Deetjen's Big Sur Inn

I stumbled upon this awesome breakfast location while camping along hwy 1. The smell of freshly cooked bacon drew my attention. Upon entry, I literally stepped into Narnia! The atmosphere, aroma and decor shifted my mind instantly. I was seated beside a small fireplace and served by the honorable Katie 😃 😊. I had the 2 egg breakfast with house potatoes. Just like the atmosphere, my breakfast was simply enchanted ✨️. I shall certainly return with haste! (Thank you to the wonderful operational team.)

Go here if you want to true unplug. A day trip isn’t worth it imo, I would come back again for 3+ nights to truly unplug form the world.. but I’d need to be rich and bring a lamp! The landscaping is absolutely beautiful and whoever is in charge of it needs a raise. WOW!!! The decor and “vibe” of the place is super cute. The restaurants food was very good! We did breakfast- make sure to get a reservation for dinner! Not a whole lot of access to walk around- you will need a vehicle to do anything other than go to the on site restaurant. The rooms are DARK DARK DARK!! Think candle lit.. I think this is the vibe they are going for. This make it hard to get dressed. Someone with vision impairment would likely be totally blind in these rooms.. even in certain parts during the daytime. There are NO LOCKS ON THE DOORS!!!! Do not bring valuables. The price is A LOT. It’s like expensive cosplaying living before electricity- no WiFi no tv no radio essentially candle lit meals and rooms.

Deetjen's did a good job of describing the accommodations. As they said, it's rustic, the rooms have no wifi or cell service, no TVs or radios and the doors don't have keys. The rooms are clean, have electricity and running water. It was more rustic than we prefer. I was looking for a more affordable option than nicer places, but for $350 a night, I don't think we'll stay here again. We could get a very nice room in Carmel and drive 30 min to visit Big Sur.

By far one my my favorite breakfast spots, dare I say restaurants. The people are amazing, the service is great and if you have the pleasure of reserving the family room for your party of 6+, I am sure you will enjoy it!

We have stayed here many times before but this time our ages have caught up with us. Rooms are dark bathroom small and we could hear the people above us.None of this EVER bothered us before! Breakfast at restaurant in the morning outstanding. Location awesome!

Deetjen's was an extremely wonderful place to stay. The rooms are cozy, the food excellent, and the cats were a plus for sure. I hope to be able to come back for years to come!

this place is such gem. From the charming restaurant to clean & picturesque rooms - the perfect place to unplug. Ellie was a fabulous employee in the restaurant both nights we were there. Would 100% recommend this place time and time again!

Beautiful place, however, it lacks many things. If you just want to go over and stay in a quiet cabin this is the place. However my idea of going there, to Big Sur, was to be able to find several trails to hike and to have access to the ocean. However I was not able to do any of that from this location. The cabins are surrounded by nature but if you wanna go hiking or see a river/creek or even walk to the beach this is the worst place to stay at. This is just a place to take pictures. There’s only one trail which leads up the mountain by a dirt road which is really sunny. And as you walk you find a sign that says that you can’t trespass so practically you can just see the ocean from far away but you can never access it from there and you cannot really walk into the woods. There is no TV or radio no amenities close by. The restaurant is closed in the afternoon. this is just a place to spend the night but not really enjoy your vacation because you have to drive out to dine or to hike or to go to the beach.. it’s very sad that such a beautiful location doesn’t have enough to offer

I have always wanted to come here due to the rich history (did you know Jim Morrison stayed here ?!) so I was thrilled when I recently got the chance to try out the breakfast while on a road trip with my sister. We had so much fun walking around the property and playing with the cats that we arrived after they are officially closed (noon). But they not only graciously allowed us to still order food but stay a whole hour! It's not just a cool vibe, friendly service but genuinely great food with generous portions. This place is good for the soul!

Needed to stop here while in Big Sur because of its history however food was so delicious and fresh. Server was very attentive and constantly filled up our coffees and ambience was an entire treat on its own :p

Time for an updated review. This is specifically for the restaurant. Always upon walking in I'm greeted immediately. The staff is always very helpful. Be aware that this place is very busy during breakfast. It's packed and highly recommended to always make reservations. A few of my favorite things from the breakfast menu are. Eggs Benedict French toast Huevos rancheros The eggs Benedict is by far the best here. Their house made hollandaise sauce has just the right amount of lemon juice and seasoning. Perfect consistency in thickness. Highly recommended. French toast. The bread is evenly battered. You can taste a hint of vanilla extract in the batter. It's SO delicious. Huevos rancheros. Salsa is fresh. Eggs are cooked perfectly. Everything is the way it should be. I don't need to keep going on here. But let's. The decor is impressive and makes sense for the location and atmosphere. The seating is warming and home feeling. This place is NOT FOR KIDS. Please don't bring loud children ruining peoples dining experience. A lot of places in Big Sur actually have a no kids policy. So would I recommend this place? Yes. Breakfast is great. I'll write a separate review of the dinner. Enjoy!

We found this place on Yelp and am very glad we went! I had breakfast here with my wife and 4 year old Izzy. The place still had Halloween decor but gave us a very Big Sur vibe inside. It felt like we were visiting our grandmas house with many fun antiques inside. Along with enjoying the detailed decor we thought the service was fantastic. The server was very friendly and the food was tasty. I recommend the buttermilk pancakes or the Huevos Rancheros.

Deetjen's is a must!!! Beautiful hotel grounds with the most charming restaurant. We came for breakfast and everything was delicious.

Located in the heart of Big Sur , this restaurant features many choices and daily specials. Making a reservation is recommended, I tried the lamb chops with a side of Italian beans. Both very delicious . Although the food is good I found the service a little lacking and the prices a bit steep.

Magic. Magical. Unreal. Amazing service. Even more amazing food. Get one of everything. It's all so good. Every bite was the best thing I've ever eaten. No kidding. Loved being there

Beautiful, quaint inn on the coast, with a restaurant and more. I like to take a drive and have a nice dinner with myself every once in awhile as a current singleton. Deetjens is just that kind of place that's a charming hidden gem in what is a long stretch of Pacific coastline. I didn't stay overnight, so I can't comment about the hotel other than it looks really nice to stay at, but the food at the restaurant was really good especially the crab cakes.

Such a cute atmosphere, friendly service and amazing eggs benedict (I ordered the ham option)! Parking was a bit tight though.. snagged the last spot.

Summary (dinner): Food: 5 stars Service: 4.5 stars Ambience: 5 stars My wife and I have been visiting the Big Sur area at least once a year for 15 years and Deetjens was always high on our list of dinner spots, but timing and reservations hadn't quite worked out in the past. It's a smaller restaurant and weekends can be booked up. Also they only take phone reservations and you must talk to a host, not leave a message. No online reservations or confirmations. We booked a Saturday night on a holiday weekend (President's Day) way in advance and finally got there on a windy-rainy night. We were fortunate to be able to move up our reservations time by arriving just before opening and talking to the host. That was very helpful. We had planned to do dinner an hour after sunset, but that was not happening in the rain. We didn't want to wait 90 minutes. No menus online, so we didn't know quite what "simple, hearty cuisine" we'd get, or whether my wife's gluten free needs would be be met. (They were.). A cashier at Nepenthe's Phoenix gift shop highly recommended going with the nightly specials. We ordered a yummy poke-like raw tuna appetizer, an entree of paella (ands garlic bread to soak up juices) and an entree lamb shank (a special for that night). All the food was amazing, especially the lamb shank, which was super-tender and flavorful -- the best we've ever had. Our server was attentive and friendly. Food arrived in a good flow. The wood-burning fireplaces and vintage nick-knack decor in both dining rooms are warm and inviting -- a homey and romantic vibe that transports you back decades to a simpler time in Big Sur. During our visit, we noticed there were a few slight issues at tables around us. We weren't able to order the wine we wanted (a similar one was suggested and ordered at the same price). One table unexpectedly was served an appetizer with an allergy ingredient. Another table waited a long time for bread. But everything was corrected quickly. Can't wait to return, and to book a room, too, to be able to do breakfast.

The is the most quaint restaurant in the Big Sur area. Not just for food, also an inn! Although very popular for breakfast we visited for dinner. We shared the corn soup and beet salad. I had the lamp shanks and he had the short rib. VERY delicious!

The ambience was amazing. It felt like going to a warm house that's your friends house. It was amazing and great. The food was so good. I loved it. It's been a big hype up for a long time. I've been and I finally went definitely recommend! I am a local and just never took the time. I should have!

Loved everything about this cozy little dinning place! We went for breakfast and had a sweet little table for two in the corner. Best romantic ambiance I've ever had for breakfast! We were greeted with a smile and the service just got better as the food was served. You must take a walk around the gardens! Very unique!

The breakfast at this inn is truly UNMATCHED. I have not found another breakfast place like this (trust me, I've tried everything). It's definitely my favorite stop in Big Sur and I always try to make it in the morning. Everything is made in house and is delicious. Best quality, super buttery. Nothing like it anywhere else. The blueberry pancakes are fluffy heaven.

Update: WTH?! Closed?! Noooooooo Came here way before COVID was a word everyone knew and are familiar with - this is totally a "#lategram". We were camping in the area and I deliberately didn't pack too much food so we could try out the eateries in the area that I've had bookmarked for years. We came here for the hot breakfast and we stayed for the beautiful creek and gorgeous flowers! The restaurant part looks like it used to be a house, and it felt just as homey. Walk ins were welcome. Also, we came early so there was no line -- although one side of the restaurant was already full so we were ushered through to another part of the building. Ordered tea and the pot of tea came with all the accoutrements: lemon, sugar cubes, honey, and milk. The Hollandaise sauce used on the eggs was great. The eggs were poached perfectly. The pancakes were yummy by itself, the butter was generous and the syrup was maple! Breakfast burrito was very good. The restroom is rustic and nice and is located out back. There is a very limited parking space at the front of the restaurant so we drove through the driveway and out to the back which was a blessed piece of serendipity! I can't explain how awesome the parking area is: you drive over a bridge over a creek to the dirt lot on the other side of the creek... surrounded by these giant trees. Whoa! While crossing the bridge, when we looked over towards the mountain the view took my breath away! Also on our walk to the restaurant, we were passing by the different rooms that are for rent at the inn. They looked like comfy wood cabins. If you're not into camping but still want to feel the rustic camping vive, Deetjen's is your place!

Best hidden gem in Big Sur! Staff was awesome and breakfast was out of this world delicious!

Honestly, one of the best meals I've ever had. The space is just darling. The service was warm and friendly. We came in for our anniversary and had such a nice time.

This place was highly recommended by a family friend so when I was driving through Big Sur I had to stop. When you walk into Deetjuns the lighting, art, and decor transport you to an enchanted cabin. I alerted the server that I had a dairy allergy and they had no problem making me shrimp pasta and the fish plate dairy free. The food was amazing even considering the chef changed the orders to be non-dairy! Everything was cooked so well and had so much flavor. I don't think there is anything on this menu that will disappoint. The food here is well worth the price, I will be back the next time I am in Big Sur.

I have never stayed anywhere quite like Deetjans. I can't speak highly enough of this little rustic oasis off of highway 1. Has a charming Ma and Pa resort vibe. I stayed in the Van Gogh Room with a friend and we were more than comfortable. The property is a snap shot of history and so beautiful. Amazing lupines lining the hills and flowers hanging from the walls. Everyone we encountered was super friendly. Additionally the breakfast was AMAZING! I got the eggs Benedict and I would get it again a million times. Everything on the menu looked awesome. I want to bring my mom back here one day. Nothing but good things to say about this place.

Rustic charm meets shabby inconvenience. It is impossible to assess Deetjen's apart from greater Big Sur. Both enjoy reputations sprinkled with superlatives such as, "breathtaking," "unforgettable," and, "steeped in history." I've made only a single visit but one fact strikes me as obvious: both the area and the inn have suffered from an unrelenting onslaught of humanity whose collective appetite now far surpasses what either can offer in a meaningful way. Climate change pummels the trees, trails and hills with storms and fires, along with erosion and toxic CO2. Ready accessibility to the inn and the region by the masses, not possible a hundred years ago, presents challenges that the inn's infrastructure and staff can no longer gracefully accommodate. Demand is high, supply low, so the prices are through the roof. Travelers who, like us, are looking to encounter natural history in a meaningful way, will find most of those treasures off limits behind roped off trails. The only hiking is within the confines of state parks. A fellow doing construction at Deetjen's filled me in: much of Big Sur exists upon lands owned by five or so billionaires who are not about to allow the likes of me to go traipsing upon it. I can admire from a distance. Deetjen's strives to retain its rustic charm by offering drafty, dark, cramped rooms, furnished with worn out furniture, behind doors impossible to lock. Lack of locks bothers me very little, but the inn's refusal to provide internet is an inconvenience to the naive traveler who is trying to suss out available options. We arrived at the inn, delayed by a closure of the coastal road south of Big Sur, the result of recent , heavy rains. So, we were forced to travel a circuitous route to the east, leading north of Big Sur, then turning back south to get there. The night was dark, rainy, and foggy. As we came down serpentine Route 1. The woman who met us harbors a certain eccentricity that does not reflect welcoming warmth. She directed us to Al Fiasco, or some such name, which was our domicile for the next three days. As the saying goes regarding the weather, "It only rained twice, once for one day and once for two days. It immediately became obvious that parking at Deetjen's is a mess - not unlike the game where you try to arrange tiles in a square by sliding one, and then another, into the only open spot. Docey-dohing of automobiles was a three day square dance. We lugged our suitcases up wooden steps, ducking under a tree trunk en route, opened our door to enter, but were beaten out by a little black cat who scurried in ahead of us and took up residence for our entire stay. This, we were to learn, was Pewee. She soon invited her mother, a tortie named Chester, to join as well. Both were happy to be out of the rain. After our long journey we availed ourselves of the restaurant where we encountered a very friendly waitress and a scrumptious meal, to the tune of $200+. Bring your credit card to Deetjen's if you're going to avail yourself of the restaurant. We managed to get in a rain-soaked hike each day then retired to our drafty room, which could never be brought up to a temperature that one could describe as "comfortable." Jen paid a visit to the off-putting receceptionist, inquiring if any games were available to help pass a waterlogged afternoon. She hurriedly answered, "Of course!" In a tone that implied that any idiot should know there would be, then declared that she had to go "feed the kittens" and departed. Jen returned to our room toting a Scrabble game with a third of the letters missing, but which included a helpful piece of cardboard out of which replacements could be cut and labeled. And so we passed a cold, damp afternoon, draped in blankets, huddled over a Scrabble board, along with two, purring, lap-warming cats. Not entirely unpleasant, but slightly depressing to know that each day we were paying over $300 for the privilege. Make up your own mind.

Amazing execution of coastal cuisine. The sauces, wine pairing, salads to desserts were beyond expectation. Definite visit!

This was a very cute place. The parking situation is a bit tight but there are some spaces way in the back. The pancakes here are huuuuuuuge and the turkey avocado deetjens special was pretty good.

From the adorable, cozy room to the delicious food, we had a lovely evening at Deetjen's and will definitely return! Starting with the bread and hummus spread was a great idea. We had an amazing salad and then I had the beet salad which was incredible. My husband had the catch of the day which was UNBELIEVABLY delicious and I will get it next time we dine there! The waiter was wonderfully attentive and knowledgeable. Everything about Deetjen's was exceptional. The restaurant is so cozy and inviting and the food was equally as warm and delicious.

We had a good time in Big Sur, but Deetjen's itself left us going hmmmm? We stayed in the Castro Cabin which was nice when we first walked in, but the longer we were there, the more my nose started to stuff up and my throat got sore. I understand that the whole place is very old, but we could visibly see the mold in the bathroom on the walls from poor ventilation. Being very sensitive to mold/dust myself, I assume this is why I felt sick any time we were actually in the room itself. Unfortunately we stayed in early January and it was storming so bad we couldn't use the porch or venture out to the creek right beside for some outdoor relaxation. Breakfast was OK, but nothing spectacular. I work at a wonderful breakfast/lunch place at home so when I ordered blueberry pancakes and they weren't even as good as the ones I make, I was pretty disappointed. My husband liked the Deetjen's Dip he had for breakfast though so 50/50 isn't bad. Dinner was great! (Besides the service...) Our waitress seemed like it could be the first day of her job and looked terrified every time she approached the table. The busser immediately spilled water all over the table when trying to fill the water glasses and the lady waitress was spilling my hot tea onto the tray as she tried to balance it while leaning over the table. I've been in the service industry for 7 years and cringe when I see such mistakes. The food (fish of the evening and chicken) were great. Props to the chefs. The homemade vanilla ice cream was also delicious but the creme brûlée left us confused as to why it would be served. Overall I would not stay here again, but we might just stop for dinner. If you have any allergies I would stay away from staying in the inn rooms themselves.

We were so excited to eat there and were disappointed in how unfriendly the women running the place are. The supposedly awesome French Toast is two pieces of cinammon toast with strawberry Philadelphia cream cheese in between. Not even good. The dinner was not impressive. We didn't feel welcomed at all. If you're not a local don't punish yourself going there.

Funky fun Brunch place with lots of caracter. I had the BEST eggs Benedict I have ever had with the very best breakfast potatoes, a real brunch treat! I will go back every year and cant wait for the next time!

My daughter recommended this magical, quaint, unique, and historical place to stay on our road trip up the California coast. We only stayed one night and had "Grandpa Deetjens" room. It was absolutely lovely! There was an old record player and records in our room, a wood burning fireplace and cozy furniture. Plenty of windows and natural light. We enjoyed a hike up to a beautiful view point overlooking the trees and spectacular views of the ocean below. We walked the property before enjoying a glass of wine before dinner and played a few hands of cards. We sat outside enjoying the scenery and made friends with Chester the cat! They had a lovely small restaurant on the property with an amazing chef! I loved my fresh caught halibut, and my husband had roasted chicken. We started with a calamari salad. They had an outstanding wine selection. We will most definitely be returning here for years to come. Just a heads up thought, be prepared for no Wi-Fi, cell service or tv during your stay, but you honestly don't need it. Relax, disconnect and enjoy!

Such a cool spot! It's really easy to miss and drive right by it but when you're there it's so magical. Truly takes you back to simpler times and there is no cell service which is so fitting. We visited during the pandemic so the restaurant was not open but the staff was very friendly, everything super clean and cozy. Will be coming back!

This place is not for everyone! I personally love it. The location is somewhat centrally located to many things on this side of Big Sur. The art galleries, the beaches and hiking. If I was going to hike in to the hot springs again I might stay here the night before so I am super close, just for the reason that it's difficult to drive all the way from the city that early. I actually would not recommend this place to some of my friends. Simply for the reason they would not appreciate it and they would complain about some of the things I am about to list. No locks on the doors. Rustic drafty rooms. Thin walls where you can hear other people. No television and no internet. This place could be called a lot of different things. Modern and updated is not the verbiage you would use to describe it. We stayed in the Grandpa room. It has a small record player with a ton of records to choose from. Very nice. The bed is comfortable and the room has plenty of space to spread out. The bathroom is a bit small but it's nice that you can hear the stream in the background. On this occasion it was nice to have that space to get organized for the photo shoot I took part in the next day. No locks on the doors but you can park right outside your room in most cases so if you do have valuables you can lock them in the car. The restaurant is great!

When you call make sure you talk to a real person. Their prerecorded message said they were open, serving breakfast... so we drove down. When we got there, "sorry, we're having a special event"

We love their breakfast and their dinner! On our last trip we went for both! Food is amazing. Fresh and wholesome. So good! Can't wait to visit In January!

Literally my favorite place in Monterey county for breakfast, it's just 30-40 minute drive a bit far... Their eggs Benedict, specifically the hollandaise is on point! You will not have a better hollandaise anywhere else! I tend to double-dish the eggs Benedict with their stuffed French toast, it's an absolute must. A berry cream filling topped with homemade cinnamon whipped cream, it's to die for. I tend to bring my own bottle of champs seeing their corkage fee is a reasonable $15. With all the local natural charm of big sur, Deetjen's is an absolute winner.

In my previous review, I mentioned the close proximity of the wonderful Nepenthe Restaurant- but forgot to mention that there is a delightful restaurant on site at Deetjen's. Not sure what the situation is now with the pandemic- but the cafe is one of the coziest places I've ever eaten. To me it's like hearing Joni Mitchell sing Woodstock- pure bliss. It's open for breakfast, and dinner- and like everything about Deetjen's the staff is wonderful, warm and welcoming. Food is top-notch, and very reasonable.

Wow.. First, drive along beautiful Big Sur and suck in the scenery. Then, stop by Deetjens and have the most extraordinary experience there too. Atmosphere is an important aspect to a good meal, well, here the atmosphere is the definition of "hygge". A fireplace, pictures from the days of yore, crooked floor and a ut authenticity all the way. The staff is vert and friendly too, and not because they work for tip, but because they seem genuinely interested in your well being. The place was opened by a Norwegian some 100 years ago and he wanted to give the cabins a Norwegian touch. He sure did. If I ever go back, I have to stay a night in one of the cabins too. Go! Go asap! Ps eggs Benedict with apple sausage was yummy

Disclaimer: No fuzzy animals were harmed in the making of this review.. Just a mythical creature or two after a little too much vino and a wild mushroom escaping my better foraging judgment. Nestled in a woodsy storybook setting of redwoods and overgrown moss, this Bed & Breakfast oozes charm like the tree-sap aroma permeating throughout the grounds. The rustic cottages border surrealism for a weary traveler escaping the tangled freeway madness of the lbc. Did we stumble in a Hans Christian Anderson fairytale? After hiking Big Sur and taking a dip in Julia Phiffer's river, nothing was more inviting than a hot bowl of soup and --with much discretion-- a little leftover Solvang wine under canopy shade. The central coast is whispering it's thick rolling fog in my dreams, summoning my inner Kerouac for another Big Sur adventure with a Deetjen's detour.

Great food, coffee, and service. All family members left happy and content. Staff was attentive and checked in regularly.

Not so sure about this one. Wine selection is all California heavy sulphite kind of stuff which is not my cup of tea. The service staff definitely felt cultish but the food was ok. Not really fine dining but also not bad. The pasta was solid but one of my pet peeves was false advertising and the fish was advertised consistently by the staff as Branzino when it wasn't ! Yikes

My heart is broken after just having learned about Deetjens closure. Many of my favorite memories have been rooted there! I've stayed everywhere in Big Sur including Ventana and Post Ranch Inn but Deetjens is the cozy place that I prefer to call home when visiting this majestic location. I pray that someone will come to its rescue so that we can once again count down the days until our Deetjen's escape!

Deetjan's is charming, cozy and quirky. We stayed in Grandpa's room which has a record player, books, piano, rocking chair, fireplace, a twin bed near the bathroom and a larger bed next to the fire. No modern luxuries such as wifi, tv or phone. Right across is a library room with a payphone.This place is not for everyone, this is not a boutique or chain hotel. No locks on the doors so lock your stuff in your trunk when you leave for the day. I would come back for a romantic weekend. Close to the Henry Miller Library, a short drive to Nepenthe and plenty of hiking. The breakfast/brunch is delicious! Get the French toast. Don't be in a hurry, you are there to relax and they are not in a rush.

My girlfriend and I stayed in Grandpa's Room on Valentines Day. What a treat. We hiked Big Sur all morning and headed to our Valentines Day getaway. The hotel automatically puts you in a relaxed state of mind. Its tucked in the forest and feels like you stepped back in time a bit. Grandpas room sets such a relaxing ambiance with the fireplace and record player. There was also a ledger in the room that guests from around the world document their experiences. We were able to grab a shower and head to our Valentines Day dinner by candlelight near the main office. The food and service was so good, we came back for breakfast. Again, awesome food and service. New menu and server that did not disappoint. It's worth mentioning we were on the Whole30 diet at the time, so we had to be kind of picky, but our server seemed like she had done it a million times. She helped us out big time. She relayed our requests to the chef and than from the chef back to us with such a kind helpful attitude. There is no cell service, wifi, or door locks and that is no problem. I loved checking in the hotel and checking out from all other stressors. It's a relaxing, peaceful, getaway kind of feel you cannot get from a chain hotel. If you have the time, I recommend grabbing a cup of coffee in the office area early in the morning and than hiking east past the back end of the property. There is a stream that runs through the forest and the morning air smells amazing. It'll make the whole place feel like your own hidden retreat.

Please dont go. This is one of the last rare gems left on the planet. Ive stayed at Post Ranch Inn & prefer the beauty, homey charm of Deetjens. Everything is amazing & the food, unfussy and delicious. I am so sad to hear its closing indefinitely.

A gem in the twisty and windy trails of Route 1. Stopped in at 8:30pm and had a fantastic dinner special. The restaurant was charming and the food selection was diverse from fish, poultry, meat, and vegan. The location and property is so unique. Your stepping back in time. Very peaceful.

OMG!! I have heard nothing but good about this place for many years but never had the opportunity to try it. My husband and I were down at the monastery last week and on our way home we stopped in and had breakfast. My French toast was perfect, not too sweet and not overly battered. My bacon was crisp and perfectly salty. My husband ordered poached eggs with ham and toast. He had more food than even he could eat!! The coffee was amazing the atmosphere was cozy and I cannot wait to go back down there and eat again.

We booked this place almost a year in advance for a romantic getaway weekend. We knew it has no wifi, TV or cell service and we're fully ready to detox from technology. Although I was a little nervous that the doors didn't lock, we were fine leaving our things in the car or in the bedroom with the "privacy please" sign on the door. During the day we went on some really great hikes behind the property. One of which leads you to the top of the mountain with the great Scenic view. Make sure to try their amazing breakfast with the very friendly staff. We also explored Big Sur and had amazing chocolate croissants at the big sur bakery - Very long line but worth it! We slept like babies at the inn and it was very quiet and peaceful. Nice break from the city.

This place is so beautiful and preserved so well. The staff are very accommodating, attentive, present and kind. Cozy lovely atmosphere, amazing food and drinks. Love this place so much.
