Yelp
GRAND OPENING
I was there Monday, July 7, 2025.
The opening date was pushed back time-and-time again. Poor communication of new open dates became ridiculous, e.g. "opening fall 2024" became "early 2025" to "April," then "May," and on June 2, still said open "May" then finally "June" and "July."
The Del Taco telephone customer service line, professional sounding folks, had no idea.... after 15 minutes, "check the website."
THE FACILITY
Nice new, sunny, clean indoors but MAJOR property design problems:
1. Narrow, hazardous traffic lane to drive-thru
2. Insufficient parking spots
3. Conflict between backing up from parking and those funneling
into the drive-thru lanes (or coming from them)
4. Traffic turning in from Hwy 55 has almost no safe place to wait
in line due to poor traffic design
5. Only two register/kiosks (not enough at rush hour)
6. Only one "regular cash register" (unmarked, almost hidden)
From an investment/efficiency standpoint....TERRIBLE. Lost LOTS of money in MONTHS of delays, lack of notice to public. Facility not built for the traffic flow footprint; worth a lawsuit settlement.
THE FOOD
I've only eaten at any Del Taco a few times; it is clearly better than Taco Bell. The food quality is better, and the food is noticeably fresh!
bean burrito with extra "green" sauce- For about $2.50, heavy
and delicious, the beans, tortilla and green chile.
"The Del Taco"- about the size of two regular tacos- very good;
EXCELLENT with added cheese, almost 1/2 a meal, one taco.
grilled chicken taco (soft)- great taste
milkshakes- GREAT taste. I hear they have a mini shake size
which would be perfect size for a snack
hamburgers- better than a McDonalds cheeseburger, but
not by much
VALUE FOR MONEY
You need to know your way around their menu: I'm still learning.
They have specials in-app and the national chain advertises great
specials like 2 for 1 tacos, etc. but don't seem to be at this store.
E.g. they advertise $5, $7 and $9 boxes that are tremendous deals,
but not at this location. No breakfast (yet) at this location.
We found that a full combo, e.g. 2 Del Tacos, french fries and drink ($9)
with an added bean burrito with extra green chile sauce and a grilled
chicken taco totaled $15- enough for two people, and you are full!
Ordering a la carte and customizing seems the cheaper way to go.
More like $12 for two people, and a lot of food.
SERVICE/ TECHNOLOGY
Way too many employees for an efficient operation- like 20 black-
shirted employees- a ridiculous number. Milling around. I received
the wrong order. Apparently no mustard, employee kept saying "honey mustard." However, one smartly dressed lady helped me at the kiosk, helped me very much, caused me to smile.
VERY DIFFICULT TO LEARN; getting reward points and applying them to free food items. They disappear.
CONCLUSION
The challenge will be keeping the facility clean and organized; and a professional bearing of employees.
Food is very good and somewhat of a niche here in the Triangle.
Beware the drive through and turning into and exiting the property- it will raise your blood pressure 10 points. You want to celebrate when you get through the gauntlet experience and actually get your food!
IS IT WORTH IT?
YES!
It's an adventure, actually, learning their menu, fighting their technology and inefficiency. You need 30 minutes training to navigate the chaos only to find good food, reasonably priced, with LOTS of hidden menu items, specials. I like this place!
