This review does not reflect poorly on the bakery goods offered but, on the interactions noted among employees.
We stopped by the bakery for some after dinner treats. The individual assisting us appeared to be new, perhaps still in training. During the encounter a co-worker offered the individual assisting us with support in choosing the appropriate packaging for what we ordered. We had some questions about certain cupcakes, for which the individual assisting us had to seek clarification - no biggie. Separate packaging for an item containing hazelnut was requested due to a family members allergy, to which we were respectfully obliged. However, the employee assisting us was questioned by a co-worker for doing this, we were not sure why.
In tallying up the cost, I knew by the total quoted that the amount was too little, so I asked if she was sure and reminded her of all the items she had packaged for us. As she began to review the calculations, a co-worker directed her to start again which she did. We paid but walked away remarking amongst ourselves how negative the questioning and facial expressions of one employee had been toward the employee assisting us. If we noticed it, surely the young woman assisting us did as well.
It costs time and money to train new employees. We could do and be so much more by lifting each other up than by displaying behaviors of incivility. In leaving this review, we hope to create awareness that will help promote a culture of civility where employees feel safe and valued, and where respectful communication and feedback are encouraged.
