see and nosh on, but I would love to visit at night with hubs for some din and bar hopping. If I ever find myself in Dallas again, DE is definitely on my list of places to hit up. (again). Parking wasn't found immediately during the festival which I can safely assume is one of the more difficult times, but we weren't in a rush and very much enjoyed the slow circling. There were a few lots also.

Yelp
I planned a little trip to Texas for my 30th. Starting in Dallas. We got up early, got breakfast and then I did some research and found Deep Ellum. I worked at one of the top Breweries in Chicago for 3 years so I REALLY appreciate good/locally brewed beers. My mom is not a beer drinker AT ALL but she suggested we go and I'm happy we did. It's set in a tucked away little industrial corner. I loved the huge building behind it with the graffiti. It was breath taking. When I walked in, it kind of reminded me of a hula bar slash sports hangout. I decided I wanted to sit at the bar because I love conversing with my bartenders. I told my bartender I was going to do a beer flight. I was conflicted on my last two and he helped me out. They were all AMAZING. I probably didn't care about one. But, The Deep Summer with hibiscus and lemon was amazing and I am an IPA gal. I would definitely come back when I come back to Dallas. Super affordable, chill atmosphere, not loud, amazing brews, cool staff.

Yelp
Outside of it's historical and legendary status, this is where all my weird friends like to keep it weird. We seem to be a band of misfits that collectively enjoy good music, tasty beverages and the randomness that a fun night brings. It's where artists breath, bloom and boom. There have been a few changes over the last couple years, but as one of the best and oldest entertainment districts in Dallas, it won't fade. It just keeps getting better and better. We like local. We support local. We are local.

Yelp
I didn't live in Dallas when Deep Ellum was going through it's "dark phase," so I'm only reviewing it based on when I moved into the city. Since living here, Deep Ellum has become a relaxing place to come and eat and explore. It seems like every few months, a new restaurant is opening up with an inviting atmosphere and good food!! There are some originals in this area, such as: Cane Rosso, Pecan Lodge and I believe Twisted Root! So so many good food options when you come out to this neighborhood. My only warning for people coming into this area for the first time would be parking!! It can definitely be hard on busy evenings (as expected) and you will have to pay for parking majority of the time. Be patient though and you will find a spot! If you are visiting Dallas for the first time, I would recommend making Deep Ellum a stop during your stay!

Yelp
What a vibrant, hipster neighborhood Deep Ellum is! I loved strolling along the streets admiring all the murals, graffiti and art on display everywhere. This area has a very nice vibe to it: there is a lot of cool restaurants and bars where you can hang out with friends and have a great time listening to the music of one of the many bands that play here. It also offers great picture opportunities. I was alone so I did not stay after dark because there were several vagrants in the streets, but I did notice a lot of police.

Yelp
On that same triumphant day we went to Labor of Love Homebrew festival hosted by Deep Ellum Brewery. Labor of Love is a tasting and competition for those home brewers to show their skills. There were some I'm very accustomed to, some I've heard of and intrigued to try and some I've never heard of before in my life. The cost to enter was $10.00 and unlimited pours until sold out is a steal. So, with a steady liver and faux locs atop my head I was ready to go forth and conquer. It's was an extremely hot day so I was elated that the event started at 5:00pm. The first thing I came upon was a "Welcome" beer from Deep Ellum. They had a nice ice cold tub of three beers to choose to allow you to cool off and set your strategy of this open field. I'll share with you my favorite picks of the day. I started off with 2nd Hand Beers. They had a version of Michelada called Le Reina (The Queen) 5.25% abv. I absolutely loved it. I'm a Bloody Mary fan for any version you give me. I could have even had a little more heat to it. Our own North Texas Ambassador, Jerry with NTX Beer, did a collaboration called Refresca-Te' (Refresh Yourself). It's a matcha tea blonde at 5.12% abv. It's great by itself or a beer cocktail would work nicely with this brew. Next was Strange Bruwith their Dunkel Weizen. If chocolate and banana danced; this would be their beer two-step. Very even and drinkable, smooth with light chocolate on the nose. The banana is subtle and only 5.00 % abv. Smittox Brewing Co. always comes to shut things down and this was no exception. Every beer he had was amazing. We all know about the Short Order Porter but what had the line backup was Nibs and Butter Milk Stout 6.4% abv. It will have you dreaming about a peanut butter cup when you inhale your glass. We were cautioned to try it with a couple of pretzels. It truly opens up the flavor of the beer. Smittoxcares and knows what he's putting you through because you just want more. We wanted more, and hence that's why the line just continued to grow. By my next trip, I got smart and finished my 2nd helping of Nibs and Bitter to try Feeling Good/Feeling Great. It's aptly named after themovie, Trading Places. It's a kettle sour with watermelon, blackberry and yuzu 5.3% abv. Absolutely delicious. These sold out quickly. I know I helped. The highlight of my evening was Driveway Brewing. They're offering was a Peaches 'n Cream so full of peach aroma before I even get it close to my nose. It was lovely at 5.5% abv. It was light and easy drinking. The Rico Radlerwas the game changer at 4.00% abv! It gave honor to Jarritos drink with hints of grapefruit, slightly floral and crushable. This beer hit me in the best way because I didn't really know what to expect. I wanted to know where could get it, because I needed pronto. Can I celebrate Beer to-go with Driveway Brewing putting a case of this in my backseat?! Also, it was only for the competition, and maybe if we catch them at another event we could get more. Yes, we totally closed his shop down by drinking Rico Radler or telling every person that would listen to stop and make their way to Driveway's tent.
