My husband and had a very last-minute getaway to the Deer Mountain Inn for 3 nights and we absolutely loved it. The inn itself is beautiful and exactly what I'd hoped it would be. Rustic but modern, like the country house of a wealthy, urban interior designer (who truly enjoys having guests and wants them to be comfortable). There's beautiful and quirky art on the walls, cozy rugs, and gorgeous mountain views. The grounds are stunning and impeccably maintained. So many gorgeous flowers. I would make a trip just to see the pure-white puffball hydrangeas.
We stayed in the Reid room and it was large enough to be comfortable yet still felt cozy. The bed was ridiculously comfortable and we had to force ourselves out of it each morning. The bathroom, though small, was quite stylish and perfectly functional. Great water pressure, lovely smelling soaps, etc.
We ate at the restaurant both Sunday and Monday nights and really enjoyed it both times. It's a small but creative menu and we liked that the chef uses produce from the inn's vegetable and herb garden. The cocktails were excellent and not too sweet (so good in fact, it was great to be able to flounce upstairs after dinner and not have to drive). Our servers also recommended two wines we loved, neither of which happened to be particularly expensive. Thank you, ladies!
Speaking of which, the highlight of our stay was the service. The entire staff is super friendly, and not in an uptight, fake-smile kind of way (I'm absolutely awful at remembering names, which is the only reason I'm not mentioning them). The waitstaff really knew the menu and could talk in detail about the ingredients, where they came from, seasonality, etc. They were charming, funny and sweet. On the hotel side, one highlight for us was the Game of Thrones viewing party organized by Brian, the concierge, on Sunday night in the cozy attic lounge. It was totally unexpected but so much fun. We also played several games of (tipsy and terrible) pool before collapsing happily into our luxurious bed. All in all, it was just what we needed. A no-stress getaway with enough nature to feel woodsy, but enough amenities to feel pampered. We definitely plan on going back.
