Delhi Gate

One of many gates of walled city of Lahore, Pakistan. Although the origin year is not confirmed; however, this gate did exist since Emperor Akbar's era in 16th Century A.D. Multistory small houses, narrow streets , noisy traffic ,busy shops, azaan reciting from many mosques are hall mark of the gate locality.Akbari mandi ( spices market), Shahi Hammam and Wazir Khan Mosque are situated nearby. On 7th February 2026, Basant was celebrated at roof top of Girls High School, inside Delhi gate.It was well- decorated .Punjab Information and Culture Minister, Ms. Azma Bukhari was the chief guest, who flew kites skillfully. Overall , it was a nice event. We enjoyed much.However, parking of the invitee VIPs cars was a problem and there was no one to look after this activity.

Delhi Gate is one of the historic entrances of the old Walled City of Lahore, built during the Mughal era. It was named because it faced towards Delhi. One of the twelve historical gates of Lahore now well managed by Wall City Authority. It arranges guided tours and have facilitation center along with a sovenior shop inside the gate. Special Decorated rikshawa are provided for tour. It's great experience if encroachment and unruly traffic could managed.

When ever you visit Lahore and you get a chance please do visit this place. This place holds a significant historical value and it's a must visit place. The old architecture is truly amazing and androon lahore is the place where it all started. Highly recommended

The heritage of Lahore drew me back to Delhi Gate after a very long time. Lahore has always been a fascination for me—its layers of history, culture, and soul never fail to captivate. But this visit felt different. Walking through Delhi Gate, surrounded by centuries-old brickwork, vibrant bazaars, and echoes of forgotten eras, the experience was simply amazing. It wasn’t just a visit; it felt like reconnecting with a living, breathing heritage that continues to inspire awe and pride.

Historic city gate of old Lahore, rebuilt in the 19th century after being demolished by the British.Once part of the original city walls and later used as a girls’ school after Partition.Known from Rudyard Kipling’s writing and originally the site of the famous Zamzama Gun. Need to renuvate, also proper care is essential. Gives vibes of old Mughal art and peak of Muslim era in sub continent. Hoping that Government will keep an eye on such gorgeous monuments.
